They only sell the North American model (C6806) in the GPe version there, the other models won't work on all the bands in the US.

Thanks, that's good info. I didn't realize the Sony versions there weren't North American models.
Wait TV a seek I thought that the Sony version was the lte version I don't want the gpe version from what I've been viewing that version has a few issues that the Sony version doesn't.

C6806 is the North America version with the LTE/GSM bands needed for USA.
The C6806 comes in two versions

It will work on T-Mobile and AT&T for GSM talk and 3G data.
It will also work on T-Mobile for LTE for their 1700/2100 bands and the 1900 refarming.
It does not work on AT&T's 700 Mhz LTE, their main LTE band.
Neither will work on T-Mobile's future band 29 - 700 Mhz Lower D and E
Different countries use different bands, which sucks.

Other than that, especially as of late, ROM support is getting way better. Actually I think this is the best it's ever been since it's release! I've had my C6833 since 10/01/2013 - right after launch and I've been getting LTE from Straight Talk over AT&T network from day one. Don't let anyone tell you if you decide to grab C6833 that you won't be able to get 4G LTE or the upcoming XLTE. The C6833 is compatible with XLTE and is XLTE ready.
If your worried about having no flash for taking pictures there are 2 solutions. Something called iBlazr remedies the lack of a physical camera flash. What many don't know or simply don't want to acknowledge is this beast does in fact decent low light pix! But I didn't purchase this for taking pictures anyway so it's not an issue for me.
Check out the article by The Verge it's pretty much spot on for everything except for one sticking point. YOU CAN FIT THIS BEST INTO FRONT PANTS POCKETS. PERIOD. I do it everyday. The one thing I'd want to know though is what kind of idiot would put this beast in their back pocket anyway? They'd be begging for trouble no matter what device they chose and probably deserve their damaging their device anyhoo.

XLTE is a Verizon Wireless sales product. Not sure how this phone will work on it, maybe in data mode only on VZW?
Avoid the C6833 if you live in the US, no reason to get it when a better version is available.
AT&T mainly offers LTE on their 700 Mhz band.

I have the C6806 from newegg. So far so good on AT&T's LTE network. If in the US go with the C6806.

I think it all depends on your area. I live in Dallas and my c6833 runs AT&T LTE most of the time.

AT&T has LTE on multiple bands 700 MHz, 1700/2100 Mhz, 1900 Mhz, 850 Mhz
If people want to use LTE in the most places, a phone with 700 Mhz is required as its the most commonly used one by them.
The lower frequency will provide service in buildings where higher frequencies don't where they have multiple bands in the same location.
I picked one up too from Expansys. I have no idea why I bought it except for the fact that its almost half the price and its a GPe phone. So far in a day I have found the speaker to be not loud enough (its not silent but its not loud enough for me), its too big and I am really having a hard time to figure out how to carry it. Battery life is still settling in so can't say if its good or bad. How do you guys carry this phone in jeans pocket? I am 527 Levi person and there is no way I could fit this thing in the front pocket.

I agree, the speaker is pretty poor.
I carry it in my front jeans pocket no problem, tall jeans.

I, too, got one from expansys about a week ago and is still getting use to use it as my daily driver. the screen res is great and the performance is awesome. I agree the speaker's volume is way too low, but that's something that i can live with. My only concern is the lack of support for the GPe model. Kind of make me wish i bought the Sony version instead.
But overall i am happy with it and it somewhat fits in my jeans front pocket, albeit it makes sitting down very uncomfortable. Though, since I live in so cal i just wear shorts and sandals on most weekends, so i guess i can also live with the size of this beast.

If Google will update GPE devices to 'L' release than they are probably better than Sony versions. Not sure if Sony will keep updating a fringe device for 'L' versions of android.

