While I don't use AT&T, I am pretty sure that the Developer Edition has the same hardware as the AT&T model. So you should receive an optimal experience with the two.
I've had no experience with their customer service, sorry.
I'm using the AT&T hardware converted to a Dev edition. (Same model number, but with the AT&T logo on the back.)
Everything works fine.

Running the M8 developer edition on AT&T with no issues. Can't use AT&T visual vm app, though that's not really a concern. That said wouldn't mind if I could access visual vm or google voice from the dialer app

Speeds are exactly the same. Everything is the same, with no bloatware, and you are able to change between GSM, CDMA, and LTE in the settings if you find you need to. ATT won't let you do that.

This device replace my old Htc touch pro 2, it is fast, battery is correct for me. The only downside seems the network speed, which i expected to be better, i got between 1mbps to 3mbps at home. I will test it in a bigger city when I get a chance. Overall I am satisfied. I am wondering to root, but I hesitate since this will most likely void my warranty on it ...

Do you have any issue on it?
I found some posts about Amaze got some hardware problems.
Nope, everyrhing works fine. But i have not tested it in deep. Just my daily usage. Not tested yet is : bluetooth, gps, nfc, fm radio and hdmi output.
The only complain is that some t-mobile store seems to have official dock and car mount but I cannot find any of them online.

Both white and black are the same, yes you will get 3G and 4G coverage on at&t since 4G is hspa and at&t supports hspa.
No this phone doesn't have lte and just a heads up, though you will get 4G, it might not be as fast t-mobile from what I've heard, their HSPA isn't that fast but still pretty decent.
I appreciate that.

ST does support 4G but right now my tower is under a full noon load.
12 noon speed is awful but 12 midnight speed is great.

I used to work for Business End User Care for AT&T. As of the time I left (november), if you placed your sim in a smartphone and used it for about a day the system would add the lowest data plan and send you a text message indicating it had been added to your account. Even if you were using someone's phone while your "feature phone" wad being replaced, it was required. I've had to read that section of the TOS to many, many angry people. I would call and confirm just to be safe.

DO NOT CALL to ask..... as they won't know the answer, and might put a note on your account to force a data plan(well, you could call and ask on someone else's phone without giving your account number)
the primary way (so far that I've seen) that AT&T detects your smartphone is via IMEI. Secondary might be you using >100GB/month, connecting to their 4G APN settings, going to a store for help and letting the customer rep see that you have a smartphone
does AT&T have your IMEI? probably not.... AT&T has IMEI of all of their smartphones, so you can't use an AT&T smartphone. You can try using an (unlocked) t-mobile phone, but might not support the right 3G/4G bands that AT&T use. You can try international phones, canda phones(from Bell, Telus...). WARNING>>>. AT&T might have your IMEI because the manufacture gave them the IMEI(See Google Nexus phones), inference from branded phones that they carry(eg Phone is sold/branded by AT&T and t-mobile... AT&T gets a list of their phone IMEIs that might include t-mobile's IMEIs), screwups(Samsung Note overseas was misentered as a tablet on AT&T's network, white i9100 Galaxy SII is misentered as a Blackberry on AT&T's network)
The link at the end of this post gives a guide to what phones are 100% compatible(3G/4G on 850/1900) on AT&T's network.
According to this, the T-Mobile Amaze 4G is compatible with AT&T 3G/4G, but I have some confusion on the 850/1900 mhz band for the 3G/4G data, trying to sort it out(last few posts on that thread)

anyways, quick update
got a T-mobile Amaze 4G to play with

Yes you will need the global firmware, and so far it seems to be impossible to get anything other than edge on Tmo. They are refarming their spectrum, so you might have some luck of you're in one of those areas, but I make no promises.

what other carriers do you think are better to go with that have good data speeds?
Not a clue, to be honest. I know they've gotten spotty hspa+ on at&t with some radio recalibration.. I'm not too savvy on playing with radios though, so i never looked too deep into it. Most of the people using prepaid carriers seem like they don't mind edge network.
Just search on Google for like "xda htc rezound on tmobile" or any other carrier you want to see and it'll bring you a decent list of threads. I would recommend the xda search, but I've been doing all my research from mobile browser and Tapatalk, so search results have been hit or miss.
Looks like page plus gets 3g at least. There's a pretty active thread here in the general forums about it. Some people have been using straight talk, also.

CDMA does not use SIM cards. The S4 is a CDMA/GSM/LTE device. AT&T is a GSM network.
You might have to edit the APN settings to use Straight Talk.

The Verizon S4 is a CDMA phone AND a GSM phone. I believe they made it this way so you can go to about any other country in the world and still use your phone - or it was just cheaper to mass produce the radios with everything in it.
Anyway the only thing to change is the APN settings to
Name=Straight Talk
APN=att.mvno
Proxy=proxy.mvno.tracfone.com
Port=80
MMSC=http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy=mms2.tracfone.com
works perfect. However I did just find a small problem. I have flashed both cyanogenmod and Liquidsmooth AOSP ROMS and they do not work with at&t ST sim - when I call the phone it does not answer or register the call at all. Not sure what the problem is, seems like for some reason it is not registering with the at&t network. Trying to find a fix. However, the phone has worked fine with all TW based ROMS I've tried.
Ok thanks for the information but I have one more question... I am rooted with Clean Rom 1.5, do I have to unroot my phone? Will I still be able use wife tether or foxfi? I heard AT&T took foxfi away.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
Oops just saw that you messaged me - yes just choose GSM. You do not have to unroot your phone but like I said in the last post - I cannot get AOSP roms to receive or make calls - data works - but not phone calls - which is rather strange and I'm sure can be fixed but nothing I have tried seems to work.
GSM is fine but in reality once you get the right LTE bands turned on, would it be better in global?

It won't work either for one of two reasons
First it works strictly thru tmobile SIM card , even tho you get tmo lte
Second the WiFi calling error means that you have to add update 911 address under your My T-Mobile account and then it works
I don't believe using a metro SIM In any tmo Device will get WiFi calling ever ,mainly cause it's alot to do with the tmo sim service the Main reachable service is still metro towers that's why .

I am wanting to set this up too. Metro PCS has good service in my area but they said they're having trouble with the GSM phones connecting to their 4G LTE network. T-Mobile's voice and text work great where I'm at and my brother is on Metro with one of their CDMA phones and his service works well. I literally just got my HTC One today and so far at my house I'm only getting 'G' which I assume is 1x or Edge service correct? When I reboot the phone and it initially connects to 4G and then drops it. I'm wondering if I take it to Metro and have them put it on their network if the 4G will work better? I wouldn't think it would impact it that much though. I have 30 days to try it out before I lose out on being able to return it and I'm all about saving money so switching to Metro is a big deal to me but I need my 4G too!
