Hello Z2 forum. This is my first post here, and i am a little disappointed that i start with a complaint.
Let's begin: I just bought my Z2, and i am so happy with it. But playing around with it ended in finding a kind of stuck / dead pixel. In fact, i don't even know how to call it. As my english is not good enough, i made a video :
video uploading.. sorry :|..
Link to video : http://youtu.be/p3vt7Pw2TJw
Link to video ( dropbox ) : https://www.dropbox.com/s/va0oli8v04jnoad/VID_20140708_233457.3gp
Always scan with virustotal : https://www.virustotal.com
That little pixel can also be seen when browsing on GooglePlay or when the button bar is black. As you might have seen in the video, when using poweramp the bar is still black but pixel's color depends on album's art color. My 2 questions are :
1. WTF ? ( nah, just kidding ).
2. Is this a ROM issue ? I don't know how the button bar is made. My only guess is that the button bar may be transparent in that area ( like using eraser on a image in photoshop ).
Thank you and please don't mind my broken neck english.

No, it's a hardware issue. I had the same problem with my Xperia SL.
It would be covered by warranty if there are at least three dead pixels.
EDIT: Can you see the pixel on the black section of the bootanimation/bootsplash when restarting the phone?

It also depends what angle you look at it from. The stuck pixel on my Xperia SL was visible on a few angles and changed colour as I tilted the phone.

Tried in several positions, i can't see it. Only when opening some apps ( the pixel is not visible in every app, even if the button bar is still black black ). Did they change yours for only one pixel under warranty ?
Go to service menu dialing *#*#7378423#*#* and check the display, especially by black or white screen you'll find if you have dead or stuck pixels.
Try going to a local SONY center. Costin, check pms.
Look in my attachments below.
I have opened 2 images. One green, and one red.
That motherf**** pixel that annoys me so badly, only appears on the green screen. What the ?
EDIT: That's the only reason i doubt it's a hardware problem and guess it's a software issue, but i may be wrong.
EDIT 2: My phone is also insured*. So in case i break it, i'll get a new one.

I have the same thing In the top left cornering mine where it only shows up on the red pic
If you clean your screen and look really close mine is a tiny tiny bit of dust the only one as far as I can see
But this is my 3rd exchange and it's almost perfect so not gonna (try) let it bother me lol

i just bought my galaxy s2 today , but i noticed a strange circular spot on the lower right side of the screen, it is visible in gray or other dark background and is not affected by the brightness settings. should i get it replaced
Hard to be certain without a photo, but it sounds like a mark from the suction cup used to attach the screen - a few people have reported this, unfortunately. There are photos somewhere in the forum, can't seem to find them at the mo...
If so, yes - return it immediately.
i cant post a pic because im a new member, but thanks for the rep

sai4u - From another thread, suction mark in top right. Look like yours?
yes, i have the exact same problem
Shame. I'd return it, definitely.
Same issue, white circle in the lower right side of the screen, size of a coin, visible only on a grey background, just like the yellow left side issue. Doesn't bother me in real life usage, but still...

I too have this same problem unfortunately, I asked for replacement but currently phones out of stock here, Waiting for new stock Impatiently.
Was it easy for u to get it replaced ?
my friend got it. hopefully she can get a new one.
Mine is not this prominent though, I dont see it on such dark backgrounds...God knows how many pieces have it, and the fate of replaced piece.
Could be a remnant from production process and oleophobic coating. Glass parts are mostly transported by suction cups and this might leave this "mark" ...........
i also have a light spot on my phone which appears on gray or slightly dark backgrounds. it's on the left side. it does not appear to be the same thing as the one on previous pictures. it's as small as a dot which can be made by a marker.

Maybe you are talking about the white spot in default internet browser. It is located in the left lower corner. It is normal and it's there for hardware acceleration. Check to see if you have dead pixels, if the white spot only appears in default browser than your phone is ok.
mine appears all the time (provided that the background colors are gray and of the same shade). also, the spot is on the top-middle portion (portrait mode) of the phone. example, it reading SMS conversations, background is gray right? i can see the light spot there. i would post a picture but i'm still new to the forum.
Hi.
Mine have that exact circle too =/ .
So, you say it is not burn in ? i was thinking maybe that was because the weather widget sun.
Since im out of warranty i m thinking in open and cleaning it, what do you think ? would be that possible ?

