[Q] How to enter recovery without screen? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 with broken screen, how can I get into recovery...
Second question, is there ADB in recovery?

yes you can enter recovery without touching the screen.
the requirements.
1. your pc must have adb installed.
2. adb drivers for your device must be installed on your pc
3. your device must be rooted.
4. developers options must be enabled on your device.
so to reboot into recovery
launch adb
type
adb devices
it will show the connected devices
it should be bunch of numbers
then
type
adb reboot recovery
thats it !!!
hit thanks if i helped you in anyway

Hello, thanks for tip, but...
I need adb shell in recovery, because my screen is black and I don't have USB debugging enabled. Is there any way?

help am I an idiot part 2

I spent the whole of yesterday trying to add MoDaCo custom rom. from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=552591 The first of my problems was that I couldn't get the right driver which now seems to be fixed now comes up as - ADB Interface -HTC Bootloader.
So this now means that when i go to fastboot I can load cyanogenMod (system recovery) by typing fastboot boot cm-hero-recovery.img
However none of these commands below in the CMD work. All i get is error: device not found
adb shell reboot bootloader (wait for device to reboot into bootloader)
fastboot boot cm-hero-recovery.img
adb shell mount /sdcard
adb push cm-hero-recovery.img /sdcard/cm-hero-recovery.img
adb shell flash_image recovery /sdcard/cm-hero-recovery.img
Any ideas please

Still sounds like a driver issue.. have you installed HTC + the SDK?
Restert ur handset into bootloader, hold power + back, then plugin the USB cable.. "FASTBOOT" (,In the red square) shoud change to FASTBOOT USB..
Skip the "adb shell reboot bootloader" and go straight to the next line and boot the recovery image via fastboot
should be plain sailing from there
It does change to fastboot usb on red. The only thing I can think of is do you have to install the sdk as I couldn't see a setup app. I just have all the files on the c dive. Will try skipping the first step when I get home
you dont install the sdk, just unzip it
thats right just the unzip, sorry, the drivers come with the SDK, if you still have no sucsess, do a Controll pannel > system >device manager then scan for device changes, if it finds the device select to install drivers and point it to the SDK folder

Done that as well. If My device runs fastboot this should mean the drivers are correct.

yes if u succeed to enter fastboot, it means it had recognised the phone? are u using windows 7 by the way? cause u have to download the precise drivers for the OS u r using whether x64, win 7 ....
I seem to remember having problems with this until I enabled the USB debugging mode in the options somewhere.
As for drivers, I'm running Windows 7 x64 and the x64 Vista drivers did the job fine.

Adb and device unauthorized

Hi!
I have RN2 with MIUI 16.6.7.0 with root access.
ADB v1.0.32
Win 8.1
If I run "adb devices" when phone is running system, I get response "s/n device" as I should. But when I boot phone to recovery (MI-Recovery 2.0.1) I get "s/n unauthorized".
I have tried rebooting PC and phone, disabling and enabling USB debugging, deleting adbkey and adbkey.pub on PC (only instance was in users/user/.android/), revoking USB debugging authorizations, changing USB ports. Nothing.
The last thing I did:
1. reboot phone to system.
2. developer options > turn developer options on/off > turn debugging on/off <> Revoke USB Debugging Authorization
3. reconnect phone to PC
4. was asked: RSA key fingerprint + always allow from this computer > OK
5. run "adb devices" gives "s/n device"
6. disconnect phone
7. power off phone
8. phone to recovery
9. reconnect phone
10. run "adb devices" gives "s/n unautorized"
11. disconnect phone from USB
12. run "adb kill-server"
13. run "adb start-server"
14. reconnect phone
15. run "adb devices" gives "s/n unautorized"
I guess something is wrong with recovery mode on the device. Any ideas?
Thank you
MK
+ run "adb shell" gives " error: device unauthorized. This adbd's $ADB_VENDOR_KEYS is not set; try 'adb kill-server' if that seems wrong. Otherwise check for a confirmation dialog on your device."
+ from hxxps://android.googlesource.com/platform/system/core/+/d5fcafaf41f8ec90986c813f75ec78402096af2d
"On the device, vendors public keys are installed at build time in /adb_keys. User-installed keys are stored in /data/misc/adb/adb_keys."
On my device user-installed keys are stored in /data/misc/adb/adb_keys. The only other instance of adb_keys is /bin/adb_keys. If it has any relevance.
You need to check in the device the popup, the device ask if you want authorize your computer for connection with adb, remember you need to enable adb debug first with push 7 times on miui version into about device.
In recovery adb isn't available you can enable only the adb transfer from the advance menu.

