[Q] Bricked and cant get into recovery or bootloader - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

So I have a verizon s4 (rooted) and it is bricked. If I take the battery out and put it back in the screen shows "Samsung" and then goes black and nothing else happens. I cant get it to start in bootloader or recovery mode either.
I am not sure if or how this is relevant, but I have been having issues with the power button, meaning that it wouldnt work when pressed except sometimes if I held it down long enough the "shut down/reboot" option showed up. In short I am not so convinced that it is working properly or maybe even at all.
Any help would be appreciated

Were you doing anything when it happened? Trying to install a rom, recovery etc?

Stupid suggestion, but try plugging the phone in to charge. I had some odd things happen to my phone where it would try to boot and continue to shut down. I knew I had charge on the battery, but when i plugged in the phone to the wall adapter, it acted like the battery did not have any power left. Once charged enough to boot, the phone would work fine.

I guess what I am looking for is a way to take over the phone via a computer and somehow force it to behave

Maybe your battery is hosed or this is worth a call to Samsung and maybe they can perform a repair if need be

[FIXED]After root, phone wont charge while off?

So I rooted and installed CWM, and now when I try to charge my phone WHILE it is off, the charging light wont come on, which means is not charging while off at all. Has this happened to anyone else? When the phone is on, it charges just fine.
EDIT: Just tried it with FastBoot on, and now it charges when powered off. So to anyone having the issue, try this.
EDIT 2: It appears this only happens when on CWM recovery. TWRP does not exhibit this problem.
I've noticed the same on my end.
Try a different recovery.

Same result here, i woke up to a dead phone this morning.
Happen to me too with different recovery.

Out of curiosity, were your phones _off_, or in the hibernation state that is used for Fast Boot?

Mine was in the "hibernation" state, but before I had root, I could charge the phone while off with either FastBoot off or on. Anyway, I already changed recoveries to TeamWin's, and Im in the process of a Nandroid backup, so as soon as its done, I will try to charge with both FB on and off to see what happens, and I will post results. BTW, I've seen that this has happened to quite a few more people, so it might be a widespread problem that not a lot of people know because most of us dont ever turn off the phone to charge it.
I dunno.. havent tried that but why do u turn your phone off to charge it anyways lol

Well, if you run your battery until the phone turns off, it'd be great to be able to charge it in your own phone instead of an external charger or non-rooted/s-on phone.

For one, the phone charges faster this way because its not using any power at all.
I have fastboot turned off in the menu and mine charges fine when I turn it off. I'm using Teamwin Recovery

I can also confirm this, so it appears to be a bug related to CWM recovery, can any of the guys that still have that recovery and is experiencing this problem try to charge with FB off while the phone is off and confirm if it works or not?

Same here. I did notice however, the light would not turn green while off... It was on the charger for 7+ hours. Weird. I'm using TWPR.
It's definitely the cwm-4.0.1.4-shooter.img recovery. I just tested with both twrp and cwm. twrp allows the phone to charge with fastboot off and phone off.
Fastboot on isn't really a 'fix' because the phone never goes off completely from what I understand. I just want to know I can charge a dead battery in my phone if I ever needed to.

This.
This might be a serious problem to anyone whos using this recovery and their phone dies before they can get to an A/C outlet (for example, on a car w/o a car charger, etc). I will send the developers a quick note for them to check this out.
Good work on figuring this out... Im sure we will see more folks wondering wtf is goin on with their batteries

I can confirm this. Using CWM the phone does not charge when powered off. Whats the best way to remove CWM and install TWR?
when you turn off the phone and plug in the charger, the red light does go off in a few seconds, but my phone was fully charged overnight (without the red light on)
Mine charged to 100% this morning. I stuck with CWM, I also flashed OMJ deodexed rom before I went to bed. I plugged it in when the phone was on and awake.

I also wondered if it was just that the led wasn't on, but was really charging. I tried having the phone off with cwm, plugged in charger, led came on/went off, and left it for 30 minutes. It did not charge my battery at all.

Power the phone off completely. Pull the battery. Put the battery back in after about 30 seconds. Hold down both volume buttons while also plugging in the USB cable. Keep the vol buttons held down until you see the d/l screen come up. Let go of the buttons and then click vol up once to proceed to d/l mode.

