Phone noob need help completely restoring Samsung Galaxy S3. I downloaded a custom kernal called syriah which bricked my phone and now the phone does not boot. The carrier is ATT and I live in America. I have downloaded the default firmware and followed several guides and Ive had no luck. Any would would be appreciated. The phone does not boot. When i attempt to boot it, only shows the samsung logo for a brief second and the then screen turns black.
It appears like you have downloaded a kernel compiled for the International Samsung version (i9300) while your phone is an American version.
If you have a custom recovery installed, then take out your sd-card from the phone, and copy a ROM into it via desktop/laptop. Put the sd-card back into the phone and boot into recovery mode. Install the ROM from the folder in the sd-card.

Indeed, as you been trying out, you could install it via Odin without using a sd-card. Since I always have a sd-card with me, that was the 1st approach which came to mind.
Be careful to ensure that Kies does not come up while using Odin.

Firstly, ensure that the device type for the ROM matches your actual device type. The boot screen should show your device type. My boot screen says "Samsung GT-I9300" on booting up, so I know my device type is International S3 (I9300).
Whether Odin is usable depends on the extension of the file. If it ends in ".tar" or ".md5", you should be able to install it via Odin as PDA. If it ends in ".zip", it's probably meant for installation via a custom recovery.
Do not meddle with the PIT. It's a system managed file for the partition information and you'll want to change the partition data in very rare scenarios.

Hi all,
I've been having a few issues with my S2 (Randomly resetting, freezing, etc) - so I decided to do a factory reset - but it hasn't worked.
When I turn my phone on, it wont go past the galaxy logo. I've tried holding down VOLUME UP, POWER, and HOME - but it doesn't boot it into recovery mode.
I've downloaded odin (the phone is rooted) and was told to download a new ROM and then use the PDA button on odin. But the only file type it expects is MD5, tar and SMD. Whenever I download a ROM, I just get a ZIP?
I'm probably being stupid. Could someone point me in the right direction? I don't care if I lose data, I just want the phone working.

What ROM do you want to flash?
If it's a stock ROM, then extract the zip file and flash the contained tar/md5 file with Odin.
If it is a custom ROM and only provided as CWM-flashable zip file, then use a stock ROM to flash first and flash the custom ROM afterwards, when everything works again.
Here you can get the latest stock ROMs => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487, or pre-rooted stock ROMs from here => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1608071, or use Check Fus Downloader from here => http://fus.nanzen.se/ to check for the latest officiallly released firmware versions for your phone in your region and download it directly from Samsung servers.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I don't care which ROM I use - As long as I get the phone working again. I did download 7comp ROM but I couldn't find any .tar files?
I also converted the ZIP to a TAR but odin isn't picking it up ?!
OK - I've downloaded and installed the latest stock ROM you posted.
It seems to have installed, but doesn't go past the splash screen which says samsung galaxy Sii
Any ideas?
[EDIT] - Phone fixed. I was able to load it into recovery mode and cleared cache. woo
Well done ...now try to go on recovery mode ...if should be able to go....do full wipe...then clear delvik cache...then advance- fix permission ..
Then reboot system ....you are done...
Don't forget to say thanks..

Attempted to root the phone but it didn't work.
I followed a set of instructions, and was asked to wait for the phone to reboot. It now has the "!" rooted icon but won't go past the rooted screen.
System restore and clearing cache doesn't set it back to factory default. Any ideas?

Sorry for late reply. I followed a video on youtube showing you how to root the phone. It looked succesfull as the "!" did appear, but it wouldn't go past that.
So I rolled it back using the original ROM and have given up on rooting it. It's a shame as I really liked Jelly Bean

to root ur phone, just dwnld the .tar file of Siyah v4.1.5 fro the link below, then put ur phone into Dwnld mode and connect to ODIN in ur PC and flash by putting the siyah kernel file(.tar) in PDA section, ur phone will be rooted
http://www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/2012/09/08/siyahkernel-s2-v4-1/
PS- do see that u dwnld the file meant to flash by ODIN ie Download tar (for Odin)
Just flash a siyah v.4 rooted kernel through odin.
I am a newbie from Nepal. I dont have much knowledge of flashing. A week ago i tried to flash CMW recover while i was in resurrection remix JB rom. Till then i am not able to start my phone because it freezes at "Samsung Galaxy S2" logo... Now i dont know the CSC, PDA and kernel version of my mobile. So please help me solve my problem, how can i make it work?
Boot into recovery (Turn phone off. Then hold home/power/volume up) & do a wipe/factory reset. Or if you have a recent backup (or any backup) restore that from recovery. I've done this a couple of times over the past few mths when my phone has spontaneously bootlooped.
didnt help

In that case flash any stock rom you like. I gather you'll be going back to a custom rom pretty quickly in any case (?) so it doesn't matter. Whatever you do tho, do not flash a PIT.

