Yup, it caused a lot of issues if you remember, and I guess they couldn't fix it that easily, so they removed the option completely.

Yup, it's enabled as default and we can't disable it (correct me if I'm wrong). You're not the only one finding this annoying.
Maybe it's possible to disable it by editing a string somewhere in /system or something.

If I remember correctly it changes backlight brightness depending on what is displayed on screen but it makes picture on display looks worse when on, on android 4.2 you could disable it under display settings but they removed it from display settings on android 4.3 and they enabled it by default and you cant disable it anymore, its not a big problem to me because picture on my display still seems really good and I cant even remember differences because I updated my phone from 4.2 to 4.3 just few hours after I got it, but it would be good if Sony returns this option to display settings menu so that people who don't like this option can disable it.
Anyway I wont update to Android 4.4 because google did something with sd cards (If I remember correctly they disabled sd card write permission for apps) until they fix that i will stay on android 4.3.
Sorry for my bad English, im from Croatia.

- Download Reddit Sync (free)
- Go to settings and enable dark mode
- Go back and scroll down.
You'll notice that the backlight will adjust depending on what's currently on the screen, causing the dark gray background to become a little lighter. You won't notice it if you're outside or anything, but you will notice it if you're inside.
I've only noticed it when I use gray backgrounds. This doesn't happen with white and black.
It doesn't bother me per se, but I would've disabled it if I had the option (again).

Browser brightness?! Useless and utterly annoying

Hello guys,
is there a way to let the browser stick to the global brightness setting?
Due to that rubbish 'feature' I always end up changing the brightness twice, as if once isn't already enough.
- wake phone
- think auto brightness is too bright -> turn it down
- start browser -> still on auto -> still too bright - aaarghhh!
later again:
- went outside
- wake phone
- put to auto again - looks fine
- start browser
- black screen FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Please tell me there's a work around! This is so annoying and so useless!
There is an option in the display settings about "Auto adjust screen power" and I thought I heard that this adjusted the brightness when there is a lot of white on the screen (like a browser) to save power.
Try this?
Good idea. Unfortunately that's not it. But thanks for the hint, i've seen that dynamic brightness thingy in action and wondered whether i could turn it off.
No, it seams to be a less obvious solution. I'm thinking of the trick to change the user agent. Something like this, but there does not seam to be a about:settings or similiar. Any ideas?

You can change the useragend using about:useragent, but doesn't have anything to do with brightness settings.

Yeah this guy's right, the user agent doesn't have anything to do with brightness or the backlight at all. All it does it trick your phone into thinking it's a desktop PC so it doesn't show the mobile version of websites....as for the auto-brightness, have you got XWKE2 installed? Samsung have much improved the auto-brightness from XWKE1 and XWKDD.
You guys got me all wrong. I meant just like Samsung hid the option to choose the user agent, there must be a place to disable this annoying 'feature' as well. I know what the user agent does, don't expect me to be a total retard because of my 1 digit post count

There's no need to be pedantic about it, it makes your phone display full sites not mobile ones, is that acceptable for your exacting standards?

There was some problem noted with the newer firmwares of 4.3.. But check if you have ticked multiple widgets in lockscreen settings...
Then some users said changing home screen mode helped them... Try that.. If not then you can download firmware mk6 which has that option by default..

1) Did you try Settings -> My device -> Lock screen -> Lock screen widgets -> Clock or personal message / Owner information ?
If you don't see it, perhaps you istalled Xposed framework and module that causes this kind of problem...
2) I think that samsung disabled the camera feature in 4.3, and also didn't include it as a widget. Fortunately, someone developed
Xposed module that does it flawlessly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2363189
(If you don't have root access and Xpoesed framework intalled- well, its about time to start... )
3) Go to Settings -> My device -> Accessibility -> Magnification festures and voilà!
(ps- don't forget to hit thaks button :angel

Well how about that, I finally got my Stamina working and I notice this white-only LED and went on adventure on how to fix this and here you were. Thanks man, gonna try right away and report back.
I don't really know what the purpose of this module is.
The LED remains active in Stamina mode since I believe the 4.2. update for the Xperia Z in mid 2013 or even earlier in one of the newer 4.1. official firmwares...
The same goes for the Z1 and Z1 compact so there is really no need for it.
People don't even need root as it is active with stock Sony firmware.

Umm... I had some trouble with Stamina so I used the SuperStamina.apk from Existenz' rom v5. Then it worked but LED with white when stamina was active... and that is based on 10.4.B.0.569 which is afaik 4.3... So, I dont know.. I thought it was supposed to be fixed as well, but apparently not? This module helped...
Still, stamina is some wonky ****, it's like its random whether or not it works.

