Android L with G3 features like dual-window, camera and whatnot will, if successful, be one of the best roms ever for this phone. Great idea, good luck!

I really really wish I knew how to help. The only thing I could possible do is test on my vs980 if it helps any bit lol. So happy someone stepped up to the plate finally. Im sure some people want just a stock L experience while some may want the extras, I hope you take that into consideration. Thanks and I'm very excited to finally see L! Keep us updated!
I'm interested, I can test and help with a little modding
AOSP with G3's features? Impossible IMHO, but i wish good luck. You should contact @fabioio about the help

The lg camera app has been ported for cm, just doesn't work with art which L only uses. It would be nice to finally see an art compatible package, unless the g3 camera app would be better.
Nice idea, but let's not be overambitious here, we haven't even got a conglomeration ROM of G2 features and AOSP features quite yet, and @fabioio has managed to fry his screen porting L. I think it's important that people do this sort of thing with precaution as it is easy to mess up a nice piece of kit. That is not to say that you cannot go for it, something like this would be brilliant for the G2 but let's not run before we can walk.
Android L with split view, knock code, quick remote etc? Holy moly, can't wait! But maybe do aroma with choose what to install, because If I could, I wouldn't have G3 UI, just stock Android L one ;D
Great to hear someone is making good stuff for our G2's

Has anyone even offered to help yet? No disrespect, but you joined XDA yesterday, and you plan on making a ROM with 1 or 2 other people's help(if were lucky). If no one steps up I wouldn't be surprised because devs are just going to wait until google releases L aosp source this fall. Once they do a few L Roms will pop up, until then this thread is our only hope at a partially working rom
I Joined in The XDA Today, but i have a good Android Development ROMs Experience.

Oh that's good We might actually see L before aosp release!! Can you keep us updated on the progress?
OMG! I can't wait for this. Take your time guys. I wish i could help, but i don't have the necessary knowledge.
If there is anything I can do, please let me know. I don't have a huge amount of experience in developing for android, but I play guinea pig very well, as my G2 is my backup devce. I also do have previous Java experience (just not Android specifically), so I can probably catch on to Android development fairly quickly. I also have a "beast" of a machine, so (assuming compiling takes time and processing power) I can compile quite quickly (also assuming any compilation is required for a port like this).
please YES!
I love it! Would definitely run the ROM and alpha/beta test it and give feedback!

Howdy.
I'm back to Android development (as mentioned on Twitter).
Let this thread be here, while I work on something that is worth showing you.
Do I care for the fact that Samsung wants to release 4.1 by themselves? Nope.
I'm sick of running stock 2.3 firmware. It's virtually unusable.
Now enlighten me where I can get original digitizer for Ace 2. Let's say I have a defected unit.
Glass cracked just from putting it on the table (gently)... And then 5 days later again, after doing the same thing.

While Android is opensource, not everything needs to be opensource. If a company doesn't want to publisch the board-support-package, they don't have to. At that point, you have to write this bsp yourself.... Which can only be done by reseverse engineering. A company like ST Ericsson develops a chipset. A team of more then 10 people is then involved to port Android to this chipset. They look for clients and to every client they dedicate a special team that helps the client (Samsung in this case, but also Sony) to adopt this port to their needs and their platform. The client then ports their layer (Touchwiz for Samsung) to the new platfrom. So you're looking at maybee 30 people involved to get Android up, running and bug-free on a one specific phone..... People who get payed to do this at work. People who will get paid extra time if needed. People who do this as a day job.
Now, let's get back to XDA. We're looking here at one to two active developers who do the porting in their spare time. They are not getting paid for it. They just do it for the trill, so let's stop asking them for timelines or updates. Let's keep it a fun thing for them to do. If not.... Wel... if it's not fun anymore for them to share their work.... they will simple stop sharing and they have all the rights in the world to stop sharing!
bangz0r, keep up the good work

I'd rather use Windows as my desktop OS at home rather than garbage such as Ubuntu. By far, Ubuntu is the worst Linux distribution after openSUSE and Mandriva.
Well, I have a dedicated server set-up remotely that's running Debian 6.
Like I said, I'd build on my Mac but MacPorts isn't cooperating.
http://f.o323.com/23U8 (huge image)
Did try to build with standard setup on Mac, didn't work well. Spit out dozens of issues.
That's sort of bad because building is really fast on i7. :/
EDIT:
If it's really worth any trouble and this thing really fires up as intended, then I will set a git repo up.
...If it's not, I'll dispose of this phone and get Xperia S.
Good luck mate, I hope it works.. Would be a great step for our phone

Regarding broken digitalizer:
http://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale/wholesale-for-samsung-galaxy-ace-2-i8160-digitizer.html
This site is chinese, but they are trustworthy. They never charge you with shipping cost and they always know how to "fix" the problem with taxes, fees 'n stuff.
You can always buy digitalizer from here:
http://allegro.pl/dotyk-szybka-digitizer-sam-i8160-galaxy-ace-2-wym-i2748472924.html
If you will change it youself, can you make some photos from opened I8160. I would like to see what kind of Proximity sensor they've put in Ace2. I think there is light sensor inside, but i just want to be 100% sure. Also it will be helpfull for DYI purposes.

