[Q] MMS with straight talk LTE sim - AT&T HTC One (M8)

I plan on getting an M8 and ditching my iPhone 5S, but i've read various posts about mms not working on the M8 with straight talk. I was wondering if anyone had a working solution, because the ones I saw on here worked for a few people but not everyone. I'm not opposed to rom flashing, s-off ect... Thanks for reading

If the user has selected the "AT&T SIM" on Straight Talk, it uses the AT&T network, and does not require SIM unlock.
If the user selected the T-Mobile SIM, the phone functions (voice call, SMS, as well as cell data) wouldn't work either without SIM unlock.
The fact that only MMS is the problem, indicates the issue is with the APN.

[Q] Thunderbolt on other carriers

If I get a thunderbolt and "put" it on virgin mobile or boost mobile will I be able to use 3g?
Sent from my Evo 4G using XDA App
You cannot use it on Virgin as Verizon uses different 3G bands. You could flash it to cricket or metropcs maybe though....

Nah not even, requires a sim card to send/receive phone calls, check out the unboxing video, if a sim isnt present you can't send/receive (excluding 911).

I believe that the sim card for the TB is only used for LTE. The sim card isn't used for 3G data from what I've seen.

That'll be good I just traded my mytouch 4g for an evo flashed it to metro pcs I live in NY so that didn't work is there anyway I can reset my evo back to stock settings so I can sell it untouched? Or do I have to go to sprint and have them reprogram it. Im gona flash the thunderbolt to boost mobile 3g and that's possible because they both use the same bands right?
Edit: boost mobile and virgin mobile are sprint, same bands and towers
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Yes you can put the thunderbolt on boost!
on thunderbolt dial ##3424# + call select reboot modem+diag.
using ws 3.7.5 go to security and send 000000 to unlock the phone
go to main select cdma2 change r-uim config to NV-only. make sure you take out the sim card.
to get internet to work we need to change the data strings, and thats where im stock at, help please!

Okay Jester...
I've some experience programming phones but could use some help on my tb. I've got phone and text to work (prl change w/cdma2.7) need to program mms, and get internet service working. Please help. I have workshop2.7, qpst
mms, internet, data
For data, internet & market use revskills. The demo will work. Go to the EVDo tab & read the phone. Change usernames to [email protected] and passwords to cricket. NOW BE CAREFUL THE LAST SET IS SWITCHED. THE USERNAME IS cricket and THE PASSWORD IS [email protected]. When you read the phone you will see what I mean. DON'T SWITCH THEM.
At least that's how I did it. There is a great tutorial on www.cricketusers.com for flashing TB to cricket.
I DO HAVE 1 PROBLEM WITH THE 1 I DID. IT WON'T RECEIVE CALLS. I GOT IT TO WORK BUT THE NEXT MORNING IT WOULDN'T RECEIVE CALLS BUT ALL ELSE WORKS. FIXED IT AND THEN AGAIN THE NEXT MORNING SAME THING ALL WORKS EXCEPT RECEIVING CALLS.
ANY IDEAS?
Do I lose cricket if I flash a new rom and wipe data and cache in CWM?

The only thing that is guaranteed to have an issue is the apn settings will be changed (to verizons) unless you load a custom built cricket rom and i am not sure if there is one for the tbolt.
apn's can typically be corrected/changed after the flash to allow MMS (picture messages) I will pm you with my number in case you need any more assistance.
Htc thunderbolt flashng
Hello to anyone out there who can hear me. I really need assistants on Flashing my HTC Thunderbolt. I purchased this phone off of Ebay. I went to three different locations and they want to charge me more for the flashing then I paid for the phone.. So unfair , However. I am requesting my viewers out there for some assistants for a step by step process on how I can do the flashing myself, to add my carrier Pageplus on my new wireless HTC Thunderbolt. Please assist, my old phone is holding on by a thread.. THANKS

SIM Unlock for US networks

I don't really know a lot about SIM related stuff, so I apologize...
Can the Rezound be SIM unlocked for US networks? The only thread I've found on another site says no but I think the repliers were referring to bootloader unlocking, not SIM. I am S-Off if that matters..just don't want to spend money on those sites that use IMEI to unlock, then get nowhere.

