Just wondering what the range of the automatic backlight settings are for the light sensor. Is there anyway to get the autobacklight to not burn my eyes out if it is dark in the room or outside?

haven't had much luck either
Dear Friends,
I have noticed something on my SGS2. When I have it on low brightness and I view an even colored background I see impurities (ripples) in the screen. They don't come from the application or site I am viewing but from the screen itself. Does this have something to do with the AMOLED display. Do you have similar experiences when you view the screen with for example 15% brightness. ?
Thank you
Shouldn't be there. Exchange it.
Most of the devices have these lines you mention. Unfortunately.

You can try comparing it with a phone of a friend or the one in the shop. Usually on low brightness AMOLED+ screens have ripples, lines, flaws of varying degrees. On regular to high brightness it's not visible.
If you're on warranty you can try having it exchanged if it really bothers you.
Good luck.
If it's normal I won't worry anymore thanks for your help So always. This community is so great
Hello
i am dissapointed about xperia s because the white is not really white, it is little bit yellow.
i dont mean the yellow tint on bottom of screen that many people have.
what i mean is the same what happens to galaxy nexus.
i heard that there is a app where you can change color of screen.
does it work for xperia s and where can i find it??
All the phones have display tint, some warm and some cold.
Even the high end TVs have a tint and have inside a color control settings.
So don't be disappointed and raise little the brightness
Edit: there is an app in market called screen adjuster maybe you want to try it.
Add +5 blue and thats it.

Hey all. I was thinking, it is said that auto-brightness saves battery life oj your phone but surely ot uses more to chamge the brightness all the time. I travel a lot in work and am in and out of light which changes the brightness.
Is it really a battery saver? Want to save as much battery when in work.
Thanks.

Unless you manually set a very low brightness, yes it is. Note that most apps that do this from Play will use battery; the integrated AB feature does not.
In a similar vein, due to the nature of OLED panels, having dark backgrounds/themes/wallpapers will conserve battery over lighter backgrounds. Unlike LCDs with their LED backlights, OLED panels draw no power when the pixels are off (black).
Sweet. Thanks for the answer and extra ill take that as a christmas gift hehe

What are some of your white balance settings? Seen someone post red 20 and blue 60. is that going to be the best?
Currently have Crizal Prevencia non glare coating on my glasses and it gives everything a yellow hue due to the blue violet light blocker in the coating. It's giving me a bit of trouble dialing it in. thanks in advance.

I have tweaked mine again and rgb around 5,20, 30 is better. But off course different people different taste. Mine obviously prefer bluish white. But generally the blue is the weak spot and the red one is quite strong. The green is in the middle, but very sensitive to the red value (red and green as yellow). So in the end try it yourself

R: 0
G: 0
B: 24
Matches my PC screen.
R; 10
G; 0
B; 60
But i am still tinkering with it
Just a headsup, yesterday when i was originally setup the balance of rgb to 5,20, and 45, my girlfriend (which is a graphic designer and she usually uses a Mac in her work) said that it's bluish to her liking when she handled it, so we tinkered with it and she said that when rgb was set to 0,0,0 it is truer to a real white. So.. I don't know bout you guys but after that comment i can say that this whole white balance thing is really for personal preference only. One setting does not mean much to other's preferences.

Yep I found 0,0,0 just fine, maybe 0,0,5.
Also remember perception of white will differ with differing ambient light

Some prefer more red and some more blue. But for it to be "correct" it should be on the warmer side.

I like it more blue and compared it with my samsung LED TV... its nearer... im not really sure...
I reset mine to 0 0 0. In the end I think factory settings are the best.

Call me crazy but with my calibrated monitor to D65, I am using 120,0,0 that seems to match my monitor the best. This is D65 so for people used to blueish images this will seem very red.
My eyes are weak on blue, so the sun light appears muddy for me.
My setting is 30:45:160
