LG G3 Earphones Thread - G3 Accessories

I didn't see a earphones thread so I wanted to start the topic. In my opinion LG did great with the 1 watt back speaker but kinda dropped the ball with the earphone Jack. I feel like it could be louder or maybe it's the earphones I'm using. I'm using the monster DNA ear buds and I just wanted to see what other user recommend for this sweet device.

Yeah, my HTC One's loudness was massive compare to G3's. And I'm using Sony MDR1-RNC headphones. The sound quality is ok but could be 2-3 steps more on the loudness scale.

The sound quality seems pretty good with my VSonic GR07 MKII , but more quantity (volume) is needed to drive them. I'm sure everything will be great after root is acquired and audio mods are applied.

I use the Shure SE846 IEMs, so I have a lot of isolation going here which means the volume is MORE than adequate, even for hip hop and metal. What really amazes me is just how CLEAR the sound is. No Viper4Android and even Spotify's "high" setting sounds great. MAN this is an upgrade from the Nexus 5.

Ha HA! Howdy friendo. Yeah, this is a diesel device for audio.

Volume through headphones depends on their sensitivity, does it not?
I have too many pairs of head/earphones to list. I just wait for good prices. I don't post over at Head but so many good recommendations there cost me much coin, lol!
I'm digging the sound quality no doubting that. Anyone know what DAC is in the G3?

It does, but raw output power is what it is and the G3's isn't nearly as much as the HTC M8, but honestly with a good pair that isolates well these have plenty of volume.
I used to have more than I have now, I'm keeping it simple because once you spend $1000 on headphones it's time to re-evaluate your life.
As for the DAC, I have no idea. There was a Wolfson DAC in the G2 but apparently not in the G3, but the tests I've seen on the G3 show that it's got the clearest audio output of any android device currently so who knows what's in there.

I just use the ones that came with the phone and there alright. I have used my K701's with the phone (directly) and i get a pretty decent sound out of it, loud enough though not super loud obviously.

I have a crazy-ass idea. Instead of getting an amazing device and using the terrible stock headphones, get GOOD ones.

That's the problem. They didn't come with any at all so I'm looking for a low priced pair to use. My next big electro purchase will be that moto 360 so I'm tying to save some coin u kno

So basically you're spending all this money on devices and then skimping out on the audio, ensuring that your expensive devices sound absolutely terrible when you actually use them for music. Good job.

Ok thanks for your help.

Good to see someone has good taste in headphones.
I have the gr07's mk1
Great sound for the moolah

My main qualm with my old Z1 was the fact that it was way too low in terms of sound volume. The G3 is definitely louder, but not quite as loud as I want it.
There is a quick fix if you're rooted though, the thread can be found here.

The LG quad beats are actually quite good fit stock headphones. They are much better than apples ear pods. I normal just use my Boise free style in ear ones because they are comfortable she have decent sound quality. I just hate how all headphones are made for apple and you can't use the volume toggles, but the center button works for Google now.
Sent from my LG-D850 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

That is weird that more headphones don't come with android-capable controls. It's not like the company needs different controls for every model, and there are a LOT more Android phones out there.
So I've tried my SE846, my VModa M100, and my Final Audio Pandora, and yep. This phone sounds awesome. Every single time.

Beats Audio is just a bunch of marketing bull**** to describe a crappy equalizer preset, nothing more.
After all, remember, Beats comes from the same company that partnered with Monster Cable to bring you more of their overpriced overmarketed crap. Beats is nothing but a scam to push overpriced mediocre crap using Dr. Dre's name.
As opposed to Samsung, who just silently put in a top-rated Wolfson DAC into most of their devices (unfortunately, ours is one of the exceptions. The Yamaha MC1-N2 isn't so hot).
I thought beats on the HTC phones was just a software ...... I didn't know it was interlaced with the audio chip as well

On HTC phones, it's just software - nothing special in the chip. That's why my attitude towards it is so negative.
As compared to the original Galaxy S series, which had NO audio-specific marketing mumbojumbo, but DID have one of the most highly regarded DAC chips out there.
The MC1-N2 isn't so hot, but it's probably better than what's in most HTCs, even the "beats" ones.
We can't switch audio chips right?

Yeah, it's not quite as good as the one in the original Galaxy S phones is.
Meh, maybe it was just me but I couldn't tell that much of a difference.
I used my captivate and now my SGSII to play music in my car via headphone jack to aux out on the headunit and it's been a very noticeable difference, mainly with volume.

you need expensive speakers/ headphones and the proper source files to hear it. mine were 500 when I bought them. it isn't important to most people. some actually spend over 1000 on a tv, then play sound through tv speakers.
Honestly...
Just get a nice set of headphones and make sure you to your music at the highest bit rate possible.Instant beats audio =P there's nothing extra special about any of the beats audio products really.