You don't need to SIM unlock it. Just put a different SIM in it and it'll work.

I read elsewhere that the sim had to be activated on a prepaid phone first. Not sure of that is correct but something to look into.

Just to be sure about the specifics.
HTC rezound on the leaked 4.03.605.2 ruu
You put in a T-Mobile sim card in the rezound
And you had voice calling, texting, mms, and data working?
You didn't need to modify anything in the phone, change settings, add a T-Mobile apn, root, or Rom the phone?
It will be nice if you will write a short "how to" for moving a rezound onto USA T-Mobile.
Also were there any frequency mode restrictions?
Data speed was good?
Thanks,
Howard
Thanks guys...will keep messing with it.
Verizon would not give me an unlock code because according to them the phone isn't capable yet.
Rezound is globally capable and works on other US carriers

The FCC ruling that Verizon is responding to by making the Rezound, Razr, Droid 4, etc. globally capable also opens the phones up for use by other carriers. This was "Big Red's" initial impetus for not unlocking the phones native features. So yes, you can use this phone on Tmobile's network.

Have you tried to enter T-Mobile's APN?
It won't save and show in the list.
It appears Verizon locked it to only use Verizon's APN?
when booted into the bootloader there is a simlock item on the menu.
if one has s-off and an appropriate config.dat file on the removable microSD card it is supposed to SIMM unlock, so one doesn't get that sim locked picture on the phone after inserting another vendor's SIMM card.
this information is from reading, not from doing it.
I'm running T-Mobile US (EDGE) just fine. 100%
Did nothing but put the simcard in the phone and flashed a GSM ROM (Downtown).
I did flash the latest radio and firmware with S-OFF but everything was working before hand.
I activated the Prepaid Simcard on T-Mobiles website and used the Rezounds IMEI without problems just added the right APN for MMS and DATA.

Thanks Tachi,
I plan to order a T-Mobile SIM card to play with on monday. it will have 10 minutes of talk time, but no data. I still have quite some time left on my Verizon contract before I switch to T-Mobile. This might also be a good option for my daughter.
First, I will see how this works on my stock rooted 4.03.605.2 system with htcdev unlock and s-off. If I get the SIM locked warning, I will try installing a hboot loadable SIM unlock config.dat file I got from a website - it has my IMEI inside it.
I don't know why, but I can not enter the T-Mobile apn in my system, even if I switch the phone into gsm mode.
Then I will try the downtown ROM, if it is ok to load it ontop of 4.03.605.2
thanks,
Howard

[Q] Flashed Thunderbolt to Page Plus--no voice calls?

I gave my Father my verizon Thunderbolt--he is using Page Plus for his service, so we needed to flash his phone.
It appears to be successfully flashed using CDMA and QPST, as far as I can tell. Phone does not have a SIM Card inside.
SMS-works GREAT. Receiving and sending texts just fine.
MMS- Not working. Not sure why.
Data-not even concerned. My father is not interested in the internet or anything else but calls and texts for that matter.
Calls-NOT WORKING! This has become such a thorn for me. When I go to make an outgoing call, it "freezes" in the dialing stage. When I try to call the thunderbolt, it gets a fast paced busy signal.
I've redone the flash several times, not sure what the problem is. I'm thinking it needs any generic SIM present to make calls--am I correct on that?
Thanks!
I had this same issue. How did you acquire your donor phone's info?
Just wanted to update--fixed the problem.
Put a T Mobile SIM card in, and it works PERFECTLY. The lock screen does state that it needs a SIM card, but when swiped unlocked, it works fine. Totally worth it!
Flashed HTC Thunderbolt
I have the HTC thunderbolt flashed to PagePlus with full talk, text, mms and 3G data using CDMA, QPST and DFS. And without using a donor. Also used a T-mobile non-activated sim card.
When I flashed the ThunderStick rom to my thunderbolt I no longer needed the sim card and got rid of the sim card message on the lock screen.