I am considering buying an unlocked Lumia 800, for both use on AT&T's network in the States and then abroad in the Middle East during the later half of the Summer. I have never bought an unlocked device before, so I just wanted to ask about the differences between the UK and US phones -- I believe electrical outlets are different between the two areas thus the need for an adapter -- and if I'll have any troubles popping out my SIM card with my current phone and switching between the two. Abroad, I've planned on getting a local plan in the city I'm visiting, so I don't expect any trouble there.
Regarding the Lumia 800, does anyone have an idea about the pricing and how it fluctuates? Full retail at sites like Expansys are about 700 USD, while others in Asia and Europe are hovering around 500-600 USD. Obviously, I've got around 6 months to wait, so I'm anticipating it coming down to a more palatable 400 USD.

Most sites that will export to US will include a power charger adaptor. I got a universal plug converter with my order. So, you won't need to worry about that.
Expansys is expensive. You can currently order the black from Amazon for 509.99. I ordered my Cyan from handtec.co.uk for 353GBP + 15 for shipping (about $584 USD). Depending on where you order the phone, you'll need to fill out paperwork for the FCC to approve the import. If you order from Amazon, this should already have been done, as the phone was already imported. Since I ordered directly from UK, I got a call from FedEx to fill out the forms while the plane was still in the air. Was the fastest shipping I'd ever seen. 36hrs from ordering from UK to receiving here in Seattle.
Be aware, also, that current versions of the Lumia 800 do not support the AT&T 850Mhz for 3G. For me, this is noticeable in my apartment, but nowhere else. If you wait a month or so, the US variant (RM-819) supporing WCDMA V (850MHz) will become available unlocked direct from Microsoft.

Can you confirm that Newegg sells the variant that works on WCDMA 850? This isn't the same as GSM 850. They show the Lumia 800 as a deactivated item. And, when it was active, it show the same incorrect WCDMA bands as most other retailers out there.
Thanks for the quick responses. I didn't know about the incompatible 3G bands or the US version's upcoming release, so I'll wait and see if I can get a decent deal there. Also, newegg was shown as unavailable when I last checked.
I did just see the Lumia 900 was announced, with a release date pegged for March. My upgrade is sometime around May-July, so that may be for consideration. Only problem will be AT&T's policy on exclusive phones and mid-contract for unlocking phones. Hopefully, the homebrew scene gets more active as more users get onto the platform -- I'm thinking of a parallel with the iPhone jailbreak/unlocking bits from the iPhone Dev Team.
I'd wait until early February for them to be sold unlocked in Microsoft retail stores and online.
Should (hopefully) be cheaper than what it costs to import one currently. It's hard to wait though and I'm dying to get one. lol

Not so sure about that. It'll still be slightly exclusive for a bit. I also think that it's going to be bundled with a few other things.
I'm looking forward to the availability of the c-1031 sleeves that come with the phones. I'd like a spare cyan, and then one of each color, for the fun of it.

This is going to sound rude, but I don't believe it. It's already been admitted by many UK retailers that they posted the specs that Nokia has on their website, which are incorrect.
There are two versions of the Lumia 800. The EU Variant (RM-801), which is quad GSM and tri WCDMA 900/1900/2100; and a US variant (RM-819), which is also quad GSM, but tri WCDMA 850/900/1900. The US variant has not been released yet, neither has its firmware. There are quite a few people waiting on that firmware to see if it may open up 850 on the RM-801. That depends on if the devices are tri-band due to hardware limitations or firmware limitations.
This can be confirmed by referencing the outermost packaging that your Lumia came in. The one with the bar codes on it. What is the FCC ID line? I'll attach a photo of mine.
Given that AT&T uses a lot of the 1900 WCDMA bandwidth, you probably won't notice a difference between it and a 4s. Here's how I can tell the difference. I own a Nokia 6700 classic (tri WCDMA 900/1900/2100). I owned it before AT&T put out the HSPA upgrades and I got amazing reception in my apartment. After HSPA rolled out, my signal got really shotty and kept dropping out and down to 2G. I then got a Telstra HTC HD2 (850MHz). It functions perfectly in my apartment and does not drop down to 2G. I can tether at HSPA w/o needing to have my phone right up against the window in order to keep 3G signal.
Now that I have the Lumia 800 (RM-801), I cannot keep good 3G in my apartment, but 2G is fine. This means that the 850 band is the one that bends enough to get inside. The 1900 glances by.
I'm willing to bet that Newegg may have done what most other sellers did and just pasted the specs w/o verifying. After all, why would they need to, right? Nokia should have put out the correct information to start with.

