Hi,
What drivers do you have?
your problem is not drivers... from my point of view, you simply not understand how to activate Preview for Developers....
did you have Developer account or want Preview for Developers for free?
in case 1. you have Developer account:
- you must install WP SDK 8 and unlock phone with "Windows Phone Developer Registration" tool (available after WP SDK installation)
- on phone you must install Preview for Developers app from Store and activate updates
- check for update
in case 2. you want for free:
- go to http://appstudio.windows.com and sign in with your Microsoft (Live) account which use on phone, allow access and register
- install certificate on phone (you get link on email or open this link in IE on phone http://appstudio.windows.com/Job/GetAet)
- on phone you must install Preview for Developers app from Store and activate updates
- check for update

I have installed the WP 8.1 SDK , Developer Tools, Registration tools etc. I have also installed the ZUne. THe problem i face is that when i open the Windows Phone Developer Registration app so in the window it tries to detect my mobile but it fails due to not support of device. So i tried on Zune. Zune also doesnt recognize my device to transfer data. bro i know each and every step the problem is support of device.
for what you need Zune in WP8??? Zune is sync tool only for WP7... in WP8 is useless and not working...
also you not need WP SDK if you not developer (paying $19 to Microsoft for developer licence)
FIRST AT ALL: please clarify what you want and what you have.
if you not understand what i asking, please simply answer to this questions:
1. you want WP 8.1 update? YES or NO
2. you have DEVELOPER account (paying $19 or student developer)? YES or NO
if answers is 1. YES and 2. NO only what you need to do is case 2. what told you in post 3... and forget/delete Zune and WP SDK...
if answers is 1. YES and 1. YES then use case 1.
Thanks

you have Windows 8? check did drivers installed OK in Control Panel - Device Manager... look also in Control Panel - Windows Update, maybe need manually to install driver
here how look right drivers installed for Lumia 920 in Device Manager:
also if nothing help, try install this (this install all drivers needed) and restart computer:

also you can check official Microsoft help (look in Things to try)

also forgot to tell: if you installed other mobile drivers (like Samsung or similar), is possible this drivers make conflicts and you must remove it before installing Nokia drivers. in most case no problems or conflicts but sometimes this is problem...
Thanks Alot

Hi,
I updated my Lumia 800 to WP7.8 using Nokia Caresuite. Now I tried to unlock it with the phone registration tool coming with WP8 SDK. I am using Windows 8. The problem is, that the phone cannot be connected. Further in Zune I can't see how much space I'm using on my phone. Is there a new Zune for WP7.8?

No, just go ahead to control panel and uninstall everything whose manufacturer is Nokia (no need to uninstall ncs, and, of course, don't touch zune), and, of course, reboot. I had the same problem and it helped me and couple of other people.
I had a similar problem on my bro's Win 8 PC (as I am an osx user). We couldn't deploy the xaps so we just uninstalled zune and downloaded it from microsoft's site again and it worked fine after that.
I managed to unlock my phone and deploy the apps through the WP7 SDK. Did it on Windows 7, though. Worked like a charm.

mind to pm me how to do it?
I had the same problems, I had to uninstall the drivers after use of the update software. For some reasons the drivers of the updating software did not seem the same as the Zune standard drivers. *using 64xWindows8
After uninstalling everything, worked fine again

All you need to do is uninstall the WinUSB drivers so the Zune drivers will be used again.
hey guys. i'm here because i too have a lumia 800 wp7.8 and it has been unlocked using the windows phone developer registration app.
the problem is, i can't deploy any application onto my phone. i've tried countless of .xap files to deploy (using Application Deployment) but the status keeps saying:
"XAP file is invalid".
My phone is registered. it connects to the zune software (which i have uninstalled and installed according to the posts above).
I tried it with Tom XAP Installer and it said "Make sure device is unlock" and "make sure it is connected to zune & pc".
I also tried it with MultiXap installer and it said "nullable object must have value".
Please help me!
Is there any way around this? greatly appreciate your help.

What kind of XAP's are you deploying? Pirated apps, your own, or copies from the Marketplace?
Do you have any error codes? Are you using WP7 or WP8 sdk, which OS?