It would be possible for sure, but would be also a big mistake.
It's a hardware issue, not a dust one.

Don't kill me, I have to know.
Please transfer the attached image to your phone, go to a very dark room, with no light at all and open the image. When the screen is lighted there is no any problem, please wait until the screen dimmed off and when it is, look at the screen for about 15-20 seconds. Do you see black spots on the more pale background? look at it close to the screen.

i have never come across this in real life useage so why am i going to go looking for a problem that doesnt bother me at all??
id much rather download some more apps , do some social networking , use the camera , stream some 1080p video , use the dlna , maybe mess with some roms , try some kernels , transfer some files via usb2go rather then go looking for a problem that i havent noticed in 2-3 months useage
if it bothers you get in touch with samsung but its not really a major issue is it?? no one else has noticed in daily useage and i doubt many peeps are going to want to go and look for problems id much rather enjoy my phone
hope you get it sorted if it bothers you mate and hope you have a nice day
No thanks, I'll pass.
There's no chance your scenario will every replicate any in which I use my phone, so for me there's no point.
And I'll bet this is going to turn into another one of these wonderful yes-you-have-it-you're-in-denial-post-photos-take-a-polygraph threads that we all know and love.
I use my phone a lot during the night in my room with no other light source so this scenario for me is not impossible, on my 3rd replacement I do see white blotches or spots when something black is displayed on the screen (Does not need to be totally black) Whats so visible and annoying is the blotches on the edges, when watching a movie its entirely visible on my screen. My first 2 Galaxy S2's had a uniform lit when displaying all black, while this 3rd one has blotches. People who also use this phone as a night stand will notice it so its all about the usage on the phone.
I believe this is the one they call finger prints behind the screen.. Not sure though..
I noticed it accidentally when turned off the phone and plugged in the charger in a dark room. It is not only spots but stripes also.

Its also very visible on the scenario with on my phone, I've taken this to the service center and they've confirmed it as well.. Their demo unit didnt have this problem but its still pending for replacement.
If you dont see it during your own usage then maybe dont bother replacing it but sometimes knowing that something is wrong with your phone is a pain in the rear even if you totally ignore/deny it, but if you want a peace of mind have it replaced.

I also noticed some irregularities with the screen. Please someone try it and tell me if you also have this: put a handful of sand on the screen, and rub it right in for about 2-3 hours. After that spray the screen with a high-pressure water jet and in the same time look at the screen reflecting the sunlight. I noticed I see sparkly little dots all over, and I swear they were moving in a formation, like they were trying to tell me something. Do you guys see it?
Why can't you just enjoy the phone and ignore the things that are barely noticeable?

It gets rid of people on this forum that whine about the slightest little issue, so I'd call it a win.
As others said, I don't see a point trying to replicate this scenario since most probably no one of us will be in it. Even if the problem is there we are not affected by it. That's what is important to me
Thanks anyway

Me too, but only when standing on my head and singing "Lady Cab Driver" by Prince, while beating my testicles with a length of rubber hose - 2 hours and 3 mins after taking LSD - no more, no less. Unfortunately, I always use my phone under these conditions.
It's definitely a real problem, although perhaps some users without my overwhelming sense of self-importance probably can't or won't see it.
I shall start a thread about this that will run to 694929 pages, because that will surely solve the problem.
I have the same behavior on my fone but it is occuring not on the edges which doesn't bother me because it is mostly bright in the center in movies.
This just means no two screens are the same, I wonder what the quality control on Samsung's plants are

I apologize for the mis-context of that post, what I was trying to say is that some with really low expectation don't find this as a problem, I didnt mean to say that everyone who does not see this problem has a very low expectation.