All I can do is download a rom which is in zip format, but i know odin does not support .zip but it supports .tar, so how can i download rom in .tar, also does it matter if I flashed the rom which is not meant for my region?(I mean I dont know my phone's PDA and I am not able to decide which firmware to download since every firmware has its own specific PDA)... Yes, I'll be going back again to custom rom after I make it work...haha
AFAIK a rom for another country wont break your phone, but be careful with 4.0.4 roms because of the brickbug

go to http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3 and choose the stock or even another stock rom you wish, download it.
Boot into download mode and flash the single .tar file through odin, flashing instructions can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
PD: if the downloaded file is .zip and not .tar, just extract the zip and u'll get the .tar

He means don't do a wipe/factory reset from recovery while you're running that kernel. Once you switch to a custom kernel you can relax tho.

Parameter is incorrect error can be caused by either of two reasons
1 . something is wrong with the file you downloaded try re downloading
2.Kies is interfering with Odin, terminate Kies from the background by using the task manager.
Using GT - I9100
Just hit the damn help button if I helped you.

rooting is ok, your problem is probably you flashed wrong file. maybe you should try twrp instead of cwm,
now the only way is to go to download mode and use ADB to transfer a rom that is specially for your phone and reinstall the stock rom,

If odin supports your phone, you can do that, but I suggest u put all AP BL CSC files and flash not only the AP file.
Greetings.
I need your help.
I recorded my mom to 7 android device Samsung Galaxy S2. But it does not fit this version again and wants Jelly Bean.
On the phone for any damage and USB port so you can not record a Jelly Bean via Odin. Unrecorded him just over Odin.
Do you know anyone help me how to load a through recovery? Or, if you have the necessary fasteners Lenten them to me. I've even try alternative backups by copying the older system from another phone SG2. Can you get there only via an SD card.

I really don't know what you mean by "doesn't fit", do you mean installation failed in recovery? Or what?
Have you repartitioned your phone to higher system partition with 45mb preload? , if you did that, then you will have to repartition again to 512mb preload to be able to flash stock rom with odin, please provide more info about your problem..
And how changes to the 512?
It must give specific kernel? It seems to me Send link

To change preload partition to 512mb, you need to use a pit that does that, like using the stock pit or XGB_XGB_512mb pit, flash this recovery with one of them using Odin, and reboot to recovery and do the following :
-Wipe data
-Wipe cache
-Go to "advanced" and wipe Dalvik cache
-Go back and then go to "mount" and format system and format internal sdcard using (default)
Then remove the battery and put it back and reboot to download mode and flash the stock rom alone.
Choose any pit you want from the zip in attachment.
You can not use the pit file does not register until Odin Samsung Galaxy S2 on the computer.
Me SG2 is displayed as Connected When you open Odin. It is simply unmounted
Therefore, if it can be changed to JB through recovery so tell me how

I still don't get what you want, you can easily repartition back no matter what android you're using, just boot into download mode and load the files on Odin and connect your phone and if the drivers is correctly installed, Odin should recognize your phone without any problems
Although the dam phone to download mode odin EQUIPMENT recognized. This does not appear there. Therefore, I ask whether it is possible to install JB differently using Odin

No you can't install stock rom without using Odin.
All i can tell you is to make sure that:
1- you are using a working Odin version, you should use Odin 3.07 or 3.09 or 3.10.6 for better compatibility.
2- Samsung USB drivers is installed correctly.
3- you're using a good USB cable like the original, because some cables doesn't work, also try connecting to different USB ports in your Computer.
If your phone is recognized by Odin and give you error when flashing then check your hardware, probably a corrupted motherboard or check if the firmware is right.
Thank you for your help. After much torment I recorded on the phone custom ROM based on Jelly Bean
Thanks. Although I am not solve the connection problem but it's jelly bean although adjusted
Hello, I am searching for help with my bootlooped galaxy tab 10.1
It's stuck on the secondary logo that is a glowing
"samsung"
I have clockwork recovery installed along with correct usb drivers.
Samsung kies does not recognize device.
Odin crashes when attempting to load files.
I have a quality usb cable
Model # is gt-p7510ma ,no SD card option.
Did you recently flash a new ROM to cause it to boot loop, if not, what were you doing that caused you to reboot the device? If unsure, try using Logcat to see what is causing the problem.
If you have a backup, try wiping device and restoring from that, or if you did flash a rom right before try wiping and flashing another to see if that is the problem.
Odin crashes when attempting to load files.
Use Latest version of Odin , Reinstall your phone drivers , when you put files make sure you put in right place and let him a while to load that files don't touch anything . Once is finish with loading then put your galaxy in to the Download mode and connect on PC .
I received it in this condition. I was able to put clockwork on it through odin but not the stock rom I think. Odin crashes when trying to put the regular tar file on it. I'm not opposed to using rom either. I was told the tablet is rooted and given passwords/pin #for whatever.
