Unlock codes - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

Are unlock codes from websites such as cellunlocker.net and fastgsm still working? Thinking about getting a T-Mobile S5 for use on AT&T.

No, it's still unlocked and will almost surely stay that way.

I can't decide between the s5 or g3

Is there a tmobile s5 twrp? I can't find one in the forums. All I see are methods for root.

So they don't care that it's a U.S phone and that I'm in California? Just bought an s5 I planned to unlock but t-mo requires 40 days service. ....so i can use cellunlocker to carrier sim unlock?....phone is paid for fully straight from t-mobile store....

Anyone ? Thanks
Also the requirement to activate to avoid region lock......I popped my sim card from my note 3 in and made a 9 minute call....so is that all that is needed before sim unlocking?
Thanks

All that matters to them is the phone details. They can SIM unlock it once you provide them with the carrier info (the carrier the phone was manufactured for, not who you plan to use it with) and the IMEI. Pull the trigger already.

They're the fastest I've ever used. I got my code back in something like 40 minutes if I recall correctly. It may have been 30 minutes. Either way, enjoy!

Yes, it comes in the root tool over in the dev threads. I used it until about a week ago before switching over to Philz touch recovery. BTW, if you decide to get the G3 and don't like it, I'm down for a swap. I'm waiting for one more paycheck before going ahead and biting the bullet anyway.

Yup...they're fast got my code in 25-30 minutes. ..thanks again for the info.

Used cellunlocker.net last night and it took 5 hours to get the code. Longest I ever had to wait for this site.

Don't get the g3. Seriously, it's not worth it.

I ended up getting the s5 but I'm thinking about exchanging it for the G3. The S5 gets crazy hot during usage.

I'm also running a T-Mobile phone on att and used cellunlocker, they had the code to me in less than an hour late on a Friday night, great service if you ask me.....

Lol, wait till you see how hot the g3 gets then.
Have phone trying to call someone when its hot. You'll burn your ear.
I had the att s5 and had no issues with heat at all. Must be your device.
The only issues I had was serious lag. I heard some software updates helped and I bought the TMO one (waiting for it) and sold my g3

No, after a reboot, if I continue to use the device like tapatalk or Facebook, the battery will be around 39C and the cpu will be around 61C. I don't wanna risk returning it and getting a device with other problems.

You won't find a cheaper one. Not at the moment though, this is because the phone just got released and very few have access to db like us
I received my code but where do I enter it?
I am trying to use a Straight Talk (AT&T) sim card. With the stock AT&T apn settings the phone won't connect to data. Voice calls work fine.
As a result I decided to buy a sim code. How do I apply the sim code? My phone does not request that I enter it. My hunch is that ST with AT&T is too close for it to trigger the unlock code request entry. Thank you.

At&t unlock policy
According to this report:
AT&T issues statement on unlocking policy
At&t will unlock it if you are at least sixty days into your account:
“I want to be completely clear that AT&T’s policy is to unlock our customers’ devices if they’ve met the terms of their service agreements and we have the unlock code. It’s a straightforward policy, and we aim to make the unlocking process as easy as possible.”

“As we make clear on our website, if we have the unlock code or can reasonably get it from the manufacturer, AT&T currently will unlock a device for any customer whose account has been active for at least sixty days; whose account is in good standing and has no unpaid balance; and who has fulfilled his or her service agreement commitment. If the conditions are met we will unlock up to five devices per account per year. We will not unlock devices that have been reported lost or stolen.”

Straight Talk SIM on ATT versus Unlocked HTC One
I had no issues setting up the Straight Talk SIM to work on my ATT phone by setting the appropriate APN settings. Both data and ATT 4g service work fine. So what is the advantage of buying an unlocked SIM phone from HTC aside from saving a few dollars? Trying to figure out if there is any point in returning the AT purchased phone for an HTC unlocked ONE

Straight talk doesn't need your att branded phone to be sim unlocked. Same network. Try it on tmobile, than you'll understand why sim unlock is necessary for many, especially when traveling.
I bought mine tonight off-contract. The rep said that after 90 days I could fill out a form and they'll see that I paid cash and most likely carrier unlock it. I only use Straight Talk tho so the phone really doesn't need to be unlocked. I did however unlock and iPhone 5 I had using carrierunlock.net and it worked great. Pretty expensive but it did work. They will sometimes cut the price in half or completely refund you if you make a YouTube video showing how the unlock worked and verify the video with them.