My skullcandy full metal jacket buds sound worlds better and clearer than my brothers beats ear buds. Just saying. I know sound is quality is sort of a subjective topic but it was a clear difference.
Sent from Tapatalk using my Samsung GT-I9100
skullcandy is not really considered good, so don't use that brand for reference. I don't know what beats sounds like, but its more about dr. dre than quality - what Entropy512 wrote. skullcandy looks like the high end ones, but they don't have the same insides and break easily. but they are probably better than free ones.
I have the Sennheiser CX980i headphones which are say better then beats headphones and the difference from my captivate to my i777 is huge I wasn't sire if it was just me or not but when I got home I made sure to use my captivate to play a song then play that on mY i777 and its noticeable

I think his point was that cheap Skullcandies perform better than overpriced Beats crap.
My Skullcandy Titans haven't broken yet, and with Comply foam eartips they're comfortable and sound great.
Even the big guys have durability problems - I was looking at a set of Shures before I bought the Skullcandies, and the Shures had all sorts of problems with wire breakage.
Beats audio is surely marketing horse**** with no real validity. Regarding GS2 sound quality it does fall a little short of the Captivate's chip but its a concession I think most are willing to make given the others GS2 specs.
Also, if you have a decent set of earphones/headphones you can distinguish between the two. I have a set of Klipsch Image S4(one of the better set under $100 IMO) and with those I can tell the difference. With lesser cans you might not be able to tell.
Shure Headphones
If you want a really good pair of headphones or buds buy "Shure". Professional Quality DJ Headphones Full-range audio performance, comfort, and durability for DJ use and personal listening. Plus their unbelievably loud.
Whoa what is this headfi now? But yes beats is nothing more than marketing like what everyone else has said. If you want to try to distinguish the difference pick up some quality iems or full size cans. Also Bose is not high quality and to give monster credit their actual high end gear isn't too bad...

Beats Audio, what is it exactly?

I've just plugged in my headphones (which are pretty good) in my amaze for the first time since having Beats Audio (on NRG Rom today) and the difference I can hear is just some kind of melted sound that looks like some equalizing with a lot of bass as I expected since Beats headphones have nothing but bass to what I read, and a slight reverb effect which is really annoying to me since I am a fan of pure sound. Is there anything else in this mod that makes it interesting?
I just keep it disabled and I enjoy my Amaze more each day with all the ROMs getting better!
Thanks!
Sent from my HTC_Amaze
To enjoy TRUE Beats audio, you have to buy Beats headphones. But to me it doesn't make a difference
I consider it a gimmick, I thought it was a special sound chip or something, but it turns out its just a couple of files in the os. And beats headphones aren't that good anyway
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using Xparent Green Tapatalk 2
nope, there's nothing all that special about it, just marketing. DSP does way more for sound then beats, hell, even the eq that comes with cloudskipper has better sound then what beats puts out.
Also, I'm not a fan of things like since its a beats phone, you need the beats headphones. That sounds alot like apple, and I hate apple for that!
PowerAmp shuts everything else down.
Beats audio on a phone is a glorified bass boost with a sexy logo.
But don't sit here and act like beats headphones are no good. They're not the best, but they dont cost as much as the best either. Kevin Durant isnt the best either... does that mean he's not very good?

I have to disagree a little on the last point, go a bit on audio forums and you will see quickly enough that the best point of the Beats headphones is their look. I tried the little ones, the cheapest model and the only thing it had better than the 5$ earbuds I can find at the Walmart is a big bunch of bass. As much distortion and sound denaturation (not sure this last is an english word...). Sure the bigger models are better but out of bass power (not bass quality) for the quality/price Beats by Dre are far to be a great deal, for what my ears told me and what I read.

It's as if no one bothers reading the OP's post. He doesn't want the jaybirds.
To OP, I've heard great things about the Motorola, but honestly I would recommend going wired. No need to worry about BT. Try a tunebelt armband that has a Velcro strap for the dangling wire of the earphones. If you must have wireless, try the moto.

iBeats worth it?

Personal taste I guess. I think they sound like absolute trash.
Edit: I guess I should clarify. They are bass heavy headphones, but they aren't your typical bass-heavies. They boost mainly mid bass (as opposed to low bass), and they actually suppress mids and some of the highs. They're very boomy, but it sounds like a muddy mess to my ears. There's no definition in the mids whatsoever, and the highs get lost in the mix.
I can kinda agree with strike. But with the right eq app ( power amp is what I use) it can be cleaned up nicely. And much better sound than your average cheap ear buds.

Yea, but for $40, I'd rather buy a set of mid-range Sennheiser CX 300s or Kilpsch Image S3s. For the $100 the iBeats would normally set you back, I'd get a set of Shure SE215s.

i to use poweramp and its the only way to make them sound less bassie.
It has taken me 7 months with this phone to slowly perfect the EQ in power amp to get the maximum audio quality from the iBeats.

Meh, $500 isn't that bad for high quality IEMs, I've got PFE232s and they are well worth the money, just depends on how much you like music.

I love music, that's why over the ear headphones are the only way to go. Not to mention with ear buds you cause direct damage to your eardrum.

Well, for me, my desktop over the ear headphone setup is too big to go portable, so I got IEMs instead. As long as you don't crank the volume up, i don't think they will do much damage. But back on topic, OP, if you get the headphones you linked, you might experience some clipping and distortion at lower volumes, if this happens, I recommend a portable amp, like the Fiio E11 or something along those lines. It will boost the volume, and make the headphones sound a lot better overall. :good:

I finally broke down and got the wireless beats by dre. I couldn't be happier. They are actually great for the gym. They come in red, black and white.

No offense, but Beats might just be the most over-priced brand of headphones besides Bose. Whatever you like though, if you're happy, that's all that matters. :good:

Going to agree. I have a pair of beats solos and they don't even compare to my audio technica m50's even though there's a 70 dollar price difference. Beats being the $200 set.
I have the Motorola SD-10HD bluetooth headphones and they are red and black. They actually work very well and have controls on them so you can adjust volume and skip tracks.
I have the monster turbine cooper pros iem. They sound great!! Sounds very velvety don't know a better way to describe the sound but VELVETY

I'd have to agree also. I bought that wireless beats by dre and used them for a week. They were good but after doing some more research I returned the beats (way over priced) and got the over the ear bluedio wireless headphones for $146. Much happier with them especially at half the price.