My box looks nothing like that and doesn't have any of those markings. That is a Nokia lumia 800 box for a carrier. I also have had phones that don't support 850 and I don't get 3g/4g on them. I do on this phone

Our stickers may look different, because I have the Cyan version.
According to Nokia customer care, and many other articles online, your device does not have 850MHz. The product code is RM-801.

I have the black from Amazon's intial selling - so spent low $600s but haven't looked back.
The box DID include a USA outlet adaptor.
If you're on ATT, you still have a good shot of getting 3G if you're in a major area.

Of course there's a US variant. It's getting released possibly next month.
Why the product codes are mentioned is so that people can confirm that sellers are indeed selling the right bands as they quote. There is no quad band WCDMA Lumia 800 until you can prove otherwise. There is no information on your device that contradicts anything that I've already quoted.

Come on those links you posted are before it was announced. I have the 850 variant because that is the band in my area. You don't because you have the UK model that was released unlocked for the UK. Until you can provide information other than hearsay that there is no 850 then your just spreading rumor.

I called Nokia after getting the number off of twitter and there are variants that have the 850 wcdma that are unlocked. I gave them my imei number and my phone is from Norway which has the 850 band. You can check the country specific website and they list the correct bands.

My Lumia is unlocked and unbranded. It was shipped directly from Nokia in Helsinki and I have that box too.
My family will be taking a trip to Costa Rica this coming February. You can buy a prepaid SIM card from Kölbi (ICE) at the airport. I've done a little research and it appears that an unlocked phone should work for both voice and 3G data so long as the phone supports Costa Rica's bands, 1800 on GSM and 850 on UMTS.
I've come across an inexpensive Android phones, the Pantech Crossover, that seem to fit the bill. Do you guys think that this phone will work? Other than requesting 3G data and setting the APN, is there anything else I need to do to get 3G data to work?

Yes it should work but make sure that the phone is SIM unlocked first before you leave on your trip. Then once you get the SIM card put it in the phone and activate it, making sure to request 3g data and setting the APN properly. If you do these things you should be all set.

Google maps should work just fine, unfortunately Costa Rica isn't know for having blazing fast mobile data speeds so finding the map routes might take a while to load. That being said yes it can create directions based on address or others points of interest. Overall, it should work fine you just might have to be a little patient with waiting for map directions.

The LG Thrive P506 Black 3G Unlocked Cell Phone should fit the bill for you. Its only $105 and has the required wireless bands, is unlocked, and should be more then enough for a cheap phone to be used for getting some gps directions, making a couple calls, or looking up some points of interest.

shimp208, thanks for the suggestion. Since I've got some time before the trip, I'm weighing my options. Currently I'm considering the following:
A used AT&T phone (assuming that I can unlock it) off eBay - under $100
A new unlocked Pantech Crossover - under $70
A new unlocked LG Thrive from NewEgg - $105
A Zopo ZP500 cheap Chinese Android phone, but appears to work on AT&T's frequencies - $170
The reason why I'm sticking the ZP500 into the mix is that it's specs are better than the low end Android phones that I'm also considering. Does anybody have any experience with this phone? Does it do 3G on AT&T's 850Mhz band?

BTW, I posted a question on the TripAdvisor forum for Costa Rica regarding buying a prepaid sim card when I get in country and somebody suggested that I acquire the sim card through costaricacellularconnection before I go and activate the sim/phone when I get in country. While I haven't used it personally it seems to have good reviews with people being really happy with the performance you get for the price. And to answer your question about 3G on the 850Mhz band yes that should work.

Unfortunately the Phoenix arrived and had a busted microSD slot as it would not recognize any of my cards. So I wound up getting a new Pantech Burst. Worked out in my favor as the Burst seems to be (at least on paper) a significantly more powerful device (1.5Ghz dual core Snapdragon CPU, 1GB RAM, & 16GB flash).