[Q] Buying TMO S5 full-retail without a TMO account?

Has anyone here ever walked into a TMO store and bought their Galaxy phone outright? Without having a TMO account/phone number?
I'm on ATT and keeping my ATT account. And want to buy a TMO S5. So far it appears that the TMO store is the only place in the world that is selling a TMO S5.
So, what kind of hassles should I expect when I go to buy it? Or will it be an easy experience?
Also, just to confirm, that phone WILL be under warranty, right?!
Won't the Costco kiosks sell the tmo s5 outright?

Yes, you can buy a TMO phone without an account... in theory. In practice, you'll find crooked store managers in big cities like NYC and LA will try to tell you the phones are only sold with a contract, LOL. In most places, you shouldn't have a problem - just tell them you're buying it as a gift for someone else, so you can't activate it in store.
The Samsung warranty will be valid, of course, and you can probably return it to T-Mobile within their normal refund period.

No hassle and that is exactly what they did. Just tried to get me to switch to T Mobile. But no hassle about the phone. Was told initially the cost would be $689 + tax since i was a non T Mobile account holder. But, it rang up for $660. You will have to get the phone unlocked to work on AT&T which is no issue. Mine is working great once I manually updated the APN settings.

Good to know. Thanks for the tip on the $689 thing.
I think my only [tmo phone on att] concern is getting access to updated AT&T modem files in the future.
Though I'm sure someone will eventually yank the modems from firmware and present it as a flashable file.

You need to have a SIM that supports ISIS. My old T-Mobile microSIM wasn't any good for ISIS, they had to give me a new one. Maybe you need a newer AT&T SIM?

Are you using an old SIM card? This was posted over in AT&T subforum:
cloudraker said:
Not sure if this is the right place but this post is just to inform people of what i learned the hard way today.
There are new SIM cards, they should come shipped with your phone. If you are like me, you just toss your old card in and go with it. I was unable to get LTE with it, but i didnt know that was the issue. I went to the store, they gave me a new SIM to try, and the same thing. The manager got involved and when she looked at the SIM she said it wasnt right. Apparently, the new SIM cards have grey and purple on them in one of the corners. Not 100% what it is but one of the guys said it had something to do with ISIS.
Anyways, long story short if you are getting 4g in the notification, but not LTE and you ,know you are in an LTE area, make sure you are using one of the new SIM cards, it is apparently a requirement because as soon as we put one in, i was good to go.

Weird. I may have to try this out....
Yeah, I just looked at the SIM that came with my AT&T S5. It's got grey/purple on the corner.
My S4 SIM does not have those colors.
Metro PCS has the S5 with no contract and unlocked for 649.99 at Best Buy and the Metro PCS stores. I am not at home now but I believe that this is the T-Mobile S5. Metro PCS is now owned by T-Moblile and their phones are supposed to work on the T-Mobile network. If this is the same phone it should work on ATTsince it has should have the T-Mobile and ATT bands. Does anyone know this for sure? Sorry but since I am not near a Best Buy or Metro PCS location I can't check it out.

The only way that you'll be able to do this is by buying the device outright (off contract) and then requesting a SIM unlock from AT&T. Otherwise, you're going to have to buy the device and wait a minimum of 3 months before you can get it unlocked.

Towelroot works perfectly. However, don't expect too much. I rotted mine and went about changing the launcher and such and completely borked the device. I had to do a factory reset on it. Seems that Dynamic Display relies heavily on the ASUS Launcher.

