I was given an s4 by a friend today. It's hard bricked. NO download mode, NO recovery, NO response of any kind.... Other than Jtag is there a way I can fix this myself? Odd thing is the phone just died while out and about, and now nothing. No response of any kind, not from a wall charger, car charger, usb to wall charger... Zilch.
Is there any way I can at least get this into download mode? I know I can fix it from there, but I need some sign of life.
--Bought a brand new battery and that changed nothing. Still the same situation
Thanks.

Jtag is your only option. I have the equipment but have never had to use it (mine was hard bricked but my warranty company finally agreed to replace it). I'd be happy to try but there are other people out there that have jtag service and have done it before. The battery finally gave out. When hard bricked, the battery will not charge or even get warm.

I came across a bricked vibrant online and the guy said he'd swap my old phone with it for free.
He told me the phone was bricked because while he was rooting it, the computer died, and he doesn't have a computer anymore to fix it himself.
He told me the phone's battery is dead & that since it's in download mode, the battery can't be charged and you need a computer to do so. He said it should be an easy fix, but might require a DIY jig, but from his experience he hasn't come across a Vibrant that's needed a jig.
I said I can bring my laptop, and plug the phone in to see if it works.
He said it can take up to an hour for the phone to come on.
Is he making stuff up, and hiding the fact the screen is dead, or the phone is broken? Or is this all true?
When the battery dies, phone kicks out of download mode naturally.
When you plug in on a pc if phone is not recognized then you have a brick and you need jtagging to get fixed.
If your phone is old and you can find a jtag fixer for logical amount of money i would go for it, but before check for any water damage just to be sure.
I can tell you that Vibrants are very hard to brick. I dont know the nature of the deal (trade phones) but I would flash it with Odin first and if it works then take the phone. If they guy wants it back then charge him $50 for repair fee.
So him saying that the phone's dead battery might need an hour to turn on isn't true?
the story doesn't seem that far off.. i dunno. afaik charging the battery doesn't have anything to do with it being on download mode or not before/while/after it died but w/e.
Hi everyone,
Recently I got a SE x10min pro and since it was new I didn't even get to root it, so we could say that it was intact.
Two days ago, after having charged the phone for a whole night, the battery started draining really fast up to the point that it was fully drained (lasted less that 4hs). When I got home, I tried plugging it in so it could charge and I noticed that the led wasn't turning on. I tried both, the AC and the PC method and nothing. So, I would say that it's a brick
I cannot change it because it was a gift from abroad and before taking it to SE I thought that here I could find some help. Has this happened to anyone? Is the cell really dead?
Please help :S
BTW I have tried reading different posts but I couldn't find a solution for this because I tried pushing the back key and plugging it to the pc and nothing. I also tried pressing the power ker+center key and nothing.
Have you tried to plug it into the mains charger and leave it on charge for some time ? ive seen people posting about similar problems before and one of the fixes is to leave it charging for quite a while
By now it has been charging from the AC for almost 2 days non stop and no changes
Thanks anyways
Omething obviously fried the battery.
Try a new one?
Hi, thanks for the answer. I though about the battery being the problem and I am going to try it out asap but shouldn't the device turn the led on anyways? I just don't want to spend money on a new battery for my brick.
Do you know about that?

Maybe i got the same problem, about the LED turning on.... It might need a little bit of your battery, since it´s dead it can´t turn on the LED. I found a couple of threads on other forums talking about connecting our battery to the wires of an old charger, some kind of a electroshock

That could work on some fusions, but be carefull.
have you guys tried diconnecting the batt...?
Yes, i have unplugged the battery connector, connecting usb and repluging it while pressing the Back button, also i've tried plugging it after a few minutes rest, neither work.
How could i know if my battery is dead?

A though nut to crack.
Tried leaving it for a few hours charge?
Turned off.
That helped me once.
I´ll try to find out what is what in the connector in terms of + and - .
To measure it .
I leave it charging all night, i've tried with another USB cable and doesn´t work. Maybe i will go to a service center on a few days... But i wanted to do it by myself
Sorry dude.