Yes that is a much more powerful device compared to the Phoenix dual 1.2 Ghz (From what I read) vs 800 mhz and 1 GB vs 512 RAM, plus bigger and better screen is the better choice.

I ordered a ZOPO ZP500+. I've read it is identical to the ZP500 with the exception that the single core MTK6575 CPU was swapped out with the pin-for-pin-compatible dual core MTK6577. In addition to the dual SIM functionality, I like the fact it is dual core and a quad band where both 2G and 3G should work in Asia, Europe, and North America.
It purports to have 850MHz 3G, and I have read of an Australian user using this phone's 3G with 850MHz and also a Canadian with 3G at 850MHz. It reads to be reasonably popular amongst Russian users. Can't say I know the specifics of AT&T's 850 MHz implementation so I can't comment.
I anticipate delivery of the phone in a week's time, when I am keen to get a good look at it then.

What specifically are you trying to figure out about AT&T's 850 MHz implementation? Here is a map of where AT&T has 850 MHz 3G coverage in the U.S, if you follow the link and scroll up there should also be a map of AT&T's 1900 MHz spectrum coverage.

Those are great maps of AT&T's 850MHz (and 1900 MHz coverage).
I'm not looking for AT&T coverage myself, but rather interested in coverage in Canada (specifically Saskatchewan and also Ontario). I only mentioned AT&T in this thread because of this post in the thread:

If your looking to get coverage in those Canadian areas I would use the website you looked at to find out which carriers have 3G 850 MHz coverage in the areas you want. Then once you know what carriers have coverage in the areas you want, I'd go out and buy a prepaid SIM from among the the carrier that offers the coverage your looking for and then go with whatever carrier has the best value for the money in terms of data usage, etc. and use that.

Let us know how the Zopo works out. I'm interested in knowing how well these Chinese MTK6575/6577 phones work. Had I not gotten a great deal on a new Burst on eBay I would have really been considering one of these. An interesting development (at least in the GSM space) is that the Nexus 4 is within $100 US of most of the currently available Chinese dual core phones. That will put a real price squeeze on the next gen quad core phones...

Sure will, to me unless your really on a tight budget it seems like a no brainer to invest the extra $100 or so for not only significantly more powerful hardware but also a lot better community support due to the very open nature of nexus devices.

Maybe it's just my games talking, but the Xperia Play is pretty cheap unlocked now.

It would be very unfortunate with a branded Ultra since it would mean a crippled device with a crippled radio.
The C6806 standard edition offers both AT&T, T-Mobile and European bands (some slight differences there though, the 6806 has the 700 and the 6833 the 800 band).
So an unlocked C6806 is great but if Sony let a carrier fiddle with it, I guess that a couple of LTE bands will be removed (see what T-Mobile did with the Xperia Z C6606).
The best solution would be that Sony sells the Ultra unlocked through Sony Store - the C6806 that is. AT&T et al branding, bloatware and locked bootloader would destroy a magnificent device.
coming from a LTE ATT device to this, i can tell you, I DO NOT EVEN MISS LTE. for music,youtube,web,email,fb,cloud storage i do not see any difference
I was originally on the galaxy S3 with LTE, and switched over to a note 2 unlocked non LTE and sure, my speedtest scores aren't as high, and my downloads aren't as fast, but unless you're visiting some super graphic heavy site, it's not a huge diff. Plus LTE drains battery faster I believe. On a battery draining device such as the Ultra, you definitely won't want LTE constantly draining the battery. Especially if you're not on unlimited data.
I wish the C6806 was sold unlocked, but that's probably the Tmo version - which means they'll lock out a certain LTE band (700)

