[Q] GPS Won't Connect, Tried (Just About) Everything - HTC Rezound

For the past couple of weeks my GPS hasn't been able to connect to any satellites. For quite some time I was running Tachyon 1.2 (while I was S-On) with no problems. Then, one day I'm out of state and really need my GPS and it simply won't connect to any satellites. I've tried many different things to try to get GPS working. I've tried flashing CM 11, LiquidSmooth 3.2, down to Tachyon 1.1.5 all to no avail. I've used: GPS Assist, Both GPS Status programs I found in the Google Play Store (the blue one and the one with a gray/orange satellite dish looking thing), and the GPS Fix app from the play store. I recently used REV3NT3CH's guide to downgrade and factory reset my HTC Rezound. It's weird being back to stock, but GPS still does not work. I have also tried switching back covers with someone else who has a Rezound...again nothing. I am now S-Off with a relocked bootloader.
My phone is from Verizon and I'm now on the stock 4.0.3 and the HTC Sense version is 3.6
Software number: 4.03.605.2 710RD
HBOOT-2.28.0000
RADIO-2.23.10.0123r/2.23.10.0124r
I'm rooted and using TWRP 2.7.0.1 for recovery
I was wondering if there's anything else I should try, or if there's a .zip or .apk I can flash that will help the GPS?
This is my first time posting, but I've been looking on these forums for years...ever since I got a HTC Droid Eris a very long time ago!

It actually sounds like you are not making contact GPS antenna contacts in the back cover... check your contacts for a solid connection, corrosion, or try another back cover. I am not saying it's not possible for the GPS receiver to go bad, but I can't recall hearing of one doing it in the Rezound, but I can tell you that, just like the other radios in this handset, if you take off the back cover, don't have it on solid, use an aftermarket back cover, or anything else causing a bad connection, it will fail to get signal.

I appreciate you getting back to me. I use the standard back cover, and I have tried a different back cover from another HTC Rezound. Do you know which connections I should take a closer look at? Looking at the connections, they look good, clean and gold...no corrsion or anything like that. Both back covers look identical as far as the where they connect with the antennas.

Sorry, I do not know which it is, and I may have been wrong... This is the only image I could find with labels and GPS is not one of them from what I can tell

Sorry, but sounds like time for a new phone... But I think you will be amazed at the difference in battery life, weight, and performance of the newer phones like the HTC One, LG G2/3, and Galaxy S5, compared to the Rezound.

Been thinking about the HTC One or the LG G2. I'm still going month-to-month on an unlimited data plan (from Alltel) on Verizon, so I'm looking for a phone that's a little more reasonable in price...been looking on Swappa for a little bit. Recommendation on either of those two phones?

If you are into rooting and romming, go with the HTC One M7, its a solid device. The G2 is great, although custom ROMs have a tendency to break the GPS and occasionally the screen (search out G2 screen lines on custom ROM and you will see what I mean), but even with that said the G2 is a solid device and the battery life is astounding... We have both in my family, my son has the One and I have the G2 as a work phone, as well as one of my other sons and his mom have the G2.

Sprint Official update problem

First of all, I will start by mentioning that this is my third Touch Pro from Sprint and I just want to confirm something before I take back to the store.
Is there anyone else who updated to the newest official firmware and have problems with your video playback from your albums. I had some videos stored from my old phone on a sd, and when I try to play it on this phone, it would cause a lot of jagging, freezes, audio playing while video is not. I then recorded a video with the camcorder and when I went to play back, it did the same thing. The settings I have it in is in
-CIF 352x288
-MPEG4
If its the phone, then I'm glad because I can go get myself the Touch Pro 2 at the store for free.
Things to note,
-had no problem like this on the 2nd phone
-upgraded the firmware as soon as I got home with this phone
-been like this for a while, just never cared to get an answer until now
Any feedback to a similar problem or non-exsisting problem would be greatly appreciated.
Look, if your ultimate goal is to get a free TP2, then just tell them that the phone gets unholy hot or some defect from the phone itself (battery lasting less than half a day with moderate use, etc). Believe me that the TP from Sprint has a bunch of those... If you start going by software, believe me that they will find a way to either fix it or convince you that it can be fixed with an update...
were you getting a free tp2 due to these issues?? Because im having the same issues as well including that my battery gets extremely hot and will not charge