Got a new then?
Expensive?
Got a link?
Sorry, no link, i went to an underground service center, they said my battery was definitely dead and they sold me another Mini's battery, from a broken phone, for $25 USD. I was happy. BUT TODAY I GOT THE SAME PROBLEM!! MY PHONE IS DEAD AGAIN!! I suppose there is another problem that burn, kill, overcharge or something else my battery. Got no warranty with S.E. I don´t know what to do.

That is some bad news.
Could be that you´r charger just as you say is overcharging.
Hello,
my GSII does not take any voltage from any source (USB port or the charger) therefore can not charge it.
I have already bought a genuine replacement battery from my Samsung and already bought a USB board (thought it was the plug on the GSII) and made the replacement. When the battery came, it still had about 50%, the phone booted up just fine, never was able to charge it, after that i always get the temperature icon, even the temperature is not very high. The same battery also did not charge on a GSII friends phone.
This is a very strange symptom, any help or ideas would came in hand.
Thanks,
chapas

Could be a hardware issue.
If you are still on warranty, go to the store/service center and ask for a warranty replacement of the battery and/or the phone.
Good luck !

Thanks for the answer, i'm out of luck, it was an eBay buy.
Just to add more info, i have a mains charger 5V, 1A. I've used it for months, i know that the GSII takes 0.7A but it is capped (read this on this forum), so i used this one for convenience.
I don't know if it has something to do with this.

Hi. I was just browsing on my rooted galaxy s2. Suddenly the whole screen froze. It would not do anything, so i decided to take the battery out. When i put it back in, it turned on and was stuck on the "samsung galaxy s2 i9100" screen. So i decided to take the battery out and try again. This time it wouldnt turn on or charge. When i plug it in, it just gets hot, but there is no sign of life. I tried holding the power button and entering recovery and download mode. But its not recognised. I dont think its the battery because when i plugged it into a pc without the battery, it still wasnt recognised.
Before this happened, i was running the solo launcher and i was using a kindle paper charger for it.(first time i used this).
Please help me find a way to fix it without jtag. Usb jig won't work, its totally not functioning to anything except getting hot when plugged in.
Signs of life:
Gets hot when plugged in.
sadly bro,but it sounds like a motherboard is dead
if you have access to usb jig - atleast try it
if no joy - motherboard replacement

oh ok thanks, i am not under warranty, so could i just send it to a local repair store, or do i need to send it to samsung. If so, how much would it cost?
sent it to your local repair shop - it will be less expensive than samsung's service
you can also buy the mobo at ebay etc,and pay only for the procedure
idk about the price, mail the repair shop about that.
USB ports
When my phone was newer I had a lot of usb port trouble, overheating, failing to charge properly, even apparent bricking. I heard there was an issue with this port. I narrowed it down by sticking a small object into the USB port and levering the pin slot back up to the middle (preventing the short).
That fixed it for a while. Also fluff can create a short, so blowing it out can fix it.
It finally failed again, so I bought a $5 piece from ebay, watched a youtube video and fixed it properly.
So, try firstly blowing out the usb port, then using a toothpick to push it around a little. If that fixes your phone then all good
Yeah, that'll fix it
It happened today; my phone was standing still on my desk, I used some hour before, I took it up and it won't turn on.
Oh, I said, probably out of battery; I connected the charger, nothing; tried removing battery, nothing.
Battery is somethingless than 3 volts, phone gives no signal of life.
Any help, please?
So logic says you try another battery. And if that doesn't work you can try a jig, though don't expect this boot the phone into download mode, it's much more likely a jig won't work.
Then it's a service centre or local mobile repair shop job, assuming you don't have the necessary skills/knowledge to diagnose & fix it yourself. If you do, then I imagine you wouldn't be posting here & would already know what's wrong with it.
Not a lot anyone here can say or do if a phone dies like that.
