[Q] i can have a custom ROM on my SCH-I545? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum, the other day I bought me a sch-I545.
As I don't like the stock rom that has many applications that do not concern decided to install a custom rom.
1. i use saferoot and it worked perfect (use the following guidelines: http://www.droidviews.com/root-verizon-galaxy-s4-sch-i545-on-android-4-3-vruemk2/)
2. i'm a fan of CarbonROM look and saw that they had a version "JFLTE"
3. i install SuperSU and disabled Knox
4. i try to install a custom recovery (TWRP) but when you restart the device stay in download mode and even though you remove the battery or tried restarting always came back to download mode
5. use the following guide to exit download mode: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578209
Someone can help me? I really don't like the stock ROM and the I545 is really very good phone.
Note: excuse my english, i speak spanish

You will not be able to flash a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM as you are not on a MDK bootloader.
With SafeStrap, you will only be able to run TW based custom roms (at least for now).
I hope this helps. Go back thru the forum and check out the sticky threads as they have a ton of info.

You can only install ROMS that are compatible with SafeStrap. I suggest HyperDrive

thank you very much zeb carter and blue.
there any list of supported roms with safestrap?
and using safestrap equals the remainder of the other recovery??
and the last question, the method "saferoot.bat/.sh" is recommended for safetrap?

There is a list of compatible roms in a thread in the general section.

Once you get safestrap I highly recommend Foxhound or Duxter. Venomous is good too if you don't mind a lot of red. You can change out the wallpapers. Baja is another good one.

What about those of us WITHOUT SafeStrap?

That's not your build, your build is nc5. You'll see a lot of guides in the general section on what you can do with nc5

i was checking HyperDrive ROM and is only compatible with MDK Custom Recovery.
but i have "MDF v1.0 Release 2" with Safestrap (root)
i can install Hyperdrive RLS17? :crying:

That's already answered in this thread. From your screenshot:
You have Baseband version NC5, which may mean that you have the NC5 bootloader.
You have Security Software MDF 1.0 release 2. That has nothing at all to do with the bootloader.

I suggest doin a bit of research next time. Its been posted atleast 100 times you cant install a custom recovery on me7. Your phone will.still boot if you shut it off then use the buttom combo for download mode and then deny it. I also suggest downloading the stock me7 image and flashing it so you get back your stock recovery. Check out the safestrap thread in the general and dev sections, hashcode is working on a method to get custom TW roms on me7.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.
Oh yeah if you want some customization google and download "xposed framework" and the wanam module from the play store. I went from a custom rom to an me7 based stock rom in conjunction with xposed and wanam and its pretty damn good IMO. Youll atleast be able to give it a custom rom feel.

I might be a little confused here. For instance hyperdrive rom shows it supports me7, but we cannot get custom recovery to install it? is that correct?

It has an me7 base for the rom. The me7 firmware on your phone wont let you flash a recovery. The Rom base and the firmware on your phone are two different things.

[Q]Do I need safestrap to flash hyperdrive?

Hello. I am currently running CM10.2 on my Verizon gs4. I want to flash hyperdrive instead.

This link tells me that I need to use safestrap but.. I'd rather not if I don't need to. Will I be able to do so? Also, where can I find the latest hyperdrive ROM for my phone?

If you're running CM then you have MDK. You don't need Safestrap. You should research first.

Yes, to add further explanation:
1) Since you can flash a ROM (CM) without Safestrap, it means that your bootloader is version MDK. KEEP IT THAT WAY. Anything later is locked and will not let you flash a ROM *without* Safestrap, much less a non-Touchwiz ROM like CM.
2) While there IS a Safestrap version of Hyperdrive, you do not need Safestrap to flash Hyperdrive. Use the other version of Hyperdrive, the one marked "---FOR MDK Base( TWRP/CWM Installation)" in post #2.
3) You generally only need Safestrap if you have a locked bootloader (later than MDK).

[Q] Want to upgrade from CM10.1 to CM11 on MDK

So, I've been hunting around for a bit and can't seem to find a definite answer.
I've got an MDK phone on CWM recovery, 5.x.x.x version (I know it's not the most current and that's part of my question). I'm a complete noob with this stuff and did a step by step help guide to get this originally rooted and on CM10.1 and cannot remember anything about it.
Should I update to the most current recovery through CWM manager, download loki doki zip and CM11, go to recovery, flash CM11, Flash Loki Doki, then GApps and recover apps through Titanium backup?
Thanks for any help in advance, this noob appreciates it greatly.

I've tried multiple different ways of wording the question in my searches and have yet to have a direct answer to this.
I don't know if I even need to do anything other than download CM11 and flash it as is. Since I've got a rooted MDK phone with a custom recovery on there, it sometimes seems like I can, then I see people talk about Loki. I also see people saying that recovery needs to be most current.
Basically just want a direct answer to my questions above from a knowledge person. If I need to provide any additional information, I'd be happy to.
It's always a good idea to keep your recovery up to date, although I'm not sure if it's necessary. You've been on cm10 so I'd recommend updating to a newer CWM.
Why are you flashing loki doki? I've only had to do that when the kernels weren't already lokified and I believe CM's is already done for you. Wipe, flash cm, flash gapps, profit!

