[Q] I flashed the wrong rom - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed the wrong rom on my Xperia Z2, I tried fixing it by flashing tft file, but I couldn't even get the device into flashmode (Power + Vol up), It just never vibrates, when I put it in the charger it just keeps blinking red.
What's the proper fix for this? and is this a soft-brick or hard-brick? Please help.

Flashmode is not Power button + Volume up. But...
Connect USB to ur computer
Then Hold the Volume Down key on your phone while u connect the USB Cable to the phone.
If you successfully get to flashmode, then u can flash an FTF file for ur phone. (This will also wipe internal sd files if you don't untick 'data' under wipes) Then again, phone might not boot properly if you don't wipe as u said something about custom ROM.
OR Follow these steps I found on Sony website
1. Download the PC Companion software from http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/
and install it on your PC.
2. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
3. Phone Software Update.
4. Start.
5. Repair Phone
6. Continue
7. Accept data removal
8. Next
9. Wait for prepare
10. Select Phone
11. Follow the connection steps

Tried using flashtool with Vol down buut
18/058/2014 23:58:26 - ERROR - Drivers need to be installed for connected device.
18/058/2014 23:58:26 - ERROR - You can find them in the drivers folder of Flashtool.
I'm sure that I have the drivers installed as I tried earlier today to unlock the bootloader through flashtool (which didn't really work out) and it recognized the device just fine.
right now it doesn't even show the Sony logo..I'll try PC Companion method in seconds..
EditC Companion is asking me to make sure that the battery level is above %80, when I was flashing the new rom, the battery level was around %50, should I care about this, or is it just an extra precaution? because I don't really see a way for me to know the battery level.

I'm sure 50% is enough to install through PC Companion unless ur battery is bad.
And do you by anymeans use windows 8? If you do, Did you disable driver signature while installing Flashmode, Fastboot and Z2 drivers from the C:\Flashtool\drivers folder, or where ever u installed flashtool to.

I believe I didn't disable driver signature, I connected the device to a different usb port too just to be sure, my OS is windows 8.1.
PC Companion is updating the phone right now, I'll see how it turns out and report back to you, thanks.
Edit:It worked, my phone is alive, thank you, stanley <3

[Q] Bricked LwW? Please help!

Hello guys, i need help ..
I wanted flash this custom ROM on my LwW, so I rooted device, installed CWM, unlocked bootloader, wiped data/cache/dalvik and flash it. But now is phone lagged on boot screen (ŠONY logo) ... i cant go to CWM, when i want restore via SUS, it says: The phone contains modified software that cannot be updated; and flashtool lags in flash process in text - Reading device information.
Can I do anything? Please help. :crying: thanks
Flashtool should work. Make sure you install the flashtool drivers properly, then,
1. open flashtool
2. Shut down your mobile
3. Connect data cable only to the computer.
4. press and hold only the volume DOWN button in your device and plug in the cable to the phone and the notification led should light up green indicating that the phone is into flash mode then it should be recognized by flashtool.
(make sure the flashtool drivers are properly installed and the USB port you are using in your computer is high speed USB port)

Which kernel you are using ?
did you wiped everything before installing custom rom ?? (data, system, cache, dalvik cache)

[Q] Xperia U with modified kernel can be upgraded to ICS by the sony site?

XperiaU have a modified kernel with android 2.3.7, want to know if I upgrade to ICS by Sony's PC Companion can cause a problem for the modified kernel. (root)
If you use a modified kernel, then you have an unlocked bootloader so you cant use Sony PC Companion! Get Flashtool and the FTF instead Its a lot faster and simpler in my opinion
If you have any doubts on howto proceed, reply here or message me
Cheers

