I have 2 Galaxy notes that have been stock since day 1 with no modifications other than sim unlock via code. I waited patiently till the official ICS release came out to do my first ever phone update using Kies. After the update, 1 is running perfectly and the other has a notification stating that the sim card is not valid, contact customer care. I swapped sim cards and got the same error. Both Sim cards on other phone working properly.Restarting phone didn't resolve the problem. After a few seconds to minutes from time of reboot (in which phone recognizes network and I can make phone calls normally), the same error occurs sometimes with the code in place of the Service Provider name (63081)? I tried factory reset using phone menu and it wiped it clean but still same error. I tried reinstalling the ICS firmware/rom update provided via KIES and I'm still getting the same error.
I researched this plenty and noticed that others have had similar problems with sony phones after ICS update with no resolution.
Any suggestions?
is rooting possible yet to try another rom?
Can I go back to GB though I don't have a backup?
It sounds like a bad modem flash.
Why not make a nandroid of the good phone and restore it on the bad phone.
Thanks for your reply. I resolved it. Even though I had tried a different sim from the same company for a nother number and it hadn't worked, I still decided to make a new sim for my number and that seemed to resolve the problem. Still odd as to why ICS update would do that.

Hey everyone! This is my first post on this forum, although I visit it regularly. However, I have some major problems with my Galaxy S III and I've been trying to solve them since 3 days. Firstly, I want to say that I really did read most of the threads here, but I couldn't find a solution, so I decided to make a new one. So, my phone is not locked, but I realized that I couldn't connect to a network outside the country I live in. I use the same sim card which I use in my country, so I thought I have some roaming problems, because when I got back, everything was alright. I mean, I used my sim card without any problems immediately after I came back. Now I am out of the country again and I faced the same problem with my sim card, which is working on other phones. I tried other sim cards on my phone and I still cannot get into a mobile network. After that, I decided to look around the forum and I realized that I have updated to 4.1.2 two months ago and I probably have problems with EFS since I am with xxemg4 rom. I had an EFS back up on my external SD card and I tried to back it up using ktool, but without any effects. Then I decided to downgrade, I used different stock roms, even modified ones (such as MIUM and CM 10), but nothing couldn't help. Tried ariza patch, tried to patch the modem, tried "EFSv2 basebands" and they did nothing. Everything just got worse. My IMEI now starts with 0049, even my serial number is not the same. I tried to use nv_items_reader_writer to get back my IMEI but it doesn't recognize my phone. Then I tried to use the #7284# command, but my phone doesn't recognize it. I am out of ideas and I dont know what to do. I cannot take my phone to service, because I am not in my country and I dont have international warranty. I welcome every suggestion.

Did you flash any other modem with XXEMG4 rom? ....The modems after XXEMG4(along with xxemg4) reformats your EFS Partition so if you use any modem before XXEMG4 it will not be able to read your EFS partiton and thus your IMEI number also cant be read and it turns it to 0049 which is invalid thus you cant get any connection (mobile data/Calls/SMS etc)
What you can do is flash any modems after XXEMG4 or just flash the XXEMG4 modem itself ....that should reformat the EFS partition and thus your IMEI will be back to normal
Other than that what you can do is flash any rom after the XXEMG4 rom which again had the new EFS format in them.....samsung suddenly changed their plans and pushed these firmwares out with such a format
If you found this helpful why not press the thanks button

Hi!
So I have this problem with my Samsung Galaxy SII that it doesn't recognize the SIM card for the most of the time. When this problem started, the phone was completely stock (Not rooted/Not a single flashing made by me). Android version was the latest official 4.1.2.
Problem description:
I could be using the phone completely normally and then suddenly it reports that there is no SIM card. Now with pulling out and putting back the SIM card and rebooting couple of times, it might recognize the SIM card again and work for a while (few hours).
What I've tried to fix this:
1. Tried the SIM card on another phone, it worked perfectly.
2. Tried another SIM card on my S2, didn't work any better.
3. I thought that as the warranty is over, I might aswell just root my S2 and install the CyanogenMod 12.1 and check if this fixes the problem (Well it didn't).
4. I saw that my IMEI number shows nothing so I did this: [GUIDE] Recover your IMEI in 9 steps..
Well step 4 didn't bring back the IMEI number but now after rebooting a couple of times when I got my SIM card to be recognized again and then checked the IMEI, it was correct. Though the SIM card wasn't detected after a while again.5. Well now I flashed back the original Android 4.1.2 and checked the IMEI number (SIM not detected), it showed "null/null".
6. I went back to CyanogenMod 12.1 and saw that when it's showing blank IMEI, it's also showing "Baseband version: Unknown.
7. Flashed a new Modem+RIL, not helping either.
8. Tried many other things which I can't remember now but found by googling.
So it's sometimes working and also shows the correct IMEI and baseband and sometimes they are all gone?
My question here is that is there anything I can still try to get it working. And also if anyone knows where the problem could be? Is it some part that is faulty or is it the software that is messing with me? I'm quite handy at taking apart and changing the parts inside if that is the case. It's just that I'm not going to pay over 100€ for a new motherboard to get it fixed.
Thanks for any replies!
During the writing of this message, I took the pictures which I attached to this message.
Hi,
Its been very recently that I bought SGS3 i9300 *exynos not qualcomm, in used phone and I'm pretty much in the dark what material does SAMSUNG puts into his phones to make them full of *beep*.
I was running XXELKC 4.1.2 firmware and I decied to just root > recovery > CM12.1 or CM13 SGS3.
Well everything went well but I ended up with no sim card error. Then I thought that might be my sim card is corrupted so I put in a newly replaced microsim card and put in the phone still no good.
Then I did wipe system+cache+dalvik+data and installed CM13 from TWRP. Still ended up in no simcard error.
Then I got to know about XXEMG emergency zip radio which is cross-efs compatible so I flashed that one. I ended up in NO IMEI/Baseband
I flashed XXELKC PDA file back and phone booted with its own IMEI number preserved.
Now I have working DATA connection but phone doesn't register on network for calls/sms.
What is the possible issue here?
I cannot find working modems link as the REF thread has dead link to modems.
I do not know how to fix this phone, and I've made myself a promise that this is my first and last samsung phone ever. Please help through this one for the last time, even it means working phone on a JB 4.1 firmware but I want the simcard/network/calls working to resell it and get rid of it.
Thank you for actually roaming around in Q&A section and taking a look.
Nobody?
I have an S6 edge with a glitched IMEI, it is returning 350000000000006 as the IMEI (different to the original IMEI which is shown on the back of the phone). I have tried all of the suggestions I can find for getting the original IMEI back including flashing a stock ROM with ODIN, flashing a stock rom with ODIN while erasing the device's NAND, and trying to fix the IMEI with xposed, but nothing works. It looks like the owner of the phone took it to have it unlocked, and it got flashed with some sort of custom binary, but restoring the device fully to stock didn't help. So I'm not convinced this is a simple EFS partition corruption, and that something might have permanently screwed up the phone's IMEI. Is there anything else I can try to restore the IMEI, or is the phone now as good as useless?
Just curious Shane 2 if you ever made any progress on the Galaxy S6 edge.
I had the same thing happen to me over the weekend. It was very unexpected because the phone is not rooted and I have never flashed anything to the phone. I bought it refurbished on ebay and it has worked flawlessly for 2 and a half years. Then yesterday I got the error 101 the phone has been flashed with unauthorized software & is locked and my IMEI shows 350000000000006. I was about to try and restore the factory ROM, but after reading your post I don't want to risk bricking the phone. Weird thing is it still works with Wi-Fi Calling, it just can't connect to the network.
