Morning all
Is there a way to get notification previews on the lock screen on the Z2? (Pop up box in center screen a la ios)
Have had a quick search on here and couldn't find any info, also been through a load of settings etc but havent stumbled across it.
I assumed it would be an option, without having to download another app.
Any help appreciated!

You'll have to wait for Android L or use an app like KnockĀ².
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.knock.knock.plus
Edit: Turns out the feature you want is not yet released in Knock, and will only be available in a later version. Sorry bout that.

This is a response on another forum I did but it suits this situation so it's just a copy and past. Wasn't sure if you meant a response to sms or just notifications but both are covered.
You have 2 options really. I just am using them both as had enough of the standard text app telling me I had a message after I read it in the notification bar (there is a easier way but I liked all programs so kept using them). There are other apps but I use Chomp SMS to replace the standard messaging app. This will give you the option of reply bubble without going into the messaging app like Iphone.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.p1.chompsms&hl=en
Other options are Textra, GoSMS, Handcent...
But I have taken it on set further and use Nils which without the quick reply of Chomp SMS to give me the listed messages on the lockscreen as a widget. You can then just go straight to the message app from the lockscreen to answer if you hold and swipe.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.roymam.android.notificationswidget&hl=en
This will become redundant once we get 4.4.4 where it become standard in android.
If you just looking after preview you could go one or the other without getting both. I liked ChompSMS so matched it with nils. Also can use Icon Changer if you dont like the Icon for Chomp SMS which I will probably do.
All programs are free and available from the Play store. And you keep the original lock screen as I like the unlock method as well.
Thank you for your reply.
I'll check these out for sure.
Its funny, having been ios for 5 years, there are little things I miss.
What I don't miss is the godawful piece of trash known as 'iTunes'!!
(My main reason for ditching my iPhone, the other being I love my Nexus 7 and my little Nook HD)
Also just read up on Android L, lets hope the update rolls out to us Z2 users swiftly!
Thanks Again
SW
You can enable the Android L feature already if you are rooted.
I have it and it's brilliant. Root the phone, install Xposed, install Heads Up Notifications, and voila.
I also have Light Flow installed (this doesn't require root). This basically turns on your phone's screen when you receive a notification (you can customise it to decide which notifications you want). It used to really annoy me how the Z2 didn't turn on when a notification was received.
Now, thanks to xposed, Heads Up Notifications and Light Flow (lite), I have the perfect setup.
Have a question hope you can help. I was getting weird text from a random number the other day so I blocked it. But in doing so I block all my messages notification so it does not tell me when I have a message. I've been trying to undo it but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions? Thank you

I just had an idea. Instead of texting by switching applications, what if you could just pull down the notification window, type a message and read it. If it worked with Google Voice, that would be very cool too!
I have no idea how to code this, but I am a designer and could create some pretty GUI for it.
You could try something like SMSPopup or the popup+quick compose shortcut that handcent has
Do you mean compose an entirely new message in the notification bar or reply to one you received?

I like his idea, I wouldn't mind seeing something official or official looking that popped up when long pressing an SMS notification that let you select reply, that kept you in your current app but popped up for replying like QuickDesk or SMS Popup does.

Maybe, but if you could send texts from the notification bar, next thing is someone else would want to send emails, someone else would want to make voice calls, someone else order pizzas and the next thing you know the purpose of the notification bar is lost in a jumble of features ... what's so difficult about pressing the sms icon to send a text?
Kind of pointless seeing how as you're one click and several milliseconds away from the full fledged SMS app. Remember, this isn't an iPhone, stuff works here - fast.
The notification bar is just that, a notification bar.

True. But I don't see why notifications can't have long-press options. The problem is, this would sorta have to be on a per-app basis. Meaning nobody would make an app that included a menu for the notification unless it was an official feature from Google, a part of Android 2.5, for example.

