UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER ONLY!
REMEMBER TO FASTBOOT ERASE SYSTEM/FASTBOOT ERASE USERDATA AFTER INSTALLING KERNEL! (if this makes no sense to you, read the stuff in blue below)
INSTALL HELIUM ROM FIRST, THEN INSTALL DEVICE FILES - failing to do so will result in a black screen after loading CWM (just nap out the battery, reinsert and enter CWM if you forget, then install device files)
For the daring, here you go:
Helium Light ROM - http://www.mediafire.com/download/cib6c62goaq6aa6/helium-light.zip
De-Bloated (Now even smaller!) Helim Light ROM V 1.14 beta - http://www.mediafire.com/download/o2nbydf8a0aco76/helium.v1.14b.zip

This ROM is based on Saqib Nazm's wonderful work, Fluorescent Feather ROM. So most of what´s right with this ROM is his work and thanks to him. : )
The ROM is based on Kappa by kast with batteryfixes added by karandpr.
If anyone wants to use this to build something else upon this, feel free to do so!
If you have no idea how to fastboot erase system/userdata, I made this file for you.
Kernel flasher - http://www.mediafire.com/download/hzn3iqh25g5pxij/Kernel_Flasher.zip
Put this where ever you want (more thanks to karandpr! : ).
Put the kernel image in the IMG folder in Kernel_Flasher. Make sure you only have ONE kernel in the IMG folder. Only put the kernel you wish to flash in the IMG folder. Putting more than one kernel in IMG folder will fail.
Right click on and run Kernel_Flashing_Tool.bat as admin. Hook up your phone. Does not matter if it is in a ROM, in CWM or in fastboot mode. The batch file will do it all.
BUT: This only works if you have the drivers in windows installed for your phone (you do if you have used flashtool to flash other kernels before).
This also makes it easy to flash "back to" a standard kernel later.
Reserved for a rainy day.
Just in case, also, mods, I have no idea what I'm doing. Please don't ban hammer me for trying to give something back to the community, but rather advice me if I'm doing something wrong or have forgotten something. : P
How can?
Verbato said:
IF IT DOESN'T BOOT - DID YOU FASTBOOT ERASE SYSTEM/FASTBOOT ERASE USERDATA?
If you did and it still doesn't want to boot then please report back and I'll make a small change to the ramdisk.
Until there is a Doppler 180, this will be the only kernel with the right layout for this ROM. You could use a regular kernel, but you'd end up with a lot of free space in /system and very little in /data.
Also, minor bug, first time you install the kernel and boot it up wireless won´t work until you reboot. Wireless modules have been added to the ramdisk. But for some reason, the very first time it boots they don´t load. No idea why. Just one of life´s great mysteries I guess. Only happens first time you boot the kernel after installing it.
If you want even more space for installing large programs or even more, insanely many, programs, then I'd recommend you use Mounts2SD. If you download the apk you could even place it in the rom's zipfile inside of /data/app, and it'll be there from first boot! : )
If anyone wants to use this to build something else upon it, feel free!

So... Do you use Windows or OSX? There are several guides out there on how to install fastboot.
xda explanation
Explanation on how to install fastboot in windows, with pictures and all
The commands you want to run are, simply:
Code:
fastboot erase userdata
Code:
fastboot erase system
And if you have the kernel in the same folder as fastboot you could also install it like this:
Code:
fastboot flash boot helium-coconut.img

Everything you haven't tried before seems complicated. Once you've tried it it isn't so difficult. : )
The last link, with pictures, is really the easiest to use.
Also, it's just a matter of installing a different kernel and your phone is fine again. So no worries. : )

No, you have to do that with every kernel that uses a different partition layout scheme for the phone. You have to do the same with the doppler kernel (which is where I was inspired to make this, btw). But yeah, I am the first one to make a ROM dependant on this. Saves you a whole lot of space in /data though! : P

you have to do the same with Doppler and CM11 kernels as well, the reason being the partition sizes are modified to give you more space in the /data partition along with the ability to install more apps into the phone's storage rather than on an SD card which you would have to do if using stock partition sizes because you would quickly run out of space on the /data partition after installing only a few apps...

