We need more information than this. Which version of the Amaze do you have? Asian/Unbranded? T-Mobile? Telsus? Wind?
Which rom are you trying to install?

T-Mobile, Unlocked bootloader, S-ON.

If you are on ICS why are you trying to flash another stock rom? I think that official T-Mobile devices received one last OTA that Unbranded users cannot get. This may be the problem you're facing, the device may be more updated than the RUU you're trying to flash

I'm not exactly sure. This isn't a problem that I've seen much around here. Hopefully a more experienced person will see this thread and lend a helping hand.

What hboot version does the bootloader shows?

You have ICS hboot and the stock Ruu you're trying to flash is of gingerbread since your device is S-ON it is not possible to downgrade. Try an ICS RUU.

Ok thanks mate.

Stock rom
all you have to do is goto this website and download a stock rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/amaze-4g/help/stock-rom-mobilicity-htc-amaze-t2817183/post54295695
copy the file into your /sdcard/ and name the file as PH85IMG.zip
gointo bootloader mode and wait for 1 hr to complete installation.

I am trying to go back to stock. I locked it before to do that but it didn't work. Now I need to unlock it again
I figured it out. I got it unlocked. But.....why can i not go back to stock? I think it is because i still have Hboot .0004. Does anybody have the PH85IMG.zip file that i can go back to stock with for my recovery? It is very important because i am getting a replacement device
Well you need to reflash the stock ruu then relock the bootloader.
Edit:
If you look in development Xboarder has posted all the ruu files. The search bar would have found that for you. Xboarder also has a thread how to go back to stock.

That is what i tried. I need the older one for my version of hboot
I'm going to go on a limb here and not read the entire thread and just by the title, I can tell you that your bootloader is locked...unlock your bootloader and you won't have this problem!!! you are probably trying to flash an older .img file or something...unlock bootloader, once you're updated there's not way of going back to an older RUU, since baseband and kernel have been altered, I suggest you do an over the air update of the phone, and install the latest RUU that xboarder has provided. the only reason you would hang in fastboot is trying to flash a mismatched RUU.

oh ok..yea...then he's probably trying to install an outdated RUU or and incompatible RUU, same thing happened to me...so just like i stated...check your firmware version update to the latest 1.43 over the air...the flash RUU from xboarders page in develpment, I beleive he has removed the older RUU's so thats why you might have to do an over the air update, since older RUU's are not avilable..if you've already updated the firmware to the latest 1.43, then I believe you should not have a problem with the RUU. If you have not updated to the latest firmware...flash the stock recovery (you need this to get an over the air update), do an over the air update, then you can use the latest RUU. hope this helps...get back to me.

What firmware are you running currently?
If you have 1.43 then you need to relock your bootloader and flash a valid 1.43 PH85IMG.zip ruu.
You may also consider going back to stock rom, unrooting by rm /system/app/SuperUser.apk then flashing the stock recovery back. Afterwards relock your bootloader.

You may need the 1.36 ruu and since the FBI shut down a lot of the mirrors we lost the links.
But all hope isn't lost. I still have the files! I'm working on uploading them now. It's just going to take about 5 hours for each and I'm uploading three for xboarder now.

HTC releases the RUU, Sprint releases the OTA files. I know the RUUs used to be posted on HTC's website on each phone's page but I don't know if they do that anymore. Most likely a dev will post it as soon as it gets released.
While we wait, what happened to your phone? Maybe someone here can help.

To flash a custom ROM: You cannot downgrade the hboot yet as you already know, but I don't see why you wouldn't be able to go the more primitive root and use HTC's unlock method, flash TWRP (which has HTC Dumlock workaround for the boot.img) and go from there.
Completely Stock: All other RUUs will fail. You can checkout the stock OTA file here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2045839 You should be able to flash this file from the stock recovery by renaming to update.zip but please check with a developer first since I have not actually tried this myself! To install the stock recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2045935 and choose the 3rd firmware option (it will write ALL new firmware) including hboot, recovery, kernel, etc.)

[Q] About CID and S-OFF situation?

Hi guys, I have T-Mobile version. So, I have unlocked, S-OFF, changed to CID to 111111 and installed custom recovery. So now, am I able to have official firmware and software updates from T-Mobile or should I install Developer RUU from HTC? If I want to install Developer Edition RUU, which one should I choose? if you want to install the RUU and make ur tmobile one a dev edition you should install it from here http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads
should be the very top/first link on the list.
t-mobile havent released the RUU for their htc one variant yet... making very difficult for those who flashed a custom recovery and now want to go back to its original state and be able to instal ota updates again.
make sure ur CID have 11111111 (eight ones!!) before installing

[Q] How to Remove Cyanogenmod & TWRP from HTC EVO 4G LTE

Hey Everyone,
This is my first actual post on xda but these forums have helped me with many things that have come up with during my time with Android
I recently installed CM 10.1.3 RC2 for my HTC EVO 4g LTE and couldn't find a good guide to going back to the stock software that I had before. Nothing is wrong with CM but I just prefer sense for this device.
To install CM I unlocked my bootloader with HTC DEV and flashed twrp 2.4.1.0 according to CM's guide. I installed GooManager for access to the twrp bootloader but from their I'm confused as to how to revert back to stock htc sense. I downloaded the latest RUU for my device so if anyone can help me out that would be great. Thanks.

You can flash a Sense ROM. There are quite a few to choose from. If you want to go back stock and unrooted, you can run a RUU. If you're on the latest Hboot, you'll have to S-off and run VipeRUU to get you back to stock, since there is no RUU for the latest OTA.
Also, there is no such thing as a "TWRP bootloader". TWRP is your recovery

No. It's a "stock" ROM, not a RUU. If you truly want to go back completely stock, get S-off and then use the tool in the link below. If you simply want a stock-feeling Sense ROM, check out the development threads-there are plenty.
Here is the link to VipeRUU. You must be S-off to use it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2197909
It would also be helpful if you posted your Hboot and radio (baseband) version.