For what it's worth, Negri also had the Xperia Z NAM edition (6606) up for pre-order, and that is nowhere to be found except on T-Mobile.
I hope I'm wrong, but with Sony signing an agreement w/ TMo, I don't expect LTE devices to be sold unlocked by them in the US anytime soon.
The positive side is that if the C6806 is destroyed by a carrier, the C6833 will work in the US since it has the T-Mobile bands and can use AT&T albeit without the 700 band.
So an option in a worst case scenario is to get the C6833 imported for those that demand LTE.
Unlike the Xperia Z, the C6806 and C6833 are pentaband like the C6802 and offers LTE in addition. The C6833 should therefore be an adequate option for US customers if the C6806 is messed up.
I am still hoping that Sony will sell the C6806 unlocked in the Sony Store but the C6833 is a perfectly adequate option.
Personally, the lack of VoLTE made me skip the LTE versions in favor of the C6802. Streaming videos etc isn't really an option on US capped plans and the HSPA+ speeds I got on the 6802 is very adequate for browsing, navigation, picture uploads etc.

Sony sold the Xperia ZL LTE unlocked on their website, they might do the same for this phone as well, at least i hope that's going to be the case.

Correct - I have a Lumia 1020 and the Ultra Z C6802 on ATT. Here's some speedtests for you:
Ultra Z in HSPA (not even HSPA+) is getting 6Mb down, 2 Mb up
1020 in LTE gets 15Mb down, 11 Mb up
Despite the desparity, I don't notice that much difference in surfing. - not to mention the Z feels the fastest of any device used since the original Moto Xoom overclocked to 2GHz

I ran a SpeedTest yesterday and got a download of 8.3 Mbit/s on the AT&T network with HSPA+ and Straight Talk. A few minutes before, I ran another SpeedTest on the new Motorola Droid Razr Ultra and got... 3.5 Mbit/s - that's on Verizon 4G LTE.
So I am certainly very happy with the speeds I got on the Ultra in the center of Manhattan (the tests has been made near Grand Central).

That's interesting... Looks like the C6833 is MUCH more compatible with North American frequencies than the C6603 was.
C6603 (Euro LTE Xperia Z) lacked UMTS1700 and UMTS1900 support, which meant no 3G at all on T-Mo and 3G only where AT&T had UMTS850 service.

Sony took the decision to use a top notch LTE radio in order to overcome the old limitations that plagued LTE devices until now. The only thing I don't like is the lack of VoLTE and it is one of the reasons why I went with the C6802 instead of following the original C6833 plan.
The only band missing on the C6833 is the 700 one, otherwise it should work nicely in the US meaning that it is a great option if it would end badly for the C6806 (i.e. carrier branding, removed bands and locked bootloader).
I read how the alpha works with att but it doesn't support LTE.. Is that the same for TMobile?
just an update in case anyone is wondering. Yes it did work with tmobile but just like the other guy who got it for ATT, I won't get LTE. I get H+ or whatever it's called but not LTE. Also, Tmobile isn't all that great in my area so I'll be switching back to Verizon, hopefully this phone gets released for Verizon someday.

Same goes for me. I just received a European version(SM-G850F) and it's data speeds are unusable on T-Mobile's network in Southern California.
I saw a post about a Canadian version (SM-G850W8) that has the 1700/2100 bands for T-Mobile on the CanadaGSM website. This model isn't listed anywhere else. Is this an error in listing or is it worth ordering?

You want an honest opinion? I returned this phone and picked up the Sony xperia z3 compact. The deal breaker on the alpha wasn't the lack of a SD slot. It was the battery life. On normal use it beraly make it through an 8 hour shift. I was at about 5 percent battery life and I know I can swap out batteries but the battery life overall is just poor.
I used my xperia compact all day yesterday, and then some after work, I ran some errands, used Google maps for a bit, made a few calls, paired it to my car so I can play some music, I was out and about for almost 14 hours and I was at about 20 percent. Yeah the lack of no removable battery sucks but it had great battery life.
It's not all pretty though. I don't like the back glass. It scratches easily, the dual stereo speakers sound muffled, call quality is fine. Picture speed seems a bit slow and the front facing camera is pretty poor. Still I think the z3 compact is cheaper than the alpha. I miss the build quality on the alpha but I'm happy with my xperia Oh and it's wager proof which is great but the glass makes the phone slippery which makes you wonder why they even made the back glass in the first place
Oh and the screen seems a bit too sensitive.
Anyway just thought I'd throw that out there. The alpha is great, just wish it had a better battery life.