Thank you! Of course it only works with mini pro (the one I have), it's made for slide-out-keyboard, and since only mini pro has that the "extra files" for that app, they are only added with the mini pro device files. Fixed now though. : )
Sorry for not realising this sooner.
Also, a minor bug no one has mentioned and hopefully not noticed, the installer-script says "installing mini pro device files" in all the roms. Which isn't true. I just copied everything to every "phone", apart from the device files which are unique for every device. This has been fixed as well, just to prevent any panic.
The device files are VERY important. Which is why I've made a rom for each device rather than a simple click-o-rama, which could lead to a simple mistake. Which could lead to a bit of work. : P
So safety first.
I'm thinking about making a "skeleton" out of this ROM and dumping it in developers. It would be nice to have a simple "skeleton-rom" that can be used to build upon. One that only has what is needed in it (a lot of the files in a lot of the roms are full of stuff and things people either don't realise are there - but unnecessary, or just have no clue what are for and unnecessarily leave in there) and is easy for any developer (or trying-out-making-your-own-rom-developer) to make what ever out of. For instance, there is a file called "dop.iso" in most of the roms /system/etc-directory. Get it? "ISO"? It's a CD-file. With a Windows program. Meant to be used in Windows. Not needed for android. Really not. Doesn't take up much space, 1.8Mb, but still. Unnecessary file. And then we have a lot of copies of "toolbox" in /system/bin, called chown, chmod, etc. Which is silly, because most scripts make symlinks to toolbox in /system/bin with those names anyways, so they just take up space, a lot of space! Better still, make symlinks to busybox instead (like I have done). Now I've even edited the ramdisks so /system/xbin is first in path. Means that busybox is found first and any command run in shell uses busybox (like ls, which now gives pretty colours!).
So... in all, there is a lot of space that could be saved. Next thing is finding out of how to save space in /system/lib... Hmmm...
Oh, well. ROMs are updated. I've moved to MediaFire btw. d-h.st didn't want to work properly on upload (the files didn't show up at all!). MediaFire has a nice upload-resume if anything goes wrong. So, MediaFire it is. Also, MediaFire doesn't delete the files if they aren't downloaded by someone within so and so a long time. Also, ramdisks are updated as well. Just a tiny change to path. That's all.

I had actually seen that ISO file and wondered WTF it was doing inside a ROM, then thought it must be there for a reason and let it be
It would actually be great to have a cleaned up skeleton ROM, I'd use it as is (or maybe after deleting a few .APKs from within ) because theoretically, the less clutter the more free resources and the longer the battery life (I hope ) right?

The fewer services run at the same time, the less use there is of the CPU and the less battery it uses. Also, you could download CPU Adjuster (free) and undervolt the CPU. On mine I can make it stable at 750 between 134400 to 364800, 875 between 460800 to 768000 (but as always, your mileage may wary). That makes a whole world of difference in lasting time for the battery. What's stable beyond that depends on how lucky you are with your CPU. Trial and error.
Also, CPU Adjuster lets you have different clock speed settings depending on whether your phone is charging, discharging or in a call (or a whole lot of other circumstances, but I only use charging and discharging). So I don't use any higher clock setting than 768kHz when not charging and 1.4MHz when charging.
Sounds technical. Is really easy when you install and use CPU Adjuster.

I am sure that there are plenty of people that would agree with me that one script that can install all three at the same time would be fantastic. I have managed to get all three working on their own (once), but I have also had to reflash sooooo many times after something goes wrong and I always get something that doesn't install the first time (or breaks all the other things that have been installed already).
PLEASE can one of the guru's of XDA write one script that can enable all three (AND standardize on one version of Busybox so that we don't have to keep changing it - preferably the most recent one). I will happily pay for this functionality.

These are mostly just files that are copied across and replaced or added. I may be wrong but Busybox is just used to execute the commands, so putting together a script that can make all the changes at once shouldn't be impossible. Well, I hope not....
Devs, any reason why this can't work?

All that needs to happen is that the final Busybox that gets copied across/used needs to be the right one for xrec.
If the other bits get tweaked to use this older version then we can standardize on that one (or xrec needs to be tweaked to use the latest busybox - which makes more sense). The key seems to be to make sure that xrec is left with the correct version at the end.

Hey,
Welcome to this tut. It's been active for a few months now but there are some things many users and the dev's want to tell you.
1. DO NOT ask questions about when things are finished.
2. Before you ask an question use the SEARCH THIS THREAD button
3. Post tut related questions in THIS THREAD, so do NOT POST QUESTIONS IN THE DEV THREAD
4. Use the THANKS button when you get your answer.
5. Don't ask questions like "I've done everything but it doesnt work" we really can't help you with such a question cause we don't know where what goes wrong..
If your post is violating one of these "thread rules" (don't call then real rules...) then we'll just report your post. getting it deleted.. etc. etc..
For our "Wise" users here (i mean the ones who actually READ before they post) Don't go flame on users asking stupid questions just leave them allone and REPORT the post
Thanks & Enjoy.

