Battery is superb.
The screen, OMG its nice.
Phone is smooth as butter, despite heavy Sense.
Build quality is great.
However, so many games that I truly enjoy and have purchased do not work. The legacy menu button on so many apps eats screen real estate, and it is ridiculous.
I am aware that these aren't really the phone's fault entirely, but if the phone isn't a big seller, developers are going to drag their feet. That means we see fixes in months and in smartphone years, that's ancient.
So while I believe software will catch up, it will be later when 1080p becomes more mainstream. By that time, I am looking for another phone. So why do I want to suffer with incompatibilities?
Please don't tell me to sideload my stuff; I am getting incompatibility messages on launch as well.
As for the legacy menu, this is a two-fold problem.
1. Developers are lazy and not updating to Android standards like they should.
2. There is an abundance of false legacy menus.
The first issue needs to be fixed by app devs, period. The second one baffles me. I have a Galaxy Nexus. Not one of my apps has a legacy menu in it because if they did I wouldn't use it. Yet, my phone doesn't have a menu key either.
However, I am getting legacy menus, even in some games. What is worse, these menus don't work, or they replicate a clickable menu in the game. Why??? My Galaxy Nexus didn't have that issue. I can't even enjoy the screen to its full potential with legacy menus. I am aware I can mod this myself, but that isn't the point.
I know they are small nitpicks, but I think the screen in all its awesomeness might kill it for me as well with incompatibilities. I am not naive enough to believe that these will be cleared up any time soon.
The little black bar on the bottom doesn't bother me at all. I barely notice it. Just another one of those "opinions will vary" things.

The fact that this exists is kind of odd. When the One X(s) launched they had the same set up and it was even more annoying having less screen real estate to work with. HTC fixed it in the 4.0.3>4.0.4 update a couple of months ago. Basically, the recent apps capacitive button became a toggle. You were given three options:
1) As-is; launch recent apps
2) Long-press=recent apps, short-press=settings
3) Long-press=settings; short-press=recent apps
Check out the Teg3 One X dev forum. You should be able to find a solution you can port there.

Ironically, HTC removed that option for the DNA.
It finally pushed me overboard. The app compatibility, that is. I returned the DNA. I got tired of playing Russian roulette with app purchases and wondering if I was going to run into a problem.

VZW seems to enjoy butchering their devices from stock. There's a ton "enhancements" they made to the N2 that really don't make any sense. S-Planner is one of the coolest and most functional S-Pen enabled apps and they removed it and have Google Calendar set as the default. They also made the Wi-Fi notification toggle in to a Wi-Fi monitor so you have to go in to settings manually to turn Wi-Fi off and on. The N2 has a call and MMS blocking tool that they disabled also. Odd.
I agree about the menu button; it would have been better if it only took a small screen estate on either corners at the bottom instead.
As for compatibility issue, I have not yet came across that problem...well probably because I do not play any games. I'm sure many apps will start to optimize for the 1080p resolution, now that we have it on the phone.
I have been using Samsung Fascinate ever since it came out...even with the minimal level of developer support before it boomed with tons of roms, I had no problem using it for all of my essential needs. People usually assume that outdated devices are incapable of handling most tasks, but I think a single core is enough to cover a smartphone's functionalities. I bought the DNA because its spec somewhat overkills the current smartphone standards to the extent where it will be enough for another three or five years.
Technology will only continue to advance without ever having a "Peak", so I wouldn't stress over playing the waiting game for the next new thing to come out. Well, that's just me of course

Now that a 1080P phone has hit the market you can expect the spec wars to continue. The rumored SGS4 is supposed to have a 1080P display as well as an unannounced LG phone. People with the N10 are having the same issue. So it'll get resolved in time it's a matter of whether you're willing to wait.

The only issue is that those 1080p phones won't hit the mainstream market until April-May timeframe. This even further emphasizes the fact that DNA is the phone from the future... As an early adopter, I'm loving it!

I am also disappointed with game incompatibility, but keeping the DNA as I don't play that much. My son was upset about angry birds star wars turning up as a black screen though.

