anti shatter proof is scratched = now what ? - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Hello everyone,
Today I wanted to test a pencil on my device.
I tried to make the pencil itself very soft.
I made no pressure on the surface of the screen.
Now I have additional scratches.
(I got already some before)
I also have a begining of removal of the coating.
What should I do now ?
Contact Sony and ask for replacelemt of the filter ?
Buy a filter and remove the stock filter and put this one ?
What have I to do ? (I never put it outside from home)

Is this one is alright ?
http://www.befr.ebay.be/itm/Genuine...esCasesPouches&var&hash=item338af4aa42&_uhb=1
(I will remove the old asf)

and this one is alright ?
http://www.befr.ebay.be/itm/Tempere...ptopAccessories_RL&hash=item417f0926e8&_uhb=1
wich one do I need to order ? (I'm ligin in Belgium)
is there any that worth it ?

If the scratch is not obvious, better don't change.
Both is glass,I think no difference between them.
With the tempered glass installed, the pencil input may not work correctly.
And warranty will void once you remove the front anti shattered film.

Hello,
how looks your device ?

I used my Z Ultra for a little over a week before putting a screen protector on it. This resulted in small scratches to asf, after putting the wet apply protector on the scratches were not noticeable.

I bet that the rate of the feedback has been considerably decreased a lot... no ?
In my case, I will soon, in some months replace the stock film by another one, like a GLASS-M product, or a iLLumishield... but isn't available in europe...

Don't even buy a different one. The mocolo one feels like a stock Z2 screen.

its important to use screen protector on s3 ?

They say that the screen of s3 is can't b scratched is this true ...? So do I have to use the screen protector
The screen on the S3 is solid. There's a video of someone playing Fruit Ninja with a real knife on YouTube... the screen stayed intact.
Read the do i need a screen protester posts in accessories .
Yes they can be scratched .

Ask yourself:
Would you whine and cry if you got a scratch on your screen?
If yes, then buy a screen protector.
If no, then go naked.
Me, I would definitely whine, so I bought a protector.
by the way, there is no 100% surface coverable screen protector available...
Due to the curve in the corners of the screen, full screen protector will not sit properely... so the edges (2mm) are not protected form the scraches...:crying:

Actually ZAGG Invisible Shield (It's on my Galaxy S3 at the moment) covers 99.9% of the phone. It's also a very durable screen protector that will last months.
Awww but they do scratch, and it would take something pretty hard to put a gouge in the screen but a knife, keys or any amount of things can easily put micro scratches in the Oleophobic coating and if you use in daylight it gets hard to see the screen.
I have a sp on mine. Just to be safe. I wish my shell would get here from amazon already! I've accumulated some scuff marks on the back cover somehow! greatest phone ever!

I got a scratch on mine just last night - no idea how, probably in my sleep, when the stupid LED light started flashing to tell me about an email, so I reached over and turned it face down. Not deep, and only 4/5mm long, but it's all I see now :crying:
How did my SGS2 screen go for 10 months without a *single* scratch, and this is a week old, and one already...

Hi People,
just wondering if the Sony logo will come off with taking that thing off. Anyone experienced how scratch resistent the "real" glass of our Tablet is?
On my Xperia Arc S I took it off in the first month of use...got it almost 2 Years now and only 2 noticeable scratches.

After much hesitation, I finally got around to remove the pre installed film last night.
It is not easy to remove , but it is worth it. You get better touch sensitivity and clearer picture; and it feel so much better to touch actual glass than plastic!
Use a blade or a sharp object near the corners to lift the film up carefully without scratching anything else.Fingernails didn't do the job for me!
After you have lifted a good amount of the film, you can pull the rest by hand; but it doesn't come off easily and will leave some residue behind. Use a clean cloth to remove the residue. Voila!

Nope. I think that happens only to certain models of the Xperia Z phone.
Though I personally would have been happy if it did come off; don't care too much for the branding and would have liked a plain black front
Will the screen scratch easier without the film, or is it som sort of gorilla glass under the film?

I don't remember exactly the spec, but I am pretty sure it is scratch resistant glass but not the 'gorilla' brand.
I hate screen protectors and am okay with a few minor scratches as long as the don't interfere with the screen when its on.
Worst case, I got Sony Care if the screen gets really damaged and hopefully can get it replaced.
I expect the anti shatter film to be similar to the one in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GzYnDnZDRg
I'm keeping it on the tablet, at least for now.

Sir, you mentioned that you have already removed pre applied screen protector on your Xperia Arc S, so I was wondering is that this layer about half of millimeter smaller than the whole screen?
please answer as soon as possible.