FOTA: MegaUpload (Restored old one)
Ok before we start. The tutorial is now 100% Rewritten. But you still need to read carefully
Notice
Clean out your ENTIRE bada storage first cause we will need almost everything of it
Notice2: This project is still in ALPHA Stage. So don't expect a fully awesome working version yet.
In this version all KNOWN fixes are implented except for root
1. Download all the needed files, when you've done so extract the ZIP with the zImage stuff in it and place it in you bada storage root. (you can extract the .001 with 7-zip)
(i made the Images URLS's because they're to big)
1b. Connect your phone and put it in Mass Storage mode
You should copy your files like the Images below
Bada Storage root:
http://ShadowAS1.com/badadroid/storageroot1.png
This should be inside your storage root:
http://ShadowAS1.com/badadroid/storageroot2.png
This should be inside your galaxyboot folder:
http://ShadowAS1.com/badadroid/storageroot3.png
So inside the sorage root should be your galaxyboot folder and the makext2img.sh
inside the galaxyboot folder should be zImage, SBL.bin and the .IMG file
2.Then you should shut down your phone and boot it in download mode:
Vol Down+Camera+Power and you will see DOWNLOAD MODE on the screen
3.Open up multiloader and take over my config here:
http://shadowas1.com/badadroid/multiloader.png
When you click port search the name "LISMORE" should/can popup next to the right COM port
Now click download and wait for it to finish
Okay, now your phone is ready for the first android run
Boot it by holding power+menu+vol up: (see image)
http://shadowas1.com/badadroid/IMG_0052.JPG
Then this should popup (after the SGS screen)
DO NEVER, ABSOLUTELY NEVER PULL OUT BATTERY OR TOUCH THE PHONE IN THIS PROCESS
http://shadowas1.com/badadroid/IMG_0050.JPG
This can take up to 5 minutes.
Now, Two things can happen
1. The phone boots bada
2. The phone shuts down
In any of this cases your phone is absolutely fine. If you have case 2 you can boot bada to check if everythings alright if you wish.
Assuming we all boot bada shut down the phone again
Boot android in the normal way by holding the Power and Call key
=====Removing Android from your bada partitions======
On request i add this one, In order to remove all android stuff put the "mkext2images-remove.sh" in your bada storage root and boot recovery mode again
Goodluck, ShadowAS1
Good Luck,
ShadowAS1

If some of you are having problems installing VMware due to processor requirements, we can still use the Ubuntu live CD and use gparted disk utility..
Also, we can also use a live CD version of gparted.. just search it at Google..
Wonderful guide to read, testing it now. Will post my results if i manage it (or not )

you can use al programs listed in the phone i can not guarantee that it will work completely this is still pre-alpha
Nice guide...thank you
Hi!
I have followed all the steps.
Now I'm in the First-time Run section and when I start Android (end call and then start call buttons) the screen flashes, then the Galaxy S screen appears. After 6-7 seconds, blank screen and... Samsung Wave and Bada screens with bada startup!
I saw other member in other post having the same issue, but he had still no answer.
Any idea?
Yeap, still same problem as mcmollo after following this guide as well ...
Works for me
Thanks

Yeah, as stated in your and in Shadow's guide.
Yeap, same here: XXJL2 provided in the tutorials.

Yes. I repeated the tutorial 3 times, taking care of doing it exactly as you say. But Bada still loading after Galaxy screen.
Maybe compatibility problem with the SD card?.
Mine is KINGSTON MICRO SD HC 8GB CLASS 4
I created a FAT16 primary partition (4GB) and then the EXT2 partition (4GB).
Will we install waveII (s8530) ?

Some weeks ago, I decided to overclock my Ace: CyanogenMod-7.1.0-RC1-Cooper-KANG plus ClockWorkMod4. Got the overclocking kernel from ketut.kumajaya and started to play with frequencies while watching CSI Las Vegas.
In general, it's stupid idea to multitask things like this. In my case, I accidentally ticked checkbox "Set at boot", set the frequency to around 870 MHz and my phone rebooted. I have gone into the bootloop, tried almost everything:
-reinstallation of CyanogenMod
-reinstallation of some other ROM i have found on my disk
-cleaning caches, wiping etc
Without sucess of course
I have decided to check, what exactly happened with my phone, so connected it to PC and started logcat. There was a lot of errors related to files on /data partition - it did not mount for some reason. I was able to access shell from Recovery, but it did not helped me too much - /data partition was entirely broken.
I realized that Samsung uses its own filesystem for /data - RFS and I had no tools to work with it - at least did not find them. In such case, I have unpacked one of the older firmwares and found, that it contains files for soome partitions, but not for the /data.
Next steps were fairly simple - go to sammobile.com, download firmwares for my Ace and check, if it contains /data (data.rfs). Eventually found one, flashed it and my phone went back alive.
Don't know if this is best method, but at least it was interesting to investigate

