I have a tremendous problem. Everything is OK until I put the phone on charge.. Then weird things tend to happen.
1. The brightness goes to the maximal level even though I've set it at a lower level.
2. While charging, the screen is constantly ON, rolling some ****ty videos advertisements.
3. My home screen tab changes to the central one.
4. MY PICTURES AND VIDEOS DISAPPEAR!!! That applies to ALL THE PICTURES AND VIDEOS THAT I'VE TAKEN. The only ones that stay are the pics send me from WhatsApp and the screenshots of my screen.
The phone is with basic settings. Any help will be appreciated.

First of all thanks for the quick answer!
The brightness isn't on Auto, but that's the least of the 4 problems that I have.
When it comes to the screen the "Stay awake" it turned off and the screen is still ON while charging. The ads are about the phone itself "Sony Xperia Z2 the best phone bla bla bla"
My biggest problem is the loss of pics/videos.

Oh.... Problem is serious than I thought.... I think somehow displaymode has turned on and it resets all your data or hiding your data. I am not sure how it happened, but I think if you haven't root or unlock the bootloader you are better to take it to shop and ask?
Also before take it to shop try to connect to Z2 to your PC, there might be some photo left in internal storage?
P.S I found that enter the "*#*#73556673#*#*" to dialer turns off demo mode. I am not sure if it works for you but it worse try it.
Still looking for how to get back your photos and videos. I will share the solution as soon as I find it

This might sound wierd, but:
How can I be sure that there is no program or website taking photos or videos
from my phone camera, while I regularly use it or browsing??
I mean, I have used IP webcam to broadcast the video from my android tablet to my ubuntu laptop, and it even has a hidden mode.
How are we sure that there is no some app or webpage duing something like that??
This question also comes to my mind, because the laptop webcam has a blue led that turns on when the camera is in use, but there is nothing in the tab?
Check whats running in the background.... and check the permissions of the apps installed on your phone.. thats it

Easy answer is get gemini app manager. When it shows all your installed apps it will tell you which can use the camera and other phone features.

Well while I do think he is being unduly suspicious the only sure way for him to see that is to be able to see there are no unknown apps that can use the camera and by doing so alleviate his concerns.

Your post was correct and to-the-point, no doubt about that.
What I am saying is that by enabling this paranoia, we are doing more harm than good.
And this is not uncommon in Android. For example, many apps require permission to use camera. Gallery apps, photo editing apps, social network apps, you name it. It's simply so that they can have a tiny little button that says : "Take a new photo".
If a developer wants to capture photos without you knowing, he can do it and his app can look pretty legit too.
See where I'm going with this? It's high time we started saying things the way they are.
So, I stand by my point.
@OP: no one wants to see pictures of you THAT bad.

I agree. One thing some android users often seem to skip is the bit prior to app installation where it says exactly what features the app can access. If they see something suspicious there, say a live wallpaper that can dial phone numbers for example, they can just not install it.

Maybe there are fixes for my issues. As I am new to android I'm not sure how to get them corrected. Here's a list. Maybe someone can land a hand.
How to keep screen on while on a charger.
How to make the GPS turn on and off when app starts and finishes.
How to set so it can detect a known wifi source, then activate wifi.
How to get the long lasting battery results everyone seems to be getting.
How to set the email app to open to the emails versus the screen to select which account to view as I have multiple accounts set up.
How to keep the lockscreen front turning off 3 seconds after I hit the wake button but not swiping to unlock.
That's about it for now. I come from an iphone ecosystem and am used to a few features my JB iphone provides. I'm sure ill have more "how to" questions.
Thank you all for the responses!

dunno... doesn't bother me. It takes me less than 3 seconds to come to a decision on what the hell I want to do

Sounds like you are very new to Android, so you have normal questions. First thing it to figure out what the settings for your phone do. Theres always the Samsung forums for asking about your specific device also. I'm not sorry if that all sounds harsh. It was meant to. icrappers turning Android annoy me. There's an amazing app called Tasker that will do a lot of your wish list. It's all about contexts - e.g. "on external power" "App {x} is in the foreground." It's the best ~$6 you'll ever spend, and never want to have another phone with out it. Almost all of it's awesome functions work without root, too.

As to you wanting the lockscreen to stay on longer, there are several lockscreen replacements you could use. I'm not sure which ones have the option besides widgetlocker though. With widgetlocker, you can set the lockscreen timeout to various durations. I know it worked on my infuse, not sure about the note though.
The downside is that it costs a couple bucks and it will drain your battery a bit if I remember correctly because it keeps the device in a wakelock and does not allow deep sleep. Its not a huge battery drain, but it does some. However, if the timeout is more important than a tiny amount of battery drain, I suggest doing that.