I really hope the device takes off. It has a ton of untapped potential.
I don't really game so I haven't come across any applications that don't work on this device. My two primary applications, however, are Facebook and Twitter...and the menu bar at the bottom is just a straight up pain in the ass. I don't understand why they couldn't either 1) add capacitive menu button or 2) do the menu buttons like the Galaxy S3/Note 2 etc. It just seems like an awful design decision to me, and I'm surprised more reviews didn't pick up on it.
It's things like this that lends to consumers thinking that Android lacks the 'polish' of iOS. I know it's not Android's fault by design, but the average consumer doesn't tend to care about AOSP vs. Sense, etc.
HTC completely changing sense on every update is baffling. They are so terrified of their market loss that it appears they have zero confidence.
And what happened to the button remap mod in 4.1? Gone.
I think this may be my last HTC phone if they don't get their **** together

Definitely admire your choice. I feel like the DNA is the better phone for me, but then again, I don't do any gaming. And the Note 2, with its screen size, S pen, memory and massive battery make it a good choice for you my friend. I wish I could own both.

Wow, this post was spot on! I'm an android newbie and DNA is my fist phone without the menu button. So all this time I'm seeing these 3 dots at the bottom taking up precious real estate and I JUST signed up in this forum so that I could ask what is it and how to remove it. I'm glad I found this thread cause I've about reached the point where I'm ready to return this phone back!!
Let me ask you this, do you think it will better? Also in the end I didn't get it, is it the apps fault or is it HTC sense that's at fault for not letting us have a choice. Also one final question, are there any other mods that allow you to change the setting, making the recent apps button act like a settings buttion?
and lastly THANK you for sharing my frustration! At least I know I'm not alone or crazy for being so annoyed that I'm losing at least .3 of an inch. What's the point of advertizing that it's a 5" phone then?!

Note: it can be fixed through root and mods. HTC may patch it as well eventually.

Oh I know. The menu thing was fixable. It was the app compatibility that made me decide.
Now I understand that I'm in a DNA forum, but am trying to get some responses from people who have made the switch. I love the amount of Roms and customization that I have with my s3. I can get 4 hours of screen time easy.
I'm just trying to see what in comparison to the S3 I'll be getting. I know the resolution is better and the quad vs. Dual processor etc.
Just trying to see what you all liked better after making the switch.

battery, definitely better on dna. I'm at 65% right now with over 2 hours of screen on time. And this is with full brightness watching yt and playing games.
as you mentioned the screen and processor are better, and this definitely shows. I rarely see a loading screen and games look amazing and can run maxed out no problem
touchwiz vs sense. This is really for you to decide, sense is more polished, professional looking, and customizable on stock, but you loose features of touchwiz
But honestly, it is a decision for you to make. I recommend checking out some comparison videos on youtube
To be honest the battery was scaring me. I had a rezound and that thing was horrible. I don't use touchwiz cause I'm running aokp. I love flashing new ROMs and am scared there aren't going to be many since HTC likes to lock their phones down. I've never been a big fan of sense. I guess I could just install another launcher.
How about the size comparison. I know the specs are almost the same with the DNA a tad thicker.

although the dna is thicker on paper, it feels thinner because of how it is curved
ive had both.
s3 has more options. more roms. easier to unlock.
screen is fancier on the dna.
battery and sd card are up to you. i dont use much space or have ever switched out batteries so im ok.
hugest things for me right now are sense. it does NOT have as many options. it is NOT as polished, imo. its cluttered and illogical compared to the s3. youll see!
for example, no toggles in the status bar. and no options in the settings for it.
HUGEST gripe and a deal breaker if i cant easily root this thing soon (which is another problem. theyre still using adb.) its that the menu key doesnt bring up the menu. it brings up the latest apps. and you cant reroute it. its not in the settings. seriously wtf were they thinking?
and it gets worse. not only does it not work and you cant change it, but to allow you to use the menu in apps, what do they do? THEY PUT HUGE BAR on the screen!!!
its kinda like seeing a really really hot girl who has as all this style and all...and then you realize shes utterly crazy. or its like getting a porche and they take out the steering wheel and replace it with an atari 2600 joystick!
if i cant root this and thus fix this crap fast im taking it back.

rooting the dna is not hard, if it's to much of a pain to use adb return it and get a iphone. everything you pointed out is nit-picking.