[Q] ROM recovery / SS install - verizon I545vrufng6

Hello all,
I've rooted several phones in the past, but have been having more trouble with my verizon galaxy s4 than I have with the rest. Not so much with the processes themselves, those were easy, but with feeling comfortable with the guides I am using since there are so many different builds and versions.
I had stock NG6, I felt comfortable and succeeded in rooting using the kernel flash and downgrade method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/general/how-to-root-i545vrufng6-t2905848).
Now I'm looking to get a ROM backup of my current config (reflashed to NG6) or a stock ROM i can flash. I downloaded the ROM Manager CWM offers in the playstore, but when I ran it after install it requires a custom recovery, as per usual. I say "OK" and I end up with the following:
SAMSUNG
Samsung Galaxy S4 (Verizon)
jfltevzw
UNSUPPORTED DEVICE
Device not Listed Above
Click here if your device is not shown in the list above.
I was a little worried about the jfltevzw under the first option, since I was unable to find anything in the various information my phone tells me (build, kernel, etc) that matches that string.
Normally I never post unless I truly can't find anything... but I've spent about 2 hours looking through stickies and instructions here and on other sites for creating a recovery and installing SS/CyanogenMod, and I haven't had any luck. I've rooted quite a few devices and I use this forum as my go-to, so I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction?
dev info:
Carrier: verizon
model: I545
droid ver: 4.4.2
kernel: 3.4.0
baseband: I545VRUFNG6
status: rooted (from NG6 via flash to NC5 -> root w/ towelroot -> flash NG6)
any help is appreciated!
Thanks!
As of right now you can't install AOSP roms
Safestrap is the Only recovery you can use. No CWM, TWRP Or cyanogen or any other AOSP Roms. Look for the threads about safestrap with your ng6 . And Roms that work with safestrap. Hyper drive is a good one, along with several others.
Oh. And extremely limited for kernels.

OK. Will do, thanks!
Do you think it might be good to flash NC5 and stay there even though my phone was stock NG6? Not like I'm really concerned with the new stock features.
edit: the only thing bothering me so far rooting with the method i used is I haven't had any random reboots... some people were reporting upwards of 30/day and I haven't had a problem in ~4 hours. Seems inconsistent ><
I've been trying to install SS via flashing the NC5 first then installing, but I'm having a lot of crash/reboots attempting to get anything going on my phone.
there a version of SS that can be installed on NG6?
No different kernel, it won't install

You will need to Odin back to NC5 using the full wipe .tar then use the rooting method at the bottom of this OP in order for the safestrap app to work correctly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/general/how-to-root-i545vrufng6-t2905848

Noob- Flashing Rom for 1st time (i545 NK1)

Hello everyone,
I'm looking to flash my Verizon S4 i545 for the first time. I have the NK1 Build on it. So far, I've rooted it with towel root and have safestrap 3.75 installed.
From doing my research it seems that having the NK1 build prevents me from flashing some roms such as CM11. All I really want from my s4 (had it since launch) is to have the best performance and battery life possible. I'm not looking to do anything fancy beyond that. From some online reading, it seems Hyperdrive might be the best rom for my needs.
How can I go about installing the Hyperdrive rom? (which version should I look out for considering I have NK1)
What precautions should I take before attempting to install?
What other custom roms can I install onto my S4 NK1 build?
Thank you in advance!
I hace the same thing, and muy SE is enforcing. I dont know if that is important.

Honestly, you should downgrade back to nc5 from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735172 You won't be able to install any CM or AOSP rom since you're not on mdk. Hyperdrive is a good rom. Echoerom and Eclipse are solid as well. They're also based on nc5 and you'll likely not have too many problems if you downgrade back.
Hi i try ti downgrade to nc5 and did not Work the phone freeze. I try hyperrom i like it but WiFi never Work and have to do a restore and lost root and safestrap, i think i cant go back to nc5

If you use the full wipe nc5, it shouldn't be buggy. It's like having a clean slate. For myself, I've always had better success from nc5 than nk1.

thanks. So would it be an accurate statement that at this point in time, unless someone just wants a stock rooted nk1, there's really no point in rooting an nk1 because you just need to downgrade to nc5 anyway, and then re-root again, in order to flash any custom roms; And you do not need root to downgrade via Odin, correct?

For me it's just preference. Most roms are nc5 based. There are modules and fixes out for those on nk1, but for me, I have always had issues with it. Downgrading to nc5 eliminated the problems. You still need to flash modules and wifi fixes, but I find it to be far more stable. No, you don't need to be rooted to use Odin. If you do plan on downgrading, I would suggest the full wipe. Some have experienced issues with the non wipe. Hope all this helps.

Yeah i noticed that lol, at least i've been learning a lot of things about how to flash, odin, the bootloaer, the roms, firmware etc. I managed to install hyperrom's last version and it's pretty decent. Fcuk Verizon btw
You can use SuperNexus ROM. It works with safestrap. You can also use Kitpop ROM.