It's the layer which stands out a bit if you look from the side or feel it with your fingernail. I recommend something like a thumbtack or something else sharp to remove it but watch out not to damage your screen! The screen may be sticky after removing it. Just wash it with a wet cloth some times and after 1 or 2 days of usage it will be gone.

Scratch Resistant Phone & Tablet Screen Liquid Nanotechnology DIY Coating

Link to website
I was searching fora good screen protector for the phone... Xperia z ultra need one for front and back.. but could not find one... ordered one tampered glass screen protector from ebay and waiting for its delivery. then i found this campaign a coating that make phone scratch resistant. we can apply it on front and back.. It costs 20 to 25 dollars only..Here is what they have to say............
So what is Liquid Sapphire and how does it work ?
Liquid Sapphire is a DIY coating that stops your phone, tablet or any touch screen from getting scratched, ditch your old plastic shield protector and get the full clarity of your screen using liquid sapphire, it’s invisible, contains man-made liquid sapphire which is second only to diamonds in hardness. Liquid Sapphire is a one time Nanotechnology application and does not need to be topped up.
Liquid Sapphire improves the clarity of your screen, the effect is caused by the Sapphires in liquid which will be a technology used in all touch screen devices over the years to come.
Specifications
Works with any touchscreen device and camera lenses.
Scratch resistant & waterproof.
Life Span : Permanent, Cannot be removed .(It can only be removed by commercial polishing or commercial acid, e.g. hydrochloric acid.)
Invisible coating
External Coating : Yes
Internal Coating : No
Shelf Life : 18 months from opening
Non Toxic
Non Hazardous.
Liquid Amour is a lacquer, Liquid Sapphire is a invisible coating that contains Sapphire. Auto Glass coatings will be waterbased and are no where near in the same league, to coat it with Liquid Sapphire would cost more than the glass even at cost !
Sapphire is second to diamonds in the scale of hardness in natural mineral stones.
Transparency and hardness Sapphire is not only highly transparent to wavelengths of light between 150 nm (UV) and 5500 nm (IR) (the human eye can discern wavelengths from about 380 nm to 750 nm[37]), but is also extraordinarily scratch-resistant. Sapphire has a value of 9 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness.
Hardness Example 10 diamond 9 sapphire 8 beryl 7.5 garnet 6.5-7.5 steel file 7.0 quartz (amethyst, citrine, agate) 6 feldspar (spectrolite) 5.5-6.5 most glass 5 apatite 4 fluorite 3 calcite, a penny 2.5 fingernail 2 gypsum 1 talc

I think this is great once you remove the ASF at the back because its gonna coat the glass at the back... But the problem is the front, I think that this will only be beneficial if applied directly to the glass but not with our ASF since its technically just a film and not as solid as glass below it... So you'll have to remove the front ASF to get the full benefits of this nanotech liquid screen protector
Says right on his site under application guide
"Liquid sapphire does not work on plastic or metal"
wont work on our phone unless we remove the ASF

[Q] How easily does the ASF scratch?

I just got my Z Ultra GPE. I have the incipio dualshine case for it but the included screen protector is not very good and I ended up with a pretty poor application. I ordered a glass protector from Glass-M but it won't be here for a couple weeks. Do you guys think I can get by without a protector without scratches until the glass comes? I only really put it in my pocket. One edge of the protector I have didn't adhere properly and I'm afraid fuzz/dirt will get under and scratch it. Other option is to just use my S4 until I get the better protector.
I've had my Ultra since september and i don't have a single (noticeable) scratch on the front (i'm not using any additional protection). You'll be fine, but accidents happen, so it's not possibble to tell if yours will be scratch free in a few weeks. I do have a couple of scratches on the back though, but i couldn't care less.

@hamdogg mentioned an easy way to apply the protector, use water - added bones is the phone is waterproff
you should be able to remove and reapply the protector.
I've used mine since September with no case or added protection. Like @LordManhattan no scratches or wear at all. Dropped it a couple of times without issue.
Worth adding I dont use a stylus or pencil or anything other than fingers, pretty sure that would degrade the film pretty quick.

I can't see scratches on mine when I am using it. But turn of the screen and swing the phone side to side until the light hits it just right and I see all kinds of fine scratches. How easy is it to scratch? I'd say very easy. And it's not just fine scratches that plague this phone but also the fading of the oleophobic coating. You'll notice the part of the screen where you constantly touch gets rougher compared to the rest of the screen. In the end I'm just waiting for mine to scratch to the point where I will have to remove the ASF.
ಠ_ಠ
On mobile....
Ok thank you all for the feedback. I decided to just use it. If it's something that will scratch in 2 weeks of light use and no accidents I'd just assume return it.