1. If you don't know how to use adb you shouldn't even bother with rooting. Just watch the "how to" video at the same time as you're unlocking it. It's pretty damn simple.
2. The menu button you speak of is easily fixed if you root and put a custom rom on your phone. All of the current roms allow you to reroute the recent button to menu/recents, which would get rid of the menu bar on the screen.

that is really the only example. Other than that sense is far more polished and professional, touchwiz looks cartoonish

you can root the dna, and its not too hard either. If youre scared of using adb then go get an iphone

thats not a menu button. As per android conventions there is a back, home, and recent apps button(I have no clue what samsung was thinking with their devices with their weird layout). Is it annoying that they took out the option to remap it, sure, but thats what rooting is for. And that black bar only shows up in apps that arent up to ics conventions, so yea, not that big of a deal in the first place.
and that 'hugh' bar, yea thats not htc's doing, its googles
Just so you guys know let's lay some facts out here
1 adb should be a skill before rooting phones like stated above you shouldn't be messing with a phone until you're comfortable with fastboot and adb
2. Verizon dictated the specs not HTC....god knows why Verizon didn't want a remap option available ....
3. My friend has the DNA and my father has the s3... If you're looking for aosp based roms samsung may be you're choice ....I have the one xl and cm10 runs beautifully on it but it's a tad behind other devices....sense grows on you after a while you'll see

Thanks for all the replies. I really do like my Samsung. And since I'm a crack flasher I'll prolly just keep this. I love to try out new software and I'm really hooked on cm10 which I don't think is going to be available on the DNA.

I have S3 to compare. International version. The battery life is just a bit better on DNA. The screen, no need to say. Voice quality - HTC is much louder, clear speaker. Network reception quality is better on HTC. Both phones work on GSM. S3 running stock JB, DNA is running ROM. Design, for me DNA is much better designed. Plus, wireless charger is very useful on work desk.

I am able to upgrade from the Rezound to either of these phones (or anything else for that matter). I am up in the air about it. The Galaxy S3 has a big community from what I can see. The only thing that scares me about the DNA is whether the community will be there. The Rezound community is always bickering at each other and every time I turn around, we loose another developer. I rarely even look at the forum any more because there isn't much going on there. When I had my OG Droid Incredible, the community was just flat out kicking ass.
I am going to watch this thread and see if it can help me make up my mind. I may just wait to see what comes out later. Thanks for any more input (and I do realize I'm on a DNA thread).
in my opinion, if you have an s3, i wouldnt make the switch.
the DNA is sweet dont get me wrong, but theres something that still leaves me missing my s3. Sure its only a dual core, but that thing screams. The screen is better on the dna. Not by a ton, but it is better. However, I still prefer the contrast and saturation from super amoled displays. the DNA has superior radios as well. Holds a signal much stronger than the s3. Also, yes, the dev community on the s3 is HUGE as it is a cross carrier phone. I miss that as well. I hate the way sense looks and cant wait to slap an aosp rom on this thing.
I miss the speaker volume from the s3, and Im not a big fan of sense. I actually find that my battery lasted longer on my s3 than it did on this phone.
The power button and charger door flap piss me off as well.
Now dont get me wrong, the DNA is a AWESOME device and Im only nitpicking here. And I will be keeping it. The build quality is superb. But to me, the DNA is not worth the upgrade from the s3 unless you catch a super good deal on one. I managed to get one brand new on Craigslist for 450. I went from a gs3>ip5>DNA, so I just traded my ip5 straight up for a DNA. There are pros and cons to each phone, my advice would be to try them both in store
I went from gs3 to DNA and my biggest worry was battery life,which with identical use between devices has been unfounded. Where I really noticed the difference in the screens was in direct sunlight. The gs3s was hard to see and the DNAs is surprisingly clear. Hopefully a dev community grows here but we've already got some kernel devs. And some stock romsso we are off to a good start. Sweep2wake is awesome. sense does suck (as does touchwhiz imo)

I personally would wait for a bigger upgrade. I don't see much to be excited about on the DNA if you already have the s3 which is a fantastic phone in itself. I love my DNA, but for you that isn't much of an upgrade IMO.
Thanks for all the responses!! I'm leaning towards keeping my s3. One of the big factors is dev support. There are so many ROMs and tweaks since its a cross carrier phone.
I might just keep looking on craigslist or online for a deal. Plus is just read that the galaxy s4 is dropping in march.