In general, overclocking means that system can work in an undeterministic manner. Especially an overclocked processor can write some garbage to flash - in my case it was /data partition.
Can't belive that any "Safe Mode" could help - if you play with fire, you should be ready for some burns

Everyone knows the risks and there are more than enough warning messages floating around highlighting the BLATANT ramifications of over clocking. Call me harsh, but isn't this what we DIDN'T want to see cluttering the forums? Let this be a lesson to anyone else who decides to flash the kernel.

It is good option to have such tool handy, but one can understand, that overclocking can hit the phone in more complex way. This was my case - overclocked system damaged partition /data.
My message is that overclocking is dangerous and one should be prepared for any results including bricking.
Comparing this with usual process of installing new firmware, recovery, bootloaders etc, overclocking is far more dangerous because of uncertainity generated by the unstable processor.

Hi again,
Answering to myself : S5830XWKPO v2.3.3 makes the trick.
Bye
similar bootloop for CM7.2 perhaps with similar solution?
Hi,
I am having a similar bootloop problem for CM7.2.
I have Odin installed, but I don't think sammobile firmware page currently stocks the appropriate files. Clicking on the links for the files just links to mediafire, invalid or deleted files. for some of those files.
I do however have some backups I made with nandroid which may be incomplete: These are all of the files generated.
cache.rfs.tar data.rfs.tar nandroid.md5 system.rfs.tar
I also just installed Android Developer Tools for Linux.
Can I use any of these things especially data.rfs.tar in Odin to fix my phone.
I just interested in how you loaded the data.rfs.tar into Odin, because I have read it is very sensitive to file order, and Odin is a good canditate mechanism for bricking my phone.
I have CW5 installed. My phone can go into download mode, and I can see corresponding COM ports in Odin.
Sorry I have not posted on the most appropriate topic, but I am interested in the way you solved your problem with logcat, and then flashing data.rfs.tar
BTW: I also found this package somewhere: I think its the whole gingerbread stock rom. Simply adding the zip to the SDCARD and trying to install from SDCARD, after clearing cache etc. wont do anything. Yet on the other hand none of these files are any good for Odin either.
~/Desktop/android_device_samsung_cooper-gingerbread$ ls
AndroidBoard.mk BoardConfig.mk init.gt-s5830.rc liblight recovery sec_key.kl ueventd.gt-s5830.rc
Android.mk camerashutter kernel overlay recovery.fstab sec_touchscreen.kl unzip-files.sh
AndroidProducts.mk device_cooper.mk libaudio prebuilt recovery_kernel setup_fs UsbController.cpp
bdaddr_read egl.cfg libcopybit qwerty.kl recovery.rc setup-makefiles.sh vendor
bluedroid extract-files.sh libgralloc ReadMe sec_jack.kl system.prop vendorsetup.sh
I wonder if anyone knows the best way to get this format of ginger bread to unzip and expand off the sdcard?
Thanks so much for any help, It would be much appreciated (even if the help is just the suggestion that I should repost under a different forum topic).

hello! i had your problem with my ace and i could not find a solution at first but after a while i had worked out a solution. i find this one a bit easier to follow for noobs NOT guaranteed to work. also you will lose ALL DATA
1.flash stock through odin (2.3.5 reccomended)
2.wipe/factory reset
3.flash this: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-eHBmC1vSXGc1BRSWlqRW1Nc28/edit - this will root your device
4.afterwards flash this: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-eHBmC1vSXGeWNBOXhCVjZTRkk/edit - this will give you cwm
5.turn off then boot into recovery again.
6.wipe data/factory reset, cache, dalvik cache, mount and format system
7. install this ROM: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-eHBmC1vSXGVU1TSjdpUlF4MDg/edit
8.boot up your phone. it will take about 5 minutes to boot again, and you will have xperiatized rom. you can now flash whatever rom you like or go back to stock. i hope i have helped you and if i have please hit thanks
Hi,
Thanks for your help and interest. There is no chance that that will work in my situation since I have never succeeded in flashing the stock android from the samsung website. In fact, I have never been able to flash anything with Odin at all. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Samsung drivers. Uninstalling Kies etc, using specific Samsung data cable. No measure I took was able to satisfy the condition that Odin could flash a ROM onto my Samsung gts-5830, which made me sad for a while.
Also thanks for granting permission to share googledocs files. Unfortunately I was unable to download Root.zip from google docs. Due to following error, but given I can't flash stock Android, the downloading the files will not help anyway. (Browser gives error message