already heard about using FlashTool if you know of any link that teaches this would be grateful if you showed. but if I tried using the PC companio what would happen?
Found this on AndroidSoul Blog and modified for relevance :
1) Now copy the “.ftf” firmware file that you downloaded for your phone, and paste it inside the “firmwares” folder.
2) Double click the “FlashTool.exe” file.
3) Once the program opens — click on the “Flash” button. Its the Lightning button on top left
4) You’ll see the firmware that you copied loaded on the screen — click “Ok”!
Now it should ask you to connect your phone to the PC. So first plug the USB cable to PC, then pick up your phone and hold the “Volume Down” key and then connect the USB cable to your phone. Remember you’ve to hold the “Volume Down” key while connecting the USB cable to phone.
Once the phone gets connected — Flashtool will automatically start the flashing process.
Keep an eye on the Flashtool’s screen.
And once the process gets finished, disconnect your phone from PC and switch it ON.
Don’t freak if it takes longer to boot (that’s normal) as the phone has to build the cache again after flashing.
That will get you started And Sony PC Companion will give an error saying modified software if you try to flash on device with unlocked bootloader
ps : Since you are flashing a rom, use Flashmode and not fastboot when asked

Have You Bricked your ZU

After playing around with cooking my own rom from .290 stock I thought I had hard bricked my ZU
No recovery
Flashmode and Fastboot would only connect for the briefest moments
Flashtool could not flas an FTF as it would say "device disconnected" immediately
Flashtool could not flash a boot.img as the device would again disconnect before you could do any thing
The saving grace was @jackie099 's 4.3 root tool - used as it wasn't intended to be used
The thing with this tool is it waits for the device then flashes the boot.img where flashtool is the other way around for flashing a boot.img. ie the device has to be there before selecting the .img.
It may have taken 10 or more attempts to get a working recovery on the ZU
I suspect that I could have managed the same using adb/fastboot at the command line?
Links:
@jackie099 root tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2576006
ps make sure that you keep a working rom and nandroid backup on the sd card - ie don't del the wrong nandroid and del the old rom's to make room
EDIT:
After 3 hours of fretting and thinking I had well and truly bricked the ZU and wasted $800 (yes I know that our money down here is near worthless ) I rebooted windows this morning - looks like most of the troubles was windows 8, and I had just a normalish soft-bricked ZU that any noob could have fixed. I feel so http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmvCpR45LKA

With locked bootloader... Nah!!!! It's next to impossible to brick this beast....
Sent from my XT925 using Tapatalk
I managed to screw up while trying to root .290, my fix was to relock the bootloader via flash tool, then use PCC to reflash stock.
I bricked mine a couple times trying to root and install recoveries. I just used FlashTool. Worked for everthing.
The problem was not the soft brick, if I was worried about that I would not be playing with cooking my own version of 290
The problem was windows, with in a tenth of a second of connecting the phone windows would do something (reset the connection?) and then flashtool etc would say device disconnected. .1 of a second is not long to try an flash a boot image
Ps I have an unlocked bootloader
^^ you did "restart" in that special mode that allows unsigned drivers in win8 prior to setting up flashtool etc? (sry, don't a link, check flashtool thread maybe) 9 times out of 10 this is the issue with win8.

yep drivers all install correctly, was working fine one flash, then 15-20 min later after another (failed) flash it wasn't
in 14 years of linux I'm sure I never had the amount of random issues that I'v had in 6 months of windows 8
Yesterday I run into a similar problem when I try to flash the C6833 to my C6802. The flashtool stuck for like 10 minutes, and I had to leave urgently so that I.... manually remove the cable.
When I got home, I started everything again, and this time, it works for me.
To OP: I also had problem with windows8 because it does not recognize the drivers no matter how I tried. Desperatedly, I switch to Windows 7 (I have 2 system running), everything was pretty smooth and straight forward.

Win 8 you have to boot it into it's special boot mode and click through about 4 pages to find the correct place to tell it to load unsigned drivers, then it will work. But this wasn't an issue with unsigned drivers.

Yes I used jackie's tool, but the real issue I had was windows not the phone.
How much battery did you have before you flashed?
What exactly did you flash?

Does flashtool say anything when you connect the phone?
Have you tried a reset (hold power and vol +) or have you tried a hard reset (the red button in side of the sim cover)?

The issue you're facing might be directly related to trying to use flash tools in Windows 8 rather than Windows 7.
There is an issue installing the drivers you need to flash the phone in Windows 8.
You need to enter something called 'special mode' and tinker with a few settings.

