Has anyone flashed an AT&T Rom on their t-mobile yet? Not sure if safestrap will create an issue or not. I'm not sure if there is some kind of coding or whatever baked into the at&t roms that could create an issue on t-mobile.
Hope I made this clear as mud.
Thank in advance for any info you might could provide.

You can run att roms no problem, but not the safestrap ones, I mean you could, but it would require a edit of the safestrap updater.script.
What rom are you referring to in the att area?

Dynamic Kat 1.0 is the rom I was looking to flash. Although I used to have the note 3 on at&t with safestrap, I'm still dumb to safestrap knowledge.
Thank you for replying to my thread Axman. You have helped me several times in the past and I have even donate to you for helping me. I even did a little test run for you on one of your roms. And thank you for your awesome roms too!
There is no intrinsic reason that you can't use Safestrap on other carriers. If you look at the original Safestrap support thread you'll see that many people on other ROMs /carriers, including me were using Safestrap.
It's simply become in vogue to use Safestrap with ATT because their locked bootloader precludes using custom ROMs or recoveries directly. Making Safestrap especially attractive there.
You need to discern if there are any pieces that are inflexibly intended for ATT. And avoid using automatic scripts or customizations that are tailored specifically for ATT.

Okay so I've never heard of this and one of my (maybe future coworker) had whats called safestrap on his ATT S4. Its a recovery that allows you to have 4 roms saved to it plus the stock rom. This would be the perfect recovery if more people were to make it happen! If you guys want to take a look here is the link.

It seems the general consensus is that Sprint doesn't need it, because the bootloader is unlocked, unlike Verizon, but if I'm not mistaken (I may be) it saferoot and safestrap allow you to root and Rom without voiding warranty, plus, multibooting multiple roms??? Whaaaat? I want to see that for the Sprint variant too
Hey guys,
I'm sorry if this question has already been asked, I currently have a verizon Gs4 that is running the new MK2 update. I have been looking around at ROMS online and I would like to install a kit kat rom onto my phone. My question is after rooting am I limited to what type of recovery and roms i can use? My co worker has a GS4 for sprint and uses PHILZ custom recovery.
Can anybody help me with some explanation? I am trying to figure out if it is worth rooting the phone. I also want to make sure I have all my ducks lined up before plunging into the process.
Thank you,

No custom recovery exists for mk2...hashcode is working on safestrap recovery but it is buggy at best right now and only works for touchwiz ROMs...others are working tirelessly toward unlock or workaround...mk2 is very new...give it time and read up on mk2...more will come
You can't flash a custom rom or recovery if your on the MK2 update. You can only root MK2. The devs are working hard to make that possible for us that are on the MK2 update.

It is absolutely worth rooting, but being on MK2 your recovery options are limited to Safe strap. Philztouch will only work on the original MDK firmware. I haven't used Safe strap since the Bionic but Hashcode and his work are amazing. Head over to his blog and his thread for more info. If you are just looking to theme your phone you can stay stock rooted and use Xposed with Wanam settings. All of this info is right here on XDA and most likely on the first page of their respective forums. My first recommendation is to read a lot first. Second, before you start the process have all emergency restore files downloaded and ready to go with your device recognized by your computer. (Always have Odin, your current Factory Firmware, and USB drivers ready)
You're on MK2....you can't install a custom ROM. This topic has been discussed many times.

Not to be rude, but this has been answered 1,000,000 times, you couldn't have searched or even read a few posts down. The only version of the S4 that can install a custom recovery is MDK. You can root, and Hashcode just released a version of safestrap that works with MJ7, but this just happened. As far as I am aware, only Hyperdrive will work on a phone on MJ7 or MK2.
Hi,
I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy s4 with build number JSS15J.I545VRUEMK2, and I recently rooted it so I could run the Google Play Edition Rom. From various threads and guides I knew that I needed to use SafeStrap because you can't use CWM recovery on an MK2 device. After a couple of attempts installing the GPE Rom, I found out that the GPE roms i could find only work with SafeStrap and an ME7 device. Furthermore, I found out that the only ROM that works with and MK2 device is Hyperdrive 11. I was wondering if there is any way around this or, alternatively, if there are any plans to fix this.
Thanks in advance.

