I get that it's not a Nexus 4 and it's around $100 more off contract. I also get that the GS3 has more brand awareness, but this is a really awesome phone. I actually think the LG skin is good and adds a lot of functionality over stock Android.
I have a GS3, Note II, iPhone 5, and Lumia 920. This is my favorite phone out of all of them. The screen, feel in the hand, speed, and software touches make it almost a perfect device. Battery life has been good and my only real complaint is that the camera could have been better.
So what's holding it back? Marketing? I know LG has stumbled in the past, but this is not one of those times. I honestly probably wouldn't have even thought to buy the phone if not for the article about Consumer Reports rating it above the iPhone 5 and GS3 in customer satisfaction. I had to see what it was about and fell in love with it right away in the store.
As it stands, I couldn't recommend this phone more highly to people on AT&T who want an Android phone. I would definitely recommend it over the GS3, and that's saying a lot. The lack of activity in these forums, along with the sparse development tells me that it's definitely not getting into enough hands, and that's unfortunate.
LG's has a rather tarnished reputation as far as smartphone is concerned, they've had long lines of disappointing and mediocre mid-tier releases over the years plus poor record of software updates. Even with a phone like OG, it's going to take awhile to reboot their image.

It's got 1M users, so I'd say it's selling well for a phone not made by Apple, Samsung, or HTC.

That's definitely encouraging, but it could be much better and the forums are a ghost town comparatively.

I've not been a great fan of LG until this phone. I briefly considered that 3d camera phone from 2011 on AT&T that LG made, but ultimately chose the SII (and I made the right choice; I was one more f-ed up phone from buying an iphone). This phone impressed me in reviews and in stores (the demos blew me away). I chose it against the SIII and the One X and other flagship phones due to it matching what I wanted. I loved most of the SIII, but I hated that it had a physical home button. The one x seemed nice, but I didn't like non expandable storage and an unremovable battery. The only thing I had against the LGOG was the battery being built in; however, everything else about it sold me. I feel that LG has finally made a phone worth it (2 phones counting the Nexus), and have the potential to beat Samsung. However, this is an uphill battle for LG. I personally have known people to pick the SIII just because Samsung is the most widely known. LG will have to fight against that in order to be purchased. Plus, people are more impressed by expensive phones, and sometimes buy the expensive ones because they assume those are the best. I really think that that, oddly enough, is also contributing to the LGOG having slightly lower sales numbers.
Tl;dr
LG has a fight with Samsung due to name recognition, and price drops may have had a negative effect. Many customers don't research phones thoroughly, and buy from a certain brand, or the expensive ones (because you get what you pay for).

I'm happy for getting the phone for only $49, but I can't grasp the reason behind the price drop. OG is their only qualified flagship in years yet they are on sale at the price point of low-end giveaways. Granted it's probably just weekend promo but still, I find it odd to lower the price to this range in a non-holiday season.

I think the reasoning behind the price drop is building for the future, if you get your best phone in as many hands possible, the people who by it recommend the brand to others and are more likely to buy lg in the future when its time to upgrade.

I know if any of my friends are looking into a new phone I will put in a good word for the OG. And that is funny because when it came out I originally looked at it and then went "Nah, I still want the One X."
By the time I was able to upgrade, the One X+ was out, at double the price of the OG and I didn't want an outdated phone. Now I'm not saying the One X isn't good, it had just already been replaced by a refresher phone.
I am soo happy with this phone.

The Tegra 3 isn't all that great for speed or battery and I can't stand HTC's broken multitasking.

Half of the reason I made this decision.
I had a Sony Xperia X10 with an ancient 1Ghz snapdragon and then got an Asus Transformer with a Tegra 2...
So I was impressed more by Nvidia/Tegra at the time than Qualcomm/Snapdragon (I know, completely unfair).
But I had been reading everywhere that the S4 Pro was a beast and much better than Tegra 3s.
I don't like Sense anyways and I would have had a custom ROM, so the multitasking wasn't a big deal.
We have an extra gig of RAM to play with too. :highfive:
could it possibly be that the talk of the optimus g pro is throw the prices so low and being released soon.

Doubt it. If the price stays low in states, doesn't bode well with G launch in Europe, unless LG do a dual tier launch of G & G Pro at the same time, but that's a remote possibility given G is set for March release in EU region.

There's always something else around the corner. The Pro is likely months from hitting the U. S. on any carrier.
In all honesty, I'd still choose the G. I prefer the size and the 200mhz overclock would hardly be noticeable.

