I saw in the cm11 for xperia p topic the folks there are talking about somethig called ART. Googled it and saw Android Runtime, but still don't understand.
Could somebody tell me what it really ia and some advantages and disadvantages?

Advantage: Super real smooth like butter.
Disadvantage: incompatible with certain gapps and fcs on certain apps like whatsapp

I dont' completely, but as for as I know it is related to building application dependencies & caching related to that. This helps the android system to run without discrepencies between apps. It is going to replace the dalvik(does the same thing of ART in a different classic way). If ART is successful the loading of apps, dependency building, will be faster.
Building the cache, you can see if you have booted your phone soon after wiping dalvik cache from recovery, you may witness the process called "android is upgrading"
My assumption from the what I read & understood is, If ART works as it is intended, you may not need to reboot android to some changes to take effect(if you have changed anything in it) as it need to alter the dependencies. Resutling in improvement in performance as @AndroidNoob69 said above.
And the next thing is, it is still in its infacy, i.e. in developmental stage. Google is expermenting this feature in latest android release kitkat. So this is not a solid concept with error proof. Currenlty developers are exploring it.
Please correct me if anyone knows more.. and if this helped please hit thanks button.........
Dalvik is a virtual where all apps can run without any dependency on a type of device. ART is compiling every application to your device specific, so its running natively, without virtual, those is not creating any bottlenecks as dalvik do.
Very simple but that's it.

So applications in future android may not run in VMs and able run natively. Will it compramise the security in any way? Does ART have any link to SandBoxing? Please clarify.....
Yes, whatsapp is a good example, but I believe support will be very quick on most of apps. Problem might be if you are using some older apps without support.

Gonna try it right as I get home. Anyway, it would be great if we could get the G2-like QRemote, not just the 'lite' one from the G Pad
No go for me on sale sony tv on cm11. Also neither bluray nor DVD have anything in their lists once you click those options.

Is it possible to add Vizio the list of TV makes? This worked great before I moved CM11 and now that I am on CW11 I would love to get my QRemote back but this version post does not list Vizio tv's. (The version that came stock did)
If it helps, I have a backup of the stock rom I made before flashing.
Thanks!

This is not even working fully yet. I lost track of this due to working on GPE ROM. When I have more time I can check why it is not fully working.
From what I have seen the only way to ad other devices would be for LG to allow it. LG encrypts their IR blaster so only devices listed in the quickset device profile work if LGs IR blaster unless someone can crack the encryption. You can search play store for quickset and install the version from play store to see if it has more devices but IR not working yet on AOSP based ROMs yet.

Oh okay, I take it the reason it was working before is because then I was on LG's ROM not an AOSP rom? If this is case, would the backup I made of the LG ROM be of any use? I could pull out the quick remote app or something.
I don't know much about coding for android devices but I can still help. Let me know what I can do to get this project rolling again!

I no longer have v500, returned it and waiting for my v510 to get here. Hopefully we can figure something out that works on both models.
If you check in the G2 themes and apps forum there is a way to get QRemote working with AOSP ROMs and maybe the same method and/or files will work on G Pad.

My friend got it working on his g2 by just download an apk, but trying to put that apk on a v500 (running cm11) unfortunately does not work.
I reckon you'd need a lot of LG framework in order to make this work on AOSP. I wont stop you tho, would be neat. ^^
I just received my new Sony Z Ultra GPe and I couldn't be happier with the device performance but I was really pissed to find that Google decided to remove the FM Radio application that Sony had included on the regular Sony Xperia Z Ultra!!
I tried installing the same APK that is included on the regular Z Ultra but the installation didn't work because it's a system app and my device isn't rooted.
I tried using Spirit FM but unfortunately that failed to activate the built in FM radio and didn't work.
Is there an FM radio app that we can use on the GPe ?

I tried three different apks, the one you posted and one that was nodded to work without headphones don't even show in app drawer. Third one was posted in a ROM thread for different Sony phone showed up but gives toast message saying it has quit working as soon as it trys to open. I wonder if it needs the odex file?
Have you had any luck with Spirit FM ? I've read that it's supposed to work, but again that needs root?

It does work! I had tried it before it was rooted not realizing it was required. The version I had purchased has been renamed "old spirit FM lite" and is no longer supported. Spirit1 seems to work but I didn't get Spirit2 to start. Anyways thanks for spurring me to test Spirit further.
Edit....uninstalled spirit lite and Spirit2 works, also has Bluetooth support.

