[Q] Regarding xposed framework and Ota update - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

So I have a z ultra Google play edition
I would like to disable immersive mode in mx player
For that I need xposed framework installed
But I hear that installing it would stop Ota updates
Is it true?
If so then how do I update to Android L when it's available despite being rooted and having xposed installed

xposed <might> stop OTAs installing, just depends on what they update, and how they do it. The last two GPe OTAs have been patched based and they tend to be harder to avoid conflicts with changed system files.
I doubt that the release of L will be as a patch, TOO much will have changed I think. So I think the next GPe update will probably be a full OTA like the one from release firmware to 4.4.2.
A full OTA will tend to just look at the model number to make sure it's correct and carry on, maybe the bootloader as well?
If there is a problem with the L releas you could flash the full 4.4.2 OTA and then go from there

And if i had the NORMAL Z Ultra would installing xposed hinder updates from Sony ?

Might.
Remember that xposed can be removed, stock kernel flashed, BL locked to get any OTA to work as well. There is a price to pay to moding your phone - if that price is too high then don't do it.

Thanks a lot for the replies dude

One more Question
Will simply Uninstalling Xposed Framework REVERSE the changes made when Xposed was installed ?

Yes it will. Without the modded framework all the modules can't change a thing, so basically you are stock.
Likewise, if you don't uninstall the modules and proceed to reinstall the framework, all settings will be saved...

[Q] Problem installing 10.4.B.0.569 OTA

Got the update to 4.3 ota today. It downloads OK, and then it reboots to install the software. After just a short while I restarts. I get an error message 'could not be installed', but no other info on why it failed. The update is 305.1mb.
I am rooted, using supersu pro, survival mode enabled. Supersu is installed as a system app, want to preserve root.
Any ideas why I can not install the fw ota?

Same here, Xperia Z:

Doesn't work with either root enabled or not,

Same here, with superSU pro and survival mode and installed into system. Didnt work by turning of all these features. Have xposed framework too but couldn't update with either active or inactive. Had adaway and adblock pro, removing these two didnt help.
That made me wonder if it is a common OTA update bug across all xperia devices.
Anyone not rooted at all successfully updated via OTA ? If yes, that could be something due to root .....

Did you bootloade is blocked or not? If it's unblocked, relock it with flashtool... maybe it will fix your issue (a backup before is always a good idea ....).
I'm waiting to OTA update because I would be sure the SU in system will work again after update ....
It won't. The same on locked bootloader
Strange that nobody is reporting this issue in Z and ZL forums....are we the only few people who are having this issue?
i have this issue too. I suspect exposed framework or Tablet UI from 4.1.2 mod.

Greenify future plans

So... With Android L around the corner will Greenify support more features without the need for xposed or other stuff?

If you dislike Xposed, i won't argue with that, but sadly you will not experience the full functionality Greenify provides. Unless Greenify is coded to run on top of the android system which I think may not possible without the help of the modified app_process and xposedBridge.jar
I wonder how xposed causes bugs on your system, could you tell me your experience? Xposed does nothing out of the box, it is only the modules that a person installs that has to do something with the system.
betas not showing on Google Playstore
Guys, I am using Greenify with Donation pack on both my devices. In my tablet I do not face any issues. But in my phone, after updating to 2.4.1, the betas are not showing on the playstore. Prior to 2.4.1, i was getting the betas on both my devices.I use the same account on both the tablet and phone. My tablet has 2.4.1 beta 5 and is running properly. But my phone does not get the betas. I have cleared the cache and data from the playstore and again opted in to the beta yesterday night. But till now no betas. Why?

Thank you for the suggestion.
But to my knowledge (and Google's knowledge), there doesn't seem to be a way to sign out of Google. So deleted the Google account from SETTINGS>ACCOUNTS and after rebooting, signed in again. Even after five hours of doing it, I don't get the beta in Playstore.
Now I have opted out of testing and after sometime and may be after a reboot I intend to opt-in again. Let me see.
Incidentally, neither my tablet nor my phone is able to download the beta apks in the first post of @oasisfeng. I get only about 57 kbs of download before it says file downloaded. If I try to open the downloaded file, I get a parsing error. This happens for all the apks listed there.
Any help will be appreciated.

xposed framework lollipop--modules

anyone willing to build up this post on what modules do work on the g3 without putting the phone into a boot loop? yesterday i got xposed alpha 3 installed and had the g3 tweakbox. tried to install a couple other modules that i had on my nexus 4 (kitkat) and that put my device in a boot loop.
here are the list i got:
gmail app attachment size
playstore changelog
wa/wa+ theme
xgpm
xinstaller
youtube background playback
on the nexus, when i installed xposed framework, i got a file that i could flash from twrp in case phone got into a boot loop (it disables the modules or the whole framework i think) but didn't get that on lollipop. anyone knows of a way to get rid of a boot loop other than a factory reset? (had to do that yesterday so asking for future reference).
is it a trial and error to find out if a module will boot loop the phone on lollipop? or is there some other method?