*Just To Feel Stock ICS
*Wanting Custimization In a Certain Boundry
*Less Dangerous (Not sure about this But Put it here anyways )
*FileSize
*You Can restore Data/system/boot/cache With CWM using Advanced Restore

How to Install Noob Guide (Only for People Who have No clue How to Flash even tho You should Leave Now if you dont know what your doing )
Step 1) Download the fastboot Package and Install Drivers By Going to Device manger and enter fastboot (via Holding search While Device off, Then Your PC should Try to locate Drivers If everything Goes well It will Fail.
Then Manually Click Browse for them and go to were your Fastboot is But When you get here -->Fastboot-->Fastboot.exe & Drivers Just seelect Drivers and click ok.

Then Just Copy the files over.
Step 6)Go to "Backup and Restore" and Click The backup "File name" If you rename the backup makesure there are no spaces or you'' Get MD5 Mismatch.
Remember to extract the Zip to ClockWorkMod-->Backup-->Backup here.

In no means Is this a ROM its a Backup for many purpose and requires an Unlcoked Bootloader Not having so will Result In a Bootloop or Your Phone Wont boot.
This does not act upon a ROM or Theme just a Backup so please use Custom ROMs If there Is anything You wish to add Comment Below and State What you Woould Like.

u should know... the shift+Rclick doesn't work on Windows XP OS.
I had a verry hard time figuring where do people see this command line when i was using windows xp.
And when selecting fastboot drivers in device manager, windows xp doesn't have the option to automatically search for the proper drivers inside the entire "drivers" folder.. u'll have to manually select the proper .inf file.. wich ofcourse i didn't know the good one since there are many. the automatic search for the driver is only available in windows 7 (and vista?)
thought u should mention it.

Introduction:
In this "new" ( circa 2019 ) method of "starting from scratch", or called "clean installing", the user will flash various ZIP files depending on the ROM version user wants to install.
The actual install of Automatic_Wipe_All_and_Create_Android_with_Swap_Partition.zip ( boot.img ) will be done by the the script TPTB_WipeAll_TWRP_v02_win.bat. Wipe_All creates a 500 Mb swap partition, and re-creates the system, cache, media and data partitions with sizes of 2200 Mb, 200 Mb, 500 Mb, and "rest of memory" respectively, also automatically installs version 3.2.1-0 of TWRP which is required for the other ZIPs.
Boot partition is always 32 Mb, its a fixed size.
To be clear: this method will erase everything, even WebOS and makes the HP Touchpad 100% Android. It will also create new media, cache, data, system and SWAP partitions, and make the HP Touchpad work as a tablet ( laptop with a touch screen ), not a smartphone in Android.
Thoughts about the video:
The Video is now semi-obsolete, because alot has changed since 2017. So you must follow the instructions in this updated thread, but the video helps because if you understand the video you will understand the instructions in this thread. The Video below is Installing Nougat, but you can use this method for ALL VERSIONS of Android since 4.4 just use the proper ZIPs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDu1bocZHqw
Assumption:
This method assumes you already loaded and have working TP Toolbox v0.42. ( w/Novacom and Java )
--- if you don't have TP Toolbox installed on your PC please watch the video in RolandDeschain79's link from 0:00 to 2:15 RolandDeschain79Link
======================================================================
Steps to success for loading any version of Android since 4.4:
Perform the following steps on a PC to prepare it for load:
I. Download the NEW DoubleStuff.7.2019.zip:( click link below )
Download DoubleStuff.7.2019.zip
DoubleStuff.7.2019.zip contains these two key files:
1. TPTB_WipeAll_TWRP_v02_win.bat
2. uImage.WIPE
Download and extract, and place both files in the same directory as your working tptb_v42_win.bat on your PC.
II. Select and Download which version of Android ROM, Gapps and other zips you want.
Locate and download the ZIPs: I will link to HP_TOUCHPAD's Master List of Zips: ( see Master list link below ), but you can also find ZIPs in other XDA HP Touchpad threads too.
Its best to put your downloaded ZIPs into a storage folder that you have created on your PC, purely for organization.
#1 ) ROM
#2) Pick one of these three Settings files for this #2 ZIP install: These files are in the "ALL files for this ROM" zip, then look under a folder of the same name, and then select the frequency zip of your choice.
-- MAX_Kernel_Ramdisk_build_prop_Settings ( Latest HpTp_MAX_Universal_Optimize_Swap )
-OR-
-- Stock_Kernel_Changed_Ramdisk_build_prop_Settings ( HpTp_Universal_Optimize_Swap )
-OR-
-- Original_ROM_Settings ( Use the Tablet with phone settings, no swap partition )
( The first two are the magic behind the performance and speed, because these settings enables Android to use the swap partition, the third is the original settings for the ROM and you will have better battery performance. )
All the Universal Optimize Swap Settings files provide the same settings and kernel, the difference is the preset CPU frequency. As per the Boost settings always start with 1674, and after that is working good, you can try to flash a higher frequency for speed like ( 1728, 1782 or 1836 ), and you don't have to re-flash all the ZIPs again, just the UOSS file from TWRP recovery. If it freezes screen, or keeps rebooting just go back and flash lower frequency, Because those symptoms are telling you that your particular HP TOUCHPAD can't handle the higher speed.
#3) ROM Reducer ( Optional ) These files are in the "ALL files for this ROM" zip, then look under the folder with name "ROM Reducer" then out of the 3 zip files in the selected folder, first go with the ROM_reducer, later if you want to permanently remove the features/apps, or restore the features/apps, you can use the "Remove" and the "Restore" zip files.
Essentially this HP Touchpad ( circa 2011 ) has around 650 MB of free RAM (Memory), this is relatively low, so the ROM Reducer flash file "removes" some Android Features and System Apps to give the old Touchpad some extra needed RAM. So in theory this will make for a faster experience.
#4) GApps
Select platform ARM and the android version that matches ROM and the variant you want, Pico is recommended. The goal is to keep the system "lean and clean", and by doing this you will get the best performance and efficiency.
#5) SuperSu v2.82 ( Optional )
ROMs have system Read and Write enabled, download and flash SuperSu v2.82 if you want root access.
#6 ) Latest TWRP ( Optional, but if you want and/or need a different version of TWRP other than 3.2.1-0, then you need to download one. )