I apologized if I ignore anything or repeat anything that's been said, but I couldn't make it through the first response.
The DNA is substantially worse in battery life when compared to the S3 during use. I could get 16-20 hours with moderate to heavy usage on the S3. The DNA will give me about 11-13 hours with the same usage. When not in use the DNA does at least hold up to the S3, but surprisingly I've only gone down 13% in the last 6 and a half hours.
I've had the S3 for the past 2 months. I've had the DNA for half a week.
What I liked about the S3 was TouchWiz. Not the look of it, but the features. There are too many to list and most of them are useful. Unlocking/rooting is pretty simple once you understand how to use Odin, and you're good from there.
What I like about the DNA is the size. It's definitely just a large smartphone (compared to my Note 2 which is damn big and requires 2 hands for optimum use), and HTC did a great job keeping the rest of the phone tucked into the screen and keep it super thin. The screen looks fantastic. The software... junk. Sense has nothing to offer other than a style, one that I don't find appealing. I'm dying to get an AOSP based ROM on this thing, AOKP would be awesome. Due to VZW blocking it from being unlocked via HTC Dev by default, rooting it is a long process and if ADB is new to you then you'll have a difficult time. Compared to the S3, there's barely any ROM options.
If I had to pick between the two, I'd have a tough time but I'd probably lean towards the DNA based on the large, nice screen, small size (for it's large screen). If battery is more important, there's a good change the S3 will be better. If size doesn't matter and you've got the extra $100, get the Note 2. Won't regret it.
As for the upgrade being worth it? Not unless you're dead-set on getting a new phone.
I have an AT&T HTC One arriving shortly as a new customer on AT&T. I understand I have 14 days to try it out, so I want to make sure I put it to a full test. This will be my first HTC device since the Windows Mobile days, so I have a few questions to ask before starting to use my phone. I am not entirely for sure, but I will probably end up rooting and using custom roms, but probably not until the 14 days are over. With that in mind, here are my questions:
1) Should I unlock the bootloader right away? I understand that doing so erases everything on my phone, but it should not cause any problems if I decide to return the phone, right?
2) If I decide to root after the 14 days are up, I do not have to wipe the phone again, do I?
3) If I decide to use a custom rom, do I understand correctly that I will indeed have to wipe the phone again (but not the /sd card contents???) Meaning, my pictures/videos and all that will remain, but I will have to wipe the system?
4) My area does not yet have LTE (coming later this summer), so is there a way for me to turn it off to save on battery, or do I even need to attempt this?
5) I've been using an iPhone 5 since launch and it is still scratch-free without using a case. I'd prefer not to use a case with the One as well, and I only have my phone in my pocket. Is it reasonable to expect that my One will hold up as well as the iPhone 5 in this area?

i seriously doubt you will be returning this phone before the 14 days. especially if your coming from the iphone 5. this is the only phone that rivals the build quality of iphones. i have had mine since the release for tmobile and not one scratch on it. my girl has the iphone 5 and imo it cant touch this phone.
if apple and android had a baby it would be the htc one.

Well that's exactly what I'm looking for.
I go back and forth between iOS and Android on a yearly basis, it seems. I've had the iPhone 5 since launch on Verizon, and I just returned the Samsung GS4 because it was very laggy and was locking up at least once per day. I'm going to try the HTC One on AT&T (even though the One has just been confirmed for Verizon later this summer) because I am tired of Verizon's policies. I'm tired of them taking longer than anyone else to get phones. I'm tired of their "customizations" like the persistent WIFI notification on the GS4 that no other carrier has. I'm tired of their locked bootloaders and locked down CDMA network. I'm sure AT&T will have its share of frustrations, but LTE is coming in my area this summer and I'm looking to try something different. I'm keeping my Verizon line for now since I have unlimited data on it, but I'm thinking the 5GB plan on AT&T will be more than enough (and I get a 25% discount through my employer).

this phone doesnt lag. probably the closes thing to the smoothness of ios. and yea dont get that cdma garbage from verizon at&t,tmo or developer version is the way to go as far as custom rom options at least for now. if you want more in depth info check out mike1986. review of the phone. he has only done the first part of the review but he is a developer over on the international thread for this phone.