Hi!
Thanks a million for your reply. :good:
I did all that already in steps 2, 4 and 5 and it worked. My problem is adb in stock recovery mode.

Damn I have much to learn (hundreds of pages in a few days and I still dont know anything . So stock recovery doesn't come with ADB access and I am trying to do something that can not be done? ClockworkMod recovery for example should have ADB support if I understand correctly?
I also have that proble my device not connected to phone what I do tell me..

If problem is PC <> phone then install drivers for your phone on PC.
Or describe your problem better.

boot loop with broken volumes buttons

Hi all, I wonder if anybody can help with this.
my volume buttons are not working (hardware issue) and I was trying to install TWRP and a custom rom but, after installing TWRP the phone now always boots in recovery mode (at least this is what adb tells me) but TWRP does not really start, I keep seeing only "honor, powered by android" black screen.
adb is working but not fastboot. I tried to reboot to bootloader but it always go to recovery instead. I have no su, and I am stuck just with adb in recovery.
any idea?
If you have full adb access maybe you can restore your backup directly from it
Thanks Rayan
how? what do you mean by "full adb access"?
I tried to run adb sideload but it does not work (it says "closed" shortly after without doing anything)
I don't really understand what the issue is, do you have access to TWRP menu or not at all? And when you say that you can use adb, is the device recognized when you type adb devices ? And what happens when you try to boot in bootloader and use fastboot? Can you try to the command "adb reboot bootloader"?

Thanks Rayan, I finally solved replacing the volume buttons (found cheap ones). However adb was working but no matter which command I was sending (adb reboot bootloader) the phone was always rebooting in recovery mode but TWRP was not starting properly (could not see anything)
with volume buttons I managed to enter into bootloader, reflash TWRP and do everything I needed
Thanks

How to get Android Bootloader Interface with a cube U30 GT C4H

Hi,
I am new in this topic and not a great geek ans please excuse mi for my aprroximative english ! but i am trying to convert an old cube tablet to a domotic tablet. So i have to flash the old rom to a newer like lineageos for example.
So the tablet is an U30GT C4H with android 4.2.2 and the original rom.
I connect the device to my Mac Os and with adb tools (from plateform tools find here) and terminal i wrote adb devices (tablet on) i see the device. OK
When i command fastboot devices, nothing, no line
When i command adb reboot-bootloader, the tablet take off and the screen keep black. With the terminal fastboot devices, no response, with adb devices command > List of devices attached but no more, no device.
With this tablet it is possible to start in recovery mode with power + audio down but with this option i have the android logo and no command. If i take power on no change.
If with adb command and tablet on, i write adb reboot recovery, the tablet restart and the screen see logo android and no command.
I know this kind of topic do not interese a lot of people but i would like use this cube for my house to command domotic (music, heaters etc..). More, i think it's a shame not to recycle this type of device for the planet !!!
Thanx
Fastboot only works if in your tablet's Android's Settings -> Developer options the option OEM unlock got enabled and tablet got restarted afterwards.
i don't see any option OEM in the menu developer
I found that the solution is use slideload protocol. I reseted the tablet and now i get recovery mode. Then i can connect the tablet to my Mac and use terminal with slideload lines. OK
But each time the process failed with rom i found on the net...
Is there an universal rom !!!
Any idea ?
You don't have to boot the device into Recovery mode:
Code:
adb devices
adb reboot sideload
adb sideload <PROPERLY-SiIGNED-FILE.ZIP>
adb reboot
BTW: adb sideload is meant to re-flash Stock ROMs only.

maybe the issue is the rom i doawnloaded ?
it is kasty-cube_u30gt_h-411-111-rooted4_4gb.zip
or
kasty-cube_u30gtc4-441-20131212-rooted4.zip
both failed.
Perhaps i have to unlock the bootloader as you said but i don't know
I'm pretty sure the 2 mentioned ROMs are a Custom ROM. Hence you can't use adb sideload method to flash them. To install a Custom ROM it's required that a Custom Recovery already got installed on device's Android.
I don't find any way to instal a recovery. I had arctools.zip but the app failed to acess to the SD disk or internal storage...
