The only prerequisite is to have a rom with init.d support (all custom roms have it but not the stock roms) and then an SD Card with ext partition. You can make use of the CronMod script to move the data to the ext partition of the SD Card. Make sure to create an ext partition on the SD Card. Download the script from below link and place it in the SD Card. Now boot in to CWM and do Mounts & Storage> Mount /system, then choose "Install zip from SD Card" & choose the required script from SD Card and finally do Mounts & Storage> Format /sd-ext. Reboot and go to Settings> Storage to see you newly increased internal memory.

Follow the link and download the "CronMod Unofficial-By Styrke" from attached files. It's actually a script that you can flash from CWM. Once you flash this script, it moves everything in your internal memory to ext partition of the SD Card automatically. Make sure to follow the instructions from my previous post. Hope I Helped

What rom are you using now? Can you check if there is a file named 40int2ext inside /etc/init.d using a root file manager? If there is no such file, then the installation was a failure. Do post the result. Hope I Helped

While using CronMod script, you don't have to move app to ext partition of the SD Card as the script will automatically do so.

Some goes to your cache, dalvik-cache, messages, pretty much anything else. Some are on the system partition.
Also, regarding the Darktremor question, I'm one of those people who would say no. Actually, it's up to you. I just stick to FroYo's way of doing it, since I get to have more control and stuff over what goes to the SD and what stays in the phone memory (eg launchers and keyboards).

For 119mb? thats too much. i think its bcos the megatron rom installed eaten up my phone memory.
Why you didnt recommend the darktremor? i just want to put my downloaded apps from the market that cant be move to my sd card. is that ok?

download the last flashable .zip
partition your sdcard as explained in the "void rom" thread
put the .zip in the root of your sdcard
wipe everything
flash you rom, then the darktremor zip.

Thanks. but what does partition your sd card and wipe everything do? i always ignore that if want to flash things. btw im using megatron rom not void?
if your using megatron then darktremors a2sd is already part of the rom so u dnt need to install it. how many apps do u have anyways?

hmm but why some of my apps cant be put to sd card.
so far, i have installed 40 apps. only 15 of them cant be put in sd card. the rest in my sd card. but i had to delete 3 to free up my phone memory cause currently my phone memory is 19mb.
is there any other way? if there arent. then there is no point of having 8gb its better just to have 512mb sd card. grrrr
well,if you have not partitioned your sd....there's no way the app2sd included in megatron can work!!
ok,make a backup of your sd,then in recovery mode select
partition sdcard > partiton sd
then select
partition sdcard > SD:ext2 to ext3
then select
partition sdcard > SD:ext3 to ext4
now it should work.
if it doesn't,reflash your rom after a complete wipe (you'll lose all your data and settings)

omg i have do all that, then when i reboot my phone. my scree goes blank. i must installed rom but how can i copt it to my sd card to install it. or teach how to install it from customre covery? helppp
Press the 3 key combo to get in (vol down + home + power) then use the volume buttons to get to USB-MS toggle. You use the menu button on the very right side of your phone to enter. It will allow you to copy the ROM from your pc to the sd card. Remember to exit USB mode afterwards.

Someone told me to format the card with SD Formatter, I've done it but it didn't solve anything. :crying:

In CWM v6.1.0.4 downloaded with Alpha 2 it does not have external sdcard option.
I resolved with CWM v6.1.0.5 which comes with Alpha 3. :good:
Used Sideload option, since it doesn't see any external sdcard as well!

Follow these simple steps:
1) Download MiniTool Partitioning Wizard
2) Copy all your sd-card files to your PC. [ Necessary ]
3) Open the tool, format the FAT32 partition [sd-card storage][this is why 2nd step is necessary] and ext partition[you created for linking apps].
4) Delete the ext partition.
5) Finally, extend the FAT32 partition back to its original size.

