is Chrome good browser - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

overall I like it, almost as smooth as Apple Safari. but I am not able to click the link if it is small. have to zoom in to click the link. anyone has same issue?

I always use Dolphin as my web browser on Android

I tried it as well. When scrolling, a little bit choppy, . Coming from ios, smooth is my first priority.

On Android it is not possible to have as smooth scrolling as on iOS, because on Android you have continuous scrolling while on iOS it only scrolls as much as how long your finger is touching the screen.

Not true. Its just Android cannot really do power scrolling as smooth as iOS, sad but TRUE.

Certainly no comparison to chrome in terms of speed (pretty laggy actually compared to chrome, try datpiff.com or other rich sites on both browsers) but clicking links works a bit better indeed.
Just another chromium webview frontend.
Hopefully Google fixes that issue.

Chrome is the only really smooth browser available on android.

Chrome is made of high quality chrome, that's why it's awesome. I use it everywhere, not only on my Xperia Z2.
Google Chrome.

Google Chrome is my favorite webbrowser, Use it on my phone and on my computer.
One thing i dont like though is when you close out all open pages the browser shuts down on my Z2. On my samusung phone it does not.

Have tried Maxthon Web browser?
You should!
For me it is the best one, both on my phone and PC .

not really a big deal, but frustrating at the same time lol

I am crazy about browsers.
I like Chrome but it has one f...g problem: all new websites open in mobile view.
I NEVER use mobile view.
Recenty Opera Mobile is amazing.
And in many cases, Naked Browser beats it all, really.
Naked Browser has an ugly UI though, but very practical.
Opera is pretty and now fast and stable..

I'm constantly switching between stock and opera atm...I like stock for quick controls so I have a full page of viewing and for flash but it seems like it stops responding frequently and then you click wait and then the browser is immediately responsive, I love opera for its fluidity and the start page but no flash is killing me
Sent from my rooted TF201
Opera mobile is by far faster and smoother IMO.... major issue is that imbedded youtube vids will still not play in opera mobile. Quite the annoyance. Without that it would be perfect.
Opera mobile still the best n fastest. crazy thong is we just got a flash update the other day which is to support ICS and flash still doesn't work right on opera. Opera mobile on my Atrix plays flash the best out of the other browsers I have on there.
Why does it seem that Opera mobile is the only one wth flash not working? I know one thing, Opera way overdue for an update as they haven't had one since November..lmao

If this is the case then Primes are the most inconsistent device I have ever seen..... My stock browser will pause for a full second sometimes before I can start scrolling whereas Opera seems to load almost instant and I can start scrolling right away.
Opera mobile is better but lacks flash. Also using the google search from the top bar always defaults to mobile, which I really hate, so I don't use it
Also thought I would share, for me flash works in opera but its wonky in order to see what your watching you have to click on it once to activate it, then click it again so it starts playing then you must be magical and click the expand to full screen button without seeing it and it will work just fine. I keep seeing ppl saying flash doesn't work, it does but not correctly they need to update soon tho

Anything that lacks flash sux by default. Not being able to watch special movies on my tablet gets a no go from me
For me, the stock browser was so much worse than Dolphin HD that I couldn't stand it for a second. For me Dolphin and Opera performed the same, and I dumped Opera.
ye opera is smoother then the stock browser of ICS... the stock browser will get stuck at loading pages for a few sec.
But the stock browser has more options then opera. Hope they will update the browser in the next OTA.
Q. Does opera support flash player like (own3d.tv) cause its not working for me... while the stock browser plays without prob.

You can easily change the default search engine from the ugly mobile Google site to the full one: Just go to the google.com desktop site, long click on the search box and select "add search engine" (amazing feature of Opera btw as it works with pretty much every other search box on any website as well). Then you have to hit Opera's search box at the top and hit the small google icon in the left and you can choose which search engine you want to use, including the just added full Google search.
On Honeycomb I use the stock browser 90% of the time which is smoother, has the quick controls and also the better rendering. But I'm really curious how both the stock browser and Opera Mobile will change when ICS finally hit my TF101, but I think I will still use the stock one more which should be improved again.

