Is anyone using a sony smartwatch with the note 3? Does this even work?
I would find this a great combination since the smartwatch is way superior to the galaxy gear.

Have not used the Sony 2 but no calling capability or camera so I do not think it even comes close and the gear is only just out so hopefully lots more to come.
I read that even Samsung executive's aint as happy with the gear as hoped because it limited in ways thats too late to change, but they are going to make a 2014 edition or V2 which is already designed, so for the cost of the gear I'd wait at least until January and see what happens.

Hey don't shoot the messenger dude, like I said its what I read, and it was on Engadget's blog and I trust their tech news,
But just to add abit of spice to my reply, yea I no what it can do and im very optimistic about what it will do via firmware etc but the hardware issue of battery life is not an easy work around, maybe for modders & hackers but not the general customers.

Let me guess read it on the internet? I keep finding most people never had a smart watch to compare to. I have been wearing a moto Activ for the last year and this is a great up grade of that smart watch. There is no "smart watch" without a phone, all of them are dependent on a phone for updates.
Notifications work really well able to read most of my emails and decide if I want to read the rest. This works best at work and home as the phone can now sit across the room on a charger. The problems come from the gmail app which I don't use. I have several email address and like to check them in one place.
Speaker phone works really well, was quite surprised but the phone allows for the Bluetooth headset and watch to be connected at the same time. If I answer on headset audio goes there, if i answer on watch audio goes there.
You can install more than 10 apps but can only have 10 apps on quick launcher. There are apps released that allow you to create your own watch faces and details, another one looks at the local pictures from the phone on the watch. I would also guess that it will be streaming video from the phone to the watch shortly.
Photo quality is really pretty good if lighting is ok.
Almost forgot battery life is about 2 days and fully charges in about an hour. The moto started out lasting only a day and via firmware updates got it to 2-3 days about the same time as the Galaxy Gear.
Finally, I don't expect an iwatch to support other vendors. When I bought the moto activ it didn't support any other phones but motorola's. You had to run a special app or the watch was stand-alone, if the app crashed (did often) it was standalone. The Gear and Galaxy just work together much better than the combination of vendors. The gear will support other Samsung phones later this month. If I was Samsung I wouldn't support every android phone, if you want a Gear get a Galaxy!

Well i don't agree battery life on smart phones can be very poor yes of course i would like my phone to last a week (charge on Sunday night) and a smart watch to last a month but technology is just not able to do that we except that with phones and I think if we want the benefits of a s watch some of us will except that about them as well, don't wait for gear 2 or I-watch battery technology is just not able to give us longer Without Taking Out Features

I do totally agree with you, but the waiting aspect which I pointed to was for the case of what maybe announced in the next 8 weeks, and if nothing then I buy one myself but as I said the gear isn't cheap so if a new version is only 2-3 months away then I'd rather wait for the latest.

Hey All,
I will be receiving my free Sony SW 2 in a few days, which was on backorder from when I bought my Xperia Z Ultra which I've since sold to move over to the Note 3. My question is which do you guys think is the better accessory to the Note 3 - the Galaxy Gear or Sony SW 2 and why? I personally am thinking of selling the SW 2 to purchase the Gear, but before I do, i'd like to know the pros and cons.
Thanks - and sorry if this has been posted prior. I searched and did not see much on this.
Cheers
The gear hasn't been brought to its full potential. I'd wait for the Google watch or the qualcomm smart watch

very good question !
I am looking for answer myself : )
I v got curently SW2 ,
smartwatch 2
pros:
better looking as galaxy gear
much better battery life (SW2 live for about really 3-4days!)
when you recive email you see what and who wrote to you (on G gear you only see notification and need to get phone and check)
microUSB charger (on gera you have to back to home and use special charger)
much quicker MENU on SW2 than galaxy gear
all the time you see what time is it right now (dimmer screen is on)
galaxy gear compare to SW2
pros:
better display
you can answer the phone and speak
BT4.0 on board better coverage than BT3.0
video camera
THATS ALL
probably I will try galaxy gear but I think it is no good enough than SW2 !

Received my Sony SW 2 yesterday. Haven't unboxed it but from what I can see it looks like a very nice watch. Reading the Galaxy Gear threads, it seems like there are a ton of issues with the GG, so I may hold on to my new SW 2 for a while longer and see what developes!
Thanks to all who've inputted their opinions!!
I own galaxy gear....special charger means a little box with micro usb connector. The size is.a little bit more than a zippo.lighter. The menu is a lot faster.in.the.real product and the platform for gear is getting a lot of dev attention. We have.Root. And we can.install any app from Google play. And I am sure that Samsung will.bring updates to the firmware soon. As for.mail...if you use your Samsung email.acount for Gmail you can see the.content.of. Your mail, for example. There is an app.on the Samsung store for Facebook which works great. It's a well start and.will be.better. With future software updates. P.S. 1.You can really use the.gear as a handsfree, I use that while driving and.my hand.is.on.the.weel. 2. I miss IP67. 3. Battery last at least 24 h with heavy usage and the.charging time is minimum, aprox 1 hour.