Yeah, that's the thing isn't it. I have the Xperia model, but i'm currently running the GPe ROM and i love it for its lightness, but with lightness comes minimalism, and i'm a true minimalist in real life and hate having stuff i don't use, BUT having to install a third party videoplayer if i'd like to stream something is incredible annoying. Stuff the stock Sony ROM does out-of-the-box is not possible on a clean AOSP build.
I still love it though, but once in awhile i just have to go back to the Sony ROM and get cozy. Everything there just works.

Sorry for off topic but this seems as good as anywhere to ask.
1. Does uninstalling Sony apps cause issues?
2. Do Sony apps work with 3rd party launchers?

How dare you go off topic! Just kidding.
- No, it depends on what you're deleting. You will end up soft bricking it if you delete SystemUI or any other important app/service/libs but you're safe if you only want to remove "bloat". I made a list of apps that are safe to remove ages ago, and it's somewhere in the Themes & Apps section, so check that out. Be sure to either have a NAND backup ready in case something goes wrong, or know how to recover from a soft brick (bootloop etc)
- Yes, but some or all Sony widgets won't work.

Is there a way the stock Sony FM Radio app which I posted before can be modified to be installed without root (as a non-system app)?

If rooted, try the latest test release of Spirit2 here: http://d-h.st/vky
Or Spirit1: http://d-h.st/de8
Usually, it should "just work". If not, in Spirit1, send me a debug log. Tap the frequency button, enter the number 7 and tap "OK". After 20 seconds or so, press Send from your email client.
Google hates FM, so you don't find it on Nexus or GPE devices. Maybe Google One for "developing world" though, LOL.
ALL stock FM apps rely on "framework" code, usually proprietary and secret. Not a single GPE device has ever been able to run a stock FM app, only Spirit, which is low level and has mostly just kernel requirements. I'm just happy that Google's OEMs have accidentally(?) left the Qualcomm FM driver in the stock kernels.
I'm thinking about officially supporting Sony devices in Spirit2, and so I'm reading these forums to learn about different Z models. Used Z Ultras are now as low as $280 here, and new GPE as low as $350 so far,.But buying a phone is just a fraction of the long term cost learning how to root, unlock, flash ROMs without bricking, etc...

Hi
I've been using bit torrent to download albums and paste them in to my Walkman player.
I do know that using p2p softwares can be harmful. However I scan my phone using the clean master app from the play store and the results are always "no harm found"
But for a strange reason my phone suddenly won't send or receive texts or calls. I have written another post asking for people help on that.
My question is could it be because of bit torrent and clean master can't detect it.
It is a coincidence that my phone stopped working properly after a few days of using bit torrent l. ( I have around 4gb of music on my phone that I've downloaded from bit torrent)
Thank you...

Understood. I just reset my phone by using."back up and reset" in the settings menu. Nothing changed. As I have just read what you said I'm going to look into using Sony PC companion.
P.S is flashtool and Sony PC companion legit. Meaning will they mess up my phone or my computer with malware?
What's the easier and safest tool to use?
Thanks..

Sony PC companion is official, it will download firmware through the app and install it to your phone. Flashtool isn't official but is trusted - although you do need to source and download the relevant firmware yourself to flash to the device (making it more difficult and maybe less secure than the official Sony software.)
Neither will install malware on your phone (just don't download it from a dodgy website).

Yeah 4.4.2 is pretty bad. Google should make a new update!
One of the worst thing of the 4.4.2 update is definitely the fact you cant move your apps to your SD card, unless you flash your phone. Ive tried apps like app2sd and it wont work on 4.4.2. Its so limited in how you can spread and balance your data. I have a 128gb SD card and have trouble copying my music and videos from the phone to the SD card all the time.

Okay yea I should actually.
Thanks for all the help mate.
Just checked the update centre on my z2 and it says there is a system update, but it says it's the same number as the firmware I'm already running? 17.1.2.A.0.314
Any idea why?

i had this simular on my Z2 as well
its caused by the device either being rooted or bootloader unlocked, somtimes sonys wierd update system just glitches out if your neither root or UB
None of the above. Sony had rolled out a minor patch (~25MB) on the existing. 314 firmware. nothing to worry about.
Only minor inconvenience would be to root again.

Ok thanks. Getting root again is simple enough.
Any ideas what the minor patch is?

Might be a bug fix (performance improvement etc. etc.). No clue. May be check with Sony! Doesn't really matter though.
May be to patch root exploit?
small updates from sony are usualy bug fixes or performance increase.
security seems to be a big problem for sony because they always try to patch exploits
generaly bigger things would come with new android versions,