Then you're very fortunate that the LED continue to work properly when stamina mode is enabled. For many other Xperia devices (I'm using ZR and many other 2012 models), Sony decided to disable LED or make it to display white color only when stamina mode is enabled. Previously people had to mod the SuperStamina.apk to restore LED, now I hope they find it easier with this Xposed module.

I bet the fortunate ones simply just have a malfunctioning stamina I mean ive been rolling with stamins "enabled" for quite a while now with fine notification LEDs but I found out it wasnt working at all lol
Working like a charm in my xsp
Great work
Works great on Z1 Compact with firmware 14.3.A.0.757 (Android 4.4.2).
The LED was the only reason I disabled the Stamina mode. Thank you very much! :good:

May I ask how you figured out stamina mode was not working (properly or at all)? Reading all this, I began to wonder as my LED notification seems to work while stamina mode is switched on (now, I don't know if it is really working or just pretending to do so).

I just used instant messaging apps to test. Make sure they're not on the exception list. Turn phone screen off without being in the charger. Then make someone write you. If stamina works the message will only get delivered once screen is turned on.

I use a similar method as Kocayine to verify if stamina mode is working or not. The only thing different is I use Whatsapp instead of SMS because Whatsapp allows you to define the LED color while SMS always use white LED for me.
Anyway, you can post your Xposed log here for me to check.

I may have misunderstood Kocayine's post about malfunctioning stamina mode as I thought it didn't relate to the Xposed framework or the specific module discussed here but describe a general issue with some xperia devices. The Xposed framework isn't installed on my phone yet.
However, with stamina mode (supposedly) turned on and screen off, the SMS app will indicate an incoming message with a purple/blueish LED notification. Turning on the screen, I will immediately see the message in the minimised notification area. Now, depending on the way I access the SMS app, the message will appear instantly or with some delay. If I - somehow - get to the conversations overview screen, the new message (or more exactly a preview of it) is shown immediately; if the respective conversation already has been on the screen (or I move there through the app switching thingy), the new message may take half a second to appear. It is very similar with Skype except that, in Skype, LED notifications sometimes do appear when the screen is off and sometimes not.

It doesn't relate to xposed framework. It's a general thing afaik. Btw, don't use SMS, stamina always allows SMS and calls. Instant messaging isn't SMS but something like WhatsApp, FB messenger or indeed Skype. The notification should be delayed until screen is on. Including vibration, vibrating and sound.
In Skype, with the screen off, it goes like that:
Skype running in the background
An incoming message will trigger a sound and a purple notification. When turning the screen on, the notification changes from purple to deep blue and seems to stay that way until I open Skype.
Skype running in the foreground
An incoming message is not indicated in any way. After turning on the screen, the rest is the same as above ...
Now, Skype, being all buggy (on Android even more than on Win) may not be the best test here, I guess.
Thank you! It works perfect and it solves one of my biggest annoyances of my XZ!

Recent apps auto clears overnight

I've been facing this problem, ever since the Pie upgrade. Every morning i find that only the 4 most recent app are available in the recent apps screen. The later ones are automatically cleared up by the system i guess.
I have searched the settings a lot but couldn't find any option that turns this auto clearing off.
Anyone have a idea how to fix this?
Thanks.

Do you by chance chance the limit to 4 background processes in developer settings ?

And they still didn't solved Mi Sound Enhancer and Bluetooth peripherals collaboration albeit big part of population have exactly those peripherals!

If you just look a little bit further than your nose you might understand the reasons for delay.
I was not expecting an update this soon since many has to stay at home in China.
I updated yesterday and for some reason my stock wallpaper (the one with the mountain) used to be dynamic and change throughout the day (sunrise, sunset, night, etc) and now it's fixed on the night time, if I disable dark mode the wallpaper goes back to being daytime. So it's pretty much a static wallpaper instead of a dynamic one, is there a way to re-activate the dynamic one?

In Your place I would check this more closely because if I remember correctly this restore behavior is set as"default" for "Home screen" and this item is constantly restored during ROM upgrade or reset.
Just checked, it's disabled. Right now if I disable dark mode the background stays at night time (its almost 8pm so that's normal) i'm going to check tomorrow to see if the problem persists.

Thank you.
Just checked the issue with the wallpaper, if I disable dark mode the wallpaper works just fine and cycles throughout the day as it should, as soon as I enable the dark mode it forces the wallpaper into night mode. Happened with this update, factory reset didn't fix it and I tried to look for an option but couldn't find anything. Extremely annoying but hopefully it gets fixed.

Hmm maybe this is logical and intended behavior?!
If You look more closely if one activate dark mode then whole OS "thinks" that You are actually using Your phone during night time and You have exactly this kind of behavior!
I believe that there lies Your "problem" and in fact You don't have problem at all and this function works like it should i believe!
