Hi,
I wonder if someone can help.
I have a Pioneer Dreambook, i dont know the model number. It is similar in appearance to the Dreambook F10 but has different specs and hard buttons.
If you need the specs i can give them to you, but it currently runs windows 7.
I have been able install android on to it using andoid - x86, and tried multiple versions of the x86s, but all seem to unstable, the OS doen't control the hardware buttons correctly and doesn't rotate the screen unless an app forces it to rotate. Also I cannot put the tablet into "sleep" mode, only use a software option to turn the device off.
Once the device is off it is virtually impossible to restart the device and load android without using the x86 debugger.
I have seen on the web that devices like the hp tablet running web os is possible it install android effectively and that it is possible to install android onto a windows device, but surely there must be a better solution than what i currently have.
I tried to install Cyanogen but the windows installer wouldn't detect the tablet, presumably because it is not a support device, but i did read that it is possible to install Cyanogen on an non supported device.
If there is anymore information i can give please let me know, and any help or advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Sam
Hi guys,
After reading very helpful post about how to write good posts/questions I realise that my issue maybe too specific.
I understand that with android the os needs to have some sort of tailoring to different devices.
But there are examples out there of similar applications of android on non android devices.
As I said earlier I already have installed android using android x86.
Let me then rephrase my question...
The issues described earlier, are they a result of the x86 method of installing android or are they the device simply incompatible with android (which I find hard to believe)?
Thank you to all the people who took the time to read my post and once again, any help would be invaluable.
Thanks,
Sam

Android on the HD2 - is it just run from the microSD card or an actual "ROM" ?
I'm not new to ROMs (been mucking around with cell phones and PocketPCs for many many years now) but I'm a bit confused about the Android situation with respect to the HD2 (just found one, literally found one, and if I can get it functional I'm keeping it).
I see all these "ROMs" here and I have to ask the question:
Are they actually ROMs that I'd be using to replace the Windows Mobile stock factory ROM, or all these just "ROMs" that exist in a folder on the microSD card and I simply run some executable that fires up Android as though it were just another application running on top of Windows Mobile?
Trying to make the question simple so I hope that's enough. Wasn't sure exactly where to put it so Q&A seemed the best choice.
Thanks for any information anyone can provide.

the latter...you fire up haret which shuts down windows and loads android. android does not / cannot (for the time being) exist without windows. if you remove the sd card, android ceases to exist on your phone; windows cannot be removed.
hope that answers your question.
Ok, so when you say that one app "shuts down windows" does that mean that Android fires up and is in complete control of the device as though it had actually booted off it directly from ROM, or is it running as an application on top of Windows Mobile, that's where I get confused.
I saw a reference that some Android builds on the HD2 actually run faster or at least they benchmark higher than a real Android device like the Nexus One. I find that tough to believe but hey, if the HD2 can do it, awesome...