I bought galaxy gear
cons:
looks much worse on wrist than SW2
I tought coverage signal will be much betterthat SW2 (BT3.0) but I think is a little worse than SW2 - serious !
SW2 has capacative under screen button wich is a lot qiucker to navigate
ooh I forgot .. much more SW2 comfortyble to wear on it , gear is not to flexible on wrist as SW2 wich fit perfect
I dont see by now much more better feeling using galaxy gear as :
better screen AMOLED and density
I am selling galaxy gear by now !
maybe next time , v2 ?

You get a notification for gmail but it tells you to look at your phone. It doesn't show you the content of the gmail itself. If you use the stock email client and just use that you get to read the content.
Scribbled From My Note 3
I have the GG and I love it. Depending on what you need of course.
Here are some good things that I like
-I love checking my notification when I am in class. I don't care about emails. I get quite a lot text message and checking from watch is really useful to me.
-I also use it as headset when I don't have my bluetooth headset. Just a quick call/answer and found it to be quite good. Not for long conversation though.
-Battery life is more than decent. I can use a lot and still have about 30-40% left at the end of the night. I have no doubt it can get 24 hours battery.
-Pedometer is not so good. I don't use it since it's not accurate.
-Camera is not bad for quick pics. I take some pics of lecture, signs and it works great.
-Music control is awesome. Just wish my note 3 speaker is louder.
-Ability to install regular app through ADB is genius. I can actually install some useful app such as calculator.
Now bad things and wish they will improve
-More apps
-Water proof/Sweat Proof
-Longer battery life is always a welcome
-Notifications from all apps that I use(I don't like using every apps from samsung just to get notifications) This is a huge huge drawback IMO.
Those are my use of GG and I love it for my needs. Your mileage may vary. I hope the god of all devs from XDA find a way to hack the GG and make all the notifications pushed to GG of what user specify. This will make GG a truely fantastic device.
Hi,
The tread is so other people don't make the same mistake and they don't have high expectations. I was able to connect Gear S to Sony Xperia (the usual: some features worked, some didn't). One of the main purposes of buying this watch was running outdoors. I think there is no way to use S Health with a non-Samsung phone. Nike+ works. However Nike+ was designed/coded by a complete idiot. I am extremely frustrated. There is a big white distance number. Other metrics (time, pace, time of day) are displayed with a small black scrolling font on a red background. The scroll is pretty fast. It is impossible for any normal human being to read those scrolling numbers, especially while running: they are too small, scroll too fast, the contrast is too little.
The design is as if they want to discourage people from using the app! Or maybe it was designed by someone who never run?! I am returning the watch!
BTW, you can find "revelations" on the Internet about reverting Gear S colors in order to use Nike+. Doing it breaks other watch functions and doesn't help much. Why would we have to go through so much hassle for the very basic feature: seeing running time in a running app?!?!?!?!

I believe the 9/17/15 S Health update added support for non-Samsung Android devices. It's available in Google Play.
And he didn't even complain about how inaccurate the GPS is. I shaved a minute of my mile time switching back to the Nike app on my phone.

simplest solution, install android on the watch and download any running app youd like, like endomodo or so, or download nike app for android ahahahha
Thanks for replying. I have returned the Gear S watch. Samsung did everything it could to discourage me from using it with non-samsung phones. No problem! Fortunately, there is something called: competition. I am thinking about buying LG Urbane 2 LTE. It will be available in a week or two. If not Urbane, the progress is fast and there will be more wireless/phone watches soon.

I'm also interested in the LG Urban 2 LTE but need to see more details first. I have absolutely zero interest in another Samsung phone. They are pure crap. My current phone, Galaxy Alpha, not even one year old can't get a decent reception anywhere. The only reason I haven't jump on Nexus 5X or 6P is because of my Gear S.

First of all, Galaxy Alpha is not a low end device. Don't confuse it with A3/5. Not the same thing. I have owned Galaxy S, S2, S3. All premium devices at their time. And they are all craps (original S has crappy, barely working GPS, a well known/documented problem, S2 is a so so device. S3 battery circuit craps out a few days past 1-year warranty). Have no interest in Note 4/5 or S 5/6. Handled them and they are not that impressive.
Why would you continue to buy samsung devices if all of them are "crap" as you put it? Do you always buy products you hate and then continue to do so as a form of self punishment?
It is none of your business what devices I buy. But I thought I need to speak flankly about Samsung products since I probably owned more Samsung products than most.

