AT&T Galaxy Mega (SGH-I527) - Samsung Galaxy Mega

Will an unlocked AT&T Galaxy Mega SGH-I527 work with T-Mobile's 4G LTE or just 4G? Also, outside coverage area, will it use AT&T's 4G LTE?
Thanks!

Nice, thanks!
Another question. I just switched to MetroPCS (uses same towers as T-Mobile) when I go roaming, will it roam in AT&T's towers? Does that mean when roaming I will also have 4G LTE instead of Edge? Or does AT&T recognize the phone it's from MetroPCS and lower it to Edge? I ask because I noticed T-Mobile doing all this reframing to use same bands as AT&T could it be possible that an unlocked AT&T phone have 4G LTE while on T-Mobile's network AND while ROAMING where a T-Mobile phone wont and that would be whack... T-Mobile charge $80 a month and not have 4G LTE while roaming while MetroPCS charges $60 a month AND have 4G LTE while roaming if using an AT&T device?

[Q] A question about AT&T / T-Mobile 4G

Hi, I'm in California and I have an Motorola Atrix with AT&T and I just unlocked my phone because I'm about to switch to T-mobile...
However, my friend told me that AT&T and T-Mobile has different 4G networks. He said the AT&T Atrix can not use 3G or 4G speed on a T-Mobile network, It can only go up to Edge speed.... Is that true? Does anyone know about this?
Hope some people can help me here ...
Thank you

From everything I have read that is correct, but also know that it won't be much longer till you are back as an AT&T customer since they are acquiring T-Mobile.

Its true. While both AT&T and T-Mobile use HSPA+ for their "4G" speeds, they run on different bands. If you want 3G/4G, use a T-Mobile phone. Otherwise, enjoy EDGE. Opera Mini with images set to low will be a big help.
T-Mobile leases cellular space from AT&T which is why unlocked AT&T phones can use T-Mobile service. Not sure if it is the phone's software issue that is causing the 4G/3Gnot working. It's possible that T-mobile implemented their so called 4G first but it's still AT&T equipment.....I work for AT&T. Also 4G, is just higher speed 3G, 4G LTE won't be rolling out until next year.
Thank you for the quick reply... I need to get a T-Mobile phone then.

Yep, but sucks that they still charge minutes when I call a T-Mobile number. I'm switching it for my girlfriend, so I can get Unlimited mobile to mobile minutes... I might get a sensation when I switch to T-Mobile

Good job on the misinformation front.
And also not being helpful, I'm going to assume your in sales and don't actually know anything.
Now on to the OP's question.
T-Mobile uses the same type of technology as AT&T however they operate on different bands. As such most devices that are sold on AT&T will be able work on T-Mobile for phone and edge but don't get 3g or hspa+ due to the radio in the device only supporting some of the bands. Which is why as a general rule AT&T phones such as the iphone, will work on T-Mobile if unlocked but can't use 3g because it doesn't have the ability to operate in the correct MHZ range. Its the same going from T-Mobile to AT&T. My HD2 was awesome, other then the slow data. *Not that my atrix or inspire are much better.
There are exceptions to the rule though. You'll have to check to see which bands the Atrix is capable of using. I know some of the Samsung devices had all the GSM bands so they worked fine on all networks.
the answer is NO the atrix will not work on tmobile USA 3G or 4G network. there, done!

Problem is that if/when the AT&T/T-mobile merger goes through, AT&T will likely flip Tmobile's 3g towers to 4g. All tmobile 3G phones...sorry no more 3g unless you buy a new phone. yay....
linky
AT&T said Monday that it planned to convert T-Mobile's 3G towers to 4G service and move T-Mobile 3G subscribers to AT&T 3G phones.

They won't just flip a switch and everyone has to buy new phones. They will be phased out as people finish contracts and begin new ones. If they don't, they'll be buying T-Mobile customers all new phones or paying fatcat lawyers to defend them from all the lawsuits.

Agreed, sorry I used the term 'flip', never meant to say it would happen instantly . The article I linked stated the switch would take several years. That's not written in stone though, AT&T could move up the timeline if they are losing too many customers to Verizon and Sprint.
This is only an issue if you plan on keeping your tmobile 3g phone for YEARS, which is not likely for anyone that frequents xda .

[Q] VZW Note 2 will work on what other carriers?

I have a VZW Note 2 and because of declining coverage in my area they have told me I can leave ETF free (engineer said I was in a marginal coverage area).
My phone is currently rooted and running beans 17.
That said, I just bought this phone 2 months ago and would like to take it to another carrier, so I was wondering ..
What modifications besides APN edits I would have to do?
Will it work on Sprint? T-Mobile? AT&T?
What speeds will I get on each network? (LTE - 3G - HSPA - HSPA+ - 2G(eww))
Thanks in advance for any assistance you all would be willing to offer.