The z3 compact would be my 2nd choice but I REALLY love the build quality. The battery life on the alpha is a big concern but it's a fair trade-off for me. I might just take the risk and order it from CanadaGSM.ca and see how that works out with T-Mobile's network.
***UPDATE***: DO NOT buy from CanadaGSM.ca website. They are fraudulent. I received a blank confirmation page upon order completion and the chat line said I needed to give them my CC's 3 digit security code even after they've charged my bank account. They also said my product will not be shipped. The number listed on their website is fake as well. Google... beware CanadaGSM.

I get around 24 hours from mine with 4 hours on screen time, I have tweaked it a bit but no harder to do than it was with the nexus 4
The Galaxy Alpha in Canada used by Bell Canada and
related Companies called the 850 W8 has the exact
Bands for METRO PCS/ TMOBILE USA including
3 G , 4 G, LTE ETC.
I've posted elsewhere but you can log on to their Site and look at their Devices.
They use 1700, 1900, 2100 on both 3G
AND 4 G LTE ( AWS Band ).

How does the G850F work on T-Mobile? Does it get 4G LTE?
I have the 850m on tmobile in Austin, Texas and I get LTE coverage.
No not an error if you want LTE on TMO this will do it and the 850M will definitely do it because I have the 850M which has the LTE Bands for Tmo BUT you probably won't get VoLTE like a branded Tmo phone.
My 850M says LTE but drops to 3g on calls sometimes it goes to H+ on calls and I have voice and fast internet but sometimes NO Internet on calls....
Great fast little phone Exynos has better audio than qualcomm .
Canada Bell phones have the 3G and 4G bands for Tmo 1700, 1900,2100 LTE and
1700, 1900, 2100 3G
EDIT : After using a different combination of APN settings on the Metro/Tmobile Network I am getting much improved LTE and H and H+ speeds and stability.
Data very rarely stops during calls.
As confirmed by User Corvissimo I have also seem CDMA band 1700 on 3G in addition to 1900 band on 3G.
The 850M also has all the LTE Bands for Tmo
and locks onto very low level signals for calls and data sometimes in elevators.
When you do not have LTE or on a voice call this unlocked factory Alpha drops to 3 G or H H + AND you have 1900 band there for Reframed areas AND the rarely listed 1700 band on 3G confirmed by Corvussimo and now myself via simple diagnostic.
Now I am getting better handoffs switching from 3G H+ and back to LTE when call is over.
I am not a Dev. but above is correct especially the diagnostic I have a screen shot lol.

Excellent info, Thank You! Do you mind posting a Screen Shot (or a written list) of the new APN Settings that you are using for Tmo? I have a G850M on the way to me now and that would be very helpful. And my father is using an Unlocked SM-G850A.
I'm also interested in anyone's experience regarding LTE/HSPA+ connectivety & service using the SM-G850M specifically on AT&T in the Metro Los Angeles area.
Well my settings are tweaked for Metro PCS which uses the exact same Towers as Tmo AND the sims and most settings are interchangeable - BUT getting optimized settings on Metro is a little different.
For example you will use
Fast.t-mobile.com - I can use either that OR the fast.metropcs.com.
There are esoteric Metro settings GID which help but don't pertain to Tmo.
Yes 850m gets lte for att. Get it on Amazon. Their customer service is great. This phone is awesome. With the KitKat rom I was getting 20hours with 30-40% screen on time. Sometimes 50% . Best phone ever
I was searching eBay and saw a G9250 and G925I that seem very similar. There's also a G925F. All support all AT&T bands as far as I can tell. I'm looking for SIM unlocked, boot loader unlocked and updates not tied to a carrier. Most importantly I want one that will likely see the most development here. What do you guys suggest?
I have G920I and have no problem with LTE or connectivity. However I'm thinking about switching to edge and I'm considering G9250 which hands down supports the most LTE bands than any other variant. It's just too pricey yet let me know how much you end up spending on which variant

Agree I think the G9250 has the most LTE Bands. USA and Asia for the most part not sure about Europe but probably would maybe....