Nothing happened? any other solution?
What was the battery level like when the phone last turned on? If you can't get it to power up at all, there's only so much you can try. I'd try plugging it into a different outlet as well as maybe the computer and see if you can get any response from it.
When you have the battery in and press and hold power, do you see the softkeys briefly blink like they normally do when turning the phone on? It's possible that the battery is somehow the problem but I guess it could be the phone too. Would love some other input from other people cause I'm at a loss on what else to try.

It was at 30% I think the battery is discharged but I don´t know how to recharged.
When I press and hold power or vol up and down the softkeys don´t blink.
Yes I know I need more people to give solutions but thank you very much Kadin.
Well if you think it's fully discharged, leave it plugged into the wall for a while. It's possible that it dipped down below the point where it normally shuts off (around 5%) and may need a good long charge to get it back alive. I'd attempt that if you haven't already.

So - it got to the AT&T logo - tell us EXACTLY what you did after that.
It might help too if you explain what it was you did to the phone to try to get back to att stock.
Include the filenames used, and if you Odined, where you used them.

There is a very good chance that if you charge the phone with wall charger
to be sure the battery is not dead and then use a JIG which will get it into
download mode you will be able to reflash the stock rom.
You can buy a JIG for less than $2 bucks including shipping on eBay.
Be sure that when you do get it into download mode to re-download
the stock rom just to be sure that the rom file is not corrupted.
Good luck!

The way you phrased your description above make it sound like you flashed a .7z file in Odin3. If you tried to do that, it wouldn't work, or course. The file you named, I777UCKH7 OCD No BL.7z contains an executable file that is an Odin one-click downloader. You have to extract the file from the 7 zip archive first, then run the file in windows, then connect your phone to the pc. Maybe that's what you did but your description is confusing?

Really Dorked it up - No Charge, no ADB, Nothing

Good Morning. Last night I flashed the latest RUU so I could install Nils latest Business Sense. After the RUU flash, everything booted fine so I rebooted into the boot loader and flashed the latest TWRP. It said it flashed fine, press power to reboot. I did that and now nothing.
I don't get a charging light when I plug it in, I let it sit over night on the charger, still nothing.
I've pulled the battery, I've tried connecting it to my PC so I can run adb reboot, nothing.
The phone is S-OFF. I've done some messed up stuff before but I've always been able to at least get a response out of the phone. With this, I don't get anything.
Appreciate any help anyone can provide. Thanks!
To clarify, I can't get into HBOOT, nothing. Why would flashing TWRP do that?

Silly question, but did you verify md5 sums on the RUU and twrp?
If not go ahead and check those from where you downloaded them and see if they match.

Ok next thoughts. If you know for sure your battery had a decent charge, leave battery out for a few hours and try again.
If you are not sure see about trying someone elses charged battery or go to a VZW store and try one of their batteries.
Realistically the only thing twrp could do is possibly have the same bug CWM has and not allow the phone to charge when powered off. Hadnt heard of this but also havent run 2.2 since i just got the sgsiii

No, it's like it won't turn on.
I thought it was like the old CWM issue when a battery ran down and you had to let it charge over night. I did that. But nothing happens even when I connect it to a PC, I should in theory if it's the same problem, adb and reboot it.
I may very well have bricked it, but it just doesn't make sense. The MD5's matched. There was no power disconnect. It finished properly and told me to push power to reboot.

You see it more with computers but sometimes when things go funky, you cannot just do a normal battery pull as the capacitors dont drain that fast. So by leaving the battery out and letting the capacitors drain you might luck out.
You can also for a quick try pull battery and hold the power button down for 30 seconds and try. If not try leaving the battery out for a few hours.
If that doesnt work let us know and we will come up with other ideas.

That's funny you said that, I was thinking about when I flash the bios on my MB I always drain the capacitors after I flash and before I reboot. I tried the quick pull and held the power for 30 seconds. No joy.
I'll let it sit without the battery for a few hours and try.
The ***** of it is, I'm in Afghanistan right now, so I'm pretty much SOL for getting another battery, etc. Oh well... guess when I get home from deployment I'll just buy a few phone if I really hosed this up.

No dice, nothing happening. Hmm... I'm really at a loss. I just ordered another batter to try, but that's going to take a week or two to get here.
EDIT: Good news! Left the battery out over night, this time it booted up fine. Defintely related to some weird electrical issue after flashing.