try larger websites like my favourite QJ net or android police it takes long to load , stutters on scroll and zoom compared to opera. best test in my opinion. the stuttering is absent on smaller websites when viewed on dolphin, such as xda. then again its a very stuttery zoom and scroll that irritates me its eh semi smooth I guess.
Hmm just tried it and I didn't see an improvement. It was too bulky and the GUI looked low quality.
Been using ICS Browser+ on ICS, though on Neutrino I love Opera mobile. It's the easiest to use and fast, for me. The UI can seem bulky, but what I do is disable Navigation bar and Status bar in settings. This doesn't 'disable' them, it just gets them out of the way until you need it by hitting the menu button.
Try maxthon browser much better than stock ics browser or opera
definatly boat browser

I always used Opera Mobile on my cm7 roms. However, now that I am on cm9, I use boat browser. I've tried all the ones noted in this thread and have always gone back to this browser
Opera is the best because of text wrapping. Zoom into a page and the text re-flows to fit the zoomed in portion. All the other browsers require you to flick left and right to read all of the text

Automatic text wrapping? Opera is the only one I've come across to automatically reflow the text when you pinch and zoom in. Other browsers require you to double tap after you zoom in. I have opera, dolphin mini and maxthon. Maybe I haven't updated them yet, not sure.
Also, is there a reason you have to post a rude comment like that? Who pissed in your cereal today...
Could have simply said that most browsers do text wrapping but you had to try to show some kind of superiority;. Probably to make up for a lack of something

The best internet browser is now...

Firefox (beta)!
I used Dolphin for a while but Firefox is now the best. Reasons why it's number one for me are:
-it's fast
-handles flash well
-syncs anything you want with Firefox on other devices (bookmarks on Dolphin are horrible)
-Ad-block add-on
-option to restore tabs from last time
-ablity to switch to desktop view
It's great for a beta release, only crashed once in a few days of use.
You should check Aurora, the Mozilla test browser. Download it directly from Mozilla website, not in Play.
haven't really tried all that much, but chrome has been pretty good to me ;o
If you're on ICS, Boat Browser has been my favorite. So fast, even with multiple tabs. If you're on JB then Chrome has been incredible. No hiccups or problems (minus having to select desktop mode every time before clicking on a bookmark).

Agreed, I have been running Boat since I found it. It is the fastest IMO. The only thing I've noticed with Boat is when you scroll up or down there is a slight lag before the page starts moving. Not that big of a deal though.

Boat, because it has flash non rooted, and because it does "mouse over" well.
Xscope. But the only good thing about it is that I can swipe to go back and forth. It can do flash as well and rendering is not bad
i use aosp browser but i think and i use to lightning browser is faster
I am still not decided which browser to use on N10. I like bookmarks sync of Chrome but I do not like that it is not hiding tabs and address bar so it has not so much space to show web page contents. I like the way of automatic hiding of address bar of Boat browser but it does not work in full screen mode for some reason. On top of that there is no sync with Chrome bookmars. And last that I was trying is Dolphin with Jetpack. It can hide notification bar on top, it can somehow show and hide tab and address bar infull screen mode but it it not as userfriendly as Boat. It can also somehow sync with Chrome bookmarks. At the moment I tend to use Dolphin but still not fully satisfied with interface in fullscreen.
These are features that good browser should have in my opinion:
* two-way sync with chrome bookmarks
* possibility to hide top notification bar to optimize screen usage (fullscreen) - ideally also bottom bar
* easy usage of tab and address bar in full screen - some automatic showing/hiding as Boat can do in normal mode
* reasonable speed
I am affraid there is no browser with all those features
Oh, also Boat has Google Cloud Print add on FTW
I like bookmarks sync of Chrome but I do not like that it is not hiding tabs and address bar so it has not so much space to show web page contents

Use Chrome Beta. It has a very smooth implementation of this feature as of about a week ago - you can't actually find it on the Play Store search, though. You have to use a link; there's one here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chrome.beta&hl=en
Also, I find Dolphin is the smoothest scrolling and panning of them all - also one of the fastest to load. But does anyone else find it inconsistent? I was using it on my Galaxy Nexus today, and the auto-fullscreen was glitching out when I panned horizontally. The page caching seems a bit odd, SOMETIMES clearing all my tabs and sometimes not (not like Chrome closes almost all of them - sometimes they save for a while sometimes not). Its a solid performer when it DOES perform, the best. But Chrome Beta, even though its a bit slower and doesn't scroll or pan NEARLY as fast, is quite consistent overall.
You just nailed it on why I finally stopped using Dolphin. That, and... Chrome BOokmark sync. My phone, laptop, desktop, tablet, work laptop, and work desktop (yes, I utilize all of the above :S) all have Chrome with my bookmarks on them. I use Chrome on all my devices now.
Also, Dolphin does weird things with Lotus Notes at work and I can't access it, even in Dolphin Mini
I use Chrome simply because being able to sync across many devices is awesome that alone is worth dealing with the crashing and other problems.
My biggest pet peeve.... despite so many people requesting it Google continues to remain thick headed about allowing us to enable Desktop Website by DEFAULT.
I hate having to check that box every time I open a new tab or click a link on one page that opens another window with the mobile version.