I have G920I and have no problem with LTE or connectivity. However I'm thinking about switching to edge and I'm considering G9250 which hands down supports the most LTE bands than any other variant. It's just too pricey yet let me know how much you end up spending on which variant

Thank you both. I was also leaning towards the 9250. Prices are not that different between the I, F, and 0 variants. However, I have not committed to one yet. It looks like the 9250 also has the CDMA radios but I noticed more 3G CDMA radios then 3G GSM ones listed. I know mostly all I need is the LTE but I just want to be sure.
I will let you guys know once I get it.

Great! I just ordered my 9250 through never-msrp website (its $30 cheaper than their ebay posting). Here are the bands supported on G9250 from Samsung's HK website:

Link please. Can you add a squaretrade warranty if purchased direct? That's one reason I was thinking of going through ebay.

Here is the link. I think you can still buy SquareTrade warranty through their site directly. Go to http://www.squaretrade.com/get-warranty and put in 221744575898 which is the item number for the same item from the same seller. Later you can forward your purchase receipt from never-msrp to SquareTrade.
I personally prefer to buy their insurance which imo is better coverage. If a Samsung phone works fine within the first 14 days(return period for seller), I don't think you'd need warranty later on.

You mean you prefer to buy ATT insurance? Not sure if that's what you meant. Unfortunately, I don't see the 9250 in 64gb on their site. I might have to wait a bit.

I meant buy Squaretrade Insurance instead of Squaretrade warranty.
I'm cancelling out Sprint and going with Cricket, and was curious about this as well. I currently have an S3 that I've had since the release. Time for an upgrade and I am a bit torn between the s6's. I was originally going to wait for a G4, but the Flex 2 and the G3 was uncomfortable in my hands when compared to the S6. And I'll have a case on it, so it would be much more uncomfortable. Custom roms have made my life with my S3 a much more bearable one as I'm currently running Lollipop. I'll be getting two of whatever I decide on, but I need lte, no bloatware, and a lot of rom development so I can explore!

I think things have changed in development scene quite a bit since S3. I personally was a flashoholic and used to flash new roms/kernels daily. But as android evolved, I felt the need to try custom roms less and less. IMO there will be less number of custom roms as we move to each new generation of Android phones. If you really want tens of custom roms and kernel, go with a Nexus. Right now I have an S6 (coming from a Nexus) and waiting for my G9250 to arrive. I have not had any need to flash a custom rom. Having root is nice though.
Overall, IMHO If you want more roms, go with G925F/G920F. Otherwise G9250 has the most comprehensive network bands support. Root is available on pretty much all variants.
I ordered the 9250 w/64gb storage from Never MSRP but via their ebay listing. The most expensive phone I've every purchased, hopefully I can get some good life out of it. Should be arriving Monday. I compared all the bands and I think this was the way to go. I too am no longer flash happy with my phones. Although CM12 has been great on my OnePlus. I just want to be able to root the phone for simple things and more control. Still undecided about the Squaretrade insurance. I will decide within the month they give you.
I bought the g925i edge...I live in cali and using cricket, does that mean I won't get as many bands? I'm just worried about 4g speeds + call/text signal strength because I use it during school and work.
I finally received my 9250. To be clear, I had 920i for a few weeks on at&t. Before that, I had 925A. I feel data on 9250 is slightly faster than my 920i Attached is a series of speed test result in downtown Philadelphia which is a pretty congested area. My 925A speed tests in same area, had similar results so I do not think 9250 is any slower.

I also received my 9250 today. But for some reason the version I got G9250ZTU1AOCI isn't supported by ping pong root yet. I couldn't find the firmware on Sam mobile either. Any suggestions?

After an OTA, I'm on AOE4 and rooted using ping pong. Did you try to software update?

You have been incredibly helpful and if this works you have brightened my day! Did you try the bootloader unlock app (CROM) from the samsung app store? I did and it gave me a message that my bootloader is unlocked and I can install a custom ROM. Status is still official.