Same error in Windows 7 and Windows 8...
it seems like ive done the impossible with bricking my phone, locked bootloader and not rooted. power went out when 4.3 almost finished flashing and the phone wouldnt go into flashmode or fastboot. charging it would have flashing red> solid red> then nothing > and repeat.. trying to hard reset react sometimes and the red reset button does nothing.connecting it to the computer would make the "connected" sound then constantly play the "disconnect" sound.. nothing shows up in hardware management.
the good thing is i called sony on dec26 and recently got an RMA number, didnt have proof of purchase since it was a gift and the rep told me my warranty is still there so i sent it in and they just received it today, hopefully ill get a working zxu back soon.

[Q] Tablet Z bricked?

Hi there,
yesterday I tried to root my new Tablet Z (16GB, LTE, Model: SGP321, Firmware: 10.4.B.0.569) and it doesn't start since then.
I used an ubuntu live CD for all these tasks because fastboot doesn't work on my win 8.1 and my debian wheezy didn't have the libc-dev needed in its repositories (didn't want to mess with packets that weren't yet integrated into my OS).
What I did:
unlock the bootloader according to http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
I followed the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/general/how-to-root-10-4-b-0-569-t2590781
a few annotations to this:
the firmware rar didn't include a "Recover.zip", so I used the boot.img directly inside the firmware rar
although sony and this CM tutorial use the "-i" parameter of fastboot, I didn't use it because it wasn't used by the tutorial
after I did the "fastboot reboot" step, the device wasn't listed anymore when typing "fastboot devices", which, I think, is okay since the device should restart then.
I think it didn't really restart, because the LED on the side glew red.
I tried to turn on the tablet but it didn't do anything (the LED kept glowing red).
I tried holding vol up and power for a few seconds (until the LED blinked first once and then three times) but the tablet wouldn't do anything except for the LED glowing red. at somepoint, the LED would turn off (I think that happened when I hold vol up and power for more than 10 sec).
I was able to let it glow red again by pressing vol up and power again and release the vol up button before the power button.
I also tried to use the PC companion on my windows machine to repair the tablet but the tablet wasn't even recognized (either using the fastboot-procedure by holding vol up while connecting the tablet nor normal plugging in...)
any ideas what I could do next?
Same Problem!
Hey wullxz!
I have the same problem. Red LED most of the time, and I cannot make ANY USB connection to the PC. The tablet won't show up in the device manager. So obviously cant use flashtool, nor PC companion. Ive tried all this volume up and down button stuff, but simply cannot get it to show up on the computer.. Tried a different USB cable as well.. Same issue. The USB port is definitely not broken. Its brand new..
Have you found any solution ? Or anyone else? Mine just got back from Sony Repair.. they wont fix it cuz they detected that Ive tampered with the original software.... meaning Warranty Lost!
Great!
hi,
i also sent mine to sony for a repair. i wrote that i did a firmware update and the tablet wouldn't boot afterwards.
i didn't try the bootloader-unlock again afterwards.
Help Needed!
Tablet Z with unlocked bootloader and rooted 10.1.C.0.370
My issues occured after a downgrade to 4.1.2.
I CAN:
1) Start my tablet, everything normal...
2) Charge my tablet
3) Go into safe mode
4) Go into fastboot mode (solid BLUE LED)
5) Use the memory card and use root apps (maybe this could help restore?)
I CAN NOT:
1) Get my PC to recognize that a USB device is connected. Neither in Mass Storage mode, Media mode, nor fastboot mode.
- Tried with several cables and computers (this is not a driver issue, since it won't show up at all in device manager)
- Flashtool obvious;y says, no device connected
2) Get in to flashmode: device blinks red for about half a second, then green for half a second, and then LED is off. Nothing recognized via USB on PC
3) Get into recovery mode
4) Update over WIFI (fails because unlocled bootloader I suppose)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
i think you should open a new thread for your problem because it seems like it's not really similar to my issue.
you should get more/better replies in an own thread.

let it charge to 100%, check for flashmode drivers installed and then try attaching it to pc only when flashtool asks you to do it.