FLINTMAN-TWRP-3.2.1-0-03-15-2018.zip
Stick with the package you select, don't mix and match versions, and stay with WIFI version unless you know better.
Set all ZIPs that you have downloaded into the storage folder on your PC for now, we will need them later.
III. Touchpad/PC Execution steps:
Boot into WebOS Recovery ( giant USB symbol ) with cable connected to PC.
Run the custom script TPTB_WipeAll_TWRP_v02_win.bat:
It will give you the option of running the TPTB where you can perform some maintenance steps. Most users will select '1' to run WIPEALL from Main Menu.
III. Touchpad/PC Execution steps: continued
Most users will START here, after pressing '1' in Main Menu.
Continue ( press "c" ) with the TPTB_WipeAll_TWRP_v02_win.bat, it will then load the uImage.WIPE, you should see a quick blue flash, and an orange header with some white text. Wait until the orange header disappears, it will then automatically reboot. ( about 2 minutes ).
At reboot, select Recovery on moboot menu, then press home key.
Wait, and you will see the automatic load of 3.2.1-0 TWRP recovery.
Wait, and you will see Touchpad drive mounted on your PC.
TWRP recovery automatically creates a folder in the /data/media directory called TWRP, on the Internal SD card ( data ).
IV. TWRP Install steps:
( If screen falls asleep, and power and home buttons don't respond, tap screen )
Once in TWRP Recovery, go to your PC which is still connected via cable to TouchPad:
Locate the storage folder on your PC where you stored your ZIPs.
Copy the ZIPs: ( drag and drop )
1) ROM, 2) Universal Optimize Swap Settings 3) ROM Reducer 4) Gapps, 5) SuperSu and 6) Permanent Recovery zip files into the /Touchpad/InternalStorage/TWRP mounted Touchpad volume.
( P.S. actually you can copy the zips anywhere in 'Internal Storage' or 'Micro SDCard' Touchpad mounts, as long as you know where to find them on your Touchpad, I am just giving you the default location for simplicity sake )
2) Once copy is complete, you can disconnect the USB cable from the PC and Touchpad.
3) These zips will then show up in the /sdcard/TWRP or /data/media/TWRP directory on your Touchpad.
4) Select INSTALL from TWRP, drill to /sdcard/TWRP directory, then load in this specific order ( pressing 'add more zips' between loads )
== ROM,
== HpTp Universal Optimize Swap Settings,
== ROM Reducer,
== Gapps,
== SuperSu
== Recovery TWRP
then swipe to flash.
It will take awhile for the system to flash these zips ( about 5 mins ) until the reboot option shows up.
press reboot system button
At Moboot menu I selected "boot Evervolv" your menu item might be a different name depending on the ROM you installed.
During my experimental testing I loaded Evervolv Nougat and it took about 15 additional minutes until I got to the Android Start screen after "boot Evervolv" selected. Mileage may vary.... but soon your HP Touchpad will be in the promised land of Android with swap.

