I've tried to flash my rom to CM7 but something went wrong with the procedure because I am stuck on the android boot screen (Android logo lightning, it gets stuck for a while and then the letters continue flashing, cycling).
I followed the normal procedure: root, installed custom recovery, I made a backup with nandroid (normal one, which I copied to my computer), wiped data+cache (both caches) and I tried to flash from SD. Update went as normal but I got stuck in this boot screen.
After trying 2 or 3 times this same procedure and being unable to move on, I tried to recover my backup using nandroid: it said it was unable to recover and to do it from adb; adb says that it's unable to mount my sdcard.
From what I've read, I would need to repartition my card.. I chose that option in the recovery; still unable to recover my backup.
I figured that it would not be too bad if I lost my data, so after giving up on CM7 I gave up on recovering my data as well.. the problem is that even after wiping data and cache I'm still stuck in this same boot screen.
Any idea?
I can access recovery and adb so this has to have a solution..
I managed to boot after formatting /system.
Hey all, just a quick question. I'm unlocked ran a few roms (Alien v2, Aurora ect), now when I try to flash something else it won't flash, it just goes through the steps and acts like it installs but boots up to the same rom just like it was when I powered it down and booted to CWR. I've done factory resets and wiped everything, but when I try to manually format /data it has an error. I'm not sure if this is because I used Faux's kernel and it's converted to ex4 or something? Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

Which recovery are you using?
Solution that worked for me
I ran into the same problem after trying to do a restore with Rom Manager's CWM. As it turns out, I guess CWM has a bug that will corrupt your data partition whenever you attempt to restore the data partition.
If you have an unlocked bootloader, this is easy to fix. Wipe your data partition and start over with fastboot with the instructions below. If you do not have an unlocked bootloader, unlock it with these instructions. This will override the formatting tool which CWM uses and fix the problem.
WARNING: THIS PROCESS WILL ERASE ALL DATA ON THE PHONE'S INTERNAL MEMORY.
Connect your phone in Fastboot mode and run fastboot with the following options:
fastboot -w
then run
fastboot reboot
and the device will restart, completely factory reset and ready to go as long as you have a functioning ROM installed. To avoid this issue in the future, avoid doing normal restores with CWM. Instead do an advanced restore and restore only the boot and system partitions. Not the data partition.
Hi, I installed CWM custom recovery, and took several backups. I wanted to check that the backups worked so I tried to restore them. This just made my phone not boot (it sticks at the second screen which says "Samsung GT-i5500". (I can recover from this by re-flashing the stock ROM, but this still leaves me with some useless backups.)
Is there some way I can try to debug to see where it is going wrong? I have tried to use ADB logcat (from the android SDK) but it doesnt report anything ("still waiting for device").
I dont get any errors reported during the backup or the restore.
What I used...
Odin 4.28
Custom recovery: ClockworkMod-Galaxy5-v0.5.tar (When it runs it reports that it is version v4.0.1.5)
Closed down Keis.
Leave Odin controls at defaults and just add the OPS file and the above file for 'one package'
When doing restore I have run, from the recovery menu: clear cache, data reset, clear dalvik cache.
and then select the restore option
I have a samsung galaxy 5500
when restoring stock only restore data then wipe dalvik and cache.
flash stock rom then advanced restore data then wipe dalvik cache and cache.

Thanks ashley117, but I didnt understand this. It was a bit too brief for me to follow (I'm just new to android).
"when restoring stock only restore data"
Not sure how to do this - it only comes as a single package.
Or did you mean when restoring my backup?
I was wondering how much this would restore. Will it do everything that would have happened if restore was working - will it preserve unlocked phone and rooted phone etc?
All bit of help, i flashed from the 6.01 beta back to 5.1.1 al stock as I want to use my Gear VR, i flashed back via ODIn all find but stuck in a bootloop, i know the usual process to sort this (either wipe the partition or master reset), the wipe partition failed, but prior to doing a master wipe how can i recover my data.
I thought in bootloader it had an option to connect to a usb, that way i figure i can copy all data off.
Any help is appreciated, just being cautious as I don't want to lose 2,000 odd photos.
bump
Does the TWRP work? I guess it works, and you can try wipe data/cache with that.
Yes can can to bootloader tried wiping the partition cache without success want to avoid a data wipe to preserve the data (photos)
Before I flashed twrp,l tried doinga hard reset through stock recovery. I wiped data and cache but after rebooting my personal data was left untouched. I flashed twrp and got rooted. I tried to flash custom ROM. After deleting cache, dalvik, system, I tried to wipe data it says fail. I tried to go ahead to install the custom ROM,it failed too. Please help.