I'm curious about this myself. I was gonna get a Hero in a couple of months when my contract is up, but if I get a TP2, I might hold out for a little while.
There is a list somewhere that after a certain date, if your phone is with in the manufacture warranty of 1 year, and you have insurance of both types with sprint, you can switch out the phone to a list of 10 other phones, the TP2 and the hero being among those.
Still a sure answer on this would be great. Thanks egz on some insight. And gxt, you mean you are having problems with video playback too?
So I think I'll be going to the sprint store tomorrow, I'll let you guys know how it goes, unless I don't go that is.

What insurance do you have to have? Where is this list?
My 2nd tp just crapped out on me and insurance just sent me a "new" one.

http://slumz.boxden.com/f244/sprint-now-replacing-touch-pro-touch-pro-2-a-1295800/
im going to give this a shot.
Hello everybody(insert simpsons joke here), it looks like i finally went to the sprint store. After what seems like a lifetime ago, i told them the problems I had, they said they would do a hard reset, and to come back in an hour. An hour and a half later and I will be getting mnyself a touch pro 2 soon. Now the only bad part is that i need to call this store to find out when they would have any touch pro 2's in their warehouses. So at least for now, I am assed out, oh and forgive me if this comes off as bad grammer, I am typing this from my touch pro 1, the screen is too small.

Returned EVO for issues. Second one is perfect.

My first EVO that I bought on launch day was having some issues. Sense reloading, WiFi not disconnecting after I left my house, 3g sucked, battery life wasn't the greatest, and just seemed laggy. The guys at best buy tried argueing with me and said to reproduce the issues. I was able to show them the 3g connection and my WiFi issue. The guys tried telling me the WiFi was because the phone will automatically connect to all open access points. This is where we started to argue for a minute or two. I told them that was BS, we argued for a few seconds then I cut him off and asked, "Are u going to honor your return policy or what?" I hate it when Best Buy employees try to act that they know everything.
Anyways, the second EVO is running great. WiFi acts normal, way less lag, battery has gone for 2 full days without being charged and moderate use. And sense hasn't reloaded one time yet. Im really glad I traded it out for another instead of just returning. I'm going to give it one more week before I root. I'm missing my apps from my OG EVO.

HTC has a built in feature called SmartSync, which disables data after a period of non-use for deep sleep. If you check the dev threads, there's a fix for it, but it requires some smali editing. Some of the more recent roms have it built in. So the whole WiFi/3G disconnect thing is actually a feature believe it or not...lol
I believe I am lucky. Even though there are the multitasking issued, which everyone has, my EVO has never done the loading sense home screen thing... And I run some memory hoggin apps. Grindr, last.fm, maps, xda, browser, mail. Never had the reload show up yet.

im having the light leak issue also.
also the sticker i had was black, like some generic sticker placed over the small clear one that was probably broken already.
i may have been sold one that someone returned. mf's
question: do i have to go to the same store i bought it at to exchange it?
I understand your pain dealing with people that are less knowledgeable than you (a Sprint rep tried to tell me that the SD card on my phone could be what was causing the reception issues if the card was 32gigs, no joke). However, try to understand that most of the time these people are just following instructions set forth by their employers. When things usually start to escalate like that, stay polite and ask for a manager. Believe me, it works better.
Anyway, I'm glad you got a non-defective phone and can start to enjoy it

I exchanged my first EVO LTO for frequent reboots at a Sprint Corporate store, 2nd one perfect!
On my third LTE. Should have kept the first one. Hope the new shipment BB gets is better than the ones they had last week.
First LTE: Dust under glass and slight light leakage
Second: Pixel stuck in on position and screen has the flex/ripple issue when under medium pressure
Third: Has flex/ripple issue as well and wifi on this one and 3 G has been worse than the first two
Next shipment comes in Friday. Crossing my fingers for a GOOD one!
My first was light leakage and second was ripple and all I can find around here all have the ripple, hope this goes away in the upcoming batches...