I was thinking that it would be a good idea to create something like what the OP wants, but I really like your response and you make a good point.
My two cense [yeah im UK so cant spell that word xD]
1) Popup SMS, I installed it very early on in my N1 career, never uninstalled it, its perfect for me.
2) While we dont NEED this, it would be interesting to see if its possible to type in the notification bar, as there may be other uses.
this gives me an idea too
i always hate going back to home or clicking music playing notification to change music.
If there was a little previous, play/pause and next icon it would be awesome. As the status bar is nearly always visible we never have to exit the current app we're in.
Hopefully someone can do this
but yeah sms would be cool too
A stinky note / drawing pad would be cool too. Just a way to quickly write a note, be it a phone number or grocery list, and view it anywhere without minimizing the current application.
Even though there are dedicated apps for all of this, the ease of use and speed of the notification bar are noticeable. The Framework is always running in the foreground.
Is it possible to have notifications pop up on the lock screen? I'm thinking specifically of text messages here, as the phone makes a sound but doesn't really give any visual indication apart from a tiny LED blinking away.
Can it be done on the standard UI or do I need to install something else? Sorry for the noobish question, this is my second day using an Android phone
I think you mean like the iPhone does? Because I was just looking into that, but haven't found if a launcher or SMS app. Any help greatly appreciated.
Pretty much like the iPhone does yeah. That's the one drawback I've found so far moving over from iOS
Widgetzoid.....
Ive been using Handcent SMS and it has a feature similar to what you are asking for. Under the applications menu go to Notification Settings, Popup Settings and uncheck Privacy Mode. It works on the Motorola Droid and HTC Sensation.
Check out GO SMS Pro. It's a free messaging app that is skinnable with a theme that looks almost exactly like the iPhone. It also has popup notifications when you have a text, and can even turn your screen on when receiving messages.
Hey all,
Spent a lot of time on iOS. Really trying to make the transition to android and the one thing I really miss is the lockinfo / bitesms combo from cydia.
With this I was able to view all pending SMS / Emails on the lockscreen and also reply to SMS with a popup but only AFTER clicking on the notification.
What I'm looking for is the functionality to receive SMS, see the notification in the top bar, bull the tray down, click the SMS, get a quick reply popup to compose and send the message, collapse the tray and go back to what I was doing.
As of now I have to use the notification to open the messaging app or use a different messaging app altogether (handscent, Chomp), all of which seem to popup at the receipt of the message or not pop up at all.
Thanks!

Give GoSMS Pro a shot, not exactly what you've described, but it does use pop-ups that appear in front of the currently running app and allow you to quickly reply then go back to the previous app.
Idk if miui is out for s3 but that rom has a similar feature that i loved built in ..

Got GoSMS already and have been using it since earlier today. You're right that it's close but what I'd like is have the SMS pop up in the notification area and reply to it using a quickreply window when I get to it instead of it flashing up in front of me while I'm doing something. Also, as soon as you use a custom SMS app it no longer allows for the use of the raise to call motion - which I find is actually fairly useful!

honestly I miss BiteSMS too for my iphone 4... I hate Apple though.
Try SMS popup, it's the closest thing for me so far and you can change LED notification and contacts ringtone, make sure to disable the system messaging system so there wont be any conflict. Give me a heads up if you find anything better.
So I watching WWDC 2014 yesterday and really liked the Actionable Notification for SMS (dont care about other apps). IMO, its an essential part of phone and I really liked this feature. Anyways, for months now I been trying to find a popup quick reply app that lets me quick reply from lockscreen on my Nexus 5 running CM11. Some stuff I found was SMS popup which didnt work to good on handling multiple messages. I used EvolveSMS for a long time since it would unlock the screen to show you the popup sms and once you hit send it would bring you back to lock screen. However I was looking for something like ChompSMS where it did that but it gave me option to customize my popup menu, I have to option to open, close, reply, delete etc (I can customize buttons) for my popup screen. Plus I can swipe from one message to another if multiple are popping up at the same time. However I was more in line of something Apple introduced, simple and yet elegant, just sms straight from notification bar, pull down and type.
Anything like that?
Just ran across Floatify in the Playstore: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.floatify
Seems to work on the lockscreen the way Android Marshmallow notifications should work! I disabled the heads up setting in the app, but in my 5 minutes of playing with it, the lockscreen works GREAT! You can keep your ZTE lockscreen, the notifications just display on top of it and you can swipe them away. You do disable the stock notifications, but this has worked fine in my email and text test as well as a few Dropbox notifications.
It lets you expand the notifications too.
Only down side I've seen so far, you need the "pro" version ($1.49) to get the notifications to stack on top of each other.....Otherwise, with the free version it still works....But the newest one is on top, when you swipe it away there is one under it....so if you get 6 notifications, to see the first one you'll need to swipe away all the others on top. I've already purchased the "pro" version, otherwise I'd test that setting out to make sure I'm correct in telling you this?
But all's I know, I'm really happy with this $1.49 app!
Nice find! How well does it handle music playback notifications?
does it work with the fingerprint scanner?