Doublestuff, bringing this to this thread since I am using your instructions to get this far.
After using the 4/13 nightly and getting setup wizard has stopped I tried the 4/6 as indicated below.
The steps I have taken are to use tptb_v42_win.bat for the toolbox to wipe the data then resize volumes to
--Media: 1024 MB,
--Cache: 200 MB,
--System: 1312 MB,
--Data: the rest of the memory
Then after shutting that down and bringing up the big USB symbol using the volume and power button again to run TWRP_TmpLoad_v03_win.bat and copy the files below into the TWRP folder on the touchpad.
ev_tenderloin-7.1.2-nightly-2017.04.06.zip
open_gapps-arm-7.1-pico-20170415.zip
FLINTMAN-TWRP-touch-data_media-SELINUX-f2fs-3.1.0-0-3-24-17.zip
Once the files were copied over I disconnected from the PC and added to the install in the order above.
The install indicates no MD5 so a check is skipped and seems to proceed to install each of the three zips fine. When I get to the end of that there are two buttons (one to wipe cache/DavLik and the other to Reboot). I tried both with and without the wipe cache before the reboot with the same results.
After the Evervolve logo with the cycling colored letters goes for a few minutes it gets to the setup screen, clicking on either copy settings or start new setup give the error "Setup wizard has stopped, Open app again" then "Setup wizard keeps stopping, close app".
The only difference I can see I resized the Media to 1024 where your instructions indicate 1000 but I cant see that as being any problem though to be honest my knowledge here is limited.
Any ideas for something else to try are appreciated.

This part I dont think I am understanding
"but remember later on you still have to load the permanent TWRP with install."

Go have a read at this page in the DevsBase forum if you haven't already. It is discussed that there have been problems with the setup wizard.<Mod Edit: Link removed. Please don't redirect members to other mobile forums. Thanks!>
Also, I see in the discussion there that the nightly builds are now 4/13 so you might try that date build and see if the problem has gone away. I also saw discussed that some folks there were installing older builds that did not have the setup problems and then using TWRP to flash the newest builds. Otherwise, from what you posted, you are doing everything right.

As long as the Media is greater than 1000 MB it should be OK.....
Essentially the program TWRP_TmpLoad_v03_win.bat loads TWRP temporarily by using a novacom command to load uImage.TWRP to the HP Touchpad, but you still have to download and have as one of your 3 zips something like this FLINTMAN-TWRP-touch-data_media-SELINUX-f2fs-3.1.0-0-3-24-17.zip, so that you can have a permanent load of TWRP after all is said and done.
Hey guys! Went through all of these steps and got it to boot! However, after it booted for quite a while, it started up the setup wizard, and immediately stops whenever you choose an option, whether it be "Set up as new" or "copy your data."
Is it something I've done wrong? Any help would be appreciated!

No your not doing anything wrong, the new nightly builds are going through a particularly buggy phase the last few builds. I am assuming you used the 4-19 nightly. Lets try an earlier Testing build.
If you have time, just for kicks and for testing purposes can you try again but use Flintmans latest testing 3-25 ROM instead of the Evervolv Nightly.
Try this ROM and lets see if it fixes the issue:
http://evervolv.com/static/builds/testing/Queo/ev_tenderloin-7.1.1-testing-2017.03.25.zip
If you notice the user "w_three" had the same issue in an earlier post on this thread....
okay I'll give that a go tonight! I noticed on the release page forums they were talking about how you had to dirty flash the newer roms on and figured that was my problem.
=UPDATE=
Ran as per the instructions with a nice clean install and it booted fine! Takes forever to boot and get through the" finishing touches" but it looks like it's working fine!! Four days ago this tablet was bricked!
Thanks for all the help!
After letting this rest for a few days I decided to give it another go.
Used the 3/25 zip you posted above DoubleStuff and finally past the set up error. Going through it now. Thanks for posting that Rom.