Omg I would switch to another phone after the first one Wtf is wrong with you guys. There are more superior phones oops did I just say that yes I did.
I had to return my first one as well. I was not getting calls txt or voice mails. Data worked find but nothing else.
exchanged it at best buy, and all my messages came through right away.
I suspect that it was not a phone issue but an activation issue.

You mean like the Galaxy S3, the phone that will have zero problems on launch day? Good luck. My first Evo had a bad pixel, and I am waiting on the replacement. I was going to get the SG3 instead, but after reading the UK SG3 threads, there are a lot of issues. I decided that the Evo is best for me. Whether it is superior or not is subjective.
Yeah, as stated above, it will have issues. Hell, go to the S3 forums here at xda and review the complaints of various folks.
In the end, my EVO is imperfect, but as usual with HTC, software updates will fix these annoyances, so I'll be patient.

It is amazing to have the chance to compare two different phones. I ended up unfortunately having that experience after I dropped my brand new EVO LTE in the toilet. My first phone I noticed that it didn't auto dock on my car dock even with the option turned on.
Haven't tried the camera on the new phone but old phone seemed like it didn't take sharp pictures like I was expecting but ones that were more out of focus than really blurry.

Has anyone had luck with antenna boosters? (Like the ones you put inside the battery)

Just started a new job, and my service really sucks here. I have a microcell, but I'm not at the point of being able to hook it up at work without a legitimate business need.
I'm about another month on my Thunderbolt before I move on to something else, but honestly, I'm not sure I'll keep Verizon if my phone won't work at the office.
Any ideas?
Oh, and I'm running the HTC extended battery.. I haven't had issues with the case before, but I guess I don't have a comparison yet with the stock cover..

I know exactly what you're talking about. I remember they used to actually work with those older flip phones, but not too sure about how it would work on a Thunderbolt.
If you're rooted, I would just recommend flashing a few radios to see if that improved your signal at all.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
Yeah.. understood.. I'm running the only radios I can run on my ROM right now.. so.. just wondering if anyone had any other luck. I know the 4G antenna is specialized, so, improving that, probably not going to happen. But, I can maybe send one text with every 5 or 6 tries, so.. I might just have to bring my micro cell in and give it a try.
AFAIK, Antenna boosters do very little. Why not try some aluminum foil under the battery cover and see if that helps? You can copy one of those you see online.
NOTE: Glue or tape the foil to a bit of paper or plastic so it can't move around and short something out.

One can't link to HTC Media Link without turning on hotspot

I can link my EVO 4G LTE to HTC media link HD (got it for free from pre-ordering htc one). However, HTC ONE wouldn't connect to it without turning on the hotspot which I don't have. I was wondering if there's a way to fix this? Has anyone successfully link htc one to the media link hd?

Same issue - can't get it to work... and I'm a computer guy! haha.
Called ATT - they were obviously clueless and at first I needed to add hotspot, after refusing they transferred me to HTC. Setup a ticket with them. I'll get back with info once they contact me.
I suspect it's something to do with ATT's customization, surprise surprise.
Same issue - HTC One "2013 M7" at&t
I got it to work by tuning on airplane mode then tuning wifi back on. But once I turn airplane mode off it no longer works.

Yup I had this problem too. I'd try to connect and that damn message would cancel out anything I did with it. I tried freezing everything AT&T related through Titanium, but that didn't fix it, so it's part of the ROM.
I flashed a ROM from the international forums (Renovate 1.0) and now I'm able to connect just fine though!