Is there an Android app that monitors your cell phone and how it is used? I am looking for a program that will log when my phone is unlocked, what apps are used, what messages are read, what pics are sorted through, etc.
Sometimes throughout the day I have to leave my phone around the house or at my desk and if people are trying to access it, I want to know about it and what they do on it. I tried googling it and I found one or two apps but they did not do what I wanted them to do. Thank you!

If you copy it to the correct destination, it should work... They might mentioned the TB mod, cause it's much easier just to tap restore, and you dont have to google for the destination, it takes it to the correct place
Don't do that.
Use torrent or something else.
Coz one I was on YouTube in portrait mode for at least 1/2 hour... half of my screen got burnt with a blue shade. Thankfully it has gone now after a week (it ideally can't go... but I might have reversed burned it without knowing). Try your best not to burn it, it will look ugly and might need to be replaced.

Couldn't you just use this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nkahoang.screenstandby it puts the display off and keeps the phone on. Also i have done this loads of times and no sign of burn in. Oops sorry just read you're not rooted it may not work

Hamdogg! You are EVERYWHERE and always helping people. Did you get your phone back from service? I love your videos btw. I've lurked too long here without posting.
And, I actually want the phone to do nothing when I connect it to the charger. If I'm browsing chrome while the phone is on charge, and I accidentally disconnect the cable, the entire page refreshes. If I'm playing a game or watching a movie, and I'm running low on charge and connect the magnetic cable, then the entire app refreshes and I lose all progress.
I have a feeling it is an Android thing, it treats 'Docking' as some kind of special event, and was wondering if someone could figure out a way to disable it, in their custom rom or through an Xposed module. This is a very specific request, I can imagine, because very few people will have phones with magnetic charging ports and even fewer will use it to charge their phone on a regular basis.

LOL... well, thats what XDA is all about... Thats what I think its about anyway.
Thanks for watching my videos. Gotta try and help if you can..
I'll look into it with my ROM and see what the device is doing when its docks. It may just be a simple titanium backup 'freeze' that would stop it.
Actually try that. freeze sony connect and then dock the ultra and see what happens.
got my phone back a week before xmass... 8 weeks away! man that was a killer!

I can't find a 'Sony Connect' in Titanium Backup.
Actually I'm not sure if it will be as simple as that. Because I experienced the same refreshing issue and auto rotate issue when I was using PA as well.
What you are describing is controlled by setting/display/daydream.

Even with Daydream turned off I'm experiencing the same refreshing and autorotate effect. And I can't seem to find any way to freeze daydream in titanium backup.

Does anyone else have the same issues with their Xperia Z Ultra? When I connect my phone to a magnetic charging cable, the app that I'm currently in refreshes. The phone thinks it is being docked and the screen auto rotates as well.

I hate this, guess it's give & take without having to remove case/un fasten usb seal everytime to charge! I've learned to be extremely careful, but one slip &....
& I believe I set it to do nothing the first time I connected the dock charger, & before I deleted the app it still refreshed & rotated

hi All,
I found this problem too at Kitkat .757. the screen is auto refresh when using magnetic charging. widget, icon, everything at homescreen is refresh. the nightmare is if I'm on playing game or everything on fullscreen mode, BOOM..! the screen suddenly freeze / un-response. can't back to home screen, using power+volUp instead to force restart. try to remove any recent installed app but no result, the problem still exist. from deduction (noob) the problem is the launcher, coz I didn't find this problem on APEX. I dunno.. :/
[FIXED!] 'Dock Mode' and Magnetic Charging
I found the solution to this issue.
If you are rooted, install Xposed and Mohammad Ag's Disable Desk Dock. Solved all my issues.
I think the dev of this module has an Xperia Z1 and has made some of the most amazing and useful modules for Xposed. I highly recommend checking them out and making a donation if you can!

ah really, no thanks. I don't interested to install other unknownly framework to my system.
for the first week I use magnetic charging and the issue (self-refresh) not happen. I'm not sure too, but I think some apk from market bring this issue..

1. Both "Xposed Framework" and the module in question are open source, so go ahead and check the code.
2. Mohammad is one of the most popular and trusted module developer around, so nothing here is "unknown".
Should you be aware of modules that you find randomly on the internet? Yes. Definitely. But you're at XDA now, and the great thing about that is that if something's not right, you'll hear it. There are thousands of people installing Xposed modules at all times, and i'll bet some of them have checked the code in the most popular modules.
thanks for this, was going nuts trying to find a way to disable that annoying thing