Speaking critically of the android community for a brief second..
As much as people criticize Apple fans for putting too much value in brand name, a lot of Android fans are really overly zealous Samsung fanboys.
I won't say it's a bad brand or that the phones they make aren't nice.. But, taking a stroll to the Android subreddit you will find a lot of rabid Samsung fanboyism.
We hear less criticism of Samsung these days because they are just that popular.. still I remember as though it were yesterday people wouldn't shut up about how cheap the phones felt, how horrible various aspects of touchwiz were..
And sadly a lot of people won't even consider the LG OG because it's not Samsung.. but, if Samsung were to incorporate some of the LGOG features people would rave over it. I can see it now... slipping the LGOG specs and skin into a Samsung shell and hearing people brag and brag and act as though it Samsung were curing cancer.
Outside of that, honestly at $350 the N4 makes a hell of a deal. Even if you had a contract but, would like to keep your service without signing up for another 2 years would be a nice option.
Besides all of that? Well your average customer is told what to buy really. Speaking as a salesman I can tell you, if you don't know what you are buying, I'll be happy to tell you. (Granted I no longer work in sales but, it was a lesson learned.)
Edit: one final thought. I don't care because I'm honestly just that happy with it..... but, we still don't have an official cm10 port and that hurts us big time.
anyone else looked at this phone? seems like a decent replacement and not too small.
if not, what else are people moving onto?
given up on sony releasing
I'm just looking at nexus, blackberry if the rumors is true that they will move on to android, or the classic HTC.
HTC is probably the manufacturer you can't go wrong with. If you look at this part of the XDA forum..its filled with devs making roms and kernels.
I think s810 is just temporarily. Maybe next year there will be a new series of soc that won't overheat as this years release.
Its just the same as with the tegra 3. You could fry eggs on it. But HTC moved on and improved their devices. And I hope they will release another beast in the near future.
Huawei is enlarging their market on mobile devices but I think its to early to invest in one of those devices. I want there to be devs who makes roms so I don't have to rely only on the stock rom/firmware to work when something goes wrong. If that ever happens...who knows.
Samsung is a no go. They don't exist in my world. Last and only device I owned was the SII Exynos 4210. They make good electronics elsewhere but not mobile devices.
LG is also a no go. Only nexus. To much plastic, big LG logo and weird cheap looking software interface on stock rom. Reminds me of MIUI and Huawei.
SONY is moving from europe home to japan. Okay...weird. So then I just won't buy your stuff then. Bye..I will never buy a sony mobile device again.
When "I" am buying a device. I am only buying the flagships. Because I am looking for an investment that will last for many years and won't seem slow even after four years compared to newer devices. And also the general lifetime of the device. I want there to be devs here on the forum that I can rely on after device has reached the end-of-lifetime.
The Z ultra is a bit special. It has the same hardware specs as its brother Z1....so for performance I would still call this a kind of side show flagship despite the low spec camera.
i'#d be ok with sony if they would release an ultra 2 but it's too late now.
samsung, i liked until the whole locking SIMs to europe only or whatever around the time of the note 3 i tink, maybe 4.
moto x is brand new but there's some people on the board already. once it shows as rooted i'll jump on there. it's cheap as well actually. well cheaper than the ultra was when i bought it

I don't have any experience of motorola exept for the old classic pagers and radios. I've never seen a moto x in real life so I don't really have any opinion. Its offered at a good price yes! but yeah I really dunno. The only con I can see is the tiny battery at 2300mAh.
From what I can see its almost like some mix to a budget nexus device..almost stock rom and no bloat apps. :good:
Me myself is waiting to see what google has to offer. There is already a bunch of pics of the new nexus devices but I'm curiously waiting for the release event

Guys,
I sent the Pixel C back. It died in 2 days. I was looking at the Sony Z4 tab along with the google one. Now I am looking back at it. Is that Sony Z4 tablet still a fantastic tablet? Issues? Just looking for overall comments before I look to find one to buy..I dont see them for sale much right now so I find it might be hard to get one anyway. But thought I would ask before I started looking..
Well I was in the same boat as you. I recently purchased the Nexus 9 lte tablet but wasn't happy with it due to the poor construction and some light bleed issues in the screen so I decided to look for this Z4 in Amazon and got it for $589.00 Free shipping and no Tax. Man best choice I've ever made! Really well build table, super thin, great speakers and water proof. Doesn't have many development support or Roms support but you can root it, install Xposed, debloat it and live with it.....oh and great battery life. Compatible with T-mobile and At&t LTE even it says 4G.
Yes is still a great option almost a year after of his released.

My topic My Z4 Tablet Pros and Cons gives some of my and other's thoughts that are still relevant for the most part.
Also, the tablet flies on Marshmallow. I'm still super happy with my choice.
Does anyone think they might come out with a replacement for it anytime soon?

The problem with android tablets is that they do not sell well. That causes OEMs to only release mid to low end tablets perpetuating the situation. It's a sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Instead of making their tablets better so that they can sell better, they make them worse so they sell even worse than before.
That lets (as a result) old tablets to still be excellent. For example my Note Tablet is the best pen-based tablet to this day (maybe ipad pro 9.7 will change that), portable, unlike the 12inch behemoths and awesome functionality coming out of the pen.
Similarly Xperia Z4 remains even after a year of its release one of the best if not *the* best tablet, period. It's the lightest 10 incher ever created by far, making it the only choice for heavy readers. After MarshMallow some of the best battery lives in the industry, excellent screen and the lack of Roms can be fixed by xposed (which pretty much has *all* the features of custom roms).
Still whilst my wife has one, I won't buy one for myself because I don't want to support Sony's ridiculous DRM-Warranty policy. If that doesn't bother you, I don't think you can go wrong with this tablet, I'm hard pressed to find anything better (maybe ipad pro if you don't mind jailbreaking).