I know gsm phones are interchangeable ( att & tmo ) as far as Verizon I don't think it will work on anything other then Verizon since they r sim less and use different network styles pretty much I think u will need a new device or stick with Verizon

I know that VZW Note 2 was released with GSM radios as well as CDMA, what frequencies it supports I do not know. One of the reasons i bought it was it was supposedly a "world phone"

By world phone it probably like the HTC one has a few limited gsm bands for over seas I mite be able to pick up service with att or tmo but without ( research what bands it can receive ) full spectrum band support ur service mite be worse that what u have now and doubtful u get crap for data speeds probably 2g only
Go to a phone website that compares phones and click the note 2for all carriers they should list what bands each device can receive it will give u a better idea

You are correct and the other poster is incorrect. The Verizon Note 2 supports:
LTE: Band 13 (700MHz); CDMA 1x/EVDO Rev A, Dual-band: 800/1900MHz; HSPA+/UMTS Quad-band: 850/900/1900/2100MHz; GSM Quad-band: 850/900/1800/1900MHz
So, you would only get 4G LTE on Verizon because it only supports Band 13, which is Verizon's part of the spectrum. Other service should be 3G.

I know I have stuffed my T-Mobile SIM into mine, and it was capable of achieving HSPA speed but then the new"er" T-Mobile towers in my area run on the 1900mhz spectrum. In certain areas when traveling EDGE (2G) is what I end up with. To set it up I followed the steps in another post here on XDA, but I don't still have that link. If you decide to try out T-Mobile you could use the tips on this thread: Verizon i605 Note 2 on T-Mobile Network
I picked T-Mobile because I could just walk into Walmart and buy an activation kit with Sim Card for $30, and it was just $30 a month for 100min Talk & Unlimited Text+ 5Gigs 4G Speed + Unlimited 3G Speed
Thanks for the reply,
I would love to use T-mobile service but it is only 2g where I am at.
I have been doing some research and it seems AT&T is rolling out a new prepaid option in a new company called AIO wireless. They seem to have decent pricing and unlimited data but at the moment are only in a few cities.
They are also updating the GoPhone plans on the 20th, so I might just wait around and see if any better options pop up this month before I make the move.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Mega I527m or m819n for T-mobile LTE

I am currently wondering which phone works best for T-mobile's LTE. The Rogers version of the mega has the 1700/2100 band in some websites specs but some say only 1900 so im not sure if that will get tmobile's hspa+ or lte. On the other hand the metropcs version i believe uses the same bands as tmobile now so idk. Which one will work best with t-mobile or are they both equally the same and will both work on tmobile's lte?
I own the MetroPCS galaxy mega. I'm a MetroPCS subscriber. T-Mobile bought MetroPCS and MetroPCS is using T-Mobile's 4G network. So, technically, I'm using a MetroPCS mega on T-Mobile.
That said, I live in NYC and I normally get between 25 and 30mbps download and around 15mbps upload. I've gotten as high 42mbps down and over 20mbps up.
I haven't experienced any dropped calls and I've only experience occasional drops from LTE to HSPA+ (and when on HSPA+ my data speeds are around 15mbps down and 2mbps up). I've never dropped below HSPA+ in NYC.

It will. That's the one I'm using. I can't fully explain it because I don't feel like it, but go with the Metro PCS one. It will be better on T-Mobile's network because Metro PCS uses T-Mobile's towers. There's a thread on here that explains it better. The AT&T on isn't bad, but the Metro one works better.

Will the verizon m8 work on AT&T?

Hey guys I've been out if the loop, but will the verizon m8 work on AT&T especially with 4G LTE etc? Only reason I ask the verizon iPhone 5s's were unlocked and ATT 4G LTE worked fine on them.

It will work fine on HSPA and AWS LTE but it's lacking band 17 which is still almost exclusively what ATT uses for LTE across the country. The iPhone 5s/5c remains the only Verizon phone that can be legitimately taken to another carrier without any compromises.
I wonder as AT&T continues its rollout of carrier aggregation, if more Verizon phones will get access to AT&Ts networks in carrier aggregated markets.
I guess it all depends on which frequencies AT&T decides to bond, but I'm sure there will be more access to AWS frequencies on AT&Ts networks as carrier aggregation continues to expand.

LG V10 by T-Mobile, unlocked for AT&T, but no 4G LTE

Hi, I have an LG V10 that I purchased from TMOBILE. I switched to AT&T, and brought my T-Mobile device with me. Everything works fine, but I cannot get 4G LTE service at all. I have tried 2 APN settings, and that does not help. I live in a large metropolitan area, and I know that 4G is available here with AT&T. Does anybody have any idea why I can only get 4G and not 4G LTE?
Thanks!
It's possible that AT&T didn't provision your SIM to get LTE. What APN settings did you try?
