Trouble with TWRP 2.7.10 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

I have a Galaxy S5 from T-Mobile and was using TWRP recovery. I had made a back-up of everything and had to restore using it. After the restore Every app I tried to open had this error "unfortunately (app name) has stopped. This was with every app!!! Is there a setting I am missing? Could it have to do with other back-ups , i.e. Dropbox , Google or Samsung. Do these have to be turned off?
Please help.

Hey Leon, sorry for your problem.
When you made a back up, it was with twrp or titanium backup, or something else?
I had an issue using the backup feature of any custom recovery, so I stick to using titanium backup and having it back everything up to my sd card so if I flash anything and the internal memory is wiped, I still have my data.
Hope you get it figured out Leon.

TWRP 2.7.0.0 makes reliable backups for the S5. There was an update to 2.7.1.0 a few weeks ago (the version number in your thread title is incorrect). The changelog for the current version doesn't appear to suggest any major changes and I don't see any reason to rush into an upgrade. Newer isn't necessarily better and I will wait a while before updating in case any unexpected bugs arise.
Having said that, it's unlikely that there is a problem with TWRP. The TWRP team does great work and bugs are rare. You should read the TWRP threads to see if anyone else is having problems. The existing threads would also be a more effective place to seek assistance. Bugs should be posted to the TWRP github issues log so that they can address them.
.

I have there exact same problem. I was too lazy to report that and then I saw your that. After restoring the backup, none of the apps open. No solution yet.

An easy workaround and a way to identify some alternate causes of your difficulties would be to use version 2.7.0.0 for now since it has been widely reported as reliable.

Go into recovery and fix permissions and wipe all caches

You posted earlier that you had the exact same problem as the OP. But now it turns out that you're not even using the same version of TWRP as he is.
If you missed that critical detail, it raises the real possibility that you might be using a TWRP build intended for a different device. And that would surely cause just the type of problem that you are having. Ensure that you are using a TWRP or Philz build that is intended for your exact handset.

TWRP 2.4 is out

Hello fellow Touchpad enthusiasts,
I happened to see TWRP has a version 2.4 available to us - http://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/tenderloin
I saw it posted in other device forums, but not ours so thought I'd share the news.
About all I can tell you is it installed without any major problems. Nothing else tested other than boot into it and reboot to CM 10. I just moved ver 2.3 and copy/renamed 2.4 into same directory. Only problem encountered was old ver permissions were messed up so had to mess around before I was able to move the old ver. That and I reset permission on new ver to match - forget what I modeled it after - the other recovery uImage since I have them both installed.
As always ymmv.

It would be easier for you to install from goo manager, just tap install openrecoveryscript and your done.

Good idea, thanks dawg
I read about incompatibility problems between TWRP 2.4.3.0 and TouchPad.
But does anybody know what about the new twrp-2.4.4.0-tenderloin?
Please fulfill:
TWRP v.________ and ROM ToolBox
CWM v._________ and GooManager
Edit:
Above is false. You should use ...
... TWRP with GooManager and ...
... CWM with ROM ToolBox!
I will stick with CWM. Seems stable enough, it works as it should, and I don't mind to scroll through using my volume rocker.

I updated to 2.4.4 but haven't tested yet, but lots of people were having issues on the Nexus 4 on 2.4.3.0 and after the update nobody has any problems. I know the touchpad is a different animal but i bet it works now. No way I'm ever going back to cwm. Twrp has the best setup & all the right features.
Everytime I tried to flash a zip for a bug fix (headphone detection glitch, etc) it would fail in TWRP. Every time. So I went back to CWM. Goomanager is completely unreliable in regards to finding rom updates, etc.

Are you using the latest version? Twrp is working perfectly for me.
Update:
I take my message back. I backed up, did a factory reset, restored my backup, & everything is there except it twrp didn't restore my app data nor my system settings data.
Update:
I just flashed shumash's new build with success. So flashing in twrp is now working fine for me. Going to have to investigate why my restore didn't fully work on my previous post.
Is anybody else using the latest Twrp?
New twrp 2.5 out. Haven't tested it out yet. But it looks like they fixed the restore issues.

