I have been holding off on the OTA update so I can keep root.
After doing OTA my phone will not start it just keeps trying to apply the update and fails.
What was the Update I was on(Before MC5) and is there a nowipe odin image?

sounds like what you need to do is go to this thread and scroll down to the blue text. Do that step first. So you'll be doing his procedure in reverse order.

Does anyone know where is the downloaded update stored ?
Don't want to update right now but it is going to remind me in 3 hours, and is there a way to stop the update process or do a factory reset will it skip the update?

Just connect to the pc and update with Kies, or flash the new rom with Odin.
Just wanted to skip the update completely, so how to avoid update ?

If a box appears that an update is available just press no, look in settings, about the phone, software update and you can disable fota updates.
Did you try removing the battery in between the update ?
It stopped popping up after i installed a ROM. I refuse to install it since i did it before and my phone would not root until i got an exchange from sprint and didn't install it the second time.
This morning I noticed I had an update available. I'm rooted with TWRP and SuperSU, by the way. After doing a little research first, I decided to download Voodoo OTA RootKeeper v2.0.3 just to be on the safe side. I then decided to let the update run it's course but it failed and took me to TWRP recovery. I was able to reboot to the regular system, but I've been getting the Verizon OTA update notification all day, but it just stays at the "busy" status bar without actually starting to download anything. When I try to access "Software Update" in the About phone menu under Settings, it says "Download interrupted. Software download will resume automatically." And then in a couple of hours, the whole process repeats.
I'm at a loss here. Is there a program that is slapping the OTA update down like TWRP? If so, how do I bypass it?
Thanks in advance.

good suggestion :good:
I was searching to see if anyone else was having issues, but couldn't find any. I finally decided to turn the update off for the Verizon update, but it keeps saying unsuccessful and I'm assuming because the phone is rooted at the moment. Is there a way for me to install the mk2 update?

Nope, it'll install even though you're rooted, but you need to restore anything you've modified before the OTA will work - or at least any files that the OTA is trying to upgrade.

my guess is maybe the wifi tether, I was attempting to get it to work and there was a file or something to overwrite through a script from one of the threads I was reading. Could that be it?

Very likely the tether - it changes the framework, doesn't it? That's very likely to be updated by the OTA.
Yeah, i have the same issues.. When i download the update ( I'm on MJ7 Rooted) it says please install, i click okay. It reboots it goes into the recovery, tries to update but shows a Error Android image, Restarts, then displays this message saying Error Phone couldn't update nothing was effected or something like that. What's the issue?! i wanna update / root because this message for the update pops up every damn day and it's so annoying! Flash the MJ7 no-wipe ROM that you'll find in the Android Development forum. That will restore all of the stock files that you should need (and also cause you to lose root.)Then, update to MK2 and re-root.
I was on ME7. I was rooted, and safestrap. I was running hyperdrive. I've removed hyperdrive, removed safestrap, took the MI1 update and lost root.
Now I keep getting a notice for another update and it keeps failing the update when I try to install.
What can I do to fix this?

You can either disable the OTA update notification and remain on MI1, or return your system to stock and take the update. Which would you like to do?
Freezing SDM will stop the update notifications.
Flashing a no-wipe ROM will get you to stock and allow the OTA to proceed, which will get you from MI1 to MJ7.
You can then easily re-root.

I'd like to return to stock, take the update and then re-root. What rom do I need to flash and do I flash with Odin? If so, what on odin do i click?
Thank you for your time and help.

I got an OTA,
Download and Verified
Rebooted started to install
Then got the Android laying on his back with error under it.
So I held the power button,
the device restarted but no longer offers an OTA update.
My questions are,
Will given time will Google catch on I am running old firmware a offer the OTA again?
Can I force the OTA?
Will it even complete it failed the first time?
or
Should I just give up, find the image, extract it and update manually?

Install could have failed for a variety of reasons. If you are rooted, or have a custom kernel, or are unencrypted, of there is any modification to the system.
You can sideload the OTA, but really? That's as much work as fastboot flashing the system image.
So, if your bootloader is unlocked, I'd suggest that you just fastboot flash the individual .img files, extracted from the system image.
.... I did a manual install, I have not had much luck with OTAs
