I was using 4EXT to flash CM 10 onto my phone. Rooted, backup up everything with Titanium. Bootloader is unlocked, S-on because I don't have a Unbuntu machine.
I made a backup of the stock rom but also have a downloaded copy just in case. Reflash seemed to go fine however on reboot the Cyanogenmod logo just sits there and spins. After 15 minutes, I removed the battery and tried to reboot again with the same results.
I don't know what I did wrong but it looks like I can't even restore the original rom now from within 4ext. Says there are no backups. When I try to install from sdcard, 4ext only sees the /4ext directory and no zip files inside it.
I do have ADB/Fastboot and can connect to the phone. I pushed the original rom into the /4ext directory but 4ext still does not see a zip file from recovery.
I'm stumped as to how to even get the original rom back into the phone now.

This is a common problem most people on here have with this device because HTC is much more complex than other devices by requiring S-OFF and SuperCID and Unlocked bootloader etc.
Go to this thread, it will help you recover your device to GB (assuming that you don't have T-mobile ICS because you're S-ON)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2279289
I too had this exact same problem within the first month of owning my Amaze. Keep a strong spirit, once you follow the International Amaze to T-Mobile ICS guide you'll be able to flash any rom.
After playing around with stuff and rebooting the phone again, CM10 finally loaded up.

Hello.
My phone is starting to act funny, it has the quite common problem where the touch function on the bottom half of the screen stops working properly.
Since I'm going to send it in, I'd like to return everything to as close to the shipping state as possible. I don't care if I still have Clockworkmod left on it or if I make it unrootable, since I'm going to buy a new phone and sell this one when the contract runs out in a few months anyway.
I've tried searching for the info I need but there are still some things I'm unclear about.
The phone is currently running VillainMod and has ClockWorkMod installed as a bootloader. I was running CM on it until a few days ago, but I tried installing a Sense-based ROM to see if I could get the RUU .exe method to work, but it fails after the phone has rebooted and just says that it cannot update the phone. Any ideas what's causing this? (I used the file RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_3.32.405.1_R_Radio_63.18.55.06P_6.35.15.11_release_signed.exe)
So since the "official" method failed I found the rom.zip that is unpacked by the RUU program and copied it.
Here is where I'm not sure how to proceed. Should I sign the zip-file (using testsign.jar) and then do "apply update.zip" from ClockWorkMod OR should I extract the boot.img, data.img, recovery.img, system.img and radio.img files from the zip, generate a md5 file (how?) and restore it using the backup feature in Clockwork?
Or is maybe both of these ideas totally of the mark?
Any help is appreciated. Do tell if there is some more info you need.
I personally don't think you should go with that plan. I'm not a big scientist when it comes to phone development since I'm still learning. But I think you should go backwards and check what went wrong.
Edit:
I also think that the new rom might have different requirements from the previous one. Usually that causes a problem if you try to flash a rom without fitting the requirements.
No you need to rename the Rom.zip to heroimg.zip then shut down phone and reboot into hboot mode by using power and vol down
So I started by rooting with Shabby's AIO root. Worked fine.
Today I unlocked, following QBKing's instructional video. No errors.
Then I flashed TWRP using fastboot. No errors.
I'm able to boot, everything seems to work (except 4g of course), but when I boot into recovery, all I get is an android with a yellow triangle. What gives? Can anyone help?
try reflashing the recovery happened to me once when i flashed cwm.
it keeps happening to me no matter how many times i try to flash either one. I'm definitely rooted and unlocked but recovery just wont stick at all, all i ever get is the yellow triangle. Ive given up on it....
I have in my notes to delete "install-recovery.sh" in system/etc and reflash. Couldn't hurt.

I think that the above post is correct, and also remember reading somewhere about it.
And I can do that from Root Explorer? I must admit I'm a little nervous - I'd better make a backup. You guys have done it too?