I got a friend that has ATT to check it out. They were ok with him unlocking it because he does have service with them however they couldnt register the IMEI because they need proof of use on their network before they will give out the code. The dont want someone to just by a device and automatically take it to another network. Legere was right the other day.. They will rape you and they are greedy bastards.
If I paid full retail no discounts for a device I should be able to do whatever I want with it. You made your money off me already. Let me do what I please

The phone does not have to be on your account for 60 days. You just have to be an att subscriber and the account in good standing for 60 days. They cannot provide a code to a non att subscriber. mainly because it doesn't work that way. You can get the full details about device unlock at Http://www.att.com/deviceunlock

Exceptions can be made for certain customers that must travel internationally...specifically for military, or goodwill/missionary work. If your convincing enough you can get it done
I had a lengthy conversation with AT&T as well as a BBB complaint filed against them for just this reason.
A subsidy lock is placed on all devices regardless if it is subsidized or not. They will provide an unlock code only if you meet their ransom demand of 3 full months of promptly paid service on the device in question on their network after paying full retail value for the handset. At that point you can request an unlock code and in 5 to 10 business days you will receive the unlock code by email. So basically you can finally migrate to T-Mobile or another carrier with the device after about 100 days of ownership of a device with an average expected usage of only 365 days.
when speaking to a representative from the office of the president of AT&T Mobility in regards to the BBB complaint I was told this and I quote verbatim what was told to me "If you don't like our terms for sale of an AT&T branded headset you can always choose to buy from another company with terms more favorable to you."
Is unlocking going to be very effective on other US networks?
I mean, if it can barely call/text and would have poor to no LTE/usable mobile data, is it really going to be worthwhile to unlock? That's been the problem with importing previous Padfone models, and I find it hard to believe that an AT&T-exclusive device would be much different...
Granted, I hope that's not the case, because my AT&T contract is almost up and I really need a device upgrade...

It should work perfectly on other US networks. Imported models don't have the necessary data frequencies for all US networks (especially Tmobile). I'm buying the padfone e (dual sim, quadband wcdma) and using it as my backup phone and primary tablet. I'll use my K910 as a hotspot if I really need mobile data but my tablets are primarily used on wifi.

But how do we actually know if it'll work well? Do we have access to the white sheets, or some other listing of it's supported frequencies?
It just seems like, if it's only on AT&T in the US, then it's probably built for AT&T and less compatible than we'd like.
any hope for non at customers?
I just padfone x and I'm looking for a way to unlock it. I'm not an art customer (T-Mobile). I ve tried unlocking websites but no one has been able to do it. Help!?

As previously advised I am a Tmo customer I used a friends ATT account as a means to get around the unlocking. After about a 1 1/2 months of having ATT open cases and reviewing the account to have it unlocked, it did get unlocked.
This was not an easy feat at all. Literally took calling in almost every other day, speaking with "supervisors/managers" making many complaints to have it resolved.
The concept is annoying that I have to but the device full price and cant do what I want with my device. Glad the unlocking bill was passed even though there will still be a lot of red tape from carriers to get codes.
I am using Tmo LTE and havent had any data issues w/ us bands. Again it was a process, however I ddnt have to spend anymore than what I paid for the device and grateful for my friend for helping me with that.
I can't seem to root mine

How? I have the pre-june 3 kernel, and my padfone is att of course and towelroot won't work. It says device not supported. I'm not quite sure what the problem is. I've seen plenty of posts from ppl saying theirs rooted without a hitch. Any suggestions? 4.3.3 kitkat.

Now that it has been a few months, is it still working good on T-Mobile LTE and HSPA+ networks? Speedtest.net speeds?

[Q] Can the Samsung Gear S be Unlocked

Since Samsung is treating it as a standalone device or like a phone can it be Unlocked as phones can? Can I walk into any carrier that has the Gear S in Stock pay it outright in full and unlock it if necessary I don't want a 2 Year contract on a Smart watch that carriers consider an accessory
I would like to know that, too. If it can completely replace a phone.
As I posted in my reviews in the Gear S General section, you can use it primarily as a phone that makes and receives calls and SMS. Consider it a feature-phone Nokia from the mid-noughties. And it needs charging daily, maybe twice for heavy use.