My XAP files are downloaded from the Marketplace. I chose "Download and install manually" and that's how I got them.
No error codes. When I click on "Deploy", the App Deployment program just wrote "Status: XAP file is invalid".
I'm using the WP7.1 SDK with the SDK WP7,8 update.
My laptop is running Windows 7. My phone WP7.8.
Thanks for the quick reply
Hope I provided enough information!

No, you cannot install xaps from marketplace this way, why would you need that? All this apps can be installed via marketplace on the phone. The point of developer unlock is to install homebrew apps and those that cannot be submitted to the marketplace.

Well, After doing a fresh install of Windows 8 Pro (64bit) I soon realized that HTC does not support Win8 drivers yet officially but after hours of scouring the internet, I finally got it to work and it works perfect!
I have found that the Windows 7 drivers work on Windows 8 but the HTC Driver installer will not allow a windows 8 install for some reason. There are 2 ways to do it but this is the easiest as I have already pulled the full driver pack from a Windows 7 driver install to make it easier for everyone.
Instructions to installing HTC Drivers on Windows8 64Bit:
==========================================
1. Download the Windows7 (64 Bit) drivers here - http://d-h.st/OYI
2. Unzip to any location you want. Just remember where you put them.
3. Plug in your phone to your USB cable.
4. Open your Device Manager (Windows Key + X and select Device manager) and locate HTC under Other Devices and right click on it and select Update Driver Software
5. Select "Browse my computer for driver software"
6. Click Browse and then select the folder you unzipped with the drivers in it then click next.
7. It should now install your drivers and then in your device manager it will now show up "My HTC" under Android USB Devices.
Hope that helps anyone having troubles getting USB/HTC drivers working on Windows 8 (64bit).
Now you can use adb and fastboot commands. I use Fastboot Commander and I can report it works perfect in Win8.
EDIT: Im sure this will work for any other HTC phone as well as I am pretty sure the drivers are pretty universal for HTC phones, just so happens I have an Evo3D and do not have any other HTC phones to test this on other then my Hero. I will test that as soon as I can to see if that works also and update my findings.
Enjoy!

I dont understand. Resign what app? All this does is install the drivers in Win8 (64bit version) if you didnt have them installed already so you can use adb and fastboot commands via command prompt on your PC. If you had drivers installed and working in Win8 already there is/was no need for this.

Thank you very much for your reply. I updated the HTC Sync version 3.3.1.7 --- the sync and the connection between the phone and PC are working very well. The adb never works even followed your instruction but still can't make the adb works. I suspect my adb version is too old.
Would you be kind to share the adb?
Any adb and fastboot app should work. Worked fine for me on a really old version and also on the latest version.
Get it right from Google. http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Just click on Downloads for other platforms and then download SDK Tools only.
Install that then launch the SDK Manager and select to download the Android Platform Tools and you will get the latest adb and fastboot
I would install to your c: drive and not in program files. Just a recommendation.

Don't the 4.x series drivers from HTC natively support Win8? I don't have Win8 myself, but perhaps someone could test and report back? I posted a small collection of Windows drivers in my forum section.

The requirements for HTC Sync still don't include Windows 8 as a supported environment even though the last update was on December 28th so I'm guessing the drivers included with that won't install properly.
HTC Sync Manager supports Windows 8 but not the Evo 3D. If the 4.x drivers were extracted from that they may work with the Evo 3D but I don't run Windows 8 yet so someone else going to have to test them.

Interesting. I just extracted the drivers from Sync Manager and found a single point bump at the very end of the version string from my latest driver (4.0.1.002 is now listed in my drivers post). I'm still led to believe the 4.x series works on Win8, but we'll have to wait for others to respond.
Ramjet to the rescue once again. Thanks for that reply there.
mdmower, I will take a look at your thread later and check it out.
I run Win 7, Win 8 and Ubuntu 12.10 on my laptop. The regular HTC Sync drivers that work on Win 7 also do work on Win 8. I'm currently running an RUU and it's working.

Windows 8 compatible installer
I recently found that the .exe installer from HTC Sync Manager is compatible with all versions of Windows, from XP through 8, and both 32 and 64 bit versions. The Sync Manager itself doesn't support the Evo 3D/V but the drivers that come with it seem to work fine with our device.
The Windows 8 compatible 4.1.0.001 version of the HTC .exe driver installer can be downloaded here.

HTC Sync doesn't support Windows 8 but HTC Sync Manager does even though its functions don't work with the Evo 3D. They are two different programs but both are downloadable from htc.com.

