Trying to root unlock bootloader for friend's phone...everything was going smooth had unlocked BL rooted and installed twrp which I've read isn't ideal. So tried to flash cm 11 with gaps thru twrp but like a dummy wiped everything without doing nandroid backup and flash failed...on twrp screen but I guess I've lost stock. What to do now? I found the stock firmware for telus...sorry I'm new to this phone any help would be appreciated thx
edit: is there an odin or rsd lite like tool to flash stock roms? or is hassoon's tool the only answer. really would appreciate some help...thx again

I'm assuming you're not S-OFF or SuperCID.
Hmmmm... Okay here's what to do I need you to follow these exact steps.
Extract the CM10 rom to it's own folder
Take the boot.img and place it in the windroid kernel folder (assuming that there's a kernel folder)
Open the windroid tool and select "Flash Kernel" and select the boot.img from the rom.
Now follow the instructions (I think you have to be in fastboot mode, I'm not sure.)
I think this procedure is right, I'm not entirely sure. I haven't had this problem in almost a year, since I decided to get S-OFF and SuperCID.
OK...the boot animation for cm is still going 2 hrs+ probably the recovery isn't right though no? Flashed last cm official with 5.0.2.9. I'll do as u suggested the for your input. And no idea for s-off sorry this phone is foreign to me

It won't boot, it's stuck in a bootloop because you haven't done S-OFF or SuperCID. It's what makes the custom roms work.
Please try my suggestion. And performing S-OFF is really not that hard, it's very very easy. Although most times I know that it's done on the Asian or Unbranded version of the Amaze that's stuck on GB.
Your recovery is fine, I can assure you that. Only KitKat roms require 4ext version 6 to flash properly.
Another idea just popped into my head, go into your recovery and enter the advanced settings, scroll down and you should see something called "Smartflash"
Make sure that this is enabled.
Do a full wipe (factory reset>cache>dalvik>all partitions except SD card) and then re-install your CM10.
Ok...thanks again for taking the time to help. I know it can be frustrating if the same probably basic issue comes up but phones do vary. Learned something new

Well you see this isn't the same exact problem that everybody else has, ultimately it's the same cause but like you said, it varies.
You're on ICS, from Telsus. Most of the people who create posts are from the Unbranded Amaze crying about their device being stuck in a bootloop or that their phone unexpectedly blew up and killed all their hopes and dreams.
I don't think there's much posts about Telsus Amaze, hopefully someone will see your post and know more than I do and provide more information.
Flash 4ext Touch Recovery from windroid tool.. turn on smart flash in 4ext, wipe all partitions except sdcard. Flash cm10/11 again. Reboot. Let me know how it goes.

Any kitkat Rom for amaze won't flash on twrp/cwm recovery since those recoveries are outdated and haven't been updated for our device. Since your device is S-ON with ICS Rom Telsus it just needs 4ext touch recovery with smart flash on. Kernel won't flash on cwm/twrp recovery with S-ON since there's no smart flash option in them that's why your phone was stuck in cm boot screen. Good thing you figured it out.

I didn't figure it out u guys did lol....by first flashing kernel with boot image of ROM worked for me. So now running jb with cwm 5.0.2.6. So just to be sure to put kk on what's safest procedure if you could...and again thank you both phew!!!

Read my previous posts if you need to flash a kitkat Rom, you just need 4ext recovery with smart flash turned on. That's the safest procedure. Good luck!

If you want to flash any KitKat Rom we have for the Amaze, you need the latest version of 4ext recovery.
I'm really not sure how S-On devices are prepared for this so hopefully just having smartflash on will work. If it gets stuck in the bootloop again, you can try flashing the boot.img and see if it boots up properly
Thx again guys...kitkat installed woohoo and didn't need to flash boot worked from install zip

Hey guys I'm new to posting on here so forgive me if this is in the wrong area. I have rooted using HTCs method due to 1.5 hboot. From what I've gathered I cannot flash a kernel through recovery but when I do attempt to flash a kernel it says completed. For example if I flash a new ROM and I get the WiFi error message I flash another kernel then my WiFi works. My main question is am i really successfully flashing a kernel or does it just say it did. I would think if it wasn't working then my WiFi error would continue.
Thanks

I'm not sure which method you are using to flash roms.
But using this method

I've flashed many roms and kernels that way, after doing the htc unlock, and I've had no problems.