I would always do a backup in CWM or bootstrap before trying anything. I've never done this, but you could always try.
I don't currently have the ability to boot into CWM. I suppose I'll try to get into Bootstrap and make a nandroid, if that's possible - I haven't done any of this stuff since around this time last year on my Evo.
Use root explorer. another reason could be your not unlocked. Does your screen say unlocked when you boot?
Mine does say I'm unlocked, I've also deleted that .sh file after backing it up and still nothing. I don't want to go through the whole process of relocking my mopho to get it to work,, but I know that may help. I've done everything I could and read through every thread on it and still no go. I've definitely learned a lot though, lol. I've also figured out how to switch the internal memory sdcard with sdcard-ext to have your actual sdcard be internal. Good stuff, I love xda.
The current procedure seems to be:
moto-fastboot delete recovery
flash recovery
reboot
That gives it time to re-flash stock recovery during the reboot. What if you flashed the new recovery, yanked battery, went to recovery, then flashed CM7 (which apparently doesn't try to replace the stock recovery)?
I've got Bootstrap working. I'll be doing a Nandroid, then trying to rename install-recovery.sh later today. If that doesn't work - all I can do is go back to total stock, unroot, and restart the process. Life goes on.
Mine definitely says "Unlocked" at the top of the screen on boot - and I'm rooted (I can use Titanium Backup and Wifi Tether)
If it's an issue with the order of rooting and unlocking (I saw no error messages at any stage), can we get a warning placed in the pudding / MoPho FAQ thread please, spare someone else the trouble we're going through?
Seeing as I'm already unlocked and rooted via Penguin's AIO root- and backed up through Bootstrap, is there any harm in flashing the system.img used in QBKing77's video? Would that solve my problem and let a normal recovery stick?
Any idea if this would bork my phone? I don't have a backup - but I -do- want to be able to use CM and Miui (hate MotoBlur). If I'm already AIO rooted and QBking Unlocked, is there any harm to flashing system.img, then flashing recovery?
I am having the same issue on my photon. when i boot in to clockworks i see the android recovery, and when i try to select it the triangle pops up with the
android guy then i have to pull battery to restart phone still works thoe. Tom
Ebert
This worked on my Xoom. Suspect same/similar will work on Photon. Issue is that recent OTA's add files that overwrite custom recovery with stock recovery if you let the device boot (don't let it boot - or if you do, delete those files, then reflash).
unlock
flash recovery
boot into recovery
root
then while still in CWM, no reboot, but instead:
adb remount
adb shell rm /system/recovery-from-boot.p
adb shell rm /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
reboot with CWM
Only had to flash CWM once.

Flash over Bootstrap?
With having bootsrap installed, could I use one of romracers CWM installers and flash over bootstrap? Has anyone tried this?
this is what i used. work great

moonzbabysh, would you direct me to the thread that shows how to switch the internal and external memory around. I've got a 16gb card but can't put apps on it. Thanks.
Well I was running the leaked sense ics build and it was causing my phone to overheat so I decided I would switch back to cm7 for a while, when I when I tried to reboot to recovery it just booted showed a black screen then rebooted back to the rom. So I tried to reinstall the recovery from both rom manger and the bootloader nothing worked. I then noticed that it was hard to get my sd card out and that it was slow to load upon boot, odd but it was still readable by the system and I could get to my files on it. I treid a few other sd cards with the same results. It was then I decided it would be a smart idea to try and flash a ruu to try to just return to stock (but leave the bootloader unlocked). I ended up flashing PG05IMG_no_hboot_2.11.605.19.zip from [HOW TO]return to stock (gingerbread) from revolutionary or normal hboot(11/2/11) - xda-developers Which then lead to my phone not booting to rom or recovery all I can get to is the (still unlocked at least) bootloader.
Any ideas on where to proceed? I attempted to run a ruu exe so I can restore it from a computer in case the problem with sd is why it is failing to flash properly but the one I tried 2.11.605.0_Radio_0.01.78.0802w_3_NV_8K_1.41_9K_1.6 4_release_210841.exe required the phone to be booted to the rom to confirm the current build before flashing a new one. Anyone know of a way around that maybe? Or anything?