Hey everyone,
I got finally got the urge to buy a smartwatch and couldn't refuse the 30 dollar deal AT&T had with the contract. (Yeah, I know it's weird to get a 2 year contract for a watch, but even if I cancel it, it's still very cheap lol)
What I exactly want still doesn't exist (Gear S like watch with added features of S2 like NFC for tap to pay, IPX68 water resistance, some type of a smart bezel/dial, better app support like android wear for tizen) so I got what I think would work for me and went with it.
While doing all this, wife got jealous so we ended up getting her a rose gold moto 360 Gen 2. She's loving it so far.
I'm not the kinda guy to get last gen stuff, but I feel like this phone has some features I would want out of a smart watch, so I went with this instead of the S2 from AT&T. I would have really liked the LG Urbania (sp?) if it was still available and could make phone calls standalone.
ANYWAYS...
I just want to know if anyone decided to get a Gear S instead of a Gear S2 for whatever reasons... I'm curious what they were.
For me it was:
Proximity, and brightness sensor
bigger screen
doesn't look so much like another watch, so if I decide to wear my higher end watches, it doesn't look like I have 2 watches, but more so one smart device and one watch.
clasp and bit more premium feel
to go charger pack (maybe S2 has this too)
The reasons I considered S2 (and still do)
numbersync from at&t (is this coming to gear S?)
rotating bezel
slightly less obvious form factor (which contradicts my smart device thought)
NFC for tap to pay
I guess I'm just creating a discussion here. Feel free to chime in!
Personal preference
Still loving my Gear S. Haven't seen many S2 or even apple watches in Vancouver as yet, though I'm sick of people asking "Is that the Apple thingy?". I'm using this as a primary Phone these last few months only missing the camera function and initiating messages. That NFC Tap-to-Pay function you mentioned would be nice as well. As for customizing; I have several bands from E-bay to suit my mood and can even make it look high-end. (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s/accessories/stainless-steel-metal-band-gear-s-sale-t3091831). It IS water-resistant; I'm in the movie industry and this thing gets a beating/soaking from stunt and background work. Can't do without it anymore for exercise, riding , dog-walks or emergency - no more losing/forgetting/misplacing big old cellphone. Truth? I just really love showing off the convenience and features. Could've sold at least 2 dozen on set last season. The S2 and apple watch are simply extensions of their respective phones IMO.
I ordered mine from Ebay a few days ago. For me, it came down to the fact that they took away some great features in the S2. I like having the ability to use it as a standalone device. I also hate smartphones with rounded screens. Just doesn't make sense to me.

You mean smartwatch? lol
I figured if I have 2 rounded watches, and I feel like wearing my rolex, it would be awkward to have 2 watch looking devices. at least with the phone like styling of Gear S, it looks like I have some smart device on my wrist lol.
and FYI, S2 does have a stand alone version.

You mention it being last year's tech, but if you compare the gear s to the brand new standalone gear s2 you'll find that it has the exact same processing power. But the nfc would be a nice feature. What it really came down to for me was the gear s has the screen size that allows it to have a fully functional keyboard. The rotating bezel is great in the gear s2 for scrolling through notifications and other functions, but trying to type with that is annoying. I am still surprised at how often I use the on screen keyboard of the gear s

Of course, I forgot the S2 has a standalone version. I saw it every time I went to the T-Mobile website to figure out how to get a data plan. But I'm sure it would be significantly more expensive than what I paid for the Gear S. But correct me if I'm wrong, they took away the speaker and the microphone from the Gear S2, right? I read that somewhere.

They took away the speaker and microphone on the gear s2 and gear s2 classic, but they brought both back in the new standalone version
I will add that using the phone capability few days ago, (wife called, phone was downstairs, I was upstairs) it's a feature I will most certainly expect in a smart watch.
and that being said, even though the keyboard is tiny, it's rather usable with the 'swype' style typing. Easy to text if you have to. Used it several times already. I'll be missing that on the S2.. (of course I can T9 old school which I was pretty good at back in the day lol)
They both have positives and negatives that cancel each other out, but I'm getting used to my S that I don't know if I want to give it up lol.