You got an accidental "thanks", congrats on your first lol.
If you go into menu>settings>about phone, your kernel is listed there. Good luck!
Thanks! I flash roms through TWRP recovery. When I attempt to flash a kernel I do it through TWRP as well. Is there a chance that I can successfully flash kernels through recovery even though I rooted htcs way? What I'm getting at is everyone seems to not like to root with htcs way but I'm not really seeing the drawback to it.

So I recently rooted my phone and I tried to install the CM 10.1 mod. I did everything correctly except I didn't backup my original rom. So now the custom rom won't boot up because it gets stuck at the HTC startup screen and stays there. I went back into the twrp and tried to re-install the custom rom and again it didn't work. Now I went back and all my files are gone including the custom rom! So basically I think that the phone is booting because there is nothing on there. I tried to change the recovery image back to the original htc rom according to htcevohacks.com and i tried doing a factory reset but it didn't work. is it possible to fix this if so how? Thanks.

If you can get into twrp you can mount usb storage and put the Rom zip back on and the reason it won't boot is because you are s-on you need to fastboot flash the boot.img first

ok so as you guys said I can put the rom back on and install it and I have tried it. I got the initial set up of the new rom but the touchscreen doesn't work. I tried 2 other roms too and the touchscreen doesn't work on all of them. Do i just have to keep trying out roms? If you guys could post any roms that you have tried before that'd be great. I just want my phone to run something right now.
Try running a ROM based on the 3.16 OTA such as ViperROM or MeanBean. What version of TWRP are you on?
Also note if you use either of the ROM's listed above, they have S-on kernel installers. Just follow the installation instructions.

Give it a shot. The 3.16 OTA included a touch panel driver update. If you have the updated driver you can only run 3.16 base ROM's and also must use TWRP 2.4+, otherwise, your touch panel won't work. If you gain S-off you can downgrade the driver and run whatever ROM you want.
Once S-off you don't have to fool with flashing the kernel separately, either

So according to the MeanBean developer the kernel installer is built in, so all i have to do is flash the .zip file and it will take care of everything correct?

If you flash CWM through fastboot or Odin or similar method then no you don't need root access. In regards to flashing ROMs without having root access from CWM it's not a good idea the as the installation will likely fail because without root the system partition can't be modified which is necessary when installing a new ROM.

You will not hardbrick your device doing this without root access in the unlikely event something does go wrong you will end up with a soft brick that can either be recovered through a NANDROID backup or if needed using the Micromax flash tool. I should also clear up any confusion I may have caused earlier as I misunderstood your question, the vast majority of custom ROMs will include root access but if they don't or you don't currently have root access you can still flash ROMs in CWM successfully.

Root would be needed in the first place to allow you to install a custom recovery such as CWMR or TWRP that you can then use to flash ROM's and other modifications. Some devices such as Samsung devices that have Odin allow you to flash ROM's through Odin without having root provided the bootloader is unlocked. Let me know if you still have questions.

HTC Desire S
Hi I have a HTC Desire S with stock gingerbread 2.3.5 and unrooted. I want to flash MIUI v5. But in order to do this I have to install clockworkmod.
Tutorials said that I first have to unlock the bootloader on the htc website. When I tried to do that, i could not get the token key because my hboot is outdated. I have read many tutorials on the internet on updating hboot but I failed to do so as I kept getting a "Write access denied" message in the command line (Windows7). I've tried other methods like using EasyUnlockTool and read on stuff about "gold cards" but this just keep getting more confusing.
I've flashed my galaxy S i9000 so many times before but don't understand why HTC complicates things so much http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/crying.gif
Is there no simpler way to just flash this phone with MIUI? Can this be done without needing to install CWM, updating hboot or rooting?