Nice! Let us know how it goes for you. I had a few issues with 2.4.4 but my last couple backups and restores worked great. Thanks for letting us know!
And it don't work. Its worse. It restored 5 apps out off 250... It booted though. But i also had a cwm backup done right before so its all good.

Perhaps give TWRP2 a try as the recovery. I've had more success with it over CWM with newer ROMs and never went back to CWM.
When reporting an issue... it's a fantastic idea to describe your problem as clearly as you can.
"Error blah blah blah Bad ... blah blah blah" doesn't really help anyone to help you.
Cwm gave your an error, now I can only assume it was a status 7 error.
That means your recovery is older than the type of script used in the zip to flash the rom.
To fix this, do as the poster above said and get the latest twrp, or find an updated version of cwm.
I personally use twrp so I'm not 100% sure where to find the latest cwm if it's not here on xda.
Now... if this isn't the error you're getting. Do yourself a favor and just flash that rom and
POST EVERY SINGLE THING CWM SAYS.

Hey Folks, The error I am seeing is on both TWRP and CWM. E:Can't open /sdcard/cm-10.1-20130303-NIGHTLY-quincyatt.zip(Bad) Installation Aborted.

Hi,
what did you mean you went back to stock? and what is USSD?
here are my issues:
Hi, I really love this CM 10.1 ROM I am running the 10.1 201330209-unofficfial-quinctatt. Everything works fine except when I reboot the phone it loads the boost screen starts up and then freeze once done with the boot screen.
SO I need to restart the phone a few times to be able to get it back on.
---also I have 5.8.4.3 CWM in stalled and try to use ROM manager when it works even got the paid version but booting into CWM works best.
I am unable to install the latest cm-10.1-20130306-EXPERIMENTAL-quincyatt-M2.zip. I get a.
--- "zip status 7 aborted message.
Also when I try to install cm-10.1-20130304-EXPERIMENTAL-quincyatt-M2.zip. it installs fine,
But when I try to place calls.
---there is no sound on the speaker or external or internal.
I would like to stay current on the nightlies but are these just some of the glitches that come with it?
---Also I tried installing the GB-modem because my GPS wont lock, I think that is when the phone quit allowing me to make calls(no sound on speakers) which help the gps a little I guess? not really.
I am now back on the i717UCLF6 baseband.
If it wasnt for my nandroid back up I would be totally LOST!
I mostly use liquid Mod it works best, love it! but would like to be on 10.1 CM. Still no gps lock though. I REALLY NEED GPS, i drive a lot for work.
I know there is a lot going on here buy ANY! help is very much appreciated!
Install the latest TWRP recovery ...IMHO And although I might get flames thrown for this, use recovery to flash directly, and not through the rom manager app.
It has caused users some grief...
Regarding your sound and boot errors, boot into recovery and wipe all caches ....cache/dalvik cache .....then reboot too test. It sounds as if your flash may be dirty somehow. And if restoring apps to your new roms by using titanium backup or other apps, restore only the APK and not the associated data stored by those apps.
CM nightly builds are buggy yes, and will have errors not found in stable builds. But having used the same build you are referring too only a day ago, I can tell you that my sound was okay with the M2 rom.
And I commend you on the creation of a proper nandroid backup. It seems all too often we find users in real trouble with no backup in their pocket to save them.
Call me anal retentive, but I flash bleeding edge tweaks every day, and I keep backups compatible to all 3 recoveries we have for the note just for this type of emergency.
The latest TWRP and a cache cleaning should help you with both the current build, and future builds to come.
Good luck, and happy flashing ...g

