Suddenly my internal is write protected - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Been flashing roms for years. i use Omega rom on my Galaxy Note 3. When i flashed the latest rom, my internal SD card is all of a sudden write protected and i can't change it. i doubt it is a rom problem, which is why i am posting it here. None of my apps can save info.
The only difference this time i flashed is that i did a full wipe. Maybe i had this problem before but don't remember....
i have searched and i have found other people with this problem... but the solutions i did find were just... weird and didn't work or pertain to my phone.
Also, under permissions it is RWXRWX, which doesnt sound write protected to me.
EDIT: Figured out the problem, but not the solution. For some really odd reason, dropbox screwed up the folders when syncing using dropsync. Still have no idea hy this happened and how to fix it as i cannot delete the folders it created/sync'd
EDIT 2: Everything fixed accept six axis folder in sdcard/data. it cannot be deleted, renamed, or have anything added to it

Any GTab ROMS that won't delete image files.

Hi all, I am currently running Vegan Gingerbread 2.3.3 and it has a habit of deleting most if not all of the images I copy to the tablet or the micro SD. I can view them and copy them but if I put it on sleep mode or turn it off and then on again, when I come back to the image files they are all gone.
Is there a fix for this or is there another ROM out there that won't do this at all? When doing some research on this forum and other forums, I have come across threads saying that this was an issue for Android but this was about 6 months ago and now I am revisiting the issue.
Thanks,
Afrowookie
I used VEGanTAB 7.1 before, it is a nice rom and having no issue with losing apps or files. Give it a try.
http://vegantab.gojimi.com/
This is a known issue on the gTab. Search .nomedia
I have tried the .nomedia solution before which didn't help any. Maybe I did it wrong. However I will try Vegan 7.1
Unfortunately 7.1 has the same issue. .nomedia will prevent the folder from being scanned and prevent the image files from being deleted, however it will also prevent Gallery from displayiñg them.

[Q] Google Maps Android API, missing?

This has been bothering me lately. When I open my Instagram (using xperia ray latest Gingerbread stock ROM), and go to "Photo Maps", a dialog box appears saying "Photo Maps requires that the Google Maps Android API is installed on your device
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling both Google Maps and Instagram, I restarted my device too. But it doesnt solve the problem.
I tried checking /system/framework/com.google.android.maps.jar , I thought I lost this file but the file is there..
This is a rare problem and I only found 2 search results on Google about this problem, and both were found on XDA forum. One had his problem solved by placing this .jar file there. The other one tried placing the .jar file but no luck.
It's bothering me. Because I think it will affect other application that uses google maps. But I'm not sure. And I don't want to reinstall the whole ROM because I have partitioned my SD card, put many stuff in it, I dont want to start it all over just because of this small problem.
Thank you very much in advanced.
I am having the same problem, but it has caused me to realize that I cannot download most things that have a main function that utilises the gmaps API... I'm running a CM9 fork, though, so I expect that to be the cause. Furthermore, I tried to replace the files and gapps installation through recovery, it yields no changes. I see no new files, which is odd imo... Placing the JAR through a file manager and rebooting doesn't change anything for me either. Would love a followup because I too have seen the threads Fun is talking about but I have also seen at least a dozen on here that have gone unanswered
yes. Someone has to got to have the solution. So bump.
bump... i guess? I havent been able to fix this. Althoug a simple flash will fix this, I'm curious that we can fix this.
Still having this issue myself.
Running CM10.1 on my Galaxy SII (i9100P), although its not just with my current ROM that I'm having the issue. Tried refladhing ROMs and GAPPS but no joy. Countless data/cache wipes have done notjing to fix it. Also tried the.jar solution but did nothing.
Really annoys me that I can't find a solution.
No one any ideas on what this could be?