[Q] Problems increasing internal memory with link2sd

Hello all,
few days ag I asked how to move internal apps to SD with Titanium Backups. Hitesh2626 recommeded me to use another method : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2082465 and I did so.
I've followed the guide but I did not succeed and I think I konw why: when I run CWM I don't have any /sd-ext partition.
I've followed all the steps under "Partition SD Card" , and I've used ext2 for formatting the new "memory" .
Anyone has had the same problem? Anyone could help me to find what am I doing wrong?
TIA,
Arnau

Hello, first of all, thanks for your answer.
I guess you are talking about step 11, just after chossing the filesystem type:
10) First , Choose ext2. If it don't work then restart Link2SD and when then don't choose ext2 but ext4. ( Don't worry , it works )
11) It will say mount script created. Reboot your phone now.
Click to collapse
If so, yes, after chossing ext2 it does not complain. After reboot I see a second partition "/data/sdext2" : Total:0.89GB used 64,91MB Free: 850MB.
(is it ext2? If I plug the mobile into my linux box it says it's FAT32):
Code:
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdc1 1 13564453 6782226+ c W95 FAT32 (LBA)
/dev/sdc2 13564454 15564799 1000173 83 Linux
Teh "problem" comes when doing "Placing the 2nd partition of SD Card to internal." :
18) Foramt /data /sd-ext /system
Click to collapse
I don't have that "/sd-ext" partition, so I cannot format it.
But I've continued with the manual and tried to install an app (whatsapp). Now Link2sd says that the app has been linked, the /data/sdext2 partitoin now shows 85,97MB used but when I go to apps, manage apps, I see that my mem has decreased in ~ 20 MB . Is that the expected behaivour?
This I explain myself clear? if not, sorry but I'm newb to this world
TIA,
Arnau

Yes, that's how Link2SD works. It will link the data associated with the app to ext partition. If you go to the Settings> Storage, you will see that the total internal memory remains the same. But you can still see the available memory has increased due to linking to ext. To see how much of the ext partition is used, just go to Link2SD> Storage. Now if you are not satisfied with Link2SD, you can try the CronMod Unofficial. First backup all the SD Card data. Also if you want to try CronMod Unofficial after installing Link2SD, it better to flash the custom rom again after formatting /system and /data from CWM. This will get rid of all Link2SD files which can otherwise mess with CronMod Official. Now go to CWM> Format /sdcard. This will delete the ext partition. Now CWM> Advanced> Partition SD Card> Size (Max 1GB, anymore and system will lag)> Swap (0MB) and wait for it to say "Partitioning done". Now download and place CronMod Unofficial to SD Card. Now again go to CWM> Mounts & Storage> Mount /system then flash the Cronmod Unofficial zip from CWM and finally unmount /system. Reboot and you are good to go. Now go to Settings>Storage to see the newly increased internal memory. Here is the link,

1. Yes with this method you'll be able to install all apps to the ext partition of the SD Card as long as you have free space on ext partition
2. Flashing the desired script refers to flashing the script in question, i.e., CronMod Unofficial
3. Can you tell me what happens when you try Mounts & Storage> Format /sd-ext? CronMod uses you ext partition even if you don't format it. Its not compulsory and CronMod should work fine.

Great. But since yesterday I've been experience speed "problems". I'm wondering if makes snes to gain space but lose speed... Maybe I try and decide with this new method. (Maybe the ROM also affects? ace-i-sure 8 to 12 could cause such speed issues?)

Hi,
after a couple of days I've seen that the speed problems do not compensate teh fact of having more apps installed, so I'm not going to try this new approach.
I've re-flashed the rom without using externad SD and it's running really fine.
Many thanks for your help dude!

Glad I could help And yes irrespective of what method you choose to increase the internal memory, there will always be a lag after you exceed a certain number of app install. This is because in all cases the /data is moved to ext partition of the SD Card. SD Card R/W speed is always lesser than internal memory R/W speed. You can control this lag to a certain extend by using class 8 or higher SD Card and only installing necessary apps.