Save yourself the time and effort and get better service by using the Straight Talk GSM service. The Moto should already be unlocked. They have 2 different types of SIM cards, ones that use the AT&T towers and ones that use T-Mobile, so you can pick whichever works best in your area.

I purchased the $60 sim bundle and have successfully gotten voice and text to work on straight talk with my droid ultra. However no matter what I change the APN setting to I cannot get data to work. Let me know if you can think why this may be happening.

Straight Talk is notorious for having a variety of APN settings. It can be pretty annoying if you don't find the right one for your phone / update. Hop on wifi and try their app from the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tracfone.straighttalk.stdatasettings or this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tweakker

Verizon

Just want to confirm that the Moto G Power works on Verizon in the USA. I see it has been rooted and such so this looks like my new phone to replace my trusty Shamu.
Thank you,

Edit: I contacted Verizon via Twitter and they confirmed it will work on their network. C&P their reply...I appreciate the prompt response. Thanks for clarifying this information for me. I reviewed information internally and the Moto G Power XT2041 is compatible with our network. Does this help answer your question?

I recently purchased this phone unlocked through best buy. How/where can I download Verizon firmware to utilize wifi calling? Google, Verizon and Motorola have ran me on circles trying to solve this.
Bestbuy sells both the unlocked version and the Verizon version. Obviously the Verizon version would work with wifi calling, but what about the unlocked version?

I have the unlocked version and it doesn't come with Wi-Fi calling. It runs only the android 10 software and Google apps for the messages and phone. I found a setting for wifi messages (though I've been having trouble sending and receiving) but no setting in the phone app or the device settings.
I'm hoping if I can find the Verizon firmware to download and enable wifi calling.

Check under the advanced settings in the mobile network settings. If it's not there, then Verizon might be blocking it. Cricket does the same thing, but they'll sometimes enable it for you if you ask nicely.

I have checked under those settings and there is nothing listed as Wi-Fi calling. On VPN and Private DNA.
Would you be able to give a screen shot or write out what you click on to see where out phones differ? Baffling why my phone doesn't not have that option and Verizon has been no help in figuring it out.
I bought a g power phone for my son from Google fi, but activated it on Verizon. It works on verizon's network with a verizon sim. I havent been able to make wifi calling work, any suggestions? Looked in advanced setting under mobile connections no wifi calling choices. Any help would be greatly appreciated
I do not have this phone but i used unlocked phones (3 different ones) on Verizon. Currently a razer 2 on Verizon. If you do not buy a carrier locked phone from them you can not have wifi calling. That is one perk of buying the phone from them. They will let you have volte but thats about it. , No visual voicemail either.
I understand this might be a dumb question, but why is WiFi calling so important? I would have thought most people would use Hangouts, Zoom, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, or Duo. Any of those effectively provide WiFi calling.

This is for a older person who is not tech savvy. The person just wants to make calls and not have to setup any of those other apps, too complicated.

WiFi calling is very handy if you use your phone in places where you might not have reliable cell coverage but do have WiFi (e.g., a basement, etc.). I've never tried it, but that might include an international location where you can't use cell but have access to WiFi.
My carrier is Sprint, and I can verify that the WiFi calling function is present under Settings, Network & Internet, Mobile Network, Advanced, and nestled under "Calling"

It was in a brand new phone yes, but no I don't think it matters. Should be good to go. If anything just restart the phone.
It's also my understanding that Verizon does not allow any Advanced Calling features on a carrier unlocked phone. With my last phone, however (Z4), I was able to flash the VZW image to enable those features on my unlocked phone: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...ng-and-root-with-xt1980-3-on-verizon.3994025/
I just tried a similar process with the Moto G Power. I have a XT2041-4, which I have bootloader unlocked. I then downloaded the VZW rom from lolinet: https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/sofia/official/VZW/
and patched the boot.img using Magisk. I then followed this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/moto-g-power-flashing-guide.4159301/
to flash the VZW image (XT2041-7) onto my XT2041-4 (including the patched boot.img). Fingers crossed.... And bootloop. So I recovered to RETUS via LMSA. But I haven't given up hope yet. Maybe someone else can chime in.
Got it working...