As far as I can tell everything is working perfectly. All the AT&T bloatware is gone, as smooth/smoother than stock, transparent notification shade, back button as menu enabler, etc. Only thing missing is the 4G and LTE icons in the statusbar. I still have LTE I think (haven't tested), but the icons are just different, which isn't a big deal to me. I also dirty flashed this so I didn't lose any data and I haven't encountered any negative side effects.

Can you link us to where you got the files and/or if there are instructions on flashing this? Also I'd like to confirm this is the HTC One, not the One X, V, S or any other phones. I'm still trying to figure out why the hell HTC would call this the "One", other than to make it impossible to search for items for this phone vs the other phones. :-\
Also have you confirmed LTE is working?
Thanks!
P.S. Still haven't heard back from HTC/ATT, but I'd just assume blast away all the bloatware from the get-go.
Same problem here. First says check the input on my TV then says I need to enable hotspot. At one point I was able to connect long enough to change the name of the media link and it even displayed what was on my phone, but then the aforementioned dialogues popup and I am forced to click ok which puts the tv back at the media links initial screen. I've tried both wireless n and g as well as my Panasonic and Vizio tvs. Version number on the media link is 5.19.103.1

Yeah this is the HTC One. No way in hell would I be flashing a One X ROM on my One. The ROM is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2202696
Standard instructions for installing a ROM. Download the file (I used v1.0, not the nightlies), place it on SD card, boot into recovery, install .zip file.
- I said no when it asked to wipe my data before installation (it's an aroma installer).
Something else I just noticed, the media link is connecting to my wireless network and it displays the SSID and full signal strength. However, as soon as I try to push content to the TV, via the 3 finger swipe up, the wifi signal strength drops to nothing and it attempts to do the whole tethering nonsense. Also, "filter multicast" is in option on my router, but it is disabled. I figure I'll just keep this going since not everyone will want to flash a new ROM just to fix this.

I've talked to both att and htc for a couple hours and both of them are casting the blame on the other.
att tried to tell me once that i needed a hot spot plan... until i explained the technology to them and said how my One X connects just fine without a sim card in it.... and they quickly take it back
eventually they both tell me there should be an update to fix it yada yada yada
Well hopefully someone will come up with a fix before then...I don't have much confidence in them patching it unless it's pretty widespread. Not many people complaining of it yet

Does he have the mobile hotspot plan? As a tech writer I'd imagine he would.

All microphones KIA

So for about 6 months my phone worked fine in all ways. Then I broke the screen and had it replaced (for more than I could have sold the phone for...). Then a few months ago (about 9 months after buying) my regular call microphone stopped working. Oh well. I could still call on speakerphone because I guess it used a different microphone. Except now that microphone is dead too. My phone is now a small tablet incapable of calling.
Different roms, clean flashes, stock, aosp, etc. Nothing changed it. I think it's a hardware issue.
Now that I got my screen replaced is there any chance that LG will fix it for me if I can make it appear stock, or will they know and demand I pay some ridiculous price to get it back? At this point I guess I might as well send it in and try because my only other option is to use an old phone or maybe waste half of my net worth on an unlocked M8. Still, I'd like to have some input on what you all would do.

Or you could have a go at replacing both microphones its not to tricky there are many tutorials on you tube.
I'm being forced to use a moto x until I get another upgrade. This phone has slowly degraded into barely being useful as every phone I've ever had has. HTC is the only android brand left for me to try. I hope the m9 is amazing.

The phone itself is fine. Willing to bet something went wrong during the time either:
When the screen was damaged or
During the repair process.
That's probably what LG is going to say if you try to ask them to repair damage they're not responsible for.
I would replace the Mic and speaker as Melt1down suggested and go from there.
The phone is not fine. Every phone I've ever had has had this problem. It slowly gets worse and worse and nothing changes it. And I didn't drop my phone, so don't assume things you don't know.
