Try different port and be sure you have correct fastboot drivers
I have correct drivers, previously fastboot worked very well. Different ports don't work :/

You already tried taking out the battery and booting to fastboot from power off?
It works like in charging. But it not says "fastboot ac" just "fastboot" :/ What can be broken, has anyone any idea?

I'm attempting to root my AT&T HOX+. I have successfully unlocked the bootloader, and am trying to flash a recovery ROM. The program continues to hang at the <waiting for device> prompt. I have searched and the only solution people had was to confirm that USB debugging mode is enabled, I have checked and it is. Is there some other reason this may be happening?
Attached is the screenshot of my developer options to confirm that I'm not crazy.

Use another USB port. Make sure you don't use a USB 3.0 port as well

I have tried four different ports now, all USB 2.0, and the program still hangs at <waiting for device>. Just to confirm, the phone should be turned on when I run the flash, because I can't figure out how to boot it into charge-only mode.
Make sure you don't have HTC sync running.

The phone must be fully turned on and you have access to the operating system.

Hi guys,
So I installed TWPR recovery, but now im looking to get my device back to stock or at least to Android M.
But in Fastboot devices it shows "???????????????? Fastboot"
I cannot push the stock recovery it just hangs. Does nothing.
If I boot the tablet it shows adb devices correctly.
Is there any way I can fix this so that I can reflash my device back to stock?
It is still Unlocked, but just cant get fastboot to work.
Bump anyone?
Fastboot displays that when you don't have enough permission to access the device. Try again, but as root.
Thanks for the reply, but could you help me with how to try again as Root?
Thanks
they mean you need to run the fastboot command as root from your pc.
Im running on Windows, and ran fastboot with Admin rights...
Can anyone help me further?
Im only stuck with this ???????????????? in fastboot devices.
In android if I run ADB Devices it shows correctly:
And I can run adb commands and they work, its literally just fastboot.
I would like to remove TWRP and go back to stock bootloader.
I can tell you I had the exact same problem as you. I tried every goddamn piece of advice I found on Google. After about a week, you know how I fixed it? I tried other USB ports on my laptop. It worked on only the USB2.0 ports. The USB3.0 port I tried it on it came up as all ????????????
Dang thanks for the reply.
My issue is my laptop doesnt have USB 2 on it at all

Hi, I have an empty phone with only TWRP recovery.
I tried different cables, ports, OSs and even PCs. My phone just can't be recognized anywhere. I plug it in and nothing happens, even in the device manager.
Same thing happens in Linux, I plug it in and nothing happens, adb and fastboot can't find it. I tried to get vendor id to use it in fastboot but lsusb doesn't show anything new as well.
I don't even know where the problem can be. Please help

Ok, everything works after changing 4 USB cables
I can't flash recovery from fastboot mode, because I get this error "FAILED (data write failure (Too many links))". I tried changing USB ports, all the required drivers are installed, and my bootloader is unlocked.

Then try different cable? But try the various USB ports again. USB 2.0 sometimes works better than USB 3.0.
I've tried everything, it just gives random different errors. It's like my phone is write protected somehow.. After a few tries the phone says "any button for shutdown" or something like that.
Finally I managed to fix it I used my mom's laptop with win7.. somehow that could do it thanks anyways

"Dfferent computer" is one of the trouble shooting tips. And yeah, Win7 seems to work better on some of this stuff than Win10.
Hey Everyone. I cant seem to unlock my bootloader. I am stuck on RUI with c.03. I download the in depth test app and the review was successful. When I boot into fastboot mode my devices shows up when I type fastboot devices. But when I type fastboot flasing unlock. It says FAILED (command write failed (Unknown error)). and the device gets into a mode with the white cartoon wining and something written in chinese. whenever I press any key it reboots. I tried changing the usb ports. also different cables, and different PCs. still the same error. Yes usb debugging and oem unlocking have been enabled. I dont know whats missing? Should I factory my phone and try again? Any Help would be greatly appreciated.
PS I have watched all the videos of Har**** Technical and I did everything as he said. Still I got error.
Yeaah I'm also having the same issues
Have you tried connecting to usb 2.0 ports on your pc?
