I tried to switch from CWM to TWRP for a couple of reasons main being that there are some Roms that require TWRP and won't flash with CWR and you can rename your backup more easier. but it looks like it won't flash anything except Miui and SlimKat (4.3 versions) and nothing 4.4 AOPK or DU or CM. every time it gives me an Error E: Error executing updater binary in zip now I still have the problem where it has a /emulated/0 folder but I don't think that is what is causing this Error. I have the latest Version of TWRP running on LG Optimus G At&T model (E970) I flashed the recovery using Rom installer.

Can I use Flashy to flash this ? or do I need to use fastboot ?
Flash = anything. Can use app or boot into recovery. Just flash it like normally.

Ok sorry. Just the idea of Flashing a recovery while in recovery seemed a little bit odd.

If you have CWM installed from Rom Manager, can you still boot into Download Mode as you di before CWM?? Thanks for reply.
Yes, that should be possible. Download mode is different from recovery mode.

Read article above. So after I install I will have to root phone Again? It is rooted now. The reason I want CWM is so I can back up OS on phone unless you have a better way.
CWM or any custom recovery like TWRP (whatever is available for your device) is the best way to backup. If you're already rooted, you won't need to again unless you restore to stock. Flashing a custom recovery doesn't affect the ROM in any way.
As an alternative method of backup, you can use 'adb backup' (read about it) but it's more complicated. Custom recovery is the best.

Phone is Stock Galaxy S3 4.1.1 at least for Now. Downloaded Rom Manager so can I use it to install CWM or do I need to do it thru Odin as your link showed? Thanks for helping me!!!!
I'm not sure about that. Try ROM Manager first.

No Rom Manager says Galaxy S3 not worked with it yet when you click to flash CWM.
Then look in the Galaxy S3 forum specific to your model (unlocked/carrier variant). There are usually guides and toolkits for everything from rooting to flashing ROMs to restoring to stock, made specifically for new and inexperience users. You'll easily find a way to flash recovery there.
Ok, just had a look, recoveries are indeed directly flashable to your phone. You don't *need* Odin, although it can be flashed that way too. In any case, if ROM Manager isn't working for you for whatever reason, flash TWRP recovery. TWRP = TeamWin Recovery Project. It's a much better and more useful recovery than CWM. Follow the link below to find TWRP recovery along with installation instructions for international Galaxy S3 (unlocked version) -
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/114
If you have a carrier variant, choose your device correctly from the list in the TWRP website - http://teamw.in/twrp_view_all_devices
I've got my boot loader unlocked. I'm rooted on v10g. I have cwm and I was wondering if I could just flash the zip file with cwm.
I think you have to make sure you have the right recovery to flash with. If I'm not mistaken I did flash with the cmw for locked bootloaders but to be safe I'll say to find the right one that is for unlocked bootloaders. I'm using CMW touch for unlocked bootloaders. Make sure you do a factory reset. It might not be necessary but I run a factory reset, I wipe cache and dalvik cache before flashing a ROM. Also, make sure you backup your stock ROM before flashing another.

Is there anywhere I can get the files for cwm touch? I wasn't able to install that when I unlocked my bootloader. Thanks for the reply.

Here is the recovery file, just install it using fastboot as cmahendra describes in his awesome guide
Everytime I issue the unlock command to try and get in fastboot mode it just restarts my phone.

Oh, I didn't know you had a P769.
Look at the bottom most paragraph of the first post of this guide by carloswii5.
He explains it very nicely.
So to get this straight. I download the recovery image & put that on the root of the sd card. Then flash it. Then I'll boot to recovery & flash cm 10.1

Yes, exactly, but use the "Nandroid Manager ROOT" to flash recovery and then do a full wipe + format system before flashing CM10.1
You can of course then flash Gapps as well.

If you want to install the cm10 rom the optimus L9 has as of right now you
have to do the following
1) Go to the app store and search for the app called "Nandroid Manager ROOT"
download the app and open it then go to flash recovery you must first put the recovery from the downloaded file to the
root of you external sd card and then go to the app and search for the recovery and flash it.
After you flash it you will have a recovery on your phone
(just to let you know it will be mirrored) but to boot to recovery you must turn off the phone
and then hold the "Volume UP + Home Button + Power Button"
now go download the cm10 rom from here " http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2216542 " put the file to the root of your sd card and then reboot to recovery and then to flash you will need to "wipe system, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik cache then flash" after you flash the zip reboot and you will have CM10 Hope This helped

Your phone is a GPe model? If so flash the latest Doomkernel from GPe section using flashtool.
Edit....you know I think the newest one was a zip and I pulled boot.img from it to flash with flashtool. So that has me wondering if the full.zip could be flashed straight from the cwm you have.

Sorry if I wasn't clear earlier, you can fix it with flashtool basically the way you rooted it. You could even use the old GPe advanced dual recovery kernel if it is still on your PC. Flash the boot image with flashtool, then select reboot system in flashtool as it reboots and led lights up press volume key ( can't remember if twrp is up or down?) then restore backup from recovery.

Have you looked at all at the "faq's" at the top of the forum pages, maybe the "please read", or the "important threads?"
Perhaps do a little searching using the "Search" button?

You have to open the ROM zip and pull the boot.img out and flash it using fast boot cimands or if you can get into your android system using your original backup....then you can install 4ext recovery which will flash the boot img for you with smart flash...sound like you have a kernel problem

I'm stuck in recovery! for some reason the phone didnt made the backup
Hello,I got a big problem on my INTernational S3. (GT-I9300).
I am not new at rooting flashing ROMs etc.
Got my 3rd samsung android device btw.
So the problem :
1. I installed CM using CM installer, official downloaded from sites of CM,without no problems. Now my phone keeps spining on boot logo of CM 11?
I tried to flash normally using .zip file trough recovery ( CWM 6.0.4.6) but CWM keeps saying the ZIP file it´s bad (formated 3 times on FAT 32& 32kb and tried another storage) so i did it from the installer.
Now i got something like eh..stone brick but with BIG problems.
Recovery couln´t not mount /data (or wipe it etc.)
When i tried install backup (before CM install //from STOCK ROM//) it give me error:
Checking MD5 sums....
md5sum: nandroid.md5: No such file or directory
MD5 mismatch
so cant go back to Stock ROM through the recovery.
now i tried odin, succefully went to Download mode by Volume down+power+home but ODIN did not find the phone (PC did)
so i dont know how to make my phone working, now tring to copy some ROMs to SD card but SD adapter not working +fu#k+
If you want, contact me on skype : lehkyp15 or in PM can send some videos.
Please, help me guys, thanks for all help :good:
PS: sorry for english,im not from english speaking country

Twrp is unable to read cm recovery backup and vice versa. You need to flash stock rom then root install recovery(Philz this time ,no problems with him) and flash custom rom. Don't use Cm flash tool, download nightly(or stable) and flash via recovery.
