[Q] At&T Lg G2 can't access recovery mode - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I just got a new G2 with at&t that came installed with kitkat (g2 D800.)
Yesterday, the day I got it, there was an OTA to D80020u which had the Knock Code security feature. Anyways I'm trying to root my phone so I can add a volume mode to boost the headset volume levels. I was able to root the device using this method:
[forum won't let me post outside links but it was a andromod website with directions on rooting a g2 D80020u kitkat with IOroot script tested for 25r1 if that helps at all]
So yay its rooted, superuser permission and all. So I go to install the volume mode I was looking into and attempt to restart the phone in recovery mode by holding down the volume down + Power button until LG logo pops up then release and hold again.
Unfortunately now it won't load recovery mode so I'm unable to flash stuff onto the phone (at least to my knowledge). Instead of recovery mode it shows a black screen with white text saying:
[440] Fastboot mode started
[550] ---reset---
[560]---portchange---
[630]---reset---
[640]---portchange---
[740]fastbootrocessing commands
and thats hit. It wont do anything while in this mode but I can hold down the Power button and restart the phone and have it boot up like normal and run. I can access download mode by pressing Volume up while device is powered off.
Am I going to have to restock to stock? or is there some easy fix?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: Sorry guys, total newb here. I derped pretty hard on this. Rooted the device and didn't install a custom recovery before trying to access recovery mode. Went with Teamwin and everything works as intended. Sorry for the waste of a post.

Bricked S2?

recently soft bricked my new AT&T S2.I have clockwork recovery installed (4.0.0.2), and the only buttons that work are home (goes back to the first menu), volume up/down, and power to hide the menus. I can't select anything at all, it seems like I have the international version of the recovery, not one for the S2.Anyways, I can't get into download mode by holding down the home + Vol up+ power, and Odin can't seem to connect to my phone if it's in clockwork recovery and not download mode.Would the jig work? Or is having no ability to boot into download mode pretty much a killer? I can access my phone through ADB, I just don't know my way around adb as well as I would like.Is there any way to flash a different recovery via ADB? Any other solutions to get my phone up and running again? Because right now it's not booting at all.
EDIT: Managed to get back into the system. It's running the International ROM instead of mine though, so the buttons are wonky. Does anyone know where I can find the ODIN files to flash back to stock AT&T S2?

First off, that's not how you get into download mode. Turn the phone off, hold both VOLUME BUTTONS ONLY, and plug in the USB cable.
With my phone, If I hold down both volume buttons and power on, it goes to clockwork recovery. If I turn the phone on holding the volume up and the home button, it goes to download (now).
I fixed that issue already though, the problem at hand is that I have the i9100 boot and firmware on here, and need the stock Odin files to fix. Can't find the files though. : /

Also available in the Download Repository linked in my signature.
...me too....
WOW DISREGARD - too stupid to realize soft buttons work with CWM recovery. They didn't before...very premature post, my apologies
For the bootloop, I selected Advanced in CWM recovery, and then selected "Fix permissions" then I installed update from SD card. Now it works! Back to being a noob and hating my life.
-----------
I seem to have bricked my phone too...I was using ROM manager to install cm9 update (yeah, I NOW know I should not have used ROM manager). I used ODIN to re-flash cwm recovery enabled kernel. I can go to recovery, but it does not let me select any of the menu options. And when I boot the phone, it still sends me into a bootloop.
One time it did say "signature verification failed" but it doesn't say that anymore, it just doesn't move. I've read around about signature verification issues, but I haven't found anything that gets me anywhere.
I know this is pretty noobish, but I really appreciate any help!

VZW LG G2 Recovery Problem NEED HELP ASAP

I've been trying to root my LG G2. I've been following all the instructions using iroot but I'm running into a problem. iroot is telling me that its rebooting into stock recovery mode and that I need to select a specific item in a menu. The problem is that when my G2 reboots, I don't get a menu. All I get a the green droid laying down with a red triangle. I've been watching tutorials and people are getting menus controlled with the volume buttons. I tried accessing the recovery menu using the VOL- and PWR button but that only resets my phone. People are telling me to get a custom recovery but I can't because I need to be rooted, which is what I"m trying to do. Any way I can root my G2? Or at least get to the recovery menu?

Galaxy S4 GS4 SCH-1545 Rooted: Stuck In Download Mode After Flashing TWRP

"Downloading ... Do Not Turn Off Target!!
I rooted this GS4 SCH-1545 OC1 about a week ago, thought I had studied everything correctly.
The first thing I did after rooting was install Titanium Backup, backed up data and system files.
Then I tried to install TWRP recovery last night and the phone restarted to "Downloading... DO Not Turn Off Target.
So I left the phone alone for hour and it still says the same thing.
In the upper left top corner it says " Could not do normal boot Odin mode".
Pressing the volume up button , start up and home buttons doesn't reboot into recovery mode, because I don't think I have a recovery.
What can I do?
battery pull then,
hold volume down-home-power buttons
when it warns you press volume down again to reboot
does this boot normal?

