[Q] Making menus stay open all the time. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Being my first app, I hid most of the functionality behind menu-key menus. I now want those menus to be there all the time.
how do I do so? I probably should have used buttons or tabs in the layout or something, but it would be so easy at this point if I could just inject some code that would allow those menus to stay open no matter what.

[Q] Apps on their own screens

would it be at all possible to make apps stay open on their own screens.. so maybe when i see the screen previews it would allow me to switch screens and apps... similar to webos?.. hmmm...
No, that's no possible because of the way Android handles switching applications. When you switch an application, it is paused and its state saved. This is done so if the system needs to free up memory, it can kill the process, and when you select the application again, it will resume from the saved state.
If I understand you correctly you are asking for something like workspaces or virtual desktops, which does not translate well into the mobile sphere. However, you can approximate what you want by using the "Recent Apps" functionality by long-pressing the home button to switch applications. But neither should be necessary, because a properly written application is supposed to note its state and resume where you left off when you select it again. If that is not happening, it is probably due to something in the way the application was coded.
Perhaps reading the documentation on Acitivitiesand Tasks will help you understand what is happening you run an application, and why sometimes the Back button does things you don't expect it to.

How to modify quick access menu on android 2.42?

When you swing your finger down on android 2.42 you see that well known notifications menu. However there is a new tab called "Quick Access".
Devs dropped there what they imagine would be useful (their imagination always stops in a half way).
So is there any possibility to edit this menu?
I'm looking in the configuration menus but I can't find anything.
Thanks.

[Q] Scroll ListView programmatically while touching the screen.

Hey guys, maybe the title is little confusing so let's make it clear.
Many of you know the Go Dev Team and the Go Launcher. The Go Launcher has the feature, that allows to scroll the list, while dragging the icon over the boundaries. I need to implement something like this in my app, but I've encountered some problems, maybe my approach is incorrect.
The main problem is, that it is hard to scroll the list while the screen is being touched already.
1. Dispatching touch events to the ListView while touching the screen equals kaboom.
2. Methods like smoothScrollBy are great, but they behave in different way while touching the screen. They will scroll the list only by height of the screen, no matter how many times this method is invoked. After that the ACTION_CANCEL event is generated and I'm loosing control over dragging object, so I can't scroll further.
3. The scrollBy method in View. When using it on ListView it creates empty space while scrolling. I think I am scrolling whole container then, so I don't see any chances here.
And here goes the question. Has anybody tried something like this and can tell more about it?

Small Apps - any way to change or disable this?

So, can anything be done with the Small Apps? (I think that's what it's called - the little buttons @ the bottom that you can use to bring up the calculator or the remote control?)
I wouldn't mind it being there if I could select what it did - personally, I have not planned to use my tablet as a giant calculator and do very little arithmetic while using it. Also, I don't really need to use it as a giant remote control (though it's cool that I could, I guess). And the browser would actually be handy if it didn't only open to a tiny blank window.
Anyone know of a way to change the apps that this offers, or failing that, to turn it off altogether? Haven't seen anything except some implications that you can't remove it, but I'm always optimistic...

Change system event

Hello Guys,
I have programed a few apps for android but would like to try and modify something that goes a bit deepter into the system. I have no idea where to even start looking and what to look for.
What I want to do is to change the event what happens when you (long) click the system navigation buttons. Apps only catch them when active. But I globaly want to change it. I guess I dont need to compile the whole kernel but "just" change a part of the system that handles these buttons and events. In SlimRoms its possible to customize these buttons so it must be possible somewhow. Although I want to change it on a phone with three hardware buttons on the bottom and not the onscreen navigation bar.
Can anyone point me in a direction?
Thx a lot!
Regards