my understanding is it shuts windows down - it is not running as an app on top of windows, though uses the hardware to fire android. when android runs it is in control of the device. you cannot have windows and android running at the same time.
"But Maaaaaaa" (ala Eric Cartman, South Park)
Ok, so we can only run Android from the SD card. But this begs the question....WHY? What is it about the HD2 that precludes the ability to remove Winjunk altogether?
To be able to run android directly from ROM, Android needs to use NAND.
AFAIK NAND is available, but noone knows how to use it directly.
Developpers are busy trying [thread], but until now without success, however signs are it is nearly completed.
As far as I understand, NAND preloads some drivers needed for Android. (like CLRCAD which is needed for sound)
Someone knows answer to folowing:
If NAND is possible/available, will booting Android be faster? Will the "Linux boot output" disappear or not.
Until now I think Android is booting (very) slow, partially due to the "Linux boot output" (scrolling lines)
Just a quick one as I haven't been able to find a post about it so far...
For those who have heard of PSFreedom, there's a build for the HD2, but it has Android bundled with it because it's aimed at WinMo users.
I am already running Android on mine and dont want to inadvertently copy over vital files so does anyone know/has anyone tried and managed to get it to work?
Pav
Its not bundled with android because its aimed at winmo users, It has android because the whole android build is custom and needs to be that way(currently). I'm sure sometime soon it will be possible to add to a current android build but for now you have to use it this way.
The easiest thing to do is to download one of the multi loaders for winmo, which lets you have multiple builds of android on you sd card and select which one you boot into. I currently have the PSfreedom build plus four other builds on my SD card and I just select which one I want to boot.
Nice one mate, thanks! I'm gonna trawl for a multi loader and give it a go now
what exactly does this app do? have a ps3 but never heard of this...
Its a custom build of android that allows you to "jailbreak" the ps3 so that you are able to run homebrew and backup games on it. It needs to be used each time the ps3 is turned on to re-jailbreak it.
It started out as a usb stick with a processor on it that you plugged into the ps3, each time it was turned on. but it has now been ported to many devices.
Heres the link for the android build that has been made for the hd2.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=777120
With the multi-loaders that we have, it's not really that inconvenient to boot into the android build each time. It would be nice though if it could somehow be added to the current full android builds that we have, though I'm not sure if that is even possible as I don't know how it works.
Hello friends!
I have a Chinese BML One mini phone (I know it's crappy, but I had no choice), and I'm trying to start an android development with it.
I was aware that it might be hard to find any drivers for that phone, so I decided to use linux (opensuse 13.1) as a development machine (hopefully it requires no extra drivers).
The problem is that device seems to be invisible for the eclipse.
When I do in eclipse "run as - android application" - it says that there is no suitable device found and suggests to create a virtual one.
Usb debugging is on. Phone keyboard is unlocked.
The project is created to run on android 2.2. (The phone says that it is 4, but while digging here on the forum I found that it is really 2.3.5)
Is there any special way of connecting that phone to the PC? Hold secret combination of buttons maybe?
(As far as I know galaxy nexus for example is also invisible for eclipse when you connect it as a flash drive, so you have to connect it as camera.)
The problem is even worse as my laptop is too weak for the development on emulator, so that mobile was the only chance to start android development.
I would be grateful for any answers and links.
Thank you.
Hej hej! Please share any thoughts why it could be? Any suggestion of what to try? Does anyone experienced any device recognition problems with Chinese mobiles on any OS? Is there something special with connection MocorDroid to PC?
What would you try?
Please give me at least a direction to dig.
Thanks
The main issue is that it's not an official Android version and the fact that they modded it to read the wrong Android version there is almost nothing you can do. Mix in the fact that there IS no kernel source code there will not be much you can do at all with development for that device.
Hello, thank you for the answer. You inspired me to search in Chinese internet using google translate, and that is what I've found:
One need to find the vendor and device id using lsusb command
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 1782:5d04 Spreadtrum Communications Inc
These 1782:5d04 is actually a device and vendor id.
Then we need to write it to /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules file in that way:
SUBSYSTEM=="usb",ATTRS{idVendor}=="1782",ATTRS{idProduct}=="5d04",MODE="0666"
And also add "0x1782" without quotes to /home/XXX/.android/adb_usb.ini file.
If you don't have any of these files, create it. Note that 51-android.rules should have 644 permissions.
Than I googled for "0x1782" and found these two links, so I think that problem is not only chinese-fake-android-specific:
stackoverflow. com/questions/9210152/set-up-device-for-development-no-permissions
sudotask. wordpress.com/2013/10/30/how-to-adb-on-open-suse
It could be also problem with permissions like described here:
stackoverflow. com/questions/6484279/detecting-device-for-debugging-adb-does-not-work
So, now I able to use my mobile for Android development! Wait for more garbage in play market!
Thank you!

I have the same model. Great hardware, lousy os. Crouton with ubuntu trusty build runs well if you are a little computer savvy and dont mind typing in terminal commands. It runs parallel to chrome. I have heard you can install linux native on this model, but have never tried.
Hello, If you find a way how to install android apps on Acer CB5-311 chromebook, will be great. Thank you!
Yeah, it is possible.

I know you porobably solve your problem, or change your device, but i want to reply to it, if anyone else are searching for answers.
Because of drop of support for this device a have decided to move to linux.
On internet are some scrips, which can do it by one or two clicks, but they are old today and it's i bit more tricky today.
In general, you can use arch linux, which instalation still work, but graphical session doesn't start (i don't know why, i'm not expert on arch). You can use Clifford script, which don't work for today, because chrome os karnel has been changed and it is more difficult to use it.
So i install arch linux, with working kernel a delete it's rootfs. Into it i installed ubuntu-base 18.04, update, instal basic packages and kubuntu desktop.
Suprisingly it work very well, even graphic acceleration works.
If anyone wan't to know, how did i do it, i can help.
But i think no one is using it today, except few people like me.
Hy! need help cb5-311

