I have tried at least 4 or 5 different custom ROMs for the LG E970, counting the one that was on it when I bought it (SlimKat)...
I have installed Google Keyboard and (even after I enabled the Voice Input Key in Android Keyboard Settings) when I go to enable the Voice input key in Google Keyboard Settings, Voice input key is greyed out and below it it says "No voice input methods enabled. Check language and input settings."
I have always used voice typing a lot... Until I got the E970.
Does anybody know how I could get that ability back without having to ditch this phone?
Thanks in advance!

Play store. Download google voice typing.
Edit. Sorry you have google keyboard installed. Check in language settings to make sure voice typing is enabled.
It is enabled.

On top of the enabled options you should be able to choose default input method. In there choose voice.

The only options in the default input method box are Android Keyboard and Google Keyboard.
Am I the only person who uses the OG that uses custom ROMs AND voice typing?...

I think I get what you want now.
So basically in the Language & Input setting you want to make sure there’s a check mark in the box by the item Google Voice Typing.
The default input choose "Google Keyboard". Now go to the app you want to use voice typing, tap on the text field and on the top right of the keyboard you will see a mic. Just press it and you can start using voice typing. This worked for me.
If it still doesn't work you may want to also check you have google search installed. Let me know how it goes.
Thank you so much!!! As much as I hate having Google Search installed, it is much more important to me to be able to use voice typing.
Thank you!!!!!!

I have spent the last three days searching my brains out and have not found an answer to my question.
I recently installed the backside rom in my OV and love it (many thanks) but the stock voice to text feature in messaging included with the virgin mobile rom is no longer there. The feature is gone and the little mic icon on the keyboard is gone. Is there a way to bring it over on the sd card when I install the new rom and then add it back in? Does someone know where to get the files to install back in?
I have tried several market apps but none of them function quite the same or as well as the factory app. I don't want to go back to the stock rom but this feature may be the deal breaker.
Thanks in advance for all your help. love the site.

I appreciate the response and thanks for the welcome but that app is just not quite the same and I do not think it adds an icon to the keyboard when attempting to text.
I would like to now if the original equipment feature is able to be added when flashing the new rom.
thanks again.

Thank you for the reply but I am not looking for an alternative solution I am looking for information on re-installing the original app that comes installed in the phone.
The original function is very user friendly, requires no setup and minimal input to use. Voice search is just not the same. However, if someone knows if Voice can be setup "exactly" like the original app I am all ears.
Thanks again.
In the Display Options of the dialer I've selected just one group from my google contacts to show (not all of my google contacts).
Now when I searched for a contact by name in my ICSed Nexus S if there were no results for the displayed group there was an option to search thru all contacts. There's no such option on my 2.3.x XT910. Not sure wherever it was an option of the ICS (I believe I've had the same option on my Nexus S with GB tho) or it's the non-stock dialer on the Moto, but does anyone have an idea how can I get this functionality in the dialer on my XT910?
thanks!
there is a search button on the dialler. although can't you press the search soft key?
surely it's only searching google because that's the only account you have shown in contacts.......
As I said before, the problem isn't that it's searching within google, the problem that it's searching *only* within displayed group, while on Nexus S the experience is different.
Thanks for the tip about the soft search button, but it did NOT solve my issue -- the dialogue which comes up after I press it only searches contact within displayed group as well.
So if I want to dial a contact by name which isn't in my displayed group it's a PITA.
Have you tried a third party dialler program such as go contacts pro or something else.
I do not have the need for them. But your answer may lay over there.

Would be great if someone who actually *knows* how to solve this (or a dialer which would work same way as the one from Nexus S) could chime in. I'm not really in a position to test out any additional dialers.
So just to get this simplified .....
When you search in the dialler you just want to see a certain group? If so I shall download a few diallers and have a look for you.

With the dialer open, when searching for "Tom" for example, just click the numbers 8 6 6 and you should see the name Tom.