WOW! Thank you, Raver! I followed your instructions and the screen changed to a warning screen that gave me a choice to proceed or to reset-I chose reset, and the phone booted normally.
i still have root, and all my apps.
Others had been telling me to press up , not the" down" volume button
Now I need to find the info that is specifically for the GFLTEVZW GS4 .
I have been trying to avoid using the wrong method and walked right into it.
TWRP WILL NOT WORK
TWRP works ONLY if you have an unlocked bootloader. Only MDK has been unlocked. No other exploit has been found.
You are very lucky to have not hard bricked...
OP, if you aren't going to flash a custom ROM just leave the phone alone and if you get stuck in downloading battery pull, repeat instructions.
If you do want to flash a ROM... good luck finding a recovery that works.
I tried updating my phone to lollipop with smart switch and bricked my phone... still looking for a fix.
hey guys this is a little off topic but yesterday i dont know how but my micromax a1 just went into a bootloop when i switched it on today morning. android marshmallow 6.0 non rooted.
That's way 'offtopic' bruh!

Recovery and download mode without using a power button?

Hello,
I need to enter download mode to flash custom recovery and then the recovery to flash a custom ROM, but my S3 doesn't have a power button, as I needed to brake it because it was causing reboots.
I've tried method from the 4th post of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ow-to-boot-recovery-rom-power-button-t3006256 , but it doesn't work for me.
This is how I currently turn on my phone https://www.youtube.com/watch?annot...qLqi1aRm0Ow&src_vid=mKpOFTecfTg&v=l402ljcmPu4 , but adding home button and volume down while doing this doesn't get me to the download mode.
So, is there a way to enter the download mode and recovery mode with some software tricks (I'm not rooted)? I guess I've tried all the combinations with the phone turned off.
I need to get at least android 5.1 to use the oneplus vr app for buying 1+3, as I guess they will be out of stock before the "buying only by vr app" ends (12h) . Maybe there is a method to run that app on android 4.3?
My friends use iPhones , so I'm on my own...
I have the same problem, I rooted my s3 and enter the recovery, but now I'm stuck in it, cos without power button you can't select anything.
I guess if you menage to root your phone, you can use Rom Menager to install custom rom..
How did you root it without a power button? If you can enter download mode, you can flash touch recovery, so there will be no need to use the power button.

I root it with KingoRoot software for windows.
For rooted phones use TerminalEmulator. Type reboot download or reboot recovery. There are also apps which offer a widget for rebooting.
Use TWRP-recovery, it's fully touch-controlled.

I'm rooting S3 with Kingoroot for windows right now and it stopped at 99%, "waiting for the device" status in Kingoroot and the phone screen says "Downloading... Do not turn off target" but there's no proced bar under. 10 minutes passed with this status, so I guess it's stucked . Don't know what to do now...
edit:
20 minutes passed, so I unplugged the phone, turned it on and luckily it works. I guess I'm done with rooting, it's not worth it. I don't want to get a bootloop or something, as then I probably won't be able to revive the phone without that power button.
Sorry to hear that, I had no problems with Kingroot. Did you install all drivers for you phone on your pc?
The phone was recognised by my pc, so I didn't install any additional drivers. I think I'll try one more time with kingoroot android apk.
edit:
Doesn't work too, error at 90%. No way to root my phone I suppose.
edit 2:
Problem solved. I used adb to boot into download mode and then rooted with odin. Works fine.

Phone not booting. Logo appears, cannot access Emui recovery, but fastboot yes

Hi everyone,
Looking for some help on my phone which is the only one I have unfortunately
So basically the Honor 9 is showing only the logo then just a black screen. One time it vibrated afterwards when pressing the volume buttons and made the camera sound. So it seems it might have booted but nothing is showing?
Phone did fall before, but worked afterwards.
I cannot access Emui recovery (when pressing volume up+power, it just shows the logo and black screen), but I can access fastboot.
If I plug it to charge, it shows the charging logo fine.
Bootloader is not unlocked. Nothing custom has been installed.
I already tried Hisuite recovery mode, but it said the device is not supported.
Any advice on what I could try? I searched the forums but couldn't figure out what to do. Any suggestion would be much appreciated.
Thank you!

Hello.
I know it is close to a year now, but just in case there is someone else out there looking to solve something like this. Just make sure to have a wifi connection through which you can download your firmware and recovery through the eRecovery panel. The downloads should be around a total of 4GB, so bear that in mind.
When you are set with your wifi access do the following (feedback will be appreciated):
- plug your phone to your computer and hold down the vol up + power button to boot into eRecovery
- in the eRecovery panel, choose to download firmware and recovery and it will launch a wifi connection
- connect to your wifi
- download the firmware and recovery accordingly
- once completed, you can proceed to update/upgrade (basically to install) it via the eRecovery
- once the upgrade/update/installations are complete, you can reboot.
- just know that everything on your device will be lost - full system and sdcard wipe will be made.
I hope you find the above helpful for you.