Yes in twrp you can go into file manager and under apps delete the xposed app that is causing the bootloop wipe the caches and you should be good

Not for now... To install Xposed Framework you have to delete/freeze Quickcircle... But, in beggining weather apk was also necessary to freeze... Not anymore. There are some mods to use xposed and weather. Probably, some day, circle case will also be available with xposed

Can you elaborate on that? Earlier i got into a bootloop and had to factory reset phone and i lost the backup xposed made for weather and the clock thingie. A guy sent me the apks that the app created for him. Weather and clock, etc. You think it would be safe to just install the weather ones from within the phone(not flash from recovery) and make them system apps to have it working again? If not, can you advise please? Thanks

Why can't I use ART ?

Hello,
I have a rooted Wiko Lenny running KitKat 4.4.2, and I can't set the runtime to ART.
If I go in the developer options, and then go to "select runtime" and choose ART, it asks me "do you want to change from libdalvik.so to libart.so" then I click OK, it reboots, but it's still on Dalvik!
How can I use ART ?
Note: the same procedure worked on my Acer tablet.
Thanks
Edit : It seems the problem comes from Xposed. Well, for me Xposed is more important than ART so...

Just because it worked on one device doesn't mean it would/should work on another. It is most likely that the changes go the os that the oem did are preventing the switch and even could have had the code removed. I know many oem removed the art runtime code before it became standard.
So there isn't any way to enable ART ? Even with some root apps like gravitybox or xposed or device control ? Also i heard it is possible by editing build.prop is it true?

Depends on if the OEM removed the code or not.
Well it seems that the problem comes from Xposed Framework that disabled it. As far as I know, Xposed has been ported to lollipop so it should be compatible
Edit : No backporting to KitKat is planned apparently.

Xposed dev forced reversion back to Dalvik for KK versions because he saw little point putting in effort developing for ART, which was not close to being in its final state. He was right. Even the change from LP 5.0 to 5.1.1 changed ART enough that there are 2 groups required to maintain 2 main versions of Xposed (there are other versions required for TouchWiz ROMs and ARM64 chipsets).

[Mod][Xposed] Extended Power Menu

Sup guys! I was finally able to find time to convert my previous patch for EPM to an Xposed module! This was not as simple as I expected, as it required dynamic XML generation/integration, which can be cumbersome to say the least. I tried to keep the code as generic as possible to support other models of the A2017, but there are no guarantees beyond the US model. I did add a configurable option to add a bootloader button, but as of this posting (B32), ZTE has disabled this functionality.
FAQ:
1. Can you add support for my model?
- Possibly, but at the minimum you would need to post your framework-zte-res.apk. Specifically, the files layout/global_dialog.xml and layout-land/global_dialog.xml are needed.
2. Does this support MiFavor 5.x?
- I cannot say, it's only been tested on A2017U B32, which uses MiFavor 4.x.
Thanks to wanam for the simple settings popup and apsun for the RemotePreferences library.

very cool that you did a "port", have my thanks - even when I'm not running stock most of the time

Yes but the Xposed Installer app has a toggle switch to temporarily disable Xposed. So whenever you need to use an app such as Android Pay just disable Xposed and and then re-enable it when you're done.

Not worth it if i have to reboot my phone when I want to play games that require safetynet and use banking every time oh well, can't have all the pleasures in the world, but it would be nice to have this as a magisk module.
The thing is, I don't believe it's possible since you need to replace a small part of a file, not the whole file. I don't know how the Xposed module works (or Xposed itself) but I believe it somehow replaces that small part. If there was a Magisk module you wouldn't be able to further modify the framework and it would only work for one mifavor version.
I think this was already discussed but about a flashable zip version
Edit: Yeah, the dev talks about dynamic XML generation/integration

This is correct. I went with Xposed for better compatibility across multiple h/w & s/w versions. ROM authors can likely cook it into their framework using the tutorial from the other thread :good:
Ah bummer. I was hoping to use this module but I'm running v87 Xposed (PurifyOS). EPM requires v88.x. I'm only on unofficial Xposed because Unicon works with it.
If I decide I don't need Unicon I'll definitely update and use EPM.
At the moment I'm using one of the many reboot menu utilities to popup on double press of the back button (using Button Mapper).

I can confirm that this works on stock A2017G B09 with flashable Xposed. may also work with topjohnwu's Xposed but I couldn't manage to make the modded xposed installer find the xposed installation
The ROM is stock B09, from raystef66's flashable zips
Here's a screenshot where you can barely see the model below
So basically you can add that it's compatible with G-B09 somewhere

Works on MF5.0 too (either SuperSu or Magisk). Only if you use the flashable xposed framework v88.2 SDK25 + xposed installer + your apk.
Thnx ! (does not work through Magisk module installing the framework. Installer error framework not installed)
works on B35
Works on B09 Nougat on A2017G, although it does not play nice when messing with screen dpi. I am currently on 500 and icons are misaligned.
