So a friend from China is in town, (In the USA), but she is still on 4.1.2 due to the constant conflict between Google and China. Due to that there is no way she will ever get an Ota update.
How would I go about updating her stock unrooted to the most recent version? She uses services that use sim cards over there and she uses family mobile in the USA.
I've updated stock uprooted to latest version of the SPH-L710 but not the I9300. Some process? If so can someone give me direction to the standard non specific carrier most recent version?
Also, via Odin, will this wipe all her personal information and wipe internal storage? Or just update as if it was over the air (ota)

If I wanted to receive OTA updates with my i9100 and have flashed a stock rom (KI3) on it, does anyone know if it will notify me? KIES does not check for me anymore since the firmware is "not official" which I thought it was, but I would like to know if I could flash it to an earlier version and receive an update OTA. I have had a few issues with my device every time I flash it which continues to annoy me. Such as clearing data of certain apps to get them to work properly. I would rather not clear the data on my phone after every update and would like to just wait for new releases patiently. Anyone have a clue if this will work before I waste my time?
You will not revealed ota updates unless you are on the correct stock rom, and if kies doesn't see it as stick I really don't think you will gt ota.
Also ota is only avaliable on a limited number of carriers/regions.

My phone is unlocked and I have received them before. After the KIES update it does not recognize my phone now. I have heard that even if I go back to a previous firmware then it won't recognize it still. I got the firmware from Intratech's thread and they are all official releases, I am unsure why KIES says it is not the official firmware.
Has no one else tried this? It seems like something someone would have done. I don't want to use KIES anymore, but I would really like to know if I can start updating via OTA instead of flashing new firmwares that require me to clear data on the majority of my apps to get them to work properly.
OTA updates and how they work are not something we have any information for .
OTA will probably look at he same codes as Kies to update . Wrong codes from firmware = no update .
Plus neither will update if no update from the provider on the server .

I also have a SGS2 with a flashed ROM (is an original 2.3.4 unbranded, but is not the one which came with the phone) and also my phone is ROOTed.
Could that be why I also cannot use Samsung Dive services?
Okay so I have a regular stock Verizon Samsung Galaxy s4 . I've been using it with my T-Mobile Service & SIM Card in the phone. Works quite Perfect. The original baseband firmware version that I had in my phone was: ME7. I heard that there was an update to "MJ7" that was rolling out, updating the firmware in the phone to android 4.3, along with unlocking some other cool device capabilities such as the other LTE and AWS bands. So naturally I downloaded the Samsung KIES program for my PC in order so I could connect my phone and get the firmware upgrade. Upon connecting my phone Samsung KIES did indeed say that there was a new version available for download that would upgrade my phone to the MJ7 version. I decided backup my phone first before performing the upgrade. After doing so the next day I connected my phone to my computer and opened the KIES program, and it told me that time that the new firmware version available for my phone was MI1!?!? Not MJ7 like it said the day before. I thought that was a bit strange but then I thought that maybe I had to upgrade to that version before I could upgrade to the "MJ7". I allowed it to upgrade my phone to MI1. After it upgraded I went back and checked for another update and now it is telling me that I have the most current firmware version in my phone..."MI1". I rebooted my phone and PC several times and checked for updates and it still hasn't daid that MJ7 was available! What have I done to you? Did I do something wrong? Why did Samsung Kies initially tell me that MJ7 was available but now it will not anymore, after updating to MI1 ( the version that it told me was the most current release) this all happened on this past saturday and sunday. I would definitely appreciate any help whatsoever in uncovering this firmware update mystery, and the ability to update my phone to firmware version MJ7. Not only do I want the Android 4.3 but since I am using this phone on tmobile it will give me extra functionality to use the LTE BANDS on GSM instead of just 3G or H+. Thanks in advance to all!

I read something about Samsung pulling the 4.3 update for some carriers... due to an issue with the Wi-Fi maybe? It may have shown up on Kies, then been pulled. I'm sure it will be back once they get the issues sorted out. Or you could possibly look for an update.zip on here and manually do the update yourself
I've just revived an OTA on my rooted international Galaxy S3.,
It says in the "Update Details" *You cannot downgrade to the old Software after this new software upgrade, due to the security reason.
This makes me think there going to lock my bootloader or something and if that's the case I'll just delete the update and change the phones internal settings so it won't download OTA's.
Recently I've been keeping my phones pretty much stock, a few small tweaks and a few apps that require root,
I'm thinking it will probably just fail the OTA update with the phones status now saying / being modified.
I've also got Mobile Odin installed with enable Everoot, Inject SuperSU and Inject Mobile Odin.
Has anyone been through this ( Int SGS3 Stock Samsung firmware, rooted with chainfires root software - OTA to 4.3 from 4.1.2 if you have how did you get on ??
Any help greatly appreciated.

OTA will fail if you have rooted. If you want to update to 4.3 then best results come from wiping, format internal storage then flash MK6 via odin.
S9+ Update help
Hello I have an AT&T S9+ That was stuck on the ARF4 Version, using Firmware.science I was able to get it to version ARG8, my goal is to get to Android Pie.
My question is, should I keep updating following the order on Firmware.science, or should I update from ARG8 to ARI6 to ARIB to RJ5 until I get to SAG Like in the table here in this AT&T Article?
https://www.att.com/devicehowto/tut...89?make=Samsung&model=SamsungG965U&gsi=1p0npl
If your going to install android 9 using the patched Odin and downloads from SamMobile/SamFirm/etc then I would just update using the latest update.
I would suggest using the non home_csc if you do. This will cause the phone to act like it was factory data reset, but it will ensure that all of the update has been applied. Granted you will have to reinstall everything, so if you have any backups via Samsung Smart Switch it could help cut down the time spent restoring your data.
Again it's a suggestion, you could probably use the other CSC file, but I have found that doing so could lead into problems... at least on mine it had, but only for the software update via OTA. Since I plan on using SamFirm/Odin for updates I am not concerned about it.
Using this route would give you the current OS release and all updates in one go... its not like an incremental update that you have to apply in a specific order (like with some Windows OS updates and hotfixes)
I got a new S9+ for my wife who does NOT want a rooted phone and all that that entails.
I was active in rooting many years ago, but have not strayed from the straight and narrow for some time.
I have a new unlocked SMG965U (not bought from Verizon) recently activated. It is Android 8.0.0, firmware .....BRK1 (I don't have the phone in front of me at the moment), last (and only) security patch dated Nov 1, 2018. I have noted from Verizon's web site they have moved up to pie, and have had quite a few security updates since that time. Looking for updates on the phone or through Smart Switch tells me the phone is up to date. There's a Verizon-Samsung utility that runs on PC for updating software that give an error message to the effect of "Firmware on phone does not support updating".
So, could someone point me in the right direction to determine, first, if it's possible to update the phone without rooting with stock firmware, and which guide I should use? Does Odin require a rooted phone, or is it simply a matter of me locating the proper update and following Odin directions?
Thanks
Odin does not require root and yes just need the correct update Sam mobile has all the latest files you need to use odin I would go there for what you need