Thanks for the reassurance. The lag on the GS4 was unbearable and even worse than I expected given my previous experience with the GS3 a year ago. Even after turning off every S-feature I could find, enabling the developer options and changing the animations, and disabling as much bloatware as I could, the phone still lagged when scrolling and just felt unresponsive at times.
If I really like it, I don't know how long I'll hold onto my Unlimited Data plan on Verizon. On AT&T, I understand that unlimited data users are throttled after 5GB anyway, right? I think 5GB will be plenty, as I normally hover in the 3-4GB range on Verizon each month (and that's with a good deal of music streaming and Youtube watching). I guess if I go over once in a while, I can afford the $10 for an extra gig now and then.
My only concerns right now are battery life and the buttons. I've seen mixed reports on battery life - some saying it is abysmal, others saying it's actually very good. I'm keeping my expectations tempered as I've just been using two of the better phones in this area (iPhone 5 and GS4). I'm not expecting battery life to be as good as those, but if it can last my through my 8 hours of work (no WIFI there), then I'll be okay.
The buttons, I'm sure I'll get used to. But I'm definitely looking forward to the 4.2.2 update that allows for the long press of Home for Menu, right? Will this also give you the option to get rid of the Menu bar that appears below non-standard apps that don't conform to Google's specs?

Since this is my first HTC Android device, there are some terms and methods I am not familiar with. I've used the Galaxy Nexus and the GS3 in the past and was able to understand enough to unlock the bootloaders and install custom roms on those devices. However, when reading about the HTC One, there are some things I do not yet understand:
1) I understand that the AT&T, T-Mobile, and International versions are basically identical hardware-wise, right?
2) What is CID, Hboot, and RUU? I don't remember having to deal with any of those terms with the Nexus and GS3. All I understand about the HTC One so far is that I need to unlock the bootloader at HTC's website. I'm sure I can also follow the instructions to root the device. Installing recoveries and custom roms is where things start to get a little foggy for me with this device.
3) I'm probably going to want to stick with a stock rom of some type because I am actually looking forward to some of the HTC features (especially with the camera). If the "Android Experience" rom still has some of the custom software for the camera, etc, then I might be interested in that. Otherwise, I just want to be rooted at 4.2.2 with a debloated device running as smoothly and as stable as possible.

1- yes pretty much the same
2- cid is your phone id which tells you what ruu you need. ruu is the stock rom your phone came with. hboot you really dont need to worry about until we get s-off
3- all the custom sense roms include all the htc features so no worries there

and btw with the battery life when i first got my htc one battery life was average at best but after a few battery cycles it improved.
first week probably averaged about 10-12 hrs with 6hrs on data with the rest wifi
second week 15-20 hrs with 6 hrs data
after that it pretty much leveled out and i average around 30 hrs 6 hrs on data and anywhere from 4-7 hrs screen time and all data is lte i dont turn data to 4g or 3g to save battery. so the first 7-10 days you might be cutting it close to get through the day on a single charge. a lot depends on signal strength though. i think most of those bad battery threads were from people who just got the phone and battery wasnt good at first. might also be because of stock rom. i flashed a custom sense rom the first day i got the phone
Ok, I got my HTC One today and so far I am loving it! However, I am disappointed to see that there is a persistent notification for "Power Saver". Argh, on the GS4 there was a persistent notification for WIFI (on Verizon), and now this one. What is it with these guys and their non-removable persistent notifications? I guess they think people are that stupid (and maybe most are on), but there should at least be an option to turn it off.
So from what I'm reading, the only thing I can do is to force close it each time, or to root my device and install a mod? Really?

yea pretty much but not really an issue for me because i never intended to stay stock
oh and btw s-off has just been released in the international forum so you might want to keep an eye over there. with that you will be able to go back to complete stock without any trace of unlocking and rooting
hows the smoothness for you? i know your an iphone guy and i would like to hear your feedback

Yeah, I'm not too worried about the notification either because I will eventually root and rom... not for a while though.
I am in love with the design of the phone, to be an honest. I feel it tops my iPhone in almost every way in terms of hardware. The iPhone is still more smooth, but I think it's more a matter of Apple prioritizing the touch response and animations over everything else. The One is definitely more smooth than the GS4, though, and I noticed that right away. The Facebook app still stutters, but I think that's just Facebook's fault... it stutters if you scroll before everything has loaded.
I've set up Nova launcher with a shortcut to Blinkfeed (which I actually like). Disappointed that I can't use the HTC widgets in Nova, but I'm finding replacements. Charging the battery now (which I read takes longer than average), and tonight at work will be my first "real" test with the phone.

you can make another screen your home screen with sense launcher so you dont have blinkfeed in your face everytime you unlock the phone. and just so you know i just tried the s-off and it works on my tmo htc one. i successfully got s-off tampered removed and supercid. its confirmed working for at&t also