[Q] cant install RLS 6 Hyperdrive in my s4

when i install RLS 6 hyperdrive my phone starts fine but after one minute it restarts and again turns again on works fine for 30 seconds and again restart help!!!!
When posting something like this its good to know the beforehand so people know what led up to this. Did you wipe? What recovery you using? Did you follow the install instructions word for word?
SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
A couple of possibilities:
Make sure you wipe per the dev's recommendations prior to flashing.
Try installing with minimal mods and see if you can get it to boot. Once you flash, you can always dirty flash the same installer and pick a couple additional mods and see what's causing the issue. Some people noted they were having problems with the Walkman mod causing bootloops.
Check the MD5 of your download against what is in the OP. If you downloaded to PC then copied to SD card, check that the MD5 on the card matches that on the PC and what's online (some people had problems where the file was corrupted during transfer to phone).
Also making sure you have one of the most recent recoveries is a good thing to check. I believe I used TWRP 2.6.0.0 and it worked fine for me.
Finally, try using the stock kernel instead of stock optimized or a third party kernel. I can use stock or stock optimized, for example, but when I flash faux it bootloops about 80% of the time on my phone.
There is a good bit of info about the bootlooping issue on RLS6 in the original Hyperdrive thread. Start on page 472 and read on from there.

Did you flash with twrp or cwm. Theres been a few people reporting bootloops when wiping/flashing with twrp. If so you might want to try cwm. Have been using cwm since the DX was the "it" phone. Got it on 4 devices now and have never had a single problem with it.

Good to know. I believe that I followed the dev instructions as well.
One time my uncle was over and I was telling him about a marital concern. He told me that I should probably not do what I had been doing and that there was probably a better way. I listened to him and life has been better. Life is full of choices.

I have also been having difficulty with both bootloops and the phone freezing on the Samsung image and not booting past this point.
I did a full wipe including data with Twrp. After multiple attempts I'm considering switching to CWM. My question is how to I install CWM on a device without a functioning rom?
Does this require flashing back to stock with odin or is there an easier way?

You can flash CWM from within TWRP, just use ADB to copy the zip file onto your phone then flash, or alternatively you can use fastboot to flash a new recovery directly to the phone. Neither method needs a working ROM to accomplish.

Flashed newest TrickDroid ROM, not rooted anymore?! Help please!

Hey guys,
So I decided to flash the newest TrickDroid ROM (ver 11.0, I believe), and for whatever reason, my phone is telling me it isn't rooted anymore. I made a backup of all my data using Titanium, but I don't believe I made a Nandroid backup. SuperUser is saying that is needs to update the su binary, but I get an error when I try to update. Titanium can't do anything because it doesn't have root access.
I have VERY limited knowledge about this stuff and I really am not sure what to do. Please help! And thank you!

Go to the download section and choose the third option which is the link to flashable zips on his website. Go ahead and download the latest version, I believe it's 1.65 at the moment. Then just flash it in recovery, no need to wipe your data or anything.
See if that helps, should restore your root.

Thanks! Another problem (and this might require a new topic), it seems like every time I try to uninstall apps via tibu, when I restart my phone ALL of those apps come back. Most of them are HTC apps, but some aren't. I've uninstalled them 4 times now and they KEEP COMING BACK. It's very odd.
Also, I received an error (also in tibu) mentioning my Device ID had changed? I had it change it back, but perhaps this is related to the issue?

The only info I could find was the possibility that I might need to change my kernel. Which would be terra nova for me, as I'm upgrading from a previous version of Trickdroid. Maybe you were able to find something else?

TWRP crashing...

I'm trying to use TWRP to update to a new cm12 nightly, but every time I select the zip and try to flash it, TWRP crashes and reboots. Is there something I'm missing? It's probably just a noob mistake... For example I only today figured out how to get TWRP to cooperate with encryption and my pattern lock on boot up, hah. I thought it wasn't mounting storage because something was corrupted. Anyways, thanks for any suggestions you can give.

2.8.5.0. But I did some more tinkering today and eventually solved my problem. Here's to help you others who saw the same thing: I tried using progressively older versions of TWRP to see if they're used work, until version 2.8.2.1 I think. At that version, instead of crashing, it gave me an error that my zip file was corrupted. I deleted the zip and downloaded it again, switched back to version 2.8.5.0, and everything worked. (except for the Rom, which had bugs that made it unusable, but at least it flashed successfully and booted lol). Hopefully my experience can help someone else now.
I'm having issues with twrp hopefully I found the right thread. It shows no storage available? I'm trying to flash CM. Thanks