Installing Clockworkmod Recovery, updating HBoot, and rooting are all necessary steps to install MIUI on your phone. I would recommend checking out this guide that will guide you through the process of updating HBoot, rooting, and install Clockworkmod Recovery. Additionally I would recommend checking out this index thread that has many additional guides and information about HBoot, Rooting, ROMs, etc. Overall, start with updating HBoot and then once you have done that move onto, the other steps. Let me know if you still have questions.

When you relock you don't loose s-off, so after flashing the desired firmware ruu all you have to do is unlock again with the same blob you used to unlock originally. Then install a recovery and root again. It's not difficult, just time consuming.

Also, you can download the ph85img.zip from my viper Rom or arhd and put it on the external sdcard and boot into bootloader.
See if that helps.
Make sure after you flash the update, you go into recovery and flash the Rom of your choice. And make sure to delete the ph85img.zip from the sdcard so it doesn't flash every time you go into bootloader.
What recovery are you using?

I bought it iran so it may be asian(i dont know how to find it out ),it is s-off,and has super cid ,the last rom i have successfully run on it was supersense4 i think, and i was installing the android rev v5 but it stuck in the middle of the installing(in aroma installer last step) so i put out the battery.I think that causes the problem and when i was installing the stock RUU the bootloader was relocked but now its unlocked!i have this problem on every rom ! And every time i install rom i use your PH85IMG(for bootloader and radio v info ) ... So what should i do now ?! thanks for your help♥

try the stock tmobile ruu (complete one) and use it for 2-3 days (don't flash anything else mods recovery latest radio nothing) to check whether it's a rom or hardware problem..

Just make sure when you flash a kernel to flash the modules came with it and check whether the kernel supports the rom or not

Doesn't one have to have a RADIO update compatible with the version of such-and-such?
I don't remember which such-and-such we refer to, but I remember reading about flashing a radio to match something. Maybe someone else can drop a line here.

No. Windows 8/8.1 is not a supported operating system for the Rezound.
Are you S-ON or S-OFF? What recovery do you have installed?
I'm S-ON and the phone came with amon ra 3.13 pre-installed (I bought it already rooted)... I was told that in order to use TWRP all I had to do was download it and it would become my new recovery?

no you have to fastboot flash it with a windows 7 computer since your s-on...and also the recovery depends on rom...if your on Ice cream sandwhich or lower you want amon ra 3.16 only.....if Jelly bean or higher you want TWRP or CWM latest
Although there are some possible ways to flash recovery and Roms when S-On and without a Win 7 or similar PC it is very risky... If anything goes wrong at all, you will need access to a Win 7/XP machine or could brick it. Honestly I would recommend not attempting further modification of your phone without access to a PC with working Linux, Mac, or PC Windows (7 or earlier) with working fastboot.

Flashing ROMs and everything works just fine in Windows 8.1, although you might need an update to your USB controller drivers. Most computers that ship with Windows 8.1 won't use the screwy generic ones, so you should be fine using your tablet.

Incorrect. Get the GooManager app, touch the menu button choose install OpenRecoveryScript. You can flash boot.img's and recovery.img's even if s-on while you're booted into a rom.

ahh forgot about your nifty little script lol
Thanks everyone, took care of TWRP through goo manager. If I have roms on my SD card- I can just go to "flash roms" in goo manager, select the rom and select flash, wipe cache/dalvik and factory data reset and thats it?

If your s off, my scripts may only function on jb/ICS ROMs. They are untested on kitkat, search android development for Lunar Tools.

This is why I said s off or twrp dumlock due to being s on and no PC access/no external sdcard. Need to flash boot.img. hope you still have your prior ROMs zip.

Ok, ill look into the twrp dumlock. Yeah I made a recovery in twrp and just restored the system and had it fixed in less than 10 minutes.