Yes, I figured out the Blinkfeed thing. Right now I am using Nova Launcher with a shortcut to Blinkfeed when I want to use it. The only thing bad about using Nova is that a bunch of the HTC widgets are not there anymore to use. Power toggles, Clocks/Weather, FM Radio widget, etc are all missing when using Nova Launcher. I understand that HTC widgets are only visible when using the Sense launcher? That's a bummer...
So explain again what the advantage of s-off is? Just so you can go back to completely stock if something goes wrong?
I think I will wait for this upcoming 4.2.2 OTA before deciding whether to unlock my bootloader and/or root. I'll take the time right now just to learn the phone and start reading all of the forums.

Ah, I see. With the AT&T OTA update rumored to be coming out in the next week or two, I think I'll just wait right now before jumping in.
Ironically, LTE just lit up in my area (Quad Cities, Davenport IA area) last night, so I was able to try that out as well!
So my first night at work with the new phone was very successful. Here are some things I noticed when comparing the One to my normal usage on the iPhone 5 with Verizon:
- LTE speeds on AT&T were comparable to Verizon at my workplace. However, AT&T had better penetration because my iPhone (and past LTE Android phones) would drop down to 3G deep inside the building, whereas AT&T stayed on LTE the whole time. In fact, I think the One has only dropped down to 4G (HSPA+) one or two times since I got it, whereas the Verizon phones constantly change between 3G and LTE.
- Battery life on the One was surprisingly good! My normal 8-hour shift consists mostly of playing Doggcatcher podcasts at 1.5 speed through Bluetooth headphones. I also use the phone on my breaks, along with a bit of Hotspot tethering for my iPad. With my iPhone 5, I'm normally at 40-50% battery life when I leave work, and the One was right about there as well. I would say that the One is very efficient when the screen is off, but a bit of a sucker when using the screen. That's to be expected, especially with that nice bright screen. Overall, I am very pleased and quite relieved to discover that I'll make it through a day of work no problem.
- The speakers are amazing! This is the first phone I can actually listen to music on without cringing. Having the speakers in the front of the phone is huge advantage as well. The iPhone 5 is no slouch in the audio department, but the One is noticeably better.
- I like the screen better on the One compared to the Galaxy S4. The latter has better blacks and contrast, but lacks color accuracy and is practically unviewable outdoors. I am definitely getting spoiled by these high DPI displays! The extra screen real estate on the One compared to the iPhone is liberating. Apple needs to release a larger screen iPhone now - not next year - because nobody who uses the larger 1080p screen is ever going to go back to the puny 4" screen again.

As you start reading up on the forums you may find the posts about how AT&T "fluffs" the signal. I am running the international trick droid ver 7.0.0 and it does have the same speed just the signal bar is not tweaked for simulated better signal. Also this rom has build options to remove the three dot menu as well as debloat and turn off power save notification. It runs like butter no laggs. I dont have or use FB so i cant speak for it. Keep us posted on how you like it.
How many of you are still using a Rezound?
I still am and it's my first and only smartphone I've ever owned. Still working great! Of course I wish some things were better (like the battery and lag) or that I had a better phone, but the Rezound has been good for me. I may get an S5 or might wait it out a little longer until the 64-bit chips come.

I'm in about the same boat. The Rezound is my third smartphone. I had a Touch Diamond and an Ozone before, both HTC. I really like the build quality of HTC, but I'm hesitant to get another one because of the update timing questionability and the nonremovable battery trend. I am happy they added the external SD card option back with the M8, though. I don't want to risk my unlimited data and I can't afford to buy a new phone at full price right now, so I'll be sticking with the Rezound for a good time (probably at least until the end of the year) longer. Mine i is working fine still, so no worries here.
I just retired mine after a 2 1/2 year run, picked up a G2 on swappa to keep my unlimited. My Rezound was still working fine, just got tired of the poor battery life on it.
Still using my rezound, can afford to replace it but don't want to, so long as it's still usable.

I just bought an extended battery for my Rez and running a custom build of LiquidSmooth 3.0, I'm quite happy with it for now. Yes, there's more capable hardware out there. But this still meets my needs for now.
We have two Rezounds that are about 2 years old and we still love them. These are our first smartphones and with the developer community doing such fine work to keep them up-to-date I can see no reason to change. The battery life has been decent enough and switching to larger screen phones isn't something we want to do. I like the extra screen real estate, but don't want the larger form factor when lugging it around.

