[Q] Better Custom ROM camera for S3 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I like to move to a custom ROM from stock 4.3 in my S3 - GT-I9300. One concern that I have is about the camera performance. I love my stock camera and video recording performances. Can any of you suggest me a Custom ROM which is on par with S3's stock ROM in camera and video recording. Your help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Maybe the new rom has a diff camera app from the stock one... i also noticed my camera quality dropped when flashed a custom rom...try a different camera app like camera zoom fx or any other n see if the quality is still the same.
Mine did the same but I got a app that works fine.

Yeah, different ROMs comes with different settings. So either try editing the settings or go for a different camera.apk. Either way, I think the best thing to do if you really use the camera a lot, then go for a different ROM.
Good luck

So i got CM10.1 on my phone and...

I got Cm 10.1 for a while now and i dont see any difference(talking about speed)
And i dont like the camera style of CM 10.1.
So i was thinking about going back to stock.
Or is there a better rom out there? I like taking pictures. So is there a ROM that improves the camera, And speed up the phone and battery life longer and has all the cool gadgets like video pop out?
Let me know please!
Thanks in advance!

The video pop out is specific to Samsung Stock Rom... And there is no rom that can improve the camera than what it is.. You might try Omega rom that has a camera mod that increases the video quality and adds more features like slow motion capture etc.
Owh okay!
So should i revert back to stock?
Custom roms all have details posted in the roms description .
Your choice to make .

Best rom for G2?

Fast, good battery life, good camera.
Stock LP 30F / AospExtender / other rom?
if camera is priority - skip any non-stock based rom (aka AOSP/AOKP/CM...)
Clody 3.3 best rom others are amateusrs
AOSPA 7 has the best non-stock camera, in my opnion. Its not as good as stock, but i think It comes close. I would say it has like 70% ~ 80% of stock quality. I recommend this ROM or Stock 30F with some debloat+ Dorimanx 12.0
Cloudy is very old rom and not updated.. stock 30F is much more newer version so why installing cloudy rom?
I do not recommend cloudy coz after 3 weeks its freezing. Many lags etc. Very slow rom. After some time is very slow.
I RR, AOSP Extended is also good ( atm running), BlissPop (MM) and my favourite rom from 5.1.1 Dirty Unicorn.
But for 7 i would recommend AOSP or CM.
You have to try them yourself because there is no one ROM that is the best.
AICP if you wan 7.1.1
All roms start to lag after some time, and I hate that about android.. Why do I have to flash a rom after 3 months? 3 months is the best case, some roms even lag after installing necessary apps..
I'm running RR right now. First months were a bliss. Now I can't open snapchat without lag.
When a ROM start to lag try to install Trimmer app, will save you

In my experience, the best rom is official CyanogenMod 13 for d802. It is super smooth, beautiful and very stable! Have been using it for years.

Regarding camera it uses SnapDragon camera optimized for Qualcomm Chipsets, and I believe it is the best camera you can get on a non-stock rom. You can even notice 'image stabilizer' working, didn't notice this feature working on other non-stock roms.
Regarding performance, didn't do any measurement, but it feels really fast and really smooth. I also use greenify. Regarding sound, I can't say anything since I do not know.
Also, according to GSAM battery averages, cm last two times longer than stock rom.
I've been using stock based Google Edition 1.5 with Dorimanx kernel and everything is extremely smooth.
Good battery life
The best camera quality
Smooth UI everywhere
Miracast, Dual Window and Screencast
Privacy guard to block app permissions
Audio over bluetooth works
Audio quality is good, listening with PowerAmp and Sennheisers
GPS has a fast fix
And this is from someone who has tried Cloudy 3.3 and CM 13 previously.

I'm still using KitKat 4.4.2
Dorimanx LG G2 Kernel for STOCK 5.0.2 Branches!
It says that Dorinmanx Kernel does not have support for KitKat 4.4.2
What will be the workaround? what version of Dorinmanx kernel to use?

Try something CAF based like Citrus but that won't improve the camera much.
Unfortunately xiaomi.eu ROM and a custom launcher like Nova are the only way to go if you want a decent camera and good battery life.
And one last thing: Try LineageOS 13 based on Marshmallow by Gizmo. It is supposed to take better pictures than Nougat based ROMs

The camera in custom ROMs based on Nougat is worse than in stock ROM, yes.
In Marshmallow based ROMs, the camera isn't that much worse but the images are still different than with stock. Someone posted photos here on the forum comparing stock and LineageOS 13 camera
Try N os now the camera is some what optimized now 21 St build

There's no point in comparing camera quality between different ROMs.
Historically the area where custom ROMs suffer the most in comparison to stock ROMs is image quality.
More or less the quality will be the same as the software remains the same, Snap camera, and all the ROMs use mostly the same sources for the same hardware.
The difference will be made by software image processing, which only MIUI can provide.
So if you want the best possible image quality from your sub 200$ phone, you have to use MIUI or be satisfied with the camera on your custom ROM.