I just came across this and going to see how this works and change up the first post if needed.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...-driver-for-windows-that-actually-works-on-8/
Its a universal ADB driver that not only works with all Android devices (that's right – no more proprietary drivers!), but also all versions of Windows – including 8.
Did you ever get it all working with those new drivers? Considering trying it for my One.

I've found a way to get ADB working on Windows 8.1. The trick is to use Intel's ADB drivers instead of Google's. We're going to need to manually extract the drivers from the installer because it doesn't recognize Windows 8.1 (ironic).
Bonus: This method of install ADB drivers doesn't require you to reboot without driver signature enforcement (because Intel signs their drivers like a good company should).
1) Download Intel's USB drivers from Intel's website (or my attachment). I don't have enough posts on XDA to be able to post the link but searching "intel usb driver for android devices" on Google has the correct webpage as the first result.
2) Download 7-zip to extract the drivers (if you don't already have it installed)
3) Right-click on the setup exe inside the zip file from Intel's webside and choose "Extract here" in the 7-zip menu. You'll probably get a warning about copying over files etc. just click yes to all.
4) Now open Device Manager and find the "USB Composite Device" that corresponds to the Android device. It may help to enter the "Devices by Connection" view (in the View menu). You'll want to keep expanding the device tree until you find the "USB Composite Device" that is the parent of your ADB device (and possibly the MTP device too). When you find that, right-click and "Update driver software". Click "Browse my computer for driver software" and click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer". Click the "Have Disk" button and browse to the directory that you extracted the drivers in step 3 then select "android_winusb.inf". You should see a single entry that says "Linux device with multiple configurations". Select that entry and click next.
5) After that installs, you should still see the exclamation mark by your ADB device (or you should see the ADB device with a non-working driver). Now you want to do the same steps as in step 4 except this time you should see 3 options when you select the inf. Click on the "Android ADB Interface" option and hit next.
6) You may need to reboot for ADB to pick up the device (or restart the ADB server)
Hopefully, this works for you guys. I did it successfully with my Ouya and Nexus 7.

I did it successfully with my Ouya and Nexus 7.

no such icon
I tried all that it it still does not work for me.
Neither intel or any other driver works for me. It Installs it, sure, but Device enumeration still fails.
Running Windows 8.1 if that has any baring on the issue.
Solved problem by connecting into USB3.0. I have motherboard integrated Renesas USB3.0, first I had to update USB3.0 drivers to work Android ADB interface
The same for me, it was only working with my USB3 slot and also with windows booted without driver signature check.

Worked for me with they USB 3.0 port!
I'm having this problem as well. When USB Debugging is turned on adb will recognize my device in Camera (PTP) mode but it will not recognize it when it is plugged in as a Media device (MTP). Unfortunately I do not have any USB 3.0 ports on my machine. This has become very frustrating because I can't retrieve files off of my phone or test my android app anymore :crying: time to use the emulator in the mean time T_T
EDIT: If I put the files I want to transfer into the DCIM folder on my phone they will show up on the computer after I reboot the phone while Camera (PTP) file transfer mode is selected.
Same problem here, since I tried 8.1 preview. Works for adb, but not for fastboot.

Same here, I installed the preview app on my Nokia 920 without installing the SDK.
True. You can install GDR3 without SDK too.
1. Register for the Windows Phone App Studio. The Windows Phone App Studio is a free tool for developing Windows Phone Apps, it doesn’t have as many features as the full software development kit, but it’s simple and easy to use and most importantly it includes the ability to developer unlock one Windows Phone so that you can install your own apps to it for testing. You’ll want to register using the same Microsoft ID that you use with your Windows Phone.
UPDATE: Steps 2 and 3 below are unnecessary if you install the security certificate that is emailed to you after you sign up for the Windows Phone App Studio program above. Find the email on your phone, download the attached security certificate and tap the install button when prompted.
Before you install your Windows Phone App Studio applications you must install this certificate on your phone (click here).
2. Download the Windows Phone 8.0 SDK. In order to make your phone “Developer Unlocked”, you need to use the “Windows Phone Developer Registration” tool. You can get this using the Express Installer for the Windows Phone 8.0 SDK, or you can download the ISO image of the full installer. When installing the SDK, if you get a certificate error that prevents the installation from completing successfully, try closing out of the installer anyway, and then look in your programs listing for a program called “Windows Phone Developer Registration”. It’s probably there already and it will probably work.
3. Developer Unlock your Windows Phone. Microsoft’s instructions for unlocking your phone are here, but essentially all you have to do is launch the “Windows Phone Developer Registration” program that was installed with the Windows Phone 8.0 SDK. Be sure that your Windows Phone 8 is connected to the PC via a USB cable. The tool will detect your phone and after you sign in with your Microsoft ID (which you had registered with the Windows Phone App Studio), you’ll be able to developer unlock your phone with the click of a button.