[Q] Phone died wont charge

Yesterday my dna died while at a dealership then I went to plug it into my car charger and the led came on to indicate charging. The phone automatically booted into the bootloader at which point I selected reboot phone and after that it went black as if there wasn't enough juice to boot and shut off. Since then the phone won't charge. When plugged into the wall, no orange led comes on to show its charging and after being left plugged in over night I'm still having the same issue.
I've got a lot of important things on there and I really hope there's something I can do.
Thanks :crying:

Make sure your cable isn't borked. For some reason, the cable wires break at the connector on the small end. Try a different cable. The orange charging light should come on after about 5-15 minutes of charging depending how dead it is.

At this point the phone is refusing to do anything or at least appears to be doing nothing. Pressing the power does nothing and when plugged into any power source no orange led. I don't know how I would boot into the boot loader while the phone is in this state.

Thanks. I've tried several cables and from different charging sources, wall, computer USB and my car and none make the orange led come on. I've tried holding the power for 20-30 seconds to see if I could reboot it but that didn't work either. The phone has never been dropped on anything but carpet once or twice and never near any water.

I have this exact same problem; however, my phone came back in a few days? It seems to get stuck like that every so often but then comes back and has around 30-40% battery left. I am about to lock it and put it back to stock and get a replacement.
Were you running any ROMs? I'm running a clean stock ROM.
Maybe try to open it up and disconnect the battery. This is a common pro let on the Nexus 7 and usually people get it fixed by disconnecting the battery and putting it back on. If you feel comfortable opening the phone you could try that.

I was going to disassemble it after finding a guide and almost purchased a replacement charging port for the phone thinking maybe it was broken or something but I may try that. Thanks.

I'm running stock rom with root and clockwork. I've had the phone like that since late December and nothing wrong until now. Now that you mention though, the same thing did happened awhile back but like you it randomly started working again on its own. I hope it comes back soon.

Cool. Keep me updated. I'm very curious now.
When you hold down the power button for 10-15 seconds, do the led's on the bottom of the screen blink? I let mine drain all the way out. Plugged it in. the orange light was blinking slow. I held down the power button until after the led's blinked 13 times. I don't know why they blinked 13 times but they did. held down the power button again and it booted up.
When you connect it to your computer, is it found as a device through ADB commands? Is it listed as a drive attached to the computer?

Good news, I disassembled it and disconnected the battery from the mobo like another user suggested earlier and after putting it together and plugging it in it is charging and booted to recovery

Prior to disassembling it no, the LEDs never blinked when holding it down and when I tried charging it through my computer USB port it was never detected. Everything seems to be fixed now but thanks for suggestions. I still don't know what happened but hopefully it was just a one-off thing

So it does sound like a hardware problem. Maybe I'll return mine and get a new one.

Glad to hear your back up. Good job. It could also possibly be that the battery somehow got disconnected. I wouldn't return it unless it happens again. Just try not to let it die and I don't think it will happen again. Or if you drop it, it may also disconnect. But I wouldn't get a replacement unless the issue comes up again.

If you get a replacement your phone will be unlockable.
Glad you found the problem.
For future reference, my experience when my android phone had died, always plug the phone into the wall. If not, it takes forever for the phones light to come back on. Its happened to me a bunch of times. Haha

What model of htc do you have?
Dumb question, have you taken the battery out?
and a light should come on when its charging but doesnt?
it is more than likely possible to recover as long as nothing is damaged, i had a bootloop virus after trying to root, i had a friend fix it for me but all he did was flash the stock ruu using adb which was a pain in the ace because adb couldnt find the phone and the stock ruu was a Beach.
um, if none of those work, try a different cable i guess? trying to see if it is just an easy fix before you have to do anything 'fun'
No I didn't take the battery out it's not removable and no lights come on whatsoever and the pc can not see my phone no matter what cable I use
Let it sit on the charger for a day (24 hours) and then try to turn it on, this has been known to work. If this doesn't work then you may need to send it in. Could be bad battery or motherboard.
Thanks I'll try it man
Have you performed the 3 finger salute for about 10 seconds? It drains all power so you know if your toast. Hold the volumes and power.

I have yet to try it but I will. Thanks.
It did not work. I tried all possible button combinations and still nothing.