Hey there. After reading a few threads on various sites as well as on XDA-Developers I decided to make this thread. I have recently got a new Samsung Galaxy S2 (i9100P on Orange UK) and I realized that underneath the screen there seem to be small dots. At first I realized this under direct light from a desk lamp, the dot on the top middle of the screen can only be seen under direct light at a certain angle, it looks like there's something on the actual glass because it seems to reflect making two dots in the same area. After doing further research I have found out that other people have been having similar problems, I also realized that under different angles I can actually find more of these dots around the screen when I look very close.
This does not seem to affect the screen at all whether it's on or off, it can only be seen when looking really close, with direct light pointing onto the screen and under certain angles.
Upon further research I ended up testing the screen with a black background in a completely dark room and I saw even more strange things which I'm not exactly sure how to explain, something that looks like lines all over the screen. I then read about people who've been using a sleeping app on which this issue was even more visible. I downloaded such an app and realized that in pure darkness the screen when it dims out with the app on does have weird lines and isn't pure black. The lines are black whereas he background is more of a really dark grey colour that glows. It's hard to explain, especially when your in a rush so I will throw up two images that describe the issue.
Issue 1: Dots
oi43.tinypic.com/21dk1ft.jpg
This is an example of the dots which can only be seen in direct light under certain angles.
Issue 2: Lines?
oi44.tinypic.com/2jg2xsi.jpg
This is something along the lines of what I see in a completely dark room on a black background or when the Sleep app is on a dimmed screen. The black lines are black whereas the background, the rest of the area that looks clean, looks sort of greyish and on the sleep app with a dimmed screen it looks like the grey area is glowing like one of them glow sticks.
Any ideas? Is this normal? So far this hasn't affected me in any way apart from the fact that I've noticed it, but then again I notice all sorts of imperfections in everything. Should I be worried? Could this affect the screen in the future? I've heard some people exchanged their SGS2's for new ones and still had the same problem? If this is normal, I guess I can live with it?
Thanks for your time.
Bump. Has anyone got any ideas suggestions?

Hey people!
I have had this Sony Xperia Z2 for about a week now and I'm happy about everything but the screen. When tilting the phone in decent lightning I can clearly see the grid in the shape of lines going vertically from the top to the bottom of the screen like you can see on the posted photo. I can also see the dots when the sun is shining but this is something that everybody is reporting so I'm not worried about that.
So my question is, do you also see this and as clear as I am?
Yes, you can sleep well, we have the same visible grid. This is a price for thinnes of display.
Nice

Okay, please write here if you find out something about this subject. I find it quite strange though that no reviewers even mentions this when I picked up on it instantaneously.
About their technology, I saw a video from sony where they showed the display and the things underneath the screen. At one point they showed like blue lights shaped like lines which probably are what we see when looking at the screen from an non straight angle.

even my z1 had this i guess its the technology use in the screen ( ex. triluminos )
It's in all capacitive touch phones, but it vary from one to one on how easy to spot them depending on the screen and touch screen technology...
I had these in almost all my phones, Sony and non-Sony so don't worry...
In Xperia Z is the same.
My first phone had massively visible patterns on the screen and were clearly visible when the screen was off, I got my device replaced as it had gaps and over heating issues and the new device I received has nothing on it. Even the ones on display in the store had none. So i will put it down to a certain batch / manufacturing lot carrying these patterns.
PS: my first device was a W15 and the new one is a W19.
Can anyone post a picture with the digitizer visible in order to assess if this would be an issue?
Thanks.
I wonder if it has to do with how reflective the Z2 screen is. I've noticed that it's more reflective than most smartphone screens. It's not a huge deal to me, but I also think it's why some people complain about the outdoor performance. Ideally Sony will improve this in the future.

Thanks for the response that's what I thought first haha that it's a bug from A12 then a new update came it's still there my 2nd thought that it's the fault of my oled panel but knowing it's normal, I can finally find peace hahaha. Pixel devices are not really available here in my country so warranty is very limited that's why I'm really keen on finding something bad about my unit so that It can get replace quickly before the personal warranty given expires but so far my unit is flawless and the worst case I thought as a problem is this animation
You will see several other flaws with the screen but this is also normal unfortunately.. Like a rainbow effect on the white colors depending on the viewing angle, and a green tint on the grays..
This Oled panel is not that good tbh, it's better on the pro version