4. Install the Preview for Developers App on your Windows Phone and enable the preview program. After you get your Windows Phone developer unlocked, you can download the “Preview for Developers” app from the Windows Phone store. Either click the link here from your phone, or using the web browser to send the app to your phone. After the install completes, launch the apps, and follow the instructions to enable your phone for the preview program.
5. Go to Settings > Phone Update and check for updates. After a while of “checking for updates”, your phone should find the GDR3 install files and from there you’ll be able to download and install them. The phone will reboot, show some gears animations for a while, then reboot again and perform a data migration step. After that you should be running the latest built of Windows Phone 8.0 GDR3!

just followed your steps and gdr3 is being installed just fine. thanks bro.
This is great news!
I gather that the Lumia 920 wont get the 3 tiles across the screen! I for one think microsoft whould make this an option up to the user?
Anyone got an ideas on this?
works like a charm! tnx!
Yup, easy does it It doesn`t take much time to set things up and update.
I agree with jpneves1978...I've been trying to look all over for the option of 3 tiles across the home screen for the 920...
I think this would be an awesome feature, and just make it a lot more useable even as an option...
It looks like the 1320 gets it, and it only has the720p screen, so it would be interesting to see if the 920 gets it too...
Running GDR3 now. Thanks man! I can see the new GDR3 features (except 3 tiles ), but I don't see any version changes in the About page or extras + info page.

Firmware version stays the same, you only installed the MS update GDR3 preview so Bitter Sweet Shimmer can be installed when ready to roll out.

Do you think with bittersweet shimmer or "lumia black" we will get the option to pick 2 or 3 middle size tiles wide?

Bittersweet Shimmer was renamed to Lumia Black.
Does this void the warranty? If yes is there any possible to revert back to stock after installing the preview for developers?
You can revert to amber via nsu

*Uninstalling then re installing Kies
*Uninstalling then re installing Samsung drivers 1.5.5
*Tried changing ports of connecting usb in PC to phone
*Tried with another phone"S3 MINI" but it asked for "android" driver
*Made Windows search for that driver on Internet but it didn't find it
I don't know what that driver is......maybe can someone send me a link to that driver so i can download it ..Thanks in advance
try to copy to SD Card
but i don't have that thing where i put the Sd card in..
put it on another phone
or
download wifi file transfer pro
you will be able to manage files in your phone form browser
you can upload from pc to phone
or download to pc from the phone
Try updating Samsung kies with the latest driver and see if that helps.

You could try installing the drivers manually so connect your phone to your PC via the USB directly to it, not through a USB connecter hub or any 3rd party connector
Right click on My Computer then click Manage
When the screen pops up on the left click Device Manager
You should find your mobile listed in three places
Expand Portable Devices you should have GT-i9300 listed
Expand Samsung Android Phone there should be an ADB interface option
Expand Universal Serial Bus there should be Samsung USB Composite device
They may not be exactly the same as these but you will recognise them
Right click on each one select Properties > click the Driver TAB > Update Driver
Click on Browse My Computer > Browse to C:\Windows\System32, make sure include Sub Folders is ticked. Once you have done each of the 3 connections unplug the phone, restart your PC then reconnect your phone, see if it works.
If that doesn’t work then follow the above process until you get to Browse My Computer but this time Click
Let me pick from a list and install the drivers listed there In each one you should get a list of driver options that will suit that connection.
Other option you have tried which is to uninstall Kies but when you uninstalled it did you restart your PC then completely delete the Program Folder Kies is put in before re-installing it, also the correct Kies version might help there is Kies and Kies3 but you probably know that.
When you install Kies then connect your phone it should install the drivers automatically but if you have a firewall that could be blocking the installation but not informing you that it is doing this so try turning that off temporarily as well.