Really not sure what to think
I really dont know what to think of it i wanted to buy the z ultra (the normal one..not google play edition because i cant get it in germany)
and the only thing that holds me back is..i can live with a not so well camery..i only take a few photos but i wouldnt be able to live with a device that just takes every single little fingerprint and scratches easily some people say it scratches easily ..some dont i wouldnt use anything else then my fingers to operate it..and carry it safely in my handbag
is it acceptable or really that bad? else i will probably go with a note 3 or a nexus 5 + nexus 7..so i have a small device on the go and a nexus 7 for watching streams/videos at home
I've got some scratches in the middle of my screen from one mistake placement in the same pocket as my keys. Surprised since the screen is supposed to be fairly resilient, I'll be looking into a protector shortly.
that kinda scares me x.x even if i would never put the device next to my keys..it will be most likely in that power cas einside my handbag x.x

You didn't scratch the screen. You scratched the anti shatter film. It's still annoying though, so yeah, you should probably get a second protector, or just remove the ASF and go naked (it's glass after all, so it won't actually scratch unless you're really unlucky) or put the new third party protector on the glass. One protector is bad enough (how it feels to touch), so i can't imagine using two

Tiny bit of the anti-shatter screen protector burning off?

As you can see from the picture, there's a little spot on the phone. It appeared there about 2months ago and never went away/got any bigger so I concluded it's part of the anti shatter film deteriorated? I was in HK when this happened!
Has this happened to anyone else?

Though I understand why Sony uses an anti shatter film I cannot understand why they made them so soft? Within 24 hours of indoor use on my XZ I could see minute scratches.
I Ordered the same time I ordered the Ultra some screen protectors but they have not arrived yet. That bloomin shatter proof film has been a real pain in the butt for so many owners. Removing it voids the warranty here. Two plastic protective covers certainly causes picture deterioration. No way in hell would I use a pencil on the standard soft anti shatter film though.
Sony tend to get so close to producing near perfect devices then nearly always drop the ball on some silly trivia. Very odd company?
Ryland
I actually read last week that Sony is required by Japanese law to use anti-shatter films on their handheld devices so people don't get hurt when they shatter. I'm not sure if this is indeed true, but i read it twice last week (can't remember where i read it though, but it was on tech site).
I've had my ultra several months now and as of now, the screen protector is just as it was from day one. Lucky me!
It is, however, a fingerprint magnet!

Maybe this one..
About the shatter proof film, it is Japanese legislation, they put it because it is required. They dont have to do that for phones sold outside Japan but they chose to do it anyway (maybe because they dont like lawsuits from people who got their pockets full of tiny pieces of razor sharp glass) with few exceptions (like the international model of Z Ultra, the film would kinda ruin the use of pencils as stylus)

I removed the screen protector on mine a while back, and its much better. The touchscreen works better, the feel of glass is nicer and its far more scratch resistant. The only downside is that without a proper oleophobic coating I need to apply rain-x every couple of weeks or the screen picks up smudges. :good:

I got a highly annoying scratch in the middle of the screen on the factory protector after just three days that was very visible when the screen was on. I never put protectors on my phones and I never get scratches after months of use.
So I removed the protector and go naked from now on as I always do.
Supposedly Sony replace for new anti shatter protector after each repair is that correct? As I asked for mine to be changed and Ok they said yes. So if that's the case why did people remove the anti shatter film and just void their warranty instead of getting Sony to change it. Plus I had problems with my Usb port and Usb cover so sending it off tomorrow

some people prefer the feel of the glass. also, its a HUGE fingerprint magnet (more than any pure glass ive ever used).
im in the middle of removing mine right now. its incredibly tedious and annoying, but itll be worth it once i get my glass-m on it!
:good:
Or put the glass m over the top and not void warranty. It may be a finger print magnet I no that. But I'd rather wipe it and carry on instead of spending about a scary tedious 2-3 hours taking it off voiding warranty just for some finger prints. Just my opinion but still. I gotta send mine off hopefully tomorrow though. I hope they fix my problems without charging me etc.

But I'd rather wipe it and carry on instead of spending about a scary tedious 2-3 hours taking it off voiding warranty just for some finger prints. Just my opinion but still. I gotta send mine off hopefully tomorrow though. I hope they fix my problems without charging me etc.

Just finished. Took a little under an hour. I had some scratches on the screen, so I didn't wanna spend $40 on a screen protector to place over the scratches. Also, I've read about screen distortion and reduced sensitivity when placing a protector over the stock ASP. I know not everyone experiences it, but with my luck, I would... Lol. I hope you get yours taken care of fast and at no charge, mate.

Something tells me that most people are not interested in saying "bye bye" to their ZU for 1-8 weeks every time they get a scratch