Hey thanks for your reply... It wont go into flashmode... Theres something fundamentally wrong.. I cant figure out what... I leave it plugged in for 48 hours..but it doesnt really get full.. the most Ill get the orange LED.. like 50%... now its on since about 12 hours.. no LED on at all... strange..
But yea.. no flashmode... Nothing showing up when connecting the USB cable... nothing in device manager..and therefore flashtool sees nothing!
SOLVED
Problem solved! I can't believe it. Two bad(?) USB cables. Bought a new one, charges fine, flashmode fine. Flashed stock ROM.
However the Camera still doesn't work. Maybe the problem of the cable inside which may have come loose!

Need help with bootloop -- A tricky bootloop.. Donation will be given!

Hi there peeps!
My Xperia Z2 has gone into a bootloop, with no recovery, no boot logo, not registering ADB / fastboot drivers anymore.. BUT.. the buttons seems to work, so i may reboot it some different ways. The only indication of life it got, is the red light when booting.
Someone want to tag team with me to find the solution?
Donation will be gived to a working solution
Best regards!
There is no solution for this atm. The best way to fix it is to send it to the service center.

I may have a solution. Red light usually means it cannot boot the kernel.
I have a simple fix. Follow this guide and make sure to download the firmware of your exact model and current software version number.
When you get to this step, on the right side don't check anything under 'WIPE', leave them blank. And under 'EXCLUDE', check everything except 'KERNEL'. Leave Kernel blank and the rest under exclude check them.
Proceed and press 'volume down' and connect the usb cable at the same time. Let the flash finish and boot the phone back up. Let me know how it goes.
Thanks! I'm trying your solution now, but i dont think it works... none of the drivers are either so. Give me some hours, i will walkthrough here
I can say, it is NEARLY dead i would think, but there must be a way somehow..
Yeah, this will not work.. It gets stuck on "HOLD THE VOLUME DOWN + PLUG THE CABLE" and both ADB and Fastboot are missing so.. It won't do anything there. Holding the Volume UP + Power reboots (that works for some reason). And the orange reboot button in the charging is working but nothing that will help me i think.

Click to collapse
When the device is connected in flash mode (USB + Vol down), go to device manager and see if the device is there (may be called 'Xperia Z2" or "Unknown Device", right click and go to properties and update drivers to this. Update me how it goes. I had the EXACT same issue and it took me some time to resolve, by solving the drivers issue you can flash the kernel again without losing data.
If that doesn't work, install these drivers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
Hi!

sony's Pc recovery tool

Try Software repair on the new Xperria Companion
http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/xperiaz2/tools/xperia-companion/
Both Sony Companion and Sony Emma are not registering the devices, but after fiddling around with VOLUME UP, VOLUME DOWN and lots of trying, at some point the device manager finds a unknown device. "hiredantispammer" may got the solution, but i will try all posted solutions right away! Post update soon
1. On "VOLUME DOWN + PLUG" the Device Manager refreshes, and the Z2 got the "red light" -- but Device Manager does not show any connected devices nor drivers needed.
2. The Sony Companion does not find the device either.
But.. i was reading about some Windows 10 driver problems, so i will try switch to Windows 7 x32 to ensure the drivers are working correctly.
Another thought.. Is it some way to put a "update.zip" on a sdcard for force installation of new kernel or anything?
Yeah, the solution is right. Hopefully Win 7 solves your driver issues. I had to reformat my laptop and install Win10 again because of driver issues when I have the exact same issue as you. Hope you get your phone working again!

And no, there's no other safe way to reflash the kernel. Even with an unlocked bootloader, you need fastboot drivers.
This worked for me.
Grab your original cable and make sure the phone is charged to st least 80%.
Start the pc companion and the repair program.
Hold the down key and connect to the computer.
In around 20 minutes the phone is repaired
Hope this helps.
It is important to use proper cable and not any old thing laying around. Mine would not connect until i got the original one.
Ah, charge your device fully. Reboot Windows 10 in safe mode and disable driver signature. Install device drivers. Use Sony PC companion or flashtool to fully reflash the right firmware for you device. You are still able to turn it off and on, so it should work if you do it right.
Best to first flash just the kernel and see if it boots, if it doesn't since you have the firmware files, flash everything and don't wipe data.