I need help to change chrome OS with linux on my old acer cb5-311. [email protected] Thank you!
In case no one has known yet, the CB5-311 is running an Nvidia Tegra K1 processer if I'm not mistaken. Therefore, because it is an ARM-based device, using another OS other than ChromeOS is impossible as far as I can tell.
Good to know about the Tegra k1 processor...
Hey, sorry for waiting.
Here is some linux images for this device: https://github.com/hexdump0815/imagebuilder
It is prepared to flash on SD and boot from it. From this awesome develeper can be also found the linux kernel for this chromebook.
It is also posible to did something similar like chrubuntu did earlier, it means flash kernel to KERNEL C partition and boot from internal storage (but my 16 GB internal storage is i bit small)
Good luck, with this.
P. S . only problem is with graphic drivers. Drivers provided from NVIDIA is for ubuntu 14 and they are too old to use. So you you have to regret hardware acceleration (or find another way how to make it work).
Read also the the issues and releases on github.
Second way is to use archlinux. There is and script, which will do anything for you.
https://github.com/RaumZeit/LinuxOnAcerCB5-311 even if this script isn´t for my CB5-311-T23S, it works.
If you don´t know how to resize internal storage and flash working kernel, it is posible to use this script and install arch linux and later back up kernel modules, format partition with root and there install ubuntu base. ArchKernel work fine with it, but latest working version is ubuntu 18. (Snap don´t work on this old kernel). If you want ubuntu 20 (or newer), you will have to use kernel from hexdump0815 mentioned earlier)
Hi,
While am new to Android, I have been repairing older PCs using Hiren's 15.2 (more info "Download Hiren's Boot CD 15.2 for Windows" https://downloads.tomsguide.com/Hiren-s-Boot-CD,0301-51033.html).
Usually I boot to Mini Windows XP instead of DOS.
Have been looking for something similar for Android, especially a "Mini Android OS" that will boot from a mSD Card or USB Drive.
Thanks
Ken
To boot where? On pc or mobile device

Hi a602820922,
Sorry about the confusion!
The "Bootable Android Diagnostic & Repair mSD Card or USB Dr" would boot on mobile devices (Not PCs).
Since posting I thought of another use for a "Mini Android OS". To reuse older Android Phones for "application specific" uses such as audio and/or video only.
I hope something like this exists! Have been searching but to date have not found "Mini Android OS".
PS but have found many lightweight Linux Distros For Old PC! Maybe I am using wrong keywords in my searches? Appreciate any suggestions or comments.
Thanks
Ken
As far as I know that there is nothing like that for mobile phones. No bootable mini android is available.
But there's plenty of them available for PC which can be rooted and you can transfer your data in there..
Android it self is already a bootable media device , and any temporary files would overwrite your existing files which would lead to make your device unbootable for your installed ROM.
However I have seen something similar for Samsung mobile phones, something on the card, which booted up when you installed a battery. But that was only to unbrick the device.
What you want to do exactly?

a602820922,
Maybe my experience with "older PCs" booting Hiren's 15.2 from a USB Drive is causing problems.
I inherited a Nook Tablet and checking for info found "NOOK Tablet booting CyanogenMod 7 from an SD card" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxKO8-seTLU "This video shows a NOOK Tablet dual-booting CyanogenMod 7 and the default B&N version of Android. CM7 runs from the SD card while the Barnes & Noble software runs from the internal storage."
Hoped that I could do this with all Android mobile devices.
Ken
Dual boot is just the mod which can be installed on some mobile phones, as far as I know on Samsung devices mainly.
It's not a diagnostic mode, it allows you to have 2 ROMs installed.
Google dual boot Samsung galaxy S4, for reference only

a602820922,
Thanks for the tip! Also for tolerating my basic questions.
As beginner I did Not know the meaning of Mod so searched and found "What is the difference between: ROM, Mod, and Firmware?" https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-difference-between-ROM-Mod-and-Firmware
Would you please explain what you mean by "Dual boot is just the mod which can be installed on some mobile phones"? Thanks
Searched using "Dual boot" Samsung and found "[PATCHER][APP] Dual boot any ROM on all Galaxy S4 variants!" https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2447534
Have a Note 3 so researched and found " [Guide] Multi Boot Note 3 (Updated 24/07/2015)" https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/themes-apps/guide-dual-boot-note-3-t3091764 read "...Main advantage of this is you can try any new rom with out loosing or having any kind of trouble with your existing rom. This mod will not change anything in your primary rom, so any time you can go back to your normal state. "
Am only using the Note 3 for Audio & Video (No Internet, Phone or WiFi) so would like to reduce the OS to just running Audio & Video.
Also am Very Interested in learning more concerning this so appreciate any links to tutorials... especially for beginners!
Thanks again for your help!!!