My limit has been reached
Over on androidcentral, someone reported successfully using it as a stand alone phone.
I received mine today and requested an unlock code from T-mo, which they say can take up to 14 days to arrive. I'll write back if/when I get it.
I also talked to ATT, and they told me they would not know how to unlock it, but I may just have chatted with an unknowledgeable person.

Thanks this was before I got my gear. But yes it can be unlocked many have gotten it. Just a heads up I'm sure you know unlocking for T-mobile will only let you use AT&T or their bootleg companies (MVNO). AT&T takes between 48 hours and 7 days some have said
^ Yes. It's a bit disappointing that they don't come with more bands.
Also, I kind of figured that the ATT info I was given was incorrect. That chat took forever and the person I talked to had no clue about the Gear S.
Do you know how to unlock it once you have the code, other than inserting a different SIM and hoping you'll get prompts for the unlock code?

Lg treasure L52VL

Wondering if there was a root method for this phone it the straight talk version on verizon towers. If someone could make this possible i would appreciate it. If you need any files please explain how to get them here as i dont know how and i will give anything i can.

I have the tracfone version of Treasure. Still no root I haven't followed K7 thread in a while. I think they don't have a stable root either. I don't know what to buy anymore. Locked bootloaders, locked "unlocked" verizon LTE GSM bands, unrootable. I'll have to look for 2012-2014 phones when things used to be easy and fun.

Tried recent kingroot releases but no go for tracfone Treasure. I think TF cripples its phones intentionally.

Yeah TF will only provide and unlock code if the devices shows 12 months . and they call it pre-paid ha..........
and as far as the primier l62vl sister unit goes, also unrootable it seems. i started with the treasure and took it back for primier. this is deplorable. unrootable? locked bootloaders? i had no idea i would run into this ... when my galaxy S4 caught on fire in the break room at work... i saw that display, and read the specs, and for a hundred bucks.. senses 10 points on touch display... HD also... i thought what a deal. no. i am giving this to my daughter Olivia for her 9th birthday. unrootable?? nothing i want. time to just save for that S7 or Note... Samsung... im coming home baby. OK honestly and seriously, will this ever become rootable? should i leave Straight talk? i love root.. all things root you could say (i know i should not say that here... but were are all friends no?) help
I have given up on the lg L52VL and like my friend above will pass it to my daugher. Never again will i purchase a TracFone Branded device, I'll keep using the straighttalk service as it's the best deal for my area, But from now on it's purchase unlocked phone and BYOP with straight Talk , What saddens me the most is with all the brain power in the Android Community no one but no one can break tracfones strangle hold on it's devices. I ran in to the same thing with the Moto E Xt830C which now lays in a drawer collecting dust. I guess when enough people get fed up with tracfone and it's locking of prepaid devices and stop shopping at walmart for phones maybe we'll see a change but i wont hold my breath.
Tried both recent kingroot and kingoroot. No root for tracfone Treasure. Both king and kingo successfully rooted boost Tribute 5. I wonder if Tribute 5 fw can be flashed in Treasure and then rooted?

If you flash anything for a different phone it WILL brick the phone. I wouldn't even try.

St & TF is guilty of this. There is a disclaimer @THE bottom of the ST page I think it mentions rooting. I believe it says something about a year then you can call them and get it done.

You should have been able to unlock the bootloader on the moto e through the Motorola website. I was able to unlock my wife's moto e that way and it was through st.

I'm sure it will become root able. At some point someone that knows what they are doing will figure it out. I wouldn't leave straight talk just because there is no dev. support for this phone. I have a galaxy grand prime through straight talk and have it rooted with supersu and am now doing testing on a kernel and rom so it's not just straight talk. If you really want a phone to take root you must be proactive about it, post in forums, or just figure it out yourself. Lots of developers out there, just got to find the right ones. I'm no longer using the phone but still have it. Have been trying to learn most of this stuff so I can make a program that can unlock the bootloader but I also have a job so it's not looking like something that will be completed for a long time.