No, the opposite, when I search in the dialer I want the search to be account-wide, not the default display group-wide. If you can test a few dialers for me I'd be much obliged.

That only works within the default display group on Moto, not within the whole account like on Nexus S.
Resolved this by updating to the T-Mo 4.0.4 leak. In the ICS the search runs globally in all contacts despite the display option setting in the contacts app.
Hey guys, did a quick Google search on this and didnt see any answers to this bizarre quirk.
I am on non-rooted ICS (stock) - no comments from the peanut gallery about this. Once CM is stable enough that I feel I can use it, Ill switch.
Now, on to the problem.
I installed Chrome and set it to the default browser (but Ill probably change it considering what Im about to post) and set the home page to google.
I begin typing a search query, for example, 'Samsung AT&T No' and Google presents some suggestions of what it thinks Im going to actually search for. Tapping ANY of these suggestions hides the suggestion list and does NOT fill in my query with the suggestion I tapped. In addition, the keyboard is also hidden until I tap in the query edit field again.
In addition, Id like to just state for the record, xda is TERRIBLE on mobile (the website). I dont know what this new 'theme' is but it is barely functional on mobile, on the desktop, the website is completely broken in Firefox (14.0.1 w/ No Script and Tree Style Tabs plugins installed - and yes, I am enabling scripting for XDA).
So, I have reverted to the old xda theme until this is fixed.
BUT, does anyone know what is wrong with Chrome?
Is Chrome out of beta?
if you click the arrow next to the auto complete search query it will fill it in for you.

Yeah I was having this same issue. I am rooted and using the stock browser, same goes for the google search widget. But the answer above solves the problem.

The voice requests and cards work just fine. But Google Now doesn't to "talk back" through the speakers like it does on my GNex phone.
"Speach Output" setting in Google Now is set to "Always Speak"... but nuthin'.

Seems like alot of people are having problems with the update. Did you do a factory restore after the update? im still waiting till im off for a few days after before i update mine. hopefully won't have the problems everyone else is reporting
Also had this problem.
Go to : Settings -> Language and input -> Change Language to English (United States). Seems to only work on that.

That worked, thanks.
is google now suppose to only respond to certain questions? I hear it sometimes, but i thought it would talk back like siri.
i love this feature, and think its a standout feature, since it can do more things in my country than siri does.
it still doesn't work :\

Mine didn't respond initially but i changed the language settings from the search to English (UK) and it started talking back to me
I'd like there to ne an XDA mode, where if you ask it a stupid question it flames you weveral times with different voices 8)
it works with english (US) Thanks
For those who tried everything and still nothing - try this
Guys, there is my solution:
- Set your locale to whatever you want
- Set the Google Now Voice Language to English US
- Voice Output to Always
- Remove the tick(untick the box) on Hide Offensive Words
I spent hours of tinkering with this and tried all kinds of options, but in the end that solved it for me. This is because recently there was an update to Google Search, which is the application designation for Google Now and it introduced this bug.
I have my locale to my native one English UK en-GB and everything works like a charm as it should be and as it used to work before the update.

+1 to this. Turns out that my SYSTEM volume was muted for some reason. You could also go into Settings>Sound>Volume>System (adjust as needed)

Have a new Sammy Galaxy S3 and want to change the voice mail access number to get my GV messages instead of T-mo VM. Long press 1 takes me to the std T-mo VM.
Can't figure out how to change this number on the handset!
I have several other Android phones (Nexus 1, MT3G, G1) where I was able to change this number.
Any help? Sorry in advance if posted in wrong place and/or if this was answered already, but didn't find anything posted using search.
Thanks!

Thanks but, no dice. I don't (can't) get a window to display like yours! The "Use Call Fail Options" check box isn't available.
T-Mo problem? What's so weird is that I've changed this setting before on other Android phones running on T-Mo.
Really appreciate your help! If you can think of anything else, please let me know!