THIS!!
Exactly the same for me. I waited for the S2 and the speaker (used to Gear S). Once I realized that all notifications just disappear (can't get them back). I was not happy. The sole and main reason I left android wear.
God forbid, we DO want to go back and read a text again, or email, etc.
just my two cents.
Zeek
Got the Gear S2 the day it came out. Felt it did a lot of things right like the rotating bezel, the wireless charger etc. All things considered it felt like a watch that was more catered towards new buyers then early adopters. I've owned every iteration of the gear watch, kept my live for android wear and my nexus 6p.
I ended up returning my gear s2 because it didn't feel like an upgrade but more of I side-grade for all the things I gained i list another and it's so damn small. Not manly at all. If they made a bigger one I could be swayed. The size was really a deal breaker for me. After all the times I walked up to people at the office and pointed at their apple watch saying "Cute watch. Do they make them for men too?" Now the joke was on me. LOL.

I agree. You know what bugs me though? Why the hell did they not update the software on the strip to match the s2? The new keyboard? The new features that can easily be replicated? The skin? I don't get it. I hate how Samsung just abandons their product after 18 months. It really irks me... Just saying.
I think u did forget that the standalone version of s2 dose have a E sim card. Wich is so new that few countrys do have it.
I love my GS and would never downgrade it for S2.. S2 is not a bad watch..but i have tested the moto 360 and a round little screen is no fun for scrolling or using or reading. The only thing i miss in my S is the camera.
Sent from my SM-N910F using Tapatalk
Compared the S2 and the S couple days ago at the AT&T store. Some features are neat (mainly the alternative way to scroll and I like the S health app more) but that's about it. I didn't like the flimsier rubber band, and side by side, that is a very small screen.
AT&T rep and I compared on screen typing (on a pinch if you must) it was a serious PITA even with T9. As we all know, S voice doesn't always work so...
I don't see myself letting go of this watch for an S2. LIike someone said, it's more of a sidestep then an upgrade.
I'll be sticking with the Gear S.
We'll see what S3 brings to the table end of this year. I'm pretty sure it will be another circular watch though.
And I do wish Samsung wouldn't abandon their products so fast. I wouldn't mind if they continued to update the software on this thing and bring few things update like S health.
I've also been messing with the wife's moto 360 2015. it's ok... I'm not really sold on the android wear experience either.
To be fair, s voice is a million times better than what it used to be. It was unusable back in the days of the s3/s4. It's nowhere near as good as Google, but at least it's acceptable on the tizen watches
I look and look for a connected watch that works well with our 6T, are you able to help me make the right decision?
I bought the Galaxy Watch Active and it pairs nicely with the OnePlus6T. I was able to receive all notifications. It's super light weight and I even wear it to bed. However, it uses tizen 4.0 with one UI and it's only $200.
I'm using the Galaxy S3 Frontier, which pretty routinely goes on sale. Right now it's on sale for $230 pretty much everywhere. It will do pretty much everything a phone will, even has built in GPS for stand alone GPS if you want. Note the Frontier has the GPS the regular newer Galaxy model does not.

I second the gear s3 has been working with the 6T since I got it. Nice looking watch that performs great. I got mine from swappa for 90 dollars.

Yes. I have the Samsung Gear S3 frontier and it works great. I am sure any Samsung watch will work.
I use the Withings steel hr sport (ex. Nokia)
It works really well with my OnePlus , but I think all watches work with OnePlus , the exception is of course Apple watch.
Yes Galaxy Watch work perfectly with OP6T.
It depends on how smart you want, Garmin Fenix 5x play very well with 6T too.
Nothing have Ticwatch from Mobvoi
I have been using the Garmin Vivo 3 for some time and battery life is hard to beat. My only complaint is the screen can be difficult to see at times.
Currently using an LG Watch Sport.
I have an LG Urbane 2 that works great, but I need to buy a new band.
Previously was a huge fan of Wear OS (Android Wear) but my Zenwatch 3 had gotten so slow. I upgraded to the Galaxy watch 46mm. This watch is so snappy and Samsung has allowed it to be used with more than just Samsung phones.
As a side note, I got Samsung Pay working with my rooted 6T. I can send anyone the instructions if they need.
I'm using the Galaxy Watch Active and I absolutely loving it. Works perfectly.
I do feel that there is a bad impact on the 6T's battery life - it is definitely gone worse since I got the watch, connected all day via bluetooth.

Please give me news of your Feedback on the Ticwatch Pro, I look at it from a nasty end, she looks awesome.
I'm using a Fossil Sport and it's not working consistently. I don't know if the ram management is too agressive, but sometimes google assistant stops working and it only works again randomly or if I reboot the phone. I've seen many people complaining about it.
I'm using the Galaxy S3 Frontier and Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro. Both work great with the OP6T.
I was wondering why features you guys use on your smart watches. Step tracker, reminder, call/text alert, email, anything else?
Thanks