Never used slim before, does this have tablet ui?
I don't think any 4.2.1 ROMs will contain tablet mode. Something was done in the most recent update that prohibits straight forward tablet mode to be implemented. I know that Paranoid Android has accomplished a facsimile, but that's a bit of an interesting situation.
That being said, I've really enjoyed the alpha 1 release and am looking forward to the next update.
I've been running this alpha build for the last 4-5 days and it is very stable. Definitely not what I consider an alpha build but I'm assuming this is because the rom is currently close to stock and all the features will come later. Loving the dpi setting that maximizes the screen real estate. Thanks krarvind!

Support
We spend an astonishing amount of time developing this software. We can't spend much time on XDA as a result, so if you need support, please try the following:
1) Search. Search, search, search. Yes, you. I don't care how unique or important your question is, it's very likely someone has adressed it already. Especially if you're even close to new at this.
2) Read our FAQ, which can be found on our goo.im page linked above. It's new, but expanding fast. Just like us!
3) Ask a question in your device forum. Someone will no doubt try to help you. Warning: this help may come in the form of telling you it's a dumb question that has been asked before. See step 1 - such are the perils of asking questions when you haven't done the research yourself. Android is about helping yourself.
4) Ask a question on our IRC channel. Connect to #teamcarbon on irc.freenode.net or click here. You'll find several other Carbon fans and usually one or more devs as well. Please be polite.

Im not going to spruce this OP up for now as we are still ironing out some crucial bugs (particularly call audio) THAT SAID, the rom runs FANTASTIC with the exception of this downfall (well the governor switching needs some fixing and gps too...) But beyond that its running great. There will be new nightly builds every day so keep checking back at http://goo.im/devs/carbon/m7/testing for the latest updates...Flash latest gaaps with this package. And feel free to let me know of any bugs and/or if you guys would like to try and help tackle this in call audio issue. Thank you very much and let this be the first of a lot of fun to come

Carbon is a ROM and what does CM10.1 on the GS4 have anything to do with this?

Wich was the feature of cloudy g2 2.2 that you liked the most? It smoothness? battery life?
What made me stick with it was it smoothness and ram consumption. Surprisingly I also had my personal record in the battery area.
Thats why im so hyped with this new cloudy realese

Has anyone noticed that g3 ported lollipop roms appear much flatter than the normal g2 stock lollipop roms we get? The flatness creates a beautiful effect anyway God bless cloudy and all g2 developers as well as contributors for their dedication. Its not easy.
Urgh. Mods should really just close the development thread and re-open it when @Cloudyfa posts a new release. The senseless banter there is plain disrespectful.

a great idea with this thread so let me start :
1. I've bought this phone in december ( i lie ,it was a gift ,in december ) since then i felt in love with it ( i was on samsung for 2-3 years ),is fast ,is smooth ,what else i can ask from a smartphone ,even camera is great .
2.after we got lollipop update ,the new ui is amazing ,new features etc ( even listening to the music is a pleasure ,you get your lockscreen wallpaper changed at every song from different album ) . Now i'm waiting to get 5.1 lollipop ,and i hope we will get it .
3. I can assure you that Android M is not going to be the last ,google has secret plans .
4. My next phone i guess is going to be Lg G4 next year or at the end of this year . I'm going to stick with LG zone for a while . I'm not disappointed at all .
Btw i'm on stock rom ,because everyone will come to stock after using roms for a while . But i kinda want to try cloudyfa rom ,not decided when but ...soon .

Ain't that the truth:good:
Although he may or may not see this, I hope @Cloudyfa has an amazing birthday. Within the year or so me and others have had a G2 (Including one other in the house), I've always been satisfied with your work and so have they. You've truly made this phone into what it should be. The Roms that you give us are astonishing and give this phone an overall boost. Your works have been my daily driver for quite a while and again others in my house and they aren't really as familiar with android as I am but they can say that they enjoy your work and appreciate the what you have made their phone into. It's relieving to know that we have such amazing developer there by our side to support our G2. You make it live up to its fullest potential. Like many have said, you made stock into what it should have been. I personally enjoy skinned android because I find stock android boring (my personal preference), and you make the G2 handle stock as if it were stock android, which is amazing. Anyways, I really appreciate your work and you really do deserve an award as cheap as it sounds, you've evolved this device. I can't thank you enough. I hope you have a good day!
Happy Birthday from the LG G2 community!

On the 3rd paragraph it says that the base is Lollipop, don't you mean Marshmallow? Maybe it's incorrect, tell me if I'm wrong.

Any idea if Android Pay still works in this? I LOVED XenonHD on my previous Nexus devices but I've grown to use Android Pay a lot.

Great to see you here! cool
Just as a heads up, Android Pay does not work in this but for what it's worth, it doesn't work in 3 other ROMs I tried. From my understanding very very few people have gotten Android Pay to work outside 100% stock software. Oh well. The app does install and open, I can add loyalty cards to it but I cannot add/use payment cards. Oh well, the loyalty card stuff is what I wanted to use it for primarily anyway; I hated carrying around so many stupid loyalty card things on my keychain.