I still use the Rezound. Not for calling+texting+data-ing like I did for a while not so long ago, but just as my game phone for games that are too laggy on my Rugby Smart (my current actual phone for calling, texting, etc.). On a good day I can get about 1.5 hrs of battery in game play, but It's plugged into either the wall or the computer most of the time anyway so that doesn't really bother me. If my Rugby were to ever break (HIGHLY UNLIKELY, it was designed to do QUITE THE OPPOSITE), the Rezound would be my next option for a backup until I would either fix the Rugby or replace it with a device that has better battery life compared to the Rez (everyone else has nicknames for it, this is mine).
I could just get an extended battery for it, but that's like 10 whole dollars. That is 2/3 of what I paid for this phone, so it's not even worth it to me to replace anything that still works (the camera glass was a different story, i just HAD to replace that). I originally got the thing as a see-if-I-can-fix-it phone from a friend who thought it was broken forever and was able to fix the darn thing with the help of XDA. And of course, I was pleasantly surprised when I found out GSM was a hidden feature on it. Anyway, if I got an extended battery my rubber case I got with it would be too small and I'd hate to see such a nice case go to waste.
Still using the rezound and hoping to get an xperia z2 soon. Might switch carriers to T-mobile, anyone have opinions on t-mobile?
I am happy with tmobile. I got the unlimited everything plan for 45/month and coverage is great. They even let you tether to other devices! Tmobile says you only get like 500mb of tether data, but if you root your phone and use an app like Barnacle Wifi Tether you can get around that limit.

I just upgraded to the S5 (keeping unlimited plan). I'm not holding my breath on getting a root for it - seems like the guys over there are panicking already.
I just really feel like my ReZound is still up and running because I was able to swap out the battery - the original isn't lasting much more than 8 hours on minimal use today. I feel the next phone I get needed to have a battery I could swap out as well - and the only one that currently meets that need is Samsung (unfortunately). Here's hoping that in two years, when I'm eligible for upgrade again - that HTC brings back a phone with an interchangeable battery and expandable memory or maybe even whatever Google ARA comes out as.
I am still using my rezound and plan to for a little longer right now I cant decide between htc m8 and the galaxy s5 Im trying to figure out how to keep my unlimited data. I just went to best buy and they said I cannot do the line swap to keep it so I am exploring other options. I might have to upgrade sooner than I thought though because my screen just died on my phone. I took it apart and looks like I missed some corrosion from when I dropped it in a lake 6 months ago. I ordered a replacement screen so I hope that will fix it.

I'm still on mine and went to Sun Dream's Rom running sense 4+4.1+5 and it is super snappy,solid and beautiful...I tried AOSP ROMs that were running 4.3+ but they were too buggy for me.
I have a hairline crack across my phone but I'm trying not to be anal and replace it...thinking about upgrading but see no good options for data plans...

How do you like the S5 compared to the ReZound?
It is different - but I like it. The screen is beautiful. The interface is different - not bad or good - just not what I'm used to. I do like the home button though - long press to get Google Now and double press to get S-Voice. There are quite a bit of Samsung apps that I'm enjoying. S-Health is nice, but there is a widget that shows how many steps you have taken in the day - and for some reason it motivates me to walk more. The Smart Remote is very complete - including remote codes for my WD-Live box and drop down for every room I have in the house. There is another app call BeepNGo - where you can put all your club/membership cards on (Tom Thumb, AutoZone, etc...). The screen will show the bar code and it can be scanned at the register. There are coupons in that app as well.
NFC actually works. Verizon activates ISIS - which is like Google Wallet. There are deals on it and where it can be used. Google Wallet works as well - which is nice. I've heard in the past that Verizon locked it down - so it is nice to see it up and running.
Camera is absolutely amazing IMO. It struggles a bit in low light, but it really is a champ everywhere else. The software allows you to download more picture taking options - including now the sphere mode. The effects sometimes take a little time to correct - but at least the camera works to it's fullest (yes - taking a little jab at ReZound camera issues in Kit-Kat)...
Everything I wanted in a phone - it has it. I managed to drain the battery one day of really heavy use - but otherwise the battery does a great job. I'll be getting a spare at some point.
The root is still not found - and as a result I'm missing the native WiFi Tether - which was really cool to have on the ReZound. There is a way to get the connection using the USB cable and PDA+Net software - but it really is a backwards hack to get it up and running.
A lot of people complain about the look & feel of the phone. Quite honestly - I don't care for - the first thing I did was buy a case for it. If I had the M8 - I'd do the same thing. I will always want a cover to keep the phone from getting scuffed and better protect the screen and camera lens.
Bottom line - I like the phone a lot. I'm not going to trade the replaceable battery for the ability to root (which I feel is the current trade off at the moment).

