Hi all.
I entered recovery mode (through the advanced reboot menu in CM, but that doesn't matter).
My power button doesn't work, and everything was fine without it until I entered recovery mode - now I can't exit it.
The problem is I can't select "reboot system now" from the recovery menu because power button is the selector (and as I said, it doesn't work) so I tried taking the battery out and then turning on but it enters recovery mode every time.
I didn't do anything through recovery mode so no harm was done to my working system.
Also, my PC doesn't recognize my phone when in recovery mode so I can't run adb commands. I don't know why - I have the latest usb drivers installed.
Is there any way to exit recovery mode without the power button?
Thanks a lot. :good:
Use touch CWM or Philz touch or TWRP
Ended up with fixing my power button.
Thanks any way.
By the way, discovered rainbow mode (volume down + up together) of CWM... pretty funny.

Hi all
I have used search and I can find results that pertain to other devices but not specifically Galaxy S3 (I9300).
I've been trying to flash a new ROM onto my phone.
To do this:
- I rooted the phone using Odin and installed CF Root + CWM package.
- After doing this, I did the 3 button reset to enter Recovery mode. However, the phone always entered into Download Mode (Odin Mode / "Downloading... Do not turn off target !!"). I was never able to enter Recovery mode.
- So I couldn't use the Recovery mode to install the ROM.
- Instead, I used ROM Manager to do the install (Cyanogen 9) but I did this without clearing the cache.
The result:
- Now if I leave the phone to boot, it enters Cyanogen 9 boot screen but stuck here looping.
- if I try to enter recovery mode to clear the cache, it only gives me download screen.
I've tried a few different uploads to get recovery mode (and it successfully uploads the files I send using Odin) however the phone still enters download mode after the flash.
I'm worried about doing the wrong steps if I follow advice from other sub-forums relating to other devices.
Any tips?
Many thanks.

The three button reset is power button + Home + Volume up to enter into recovery..
You are going to Download mode because you are pressing Power button + Home + Volume down key ...
Read this guide
Recovery mode is volume up while pressing home and then power.
Try this first and see if you can access recovery, if not then flash Philz recovery via odin and then boot into it to clear data, cache etc.
Make sure you read and understand how to use both odin and recovery before you start, otherwise you can brick your phone.

Thanks MoonBlade.
Funnily, I was pressing power + home + volume down to get download mode.
I tried pressing power + home + volume up, which successfully got me into recovery mode.
Strangely reversed.
This seems to have resolved the problem.

Hi, i have a big problem. The internet didn't work and i wanted to reboot the tablet, then it just bootloops. If I press power button+volume down it will show up a screen with 3 options:
1) Recovery Mode
2) Fastboot mode
3) Reboot
If I press recovery mode it will still bootloop, the same for the 3rd option, but if I press fastboot it will show up the text "Fastboot..."
Can anyone help me?
Hi,
I own galaxy s3 i9000, currently on custom rom. My phone automatically rebooted and got stuck on bootloop. If I am able to enter in recovery mode, i can wipe cache(which may can help to get out of bootloop). But the problem is I am unable to enter into recovery mode because phone's volume up button is not working and my phone auto reboots every time after power off or reinserting battery. Is there any other way to clear cache or enter into recovery mode?
I dont want to flash my stock rom via odin (because i didnt backup my some important apps and msgs), this will be my last option.
sorry for my bad english
The normal way I get my phone into recovery mode from the PC is using ADB and the command: "adb reboot recovery". However, I bet this won't work in your case for one of several possible reasons: depending on when the bootloop occurs in the boot process, the phone may never reach a point where ADB is able to see your phone in the first place; if this is happening after a flashing a new custom ROM, then also it's unlikely that USB debugging is turned and the PC is not yet authorized to connect with it over ADB.
Another thought, could your power button be stuck down? I had a GS3 SCH-I535 several years ago and the power switch went bad on it, it would keep rebooting, shutting down randomly, or I'd be unable to turn on the screen. I had a switch replaced and it was fine after that. I don't think it's normal for the phone to automatically boot up when you reinsert the battery, that's why I bring that up. Maybe you can wiggle the power button a bit and try to unstick it if that's the case.
I tried to remove and stick back the power button again, but still it didnt worked. By the way fixing power button will not help me to get into recovery mode as my phone's volume up button is also not working, and recently I found out that I cant enter into download mode too because when I press respective buttons (volume down + home + power) for download mode, it gives warning msg to click 'volume up' buttton to enter into download mode or 'volume down' to reboot. Therefore again volume up button is required to enter into download mode too. So the only option remained for me is to visit service center and fix the volume up button.
Recently did factory reset for my i9100, downloaded reboot manager and rebooted into recovery from that app.
Now I can't get out of recovery mode since power button doesnt work in there and my middle button is broken too.
VolUp and VolDwn work everywhere and I can turn phone on by power button.
Any help? I'm on 2.2.3
edit/ i also rooted the phone recently with kingroot via pc
Hi @noupls,
To get out of recovery mode, you need to take out your phone battery.
Once your phone is off, reinsert the battery. Then go into download mode (press and hold volume down + power button + home).
Once in download mode, flash stock ROM via ODIN (if you've already download the firmware files).
Saber.
With broken buttons, you're pretty much stuffed whatever you do with the device. You NEED to get them repaired/replaced ASAP.
In recovery, there should be an option
REBOOT SYSTEM (NOW)
With your broken buttons I'm pretty sure that'll be the only thing that works.
How can i remove the factory mode on my device, which is not allowing me to enter recovery mode?
When i turn my device on and hold the volume up button, instead of booting to recovery mode, the device boots into factory mode (which has a chinese factory mode menu). Due to this i cannot enter recovery mode without plugging the device into the PC and then running adb/fastboot then booting to recovery mode. Hence should anything go wrong with my device and it doesnt boot fully, i will be stuck with no access to a recovery mode. (as i wouldnt be able to use adb to get to the recovery mode)
P.S ive tried all combinations of buttons (i.e holding volume down as well with the power button) and it still goes to factory mode rather than recovery mode.
It is a mediatek device, can i unpack and make changes to the boot.img/system.img and then repack them and flash it back onto the device to resolve the issue or is there another way where i can boot to recovery mode without having to load up adb/fastboot first?