It may not work but I've had some luck with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703455 in rooting and unrooting, it may be able to see it and do its thing. I know you said you tried different cards but it might be worth looking into reformatting your card in Windows (FAT32) and trying it with a good radio by itself to get it to boot. Then pull or rename the radio zip off the card and then reinstall the ROM or RUU.
Ok so here's the deal...
I was running ViperRez ROM and decided it was time for a change and found a few ROMs I wanted to check out. Tried EclipticRez, kept force closing and rebooting before or just after I could finish the phone set up. Tried Nils Business, no luck. So finally tried to load MIUI for ICS and ran into trouble.
Each time before loading these ROMs I used Clean Wipe to wipe before loading the ROM. I am S-on. Unlocked. HBOOT- 2.11
So here's where my trouble is... Normally when a ROM fails to work, I'd simply reboot into recovery, wipe, and load a different rom via zip from SD card. The problem I'm having, besides the ROM not loading and getting stuck on the HTC flash screen is, I cant get into recovery. I can reboot into the bootloader screen, get to fastboot. When I try to select recovery the phone goes black, flashes something quickly on the lower part of the screen with CWM recovery looking logo, then reboots and sticks on the HTC white screen. Another issue, my battery will no longer charge via phone charger, so I had to go out and buy a battery charger today to even get my phone running again since all this drained the battery.
I've flashed the PH98IMG, removed it since it was causing me to constantly reflash it and reboot. Removed the boot img from the MIUI ROM and placed it in the root of my SD card, seemed to do nothing. I've also tried to use abd, although I'm not really sure how to use it, basically tried to follow a few different threads, but when I typed adb devices, the list was always blank.
Can anyone help me to either get this MIUI ROM working or at least get me back into recovery so I can re-load ViperRez that I know was working? I am no expert, so please give detailed instructions if you can. Thanks in advance.

your are s-on you need to extract the boot.img from the zip. go to fastboot and make sure it says fastboot usb
fastboot flash boot boot.img
that will flash the kernel that you need. the ph98img you only need if you are trying to make firmware changes. everything else can be run from the computer.
Also, make sure you are flashing 3.04 roms. Viperrez i think never updated to the global . If you are flashing global roms, you HAVE to do the firmware update.

I kinda understand what you are saying, but the other problem I have is.... When running adb my phone is not listed in the adb devices, although it is listed in the usb devices. Not sure what to do about that.
Are you in charge only mode on the phone?
Is usb debugging enabled?
USB debugging was selected prior to this incident and it was on charge only as well. It was not connected as a usb drive. I cannot get into the settings of the phone to find out what it is now or if its changed.
I would suggest going S-Off, it will make flashing a whole lot easier. As for getting back to a usable state, you should be able to flash a PH98IMG in bootloader. If anything, flash an RUU and go from there.
Hey guys, Im in urgent need of help here.
I'll give you an exact account of what i did.
saved apps via Ti. Back.; uploaded the new ICS radios and debloated, deodexed rom from my computer to my tbolt, renamed the radio from my computer; booted into 4ext, nandroid, wiped EVERYTHING, booted into bootloader; bootloader detected the new radio and I confirmed its update
Next thing that happened was that the HTC splash screen appeared as normal but disappeared, leaving a blank screen with dim backlight. Pulled battery and tried to reboot 10+ times to no avail. Same thing happens everytime. ADB doesn't recognize the phone but i CAN boot into bootloader. The problem is that everytime I boot into bootloader, the radio begins to update, leaving with the only option to reboot. Thus, I cant get into recovery.
I've spent the past couple hours trying to do my homework on this but its not looking too hot. I need this bad boy, so help is much appreciated.
Doug
You need to take the radio off the sd card, so you can boot to recovery and actually flash the rom.
Sounds like you haven't flashed a rom yet, so it has nothing to boot into.
With the radio image (PG05IMG.zip) on the root it will not go to Recovery.
So you will need to find a card reader to rename the radio file, since you wiped prior to flashing the radios.
The preferred process would have been to flash the radios, boot to your current rom, rename the radio file from within the current rom.
Then boot to recovery and flash the new rom.
I somewhat outlined this in the OP of the rooted rom thread where you should have gotten the download from.

Makes sense.I dont know why I read "wipe everything" before the rest of your thread and thought that meant to do so before reflashing radios.
Got a $10 reader and was able to change the radio file and boot into recovery. Flashed the rom as usual and it looks lke everythings working.
Thanks for the help man.
