If Asus does like they did with their previous PadFones (my PadFone Infinity is in that case), you'll have to wait for Asus to publish an apk on their site. This apk, once installed, lets you unlock the bootloader only by clicking on a button on your phone. You don't even need a PC to do it.
But I don't know if AT&T will allow this. Other PadFones were only sold as-is, with no contract and carriers never sold them.

You can flash from a rooted device with ADB. I've got a CASUAL package in the works. I'd like this to be one of my first packages for my new Web Interface.

What do you have in the works Adam ????? :>

Any luck yet

[Q] Bootloader and warranty

Hello everyone
I bought a new TF201 today, and would like to flash some custom roms, etc and fyi, the rooting/unlocking process is not an issue.
I am wondering if it is possible to return the device to its original out of the box form in order for the warranty to work if I unlock the bootloader. Or would unlocking the bootloader void the warranty forever?

Yes voids forever... if you worried about a return, buy a square trade warranty from amazon.

But how can they know that it has been unlocked? Isn't it possible to lock it again?

B/c you have to connect to Asus to unlock your Prime & they record your CPU serial #. You get unlocked but you agree to void your warranty. And no, there is no way to relock.

I'm going to bump in here. On the device itself is there an easy way to test that the bootloader is unlocked? I was looking into a Square Trade warranty and I wanted to make sure that it was not nullified if I unlocked, rendering my warranty useless. "Technically" it will be but.... any one have experience?

ebay seems to have them anywhere from 180-275 based on recent sales ive observed (plus shipping) depending on the sale
the higher end of the sale price tends to include the box and all original info
brand new in box (sans activating it to clear the esn) is typically under 300
My unlock method can clear gsm esn so can you send me a link

I am at the time of upgrade for my phone. I was wondering if there is any "root friendly" phone manufactures out there? I am currently with At&t (fyi)

ASUS seem to be? - I've got an ASUS Padfone 2 and they seem to provide everything you need on their own website!

Ya but by the looks of it the padphone doesnt work in the USA.
Yeah Samsung is pretty much the "root friendliest" AFAIK, their phones are always super easy to root and have a lot of developer support. LG has the newest Nexus phone though, it's real nice, no expandable memory but you can get at least 50GB of cloud storage for free without even looking for more than five minutes.

I just picked one up, I was wondering if these phones are factory unlocked. Meaning that if we upgraded to jelly bean or installed a custom rom, would it still be unlocked? Thanks

That's what I've heard but the seller Breed gave me this response.
"No, the original settings for the phone is locked settings, unlocking it bypasses those settings.
However, if any updates or upgrades are made, it makes the phone go back to original settings, which would be locked settings."
Would it be safe to use a teenybin or should I leave my phone alone?

Honestly, I would avoid buying an LGOG at this point because it does not receive much support from LG and is too old to be covered under manufacturer's warranty.

Honestly, its still a good price. Especially for people who may develop for it, or enjoy modding their phone. Kind of like the majority of people who visit this forum. I don't know about you, but my warranty was void 10 minutes after I removed it from the box.

I agree, and my phone LGOG has the bootloader unlocked, is carrier unlocked, rooted, and is running a custom rom. However, there is much less development for the LGOG then for many other phones. I would suggest getting a Nexus 4 since it is almost the same exact hardware, similar price, and receives A LOT of support from Google. But, this is just one opinion. If you really like the LGOG and like developing for it then that is your preference and I certainly respect that.

Technically this isn't for the padfone X but the S

Hi i was just wondering is the Padfone s the same in regards to hardware as the Padfone X? i see i can get it on ebay from taiwan and was wondering if there was any difference.
Also i currently have a LG G2 and really want the padfone s so i can have a tablet and phone in one. Would you say i would regret swapping?
Thanks, Fma965.

Well sort off but not really, But nevermind.
Qualcomm MSM8974AB Snapdragon 801 <-- is what GSM Arena say it has
Yet other places on the internet say the ASUS Padfone S and X have the same 800 Processor.
Now i know its hardly a big deal but thats not the point. i want to be sure i know what is in the S before i get it.
The GSM Arena Specs are correct. And it dose have the 801 processor. When it was released in the USA as the X its had the 800, but the international version "S" was upgraded slightly to include the 801