Excellent point.
So the S10 quad (excluding the fold) has been launched, pre orders are being placed daily, has Samsung got the 10th Anniversary of the Galaxy right?
Ok ok we haven't got our hands on the device yet, this is all early assessment, however going by what you have seen, is it enough against what's been announced at MWC, and the upcoming?
The likes of the Mi 9 Pro is very compelling, and will be priced well, Mi Mix 3 5G, Sonys new range and LG G8, the OnePlus 7, Vivo,.
LG well they are hanging around but they are not a big influence, they are trying new things, but not nailing it. The new devices announced are more of the same, no flair, just stale, yet they are specced well.
The Mi 9 Pro, Mi Mix 3 5G, Vivo, OnePlus I see these as more of a threat and competition to Samsung.
However despite the likes of Vivo, Xiaomi offering up truly full screen displays. I funnily believe some are really curious about the punch hole despite it cutting out (pun intended) the display.
For me this year I found the S10 quad to be refreshing, ok admittedly yes they could have placed a 48mgp sensor , perhaps went with a pop up camera also. That said it was intentional the cutout is a way to make it fresh stand out, it's new tech, as is the ultrasonic sensor.
For me I think what Samsung did was/is clever and very much in keeping with trend, They sell premium flagships and this is no exemption, keeping that and enhancing it more but to a point where it's not the same as others, ok Huawei have it, but that's LCD and not AMOLED, they can now also sell this displays to others, clever.
I think all that was announced and the line up was for me just right, mind you I never expect everything, although Samsung gives us pretty much that.
What do you all think Vs what's been announced, is it enough? Or will OnePlus steal the thunder?
I think we'll know fairly early how it's going to shake out. You left out one maker for good reason and it's a shame. Motorola used to be a player and my goto phone for years. Now they're just a shell of what they once were and offer no serious competition. It's still one of the best for developers but that's about it.
I'm really curious what the other companies are going to come up with this year. Funny thing is I wasn't even planning on pre-ordering or purchasing a S10+, I was looking at phones last month and was going to get the OP6t. Then I decided I would wait for the OP7 since the first versions of the year usually are the most drastic changewise. I then went onto Samsungs website and seen they offered trade-in credit for the S10 lineup. Well I put in my LG G6 and was surprised they were offering me $300 for it.. I could wait for the OP7 that will most likely skip on wireless charging, headphone jack, and have the same optical fingerprint reader as the OP6t for around $650-750 which is what my budget is or I could get the S10+ with the buds for $742 out the door and have it sooner as well. I'm definitely not disappointed in my decision as I think the S10+ is definitely a huge upgrade from phones the past year and I think it has set the bar pretty high.. If it wasn't for their trade-in program I wouldn't have ordered one.
If the S10 is this it’s going to be scary what the note 10 will be...
Galaxy S10's for the win! ???
In the case of the S10e, AFAIK there is no other manufacturer offering a phone in such a compact form factor with anywhere near the quality of SOC, screen, RAM, storage, etc. There are many competitors for the S10 and the Plus, but the S10e seems to be a unique product.
It's been out for a week now and I don't see any discussions going on. Is it really as bad as all the reviews are making it out to be? Are we talking Blackberry Storm here or what?
I'm using it. It's not bad at all. The hinge is actually pretty solid. The only downside is since it's on Verizon, you cannot unlock the bootloader.
128 views and only 1 response in two days. The silence is deafening.
There are none for sale on Swappa and less than a dozen on eBay. This does not bode well for this phone. I'd love to have one, just for the nostalgia, but I think I'll wait until they're dirt cheap.
I'm not taking shots at any of you who have one. I hope you like it and it performs to your satisfaction, but let's face it, with a stratospheric price and subpar specs, Motorola screwed the pooch on this one.
Just so you know, I had a Blackberry Storm. Even waited in line for it. The two best days were the day I got it, and the day I got rid of it.
The silence only shows that the typical XDA member didn't buy it. The reviews seem to be done by people whose use of a cellphone is atypical from the target audience of the phone. Until the international version which is unlocked becomes available there probably won't be many comments here
I agree with Kingstu. This device is probably designed more towards fashion than spec. I have to say using it is very pleasant. The material used feels very nice and it's not sluggish. However, I do hope i can get root and magisk which is probably never going to happen on this Verizon crap.
I just got mine of eBay for a decent deal. Based in the UK so no bloteware installed.
I really like it so far. I've used the galaxy fold so was interested in coming back to a small phone while in my pocket.
It's a shame its got so much negatively on YouTube but the price is too high and I hope software updates will improve the camera and make the front screen more productive.
I hope it does sell well for future versions
Price is now £399 on the Moto store.
Had it for a week and loving it... Did pick it up for $799 Australian
Just got mine, on Argentina and was really difficult to get. The external display is great but I would love this phone to be a little bit wider.
