Z2 Front Camera Issue. - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I experience a lot of noise when using the front camera on my Z2. If I use the stock camera up the noise seems to get cleared after the picture is taken, however if I use other apps like Snapchat the noise doesn't get removed and it looks like I have taken a picture with a 5 year old phone.
Does anyone else have this issue and is there a way to fix it?

Try cleaning the front camera with cloth?

Z2 camera post-processes picture after you have taken it. They smudge your picture to make it look smooth, as well as brighter if youre on low light. You dont get that "magic" when using 3rd party cameras. Correct me if im wrong.

Not had any problems with rear camera, been able to take really nice pics with it. On the other hand my front facing one seems quite dark

Well, it's a Motorola -of course the camera is crap
But to be honest, the photos your Razr is taking are much worse than normal.
I assume that you have cleaned the lens and set the exposure time to automatic and that you hold the camera still while taking a photo. Furthermore you wait until the rectangle that shows the focus becomes green.
So it could be a hardware problem -maybe the lens does not fit correctly or it's another failure during assembling. In this case you should get a replacement.
It could also be a software problem, I'd try to download a free camera software from the market, place your phone on a rigid surface and shoot a photo. Does it look as blurry as the previous ones I guess you should get a replacement.
I attached two photos I made right now...colour reproduction isn't good with Moto cameras but sharpness should not be a problem.
I tried other camera apps (camera zoom fx, camera ultimate 360) and result is the same.
I read elsewhere that someone else DL'd the Camera Zoom FX app and it made a world of difference.

Decent quality camera for use with CM10.1/2?

The one thing that puts me off using cm10 or any aosp is the terrible camera quality, are there any apps out there that remedy this issue? I've found this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.marginz.snap&feature=search_result but i'd like to know if anyone has their opinion on this app or others.
If the issue could be remedied by apps, the issue wouldn't exist in the first place

not really terrible! it's just not so good as stock camera. as already mentioned, if an app can increase the quality, why does a problem exist?
I don't know about increasing quality, but sometimes (i.e. high contrast photos) is can be useful to have a HDR function. I use HDR camera (the free version has some limitations). Of course it is not same HDR effect of reflex, but not so bad for a phone camera

[Q] Front facing camera

So I finally got the phone and it is beautiful. Though when I use snapchat I mostly use my front facing camera, and it is really not that good. Is this bothering anyone else, or is it my phone? There is a lot of distortion/noise on the picture and even my S3 front facing is better. The main camera is really great though.

I can confirm that on snapchat the front camera quality goes right down.
Seems better in the camera app, could be snapchat issue?

Yeah I tried the camera app, and while taking the picture it is exactly like on snapchat, but when you look at it after the shot is taken most of the noise is gone. Still on snapchat the noise is still there. It is a lot better in light, but terrible in medium light.

Yeah same here. Have actually been searching around the internet these last couple of days to see if anybody else has the same issue.
Front camera is fine in the day, but when inside, even with artificial lighting (nothing major like florescent lights) it goes grainy, like blue and red pixels flying about the screen.
And yes, the picture does improve when the picture processing takes place on the camera app and on Instagram.
But unfortunately, this picture processing does not happen on Shapchat so you get very bad shots in the dark.
It's not a huge issue for me as in most cases, say good to above advantage lighting conditions. the front camera is good enough for small things like Snapchat. But when things do get dark, the image processing can improve things when taken on the camera app.
Oh and the rear camera? Well, no complaints there :good:
I will post some shots later when it gets a bit dark here and see if you can compare
Cheers
Adam
Same here! Its annoying that in anything but perfect natural light is goes rubbish.
I found the new "video chat" type function is pretty poor on forward facing camera too. Slightly better on skype, but still not fantastic. The people I am speaking to on iPhones, it is crystal clear, but on my side its pretty awful. Have you noticed the audio when recording a snap video is pretty poor too? This could be where I am holding it, as my fingers tend to be at the bottom of the phone, so maybe I am blocking a mic?

Camera pictures are way too grainy

A few months back I upgraded my phone from op2 to LG g5 H860.
So, I've been playing around with my phone and I noticed that my camera pictures are grainy. Seems like pictures taken on a 5mp (or lesser) camera.
I took pictures with my camera (all default settings and auto mode) without any zoom and after capturing I tried to zoom in into the picture, like 20% zoom to notice that they are very noisy. I'm not so good at photography, so I never bothered to check this kind of stuff with my other phones before.
I have taken pictures with both rear and front cameras and they both look very noisy. Like water color painted pictures. I'm not sure if I'm putting the right words here but I think you get what I am talking about. I am adding a sample attachment.
Can someone tell me if this is normal or am I missing something here or if there's some problem with my phone itself?
I am already frustrated that I can't unlock my bootloader and I hope this wouldn't add more to it.
Do you tried clear the lenses?

Yes I did. But that doesn't seem to be like a problem with dirty lenses?
Man, I had the same exact problem.. buy new lens.
Try manual mode and turn down the iso speed. Sometimes higher iso speeds produce heavy grain. See if that helps any.

I guess it's the only solution. Thanks.
I had this problem as well. I turned off HDR under settings and that fixed it.