How is the data and voice reception compared to the Rezound? I've been thinking about getting the S5, but I don't want reception issues, especially with data because where I work, the overall phone reception is less than other places, but my rezound does ok at work depending on where I place myself.

It's about the same. Maybe slightly stronger, but not much of a difference.
Still using mine, hope it lasts until I get a OnePlus One.
About a year ago I got a really really good deal on a GS5. It wouldn't have been my choice under normal circumstances, but it was worth a try. There were some good things and some annoying things about it.
Last weekend I decided that I had enough of the annoying things, specifically around using the phone as a phone, which I had to do due to problems with my landline. When I thought about temporarily using my LGOG, I thought it might also be a good time to try a custom ROM, something I had shied away from previously since it was my only phone and I wasn't comfortable with the stability of what was available at the time.
So I went out and grabbed the freegee app and a stable Cyanogenmod release and it's like having a new phone again. 4.4.4 for now -- I was not in any hurry for Lollipop on the GS5 but it might be worth it on the LGOG.
I'll only really miss a few things about the GS5 - primarily the screen that I can read with polarized sunglasses, the multicolor status LED I can use with lightflow, and the camera - since I am now on KK on the LGOG. The performance of the LGOG is now comparable to what the GS5 felt like when it was new, and as of this afternoon with minimal tweaking I think I have the battery life under control. I really like the physical design of the LGOG better, and CM has answers for most of the stuff I'd tweaked on the GS5.
Agreed, I installed bliss pop on my lgog and It flies. I've always liked the design of the Optimus G. I might just put down my g3 for a few and use this.

Glad your enjoying the OG. I'm still using one after 1.5 years and its amazing. My biggest grip is that bcus I'm on T-Mobile I don't get lte. I after a custom ROM really makes a different especially the KK ones. Lollipop still eats a lot of battery for me so I think the phone has reached its limitation. Hopefully this phone can still get the support bcus it would suck to invest on another phone.

I have the LG Official Kitkat 4.4.2[stock] that was ported from the korean version of our phone and was slightly modified by Paulicat to install without the need to freegee after installation. The ROM runs very smooth. It would be perfect if I could figure out how to fix two issues. The first issue is an annoying data network setting prompt that happens when I boot up which tells me that I will incur additional data charges. There is a setting under mobile networks that is checked called "ask when data connected" Whenever I try to uncheck it it reverts back to being checked. The second is under access point names. There are two other apn there that I cannot delete for some reason. If I could figure out how to get rid of the incur data charges prompt when using data and delete the extra apn's, this ROM would be perfect.
LGOG has been one of the best phones I ever owned. LG abandoned it too quickly.
During a thunder storm, I ran from one building to another, not realizing my LGOG fell out of the holster and landed on the bottom front corner in the middle of the parking lot. I found it 30 minutes later face down, I thought that was the end. Nope! just a small (and I mean tiny ding) in the corner, Glass was perfect, without a scratch. I came back in the office and told everyone where I found it. They looked all sad and asked how the screen was. I replied "No problems, it's not an iPhone!" I have it for about 2.5 years the glass is still perfect, never had a screen protector on it.
Unfortunately, as much as I love this phone, I think mine has hit EOL. The battery, although it still gets me through the end of the day, is beginning to drain faster. That and I just picked up a LG Urbane (which I also like), and i think it would pair better with 5.1. I'm just having the hardest time trying to find a phone with the same great features. I just don't know why everyone is into the giant tablets for a phone, and if you want a smaller screen 5" or less, the specs are lousy.
Thanks to everyone on this forum that has helped me keep my LG up to date for the past 2.5 years. I may watch the forum and see if an official 5.1 or M comes out for the LGOG and it might be enough to make me return.
Anyway, didn't mean to steal the thread, I've just been thinking about switching for about three months, and then read the thread, thinking it may be me soon.