it does not replace the lockscreen, it just creates notifications on the original one. Thx for the hint, very nice app

Well, when I first tried it, it didn't show anything... Then when I was about to post this, I checked again and it shows up just like a standard notification (along with the others).
I'm using Shuttle+ and the top one is the music notification. No controls, just "what's playing".
Lol.....It even reminds me that my wife took the Kohl's card last month and used it (busted).
Best solution I've seen so far.

It's a flashable .zip font called "ChinaCat". You have to be rooted to use it, since it flashed via TWRP.
Yes, amazing. I hated that bell, now it's six feet under.
I just wanted to provide a different option for anybody who wants the finger print scanner + album art to work.
Hi Locker.
Main benefits: full album art with the audio controls and works with finger print scanner.
The main downfall is if you want to do the finger print scanner, you have to have ZTE's stock lock screen enabled which means you'll have two lock screens.
It works two different ways.
1. If you press the power button, it'll bring up the ZTE lock screen with the bell. If you have your lock screen set at swipe, it'll then go to the Hi Locker lock screen which will display notifications. If you press the button, you can unlock by using the finger print scanner twice. So, ultimately, using the power button and swiping immediately will bring you to the next screen and that will have all your notifications including album art taking over the wall paper and audio controls.
2. If you use the finger print scanner, it'll bypass the ZTE lock screen and go straight to the Hi Locker screen. Now you'll be able to function with all the other above. You can then use the finger print scanner a second time and you'll completely unlock the phone.
It's a weird way but this was the best way to get the finger print scanner and album art going at the same time... until ZTE releases something.

Great!
tele_jas, Thanks for sharing this one! I think it's much better than having a second lockscreen. I left my native notifications turned on,but just turned on the "Show on the lock screen" option (to kill the bell). Then, inside Floatify's settings, under Heads-up, then under "When", I disable "On Notification", but left "On Lockscreen" set to All Notifications. So I have Floatify only on top the lockscreen, and the default system notifications everywhere else.
Great find!
Thanks for this thread, love this app it's a massive improvement to the Axon 7.

Looks very promising.
Just bought it.
Just one question how disable the bell icon being on lock screen or it's not possible to all time hide it?
Edit: I don't know but find it very complicated through setting.
Too many settings and similar option
Missing simplicity from the app.

Just uninstalled and got refund.
Sorry I find the app too messy and complicated with dozens of similar option and settings.
Prefer next lock screen as lock screen replacement and I'm using glimpse notification to wake up screen on notification alert and double tap to sleep from lock screen.
Or just wait if being stock until ZTE make the bell optional witch not being late until released via software update.

How disable not interact badly on lock screen when pull down notification while playing music??
Also interact badly with player pro widget on notification center when pull down while playing music.
I don't know how disable music player widget on floatify.
Even disable player pro widget on player pro it continues to show both player pro and floating app music player widget together on Notification Center.

Sorry to those not happy with it and are asking me questions on how to use it?..... I liked it and found it useful and posted the link. I don't really know much of, or any of the technical stuff about it, I just set it up and left it alone and haven't touched it since day one. No, it's not perfect and not as useful as real stock android notifications, but I still like it MUCH better than the "bell".
I do know when you "start the app", you'll get the option to disable the stock android notifications (the three choice menu). You want to choose to not show any notifications and this will disable the "bell". There is someone on here uses it a slightly different way and left instructions on how they used it.