Great! W_three, that you finally got it working, from what I have been reading on devs-base, Open Gapps are only running through 7.1.1, and as of April 4th (4/4) Evervolv nightlies have switched to 7.1.2. ( see pic below ) Some people have a theory that this is causing the set-up wizard to break. To get around this issue, some people have been "clean" flashing an older 3-25 ROM see link to that in post #8 ( or in theory anything before 4/4 nightly ), then "dirty" flashing the newer ROMs on top of that. I am just reporting on what I read, not sure how accurate it is.
See in below screenshot how name changes from 7.1.1 ( green ) to 7.1.2 ( red ).....just sayin'

Just know that this Nougat ROM is still only in Beta, so there will be bugs and lagginess.
As Nevertells2 would tell anybody, JC Sullins KitKat 4.4.4 ROM is probably the most stable.
Setup Wizard fails
My Setup Wizard fails and I see the note below:
*NOTE: as of 4/4 since start of 7.1.2, if your having issues with setup wizard after the install you might want to flash this older ROM instead ( before 4/4 ), then dirty flash a newer ROM
How do I perform this?
How do I flash with a older ROM (before 4/4) and then dirty flash a newer ROM? Can you elaborate?
Thank you in advance.

Well underneath that red letter explanation in the Original Post, is a link to a 3-25 ROM, flash that using the alternative method described in OP. That is called a clean install.
Then once you get that going, you can dirty install the current 5-8 ROM, by selecting this once tablet is running:
Settings->About Tablet->Evervolv Updates->Nightly Tab->Refresh, then download the zip, and boot into recovery and flash it. If you don't understand this terse explanation, I have pasted RolandD's How to dirty flash and root video below ( from 1:19 to 3:17 is Dirty Flash )
Dirty Flash Instructions
Hi, Ive ran each step as instructed twice, just to be sure. both times I get only an external sd card selection, no internal card or data selection once files load and I run twerp it installa yet I get a failed to mount data invalid argument. what am I doing wrong?

Hello deafasheck, I have been following you on these boards for years, and you always get errors and issue that are different from the norm. LOL
In fact you even call J.C. Sullins by an unusual name ( JC Sullivan ) LOL, but I have seen Nevertells2 correct you a few times, so I think we are good to go there.
As far as your issue, did you load the 3-25 ROM first? Then try to dirty flash the latest nightly? I would like to know more details on the procedure you used. But you maybe in luck, because I think there is another thread today that has a similar ( mount and volume issues ) and RolandD gave him a answer and a few links...

Missed a step.
Hi DoubleStuff, yeah I'm way out of my league, but have learned so much in forum, I found out what I done wrong. I didn't move file size in data only moved cashe and system to as close as could to instructions. it fixed right up once I put data size, I noticed cam still inverted, does new ROM resolve that? I'm going back and dirty flash that ROM I ove the size if this, it doesn't take up much space has less bloatware and I use UC browser which is so so Philz kk is best I have tried . but I'm gona toy on this one Ive almost mastered this touchpad insyallations even learning codeing, just not yet.. I do dislike the home launcher, so used to having one like the one in kk or nova. Ive not bricked mine yet! was worried for awhile. but any thing I need to know is on here . thanks for the reply..
im still learning how to post specs of tablet. JC Sullin huh? yeah, Im good on typos. dang laptop mouse jumps around.. well here we go, going to dirty flash newest rom, wish me luck.. thanks..

Hello deafasheck, I am glad your learning and taking the advice of Nevertells2 which is "read, my friend, read!!"
Yes the Stock Camera is still inverted, but haven't you heard? That if you go to google play store and download "Open Camera" app it works fine in Nougat, let me know what you think of it. I am glad you figured out your own problem that is telling me you are learning quite a bit since you were a "newbie" in 2014!! :good:
OK deafascheck I wish you luck in your dirty flash download? And your experiment with "Open Camera" and hope you learn how to code at least in BAT and VBS files, because when Oreo ( Android "O" ) comes out we will need to tweek the code for this Alternative method again!! I am doubling down that its called Oreo, hence my Avatar.
Thank you so much, yes got to learn code and terminal commands. on the subject of dirty flash, is that same as loading the via tptb as I did with the permanent files when Initial install ?

deafasheck, defasheck, defasheck, come on now we have been studying "dirty flashes" since you were a "newbie" in 2014, and our friend RolandD has made many videos on it....in fact in this ROM alternative thread in post #13 at the bottom of the post is a good video that explains "dirty flashes"....learn it, love it, live it!!!
Good Luck in all your learning Deafasheck!!! :highfive:
POST #13 for deafasheck learning dirty flashes.
Videos don't help much, I'm deaf as heck.. and getting lost in the steps.. from what I recasll dirty flash is asop I did one as I had in the original install ie placed in twerp flashed from twerp. that worked as far as I know? I'm trying to find the super user link I seen earlier, once I get ROM and SU I'm gonna get the camera app. thanks..
