Hello,
I was running cm 10.2 and decided to upgrade to cm 11 nightly cm-11-20140707-NIGHTLY-i9300.zip.
Problem is the upgrade failed and i have been trying to recover my phone since.
Current status:
I can boot into recovery mode.
I can boot into download mode.
i can boot my device with an installed ROM but it wont load past the first boot.
I have tried:
Roms:
CM 11
CM 10
SlimBean
SlimKat
Installers:
ADB sideload
ADB push to sdcard and then install
Cyanogenmod installer.
Clockworkmod:
Newest Version
6.0.4.6
Older version that i had installed
All with the same result a rom that can't complete its first boot.
Im out of idea's at the moment and wondering if you guy's could provide me with a new course of action.
solution of samdroid did the trick of getting a rom installed.

Im not the most experienced guy out there but:
Visit the offical CM11 Thread
Then download the custom recovery thats shown there (this will only work for cm11
flash that custom recovery
then do a full wipe
reboot back to recovery
install a new cm11 rom
That /should/ if your issue, (try it without the full wipe first)
[from personal experience while upgrading from cm9 to 10]

Hello all,
First of all I want to say I'm pretty new to flashing ROMs etc.
Currently I'm at stock 4.3 Jellybean and I want to flash my SGS3 to the new CM 11 ROM.
I rooted my phone following this tutorial: vvvvvv.telefoonrooten.nl/samsung/samsung-galaxy-s3-root/ (sorry if its in Dutch, but it uses the CF-Root-SGS3-v6.3 and Odin).
After I rooted I copied both the CM11 ROM and GAPPS to my external SD, I went to recovery and tried to install the new custom ROM but I got an error (status 7) and it was aborted.
Also if I try to reboot it won't boot normally as it should be but it goes back to recovery mode automatically...
I fixed to get back to Jellybean by flashing the stock rom (unrooting?) it via Odin.
Anyone else got the exact same problem as I do and knows a solution to be able to flash CM 11?
Thanks in advance,
Steelbear

please read the thirst post in a rom/kernel/whatever thread. and maybe if you havent done it already you should also read the stickies in general section.
FAQ (Read before post !!)
- If you obtain Error 7 when you tried to install ROM in CWM or TWRP
Install the latest version of CMW or TWRP

BTW latest philz touch recovery works too
Since you went back to stock and you already know how to root, I suggest you go to Play Store and download ROM Manager to help you install latest CWM recovery on your device.
Or you can simply go to CWM website, pick the version of the recovery for your phone and flash it via Odin.
Hope it helps.

Indeed it worked! I found it out myself yesterday. Went to the CWM site and downloaded the latest version (6.0.4.4.) and flashed it through Odin. But thanks for your input anyways (to all who replied) !
An alternative solution that I often use is to open the Updater Script in META-INF folder in the ROM's zip and delete first lines, where it gets device model as property.
Obviously it's an UNSAFE operation (because that lines avoid to install ROMs of other phone on mine) but when I'm sure that ROM I've downloaded is for my phone I do it and it works
I would like to update my current CM 10.1 (20140112-NIGHTLY-p4wifi) setup either to JB4.3 Ganbarou ROM or KK4.4 OMNI ROM. But with no success.
After flashing the ROMs as described in their OPs and rebooting the tablet, it hangs forever at the initial Samsung boot screen.
I also replaced CWM 6.0.3.6 with TWRP 2.6.3.0, but this didn't help.
After restoring my ROM backup, CM10.1 starts up again perfectly.
What am I doing wrong?

make wipe cache+system+data
flash ics bootloader
flash ics modem
flash rom
flash gapps super su if needed(ganbarou have it)
Thanks for helping.
Reflashing ics bootloader didn't work, either.
It looks like I have to stay with CM 10.1.
Hi i kind of bricked my Mediapad 7 when tring to update Cyangen 10.2 to Cyangen 11. Need some help how to proceed.
First i booted into TWRP and tried to install the file
S7-301u V100R002C232B005 ICS Android 4.0.3 General Version.zip
to go back from Cyano 10.2 to stock rom 4.0.3. But this failed.
So i directly installed
cm-11-20140118-UNOFFICIAL-hws7300u.zip
Installation went OK. No, i didn't do a backup of the installed 10.2.
After reboot, the device is not booting but always going back to TWRP. What can i do?
What i tried in TWRP so far:
Reinstalling cm-11-20140118-UNOFFICIAL-hws7300u.zip
Reinstalling cm-10.1-20130526-UNOFFICIAL-hws7300u.zip
Wipe Cache
Factory Reset
Nothing helps. Always booting into TWRP v2.3.2.3 :crying:
Thanx for any help how to resolve this!
Forgot: During install of firmware there is a log-line:
E. Unknown File System: 'datamedia'
no slash between data and media

I had the problem of not being able to reinstall a stock rom as well.
How EXACTLY did you do it for the stock one?
I've also found out from a CM developer that stock roms can't be installed with the custom recoveries like TWRP or CWM.
Which is a nice thing to know since there doesn't seem to be any info on the forums about that.
Hi,
I got an upgrade notification and approved it from my device, and it installed CM11 properly.
however the performance is significantly reduced, and battery drain is much higher - and my computer no longer recognize the device - so I'd like to revert back to stable version 10.1.3
I read various forums, and saw that a lot of people had problems with the downgrade, so I'd appreciate some expert's advice on the steps I intend to do:
download CM 10.1.3 zip to the device
download gapps version which seems compatible: gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip to the device
boot to recovery mode - reset to factory default \ dalvik
flash the CM zip
flash the gapps zip
does that seems ok?
do I also have to flash the kernel ?
I'm afraid that if something will go wrong I'll be unable to fix it - as the device is no longer detectable to the computer (I tried several).
thanks!
So i wanted to install custom rom(cyanogenmod 14.1) on my S3 device I realized that my device has already CWM (v5.5.0.4 :: CF -v1.5 ). I can flash cyanogenmod 14.1 with no issues but I can't flash gapps. After installing gapps, I get a lot of errors when I boot(Setup wizard has stopped). I tried 2 different versions of gapps(aroma, nano) both of them didn't work. I started to think that my CWM version is the issue. I want to flash another Custom Recovery like newer version of CWM of TWRP but as I said my charging port is broken. I just want my device to have android nougat with google apps. I hope I can find a solution
Download the TWRP App from Google play and install. You could also search for a flashable TWRP recovery und Update within TWRP to latest version by flashing the .img file.
The problem wont be the recovery. Make sure gapps is the correct one for your device. Check the software versions and cross reference them against Apkmirror.com.
Beamed in by telepathy.
That's a problem of Cyanogenmod 13 / 14.
Wipe your Cache/System/Data Partitions and reflash Cyanogenmod 14.1. Then don't boot up, you've to install the gapps package directly after that.
Make sure that you have downloaded the ARM 7.1 gapps-package.
You can flash twrp or stock rom from 'mobile odin'. Or you can download flashable twrp.zip....but flashing stock ROM requires additional download
I solved the problem. The problem was recovery and i knew it. I downloaded the apk of TWRP App from their official website. It worked flawlessly. After that i Flashed Cyanogenmod 14.1 then gapps with the latest version of TWRP and perfect! Everything works without any problem. I hope this answer is helpful for the other people having the same issue.