Why would anyone use a browser other than AOSP?

Hi all.
Bought a 2nd hand Nexus 10 last Friday. Anyway, while getting round to rooting my device today I used a number of browsers over the weekend. I used Chrome, Dolphin and Firefox.
First off Firefox seemed to have rendering issues on web pages and scrolling was juddery. Dolphin had blank spaces with web pages and also had juddery scrolling. Chrome crashed my device
I have just installed AOSP browser and web browsing is now super fast. I am a long time fan of AOSP browser and so glad to have it on my device now. Pages load up in milliseconds. Rendering is perfect. Scrolling is silky smooth. I can now feel the power of the A15 cpu's.
Why Google persist with Chrome I will never now.

I still feel AOSP better than chrome in 4.3, not sure about chrome beta.
TBH I was using Chrome Beta when I had the reset. But I have read that Chrome can also cause this on the N10.
I did like Chrome originally but it just seems to have got progressively worse. Performance was bad on my Nexus 7 and that's what caused me to try AOSP again and I loved it. I also put it on my Nexus S because Chrome was just unusable on that phone.

Never had quite as much trouble as everyone else with Chrome, but it certainly is no speed king. The big reason people would use Chrome is for the value-add features, such as tab syncing.
Tab syncing? I rarely used that but it's a neat feature. I certainly wouldn't sacrifice everything that AOSP brings to the table just for that one feature.

For me, it's a make-or-break. Password syncing would have been nice too before I switched over to Dashlane, but it's why I'm somewhat eyeing a switch to Firefox as desktop Chrome has started behaving erratically for me. I try to use one piece of software whenever I can, so Chrome having much of what I wanted built in ruled out the AOSP browser as my default.

I think he means the ability to see what was just open on the tablet from say a phone or PC and continue browsing.. heck even back button history is there to use as well... very handy when swapping out devices like I do. I'll deal with the minor annoyances for that feature.

Do you mean bookmark syncing or tab syncing?

As above, I mean tab syncing. I don't use bookmarks anymore (haven't for a long time), so that feature is sadly useless to me on any browser that offers it. Being able to pick up my browsing session roving from device is important when you have around seven.
Yeah I understand. Chrome to phone. To me that is a feature I rarely use.
Dude why do you need 7 devices on the go at the same time ?

I use Dophin. Everything working fine. No problems at all.
You may also want to try Boat Browser.
Aosp is the best. However when I want to use a site like rapidshare etc I use opera as in the other browsers it doesn't download.
Second for dolphin.
The only thing that really keeps me on dolphin is the startup screen. All my favorite websites a touch away.

Dolphin, Boat, and pretty much any browser in the Play Store are just skins over the AOSP rendering engine. Performance is either going to be the same or slightly slower than AOSP because they add a little bloat on top. The only exceptions are Chrome, Firefox, and Opera - those three use their own custom rendering engines and show significant performance differences. But at the moment, they all seem to be much slower than AOSP.
I'm kind of torn on the issue.
I prefer Chrome's UI and features. The smoothness advantage of AOSP browser isn't big enough to make up for that for me.
I find scrolling is handled better by Chrome as well. If you scroll quickly, AOSP browser can't keep up rendering the page and just starts showing the page background. Chrome can keep up better and will generally render it, although at a lower quality until you stop scrolling. I find that preferable as well.
It's a shame Chrome isn't as smooth, especially when zooming. It can really diminish the experience.
I used Naked Browser myself. Though installed I rarely use Chrome and Ocean Browser.
I was a long time user of dolphin until about 2 months ago. Memory leak issues, FC's... I then transitioned to boat, but for some reason that had issues rendering pages that would lead to FC's. I've been using AOSP for about 1 week and it's been hassle free so far.

Chrome to phone involves another add-on and it's not quite as useful as tab syncing for my uses.
And who said anything about needing? Some people spend discretionary income on beer or cars; I choose to collect shiny electronics instead and tinker around with them. It also comes in handy for when a friend breaks something and I can supply a lending unit for a while until their warranties catch up.