[Q] serious problem with CYANOGEN 10.1

hi guys.
sorry im posting this here and not in the official thread but because im new i cant post there.
i have a BIG problem. yesterday i had a problem with files on my DCIM library on my device storage. i could see them with the built in file explorer but when i connected the device to my pc - the files wasnt there!
i looked for a solution and when i didnt found one i tried upgraing my ron to the last one available (10.1-20130107-NIGHTLY-I9100). sincs then my gmail acount jas been erased on the device! when i try to add it under "+add acount" i only have an option to add CORPORATE, EMAIL, FACEBOOK or SKYDRIVE - no GMAIL option.
what can i do? please help, all my contacts are on the gmail account :crying:
btw - the files issue didnt resolve itself and i found another issue. i tried to make a screenshot, the device took it (made the animation and sound) but couldnt find the file itself in the device storage.
after flashed rom, did you flashed latest gapps (20121212)? for gallery issue, did you clear data of gallery and media storage under setting-application? dont forget to reboot after clear data
thanks for the reply. yes, i just realized that the nighly update changed my android version from 4.1.2 to 4.2
im installing this now, hoping it will work.
will update after the install - thanks again :good:
update - ne gapps solved the problem - thanks!
omg we have an outbreak!
the cm10.1 noobs overcome the borders of their thread and will now spread across the whole forum...
...we are all doomed :fingers-crossed:
sry mate i dont really like bashing but sometimes there is no other way:
- people please READ the instructions in the op of the rom you are installing!
(not installing gaps is NOT a serious problem... its a standard procedure with every cm installation and mentioned in the instructions...)
- read some stickies about your device and android!
- do not play arround with nightlies if you dont know what you are doing!
(man this is every-day changing code far from stable)
its just a pitty to see the forum loosing quality every day because 90% of people having problems wich could be solved by reading the instructions of the OpeningPost of the threads...
sry again if i sound rude, it is nothing personal but i'm hating the idea how xda-developers looses his "developers" level
personaly i wish you all best and much fun learning here but please start with the theory, by reading, then jump in the deep waters, by flashing. :good:
regards and peace

About file issue exactly the same thing happened with me today, I lost all my images and videos from both the storage and can't see them in any file explorer or at PC
I don't know what to do I have changed several roms.
Must be a virus or something I don't really know what happened, will try to recover files.

[Q] Phone Storage Issue

G'day guys. First I would like to apologize just incase this has already been posted. I found a few threads in relation to storage issues but none of them seemed to have the same problem as mine. If this has already been discussed please post the link to the thread here.
I have an issue with my Samsung Galaxy S III I9300. Originally I had this rooted and flashed with a custom rom (I can't remember which one it was about 12 months ago). It was running fine. But I recently decided to remove the SD card as I wish to use it in another device. So I copied all the data from the SD card onto my PC, and then I copied the data from my PC to the phone storage after I had removed the SD card from the phone.
Again the phone worked fine. But then one morning after taking my phone off charge later in the day at work I tried to go into the gallery and it would come up with the message in the below screen shot.
s28(dot)postimg(dot)org/vk4exjdlp/Screenshot_2014_01_06_19_53_26.png (sorry for having to do that XDA won't allow new members to post links/images)
I tried a few things to fix it but I only have an intermediate grasp of features and hacks ect ect. So I decided the best thing to do was to flash back to a completely standard rom. Which I did just an hour ago (Using the I9300XXEMC3_I9300NEEEMC1_I9300XXEMB6_HOME.tar relased from samsung flashed via Odin 3.07)
However even after this factory flash I still have this issue! I can't access the gallery and I can't save images at all. If anybody could help with this issue it would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe because you have removed your external SD card your camera app is trying to store images to it but it can't because it's not there... See if you can change in camera settings where it stores your images to internal instead of external.
The phone automatically changed the settings to storage device when the SD card was removed. Never the less I doubled checked and indeed it is set to device.
It's not just the camera tho. Nothing will save. Screenshots, downloads, camera ect ect. I can't open the gallery app at all.
Also I just noticed a secondary problem. When I open up the camera app I can see everything fine inside the app but when I go to take a photo I doesn't save it (which I already knew, part of the original problem) but I just noticed when I tried to close the camera app after taking a photo it wouldn't let me! It would not close. All the setting tabs greyed out so I couldn't go into any of the menus and I had to force restart the phone to be able to use it again!!!!

Clear all data and freeze the one that's causing problems and backup and uninstall and use another..If you like stock camera try one of the modded ones in themes thread...
This thread can be closed now.
I'm still not exactly sure what the problem was or specifically what fixed it. But last night i decided to root the phone again and install a custom rom (I installed Android Revolution HD 40.0) and after it was flashed everything works as normal.
So sorry if you happen to have the same problem as me and stumbled across this thread at a later date. I don't know how to fix the problem but apparently a root and custom rom works wonders. lol.
Thanks for the help anyway tallman43.

Phone factory-resetted itself. Some data missing.. Still shows 12/16 GB used.

Phone: GT i9300 (aka international Galaxy S3)
Storage: 16GB
Firmware: I9300XXUGNA8 (4.3)
Rooted: Yes
Recovery: ClockWorkMod
Bought: Abought September 2012
My Problem:
When i left the house this morning everything was working properly with my phone but when i took it out of my pocket at work
i had to see that the phone had done a factory reset all by itself and the google playstore , playservices and all other gapps
are missing. Also apps that would come with the firmware are no existant.
I did a bit of reaserch and found that this could be related to an insane chip problem where some chip, related to the memory is in
a bad state since production. It was stated that some phones died to sudden death in just a few weeks but also this
problem was fixed by samsung with android 4.1.2 onwards.
I also used a app called eMMC Check to see if my memory is defect, but it did a memory test and said it was ok, but also stated that i have
this insane chip.
Further i had a problem with apps suddenly deleting themselfs/simply disappering once or twice in the last one or two month.
This could de fixed by deleting the contents of the app folder (where its installed) and renaming it. Afterwards you could reinstall the app
through the playstore. Beforehand the app would still be shown as installed in playstore, when accessing through a browser. and also
is ore are all the apps i had on my phone before it resetted it today. But i cant find them in any directory i can access on my phone
or through adb.
I don't know if or how this could be related but I'm assuming it is.
Something to mention would be that the phone shows under storage-information that about 12GB out of 16GB are
which would aproimately be the data i had on my phone before. But as mentioned i cant't find it anywhere though dile explorer or
adb.
Also it shows about 8.2 GB of other data beeing on my phone but when i click on it it shows only a few megabyte of data.
As if some Data is hidden/occupying storage but not accesible for the OS.
I want to know if there is any possibility to rescue any data or if its lost or
if anyone had a similar problem before.
I hope you can understand what my problem is and that i have provided enough detail for you.
If anything comes to my mind or you have a question i will update the post/you can simply ask.
Please keep in mind that english isn't my main/first language.
Thanks in advance.

Sadly this doesn't really fit my problem. The only folder i had in data/media was clockworkmod.
I moved it into /0 and restarted my phone but nothing has changed.
I'm thinking that the data that is occupying my sd card is out of range of the operating system .. could that potentially be ?

Yes it probably is..
Are you looking in the right place did you see
0
legacy
obb
folders as well. If not I think you may belooking in the wrong place these folders must be there try using a root explorer and look carefully through your system root files not your ext sd card.

I'm 100% sure i'm in the right direction (/data/media/) and there only seeing the thre folder (0, legacy, obb).
I found under data/clipboard some old clips (pictures).
And i possibly found the issue..
I have a lost+found folder which is 8.14 GB big .. I don't know to much about lost and found.
just that files end there when the os doesn't know what to do with them.
So any chance for recovering data ?
I think everyfolder has # and a number so i think i have to look in all of them to find out whats left of my data.