First of all. .the only way around is to hope our devs who pretty much do the work on their spare time...look at what can be done...Second their nothing broken that needs a fix.
If you want ability to load different roms buy the dev phone.
safestrap enabled, Hyperdrive driven

Thanks for the reply,
Just for clarification, are you saying that if I load hyperdrive, then I'll be able to load the GPE rom with safestrap?
Thanks

You need a custom recovery to load any ROM. Problem with the build you are running is you cannot install a custom recovery because the bootloader is locked down tighter than Fort Knox. Devs are working on a solution and hopefully they will succeed. Don't hold your breath though as it may take a long while.
Until then, you can root, uninstall and de-crapify the bloatware and crapware from the phone. Change the launcher to GEL and get something closer to a GPE phone. Done all this to my S4 and it runs much more smoothly and gives me excellent battery service.
Can i flash any tmobile ROM? like this one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2682608
I recently flashed a MIUI ROM from our verizon thread and noticed it worked decently with either a tmobile sim or our own Verizon LTE.
I also recently flashed this T-mobile ROM :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292054
which was posted on the T-mobile thread but had our verizon kernal in the list of downloads, with success.
So my question is this: can i flash any Tmobile ROM as long as it doesn't include a kernal and radio and of course access the network settings to change it to LTE/CDMA.???

Probably not. Most ROMs are tightly integrated with their kernel; if you flash just the ROM and not the kernel, lots of things will likely not work well.
I think you should make a little list of the ones you have success with though... [emoji1]

You sure can. As log as you are on the MDK bootloader. Many of us have done it. Check this thread for some info

Thanks! This proves we can use i9505 (generic S4) roms, but doesn't guarantee we can use Tmobile. But that may not matter. This means we can use the repository of I9505 ROMS which opens the door to a boatload of ROMS!!! WHOOOHOOO.

Yeah, if you're one of the lucky few with the MDK bootloader or a developer edition phone.
But you still probably need to flash the entire ROM, including the kernel that supports it, assuming you're one of the lucky ones.

I'm assuming most of us have the MDK bootloader. I'm running TW 4.4.2 now (goldeneye ROM). Works flawless. All the mods for i9505 work great too. We have some awesome themes out there in the i9505 themes thread. Verizon S4 keeps getting better and better.
I was wondering if there was a way to flash AT&T ROM to work on the verizon model. I know how to flash international Roms but not AT&T.
For example, currently I am running Echoe 32.1 (International version), but when I try to flash Goldenfinger (AT&T) my phone calls work but I get no SMS or data.
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!
Someone with ROM building (from source or porting) experience can better explain this, but the simplest answer is that because the frequencies that AT&T and T-Mobile operate on differ from those of Verizon and Sprint (typically). So the ROM you are trying to use has different radio drivers for frequencies your phone doesn't use, which results in most or all your antennas to not function. I know that at the very least you need to modify the ROM to utilize the Verizon radios. There may also be some system configurations to be altered in the install of the ROM so it's instructed to use the right frequencies, though a more qualified individual will need to verify that.
Hope that gives you a general idea.

This patch can be used to flash roms from international and other carriers. It has an aroma installer allowing to decide how much Verizon stuff you want to install, anywhere from just the APN's to the full phone & messaging apk's. Read the OP and thread to understand which patch to use and how to use it.

Thank you for the help! But I tried the patch you suggested on two different AT&T ROMs, and I didn't have any luck. It works on international version ROMs, but not AT&T..
And I just realized I forgot to put in the OP that im on Safestrap

Yeah, unfortunately things have been weird with that patch lately. It's a mix of the dev not having time to update while everything has been getting significant updates pretty quickly and lost user interest overall. I've used that patch with AT&T roms before, but admittedly not since Jelly Bean. It should theoretically work still, but there's other variables you have to consider. All I can say is that if you're really interested in running one of those roms, read through the patch thread to see what particular aroma settings and additional zips, etc. people are using to get those roms to boot.
And Safestrap users can use that patch too. I would PM @shindiggity for assistance. He seems like a helpful guy and he uses that patch on Safestrap.

Thank you for all your help! Im gonna PM him and read through the thread and if and when I find a solution, I will post it here.
I've flashed Goldfinger and it does work. These are the steps that I do. Flash rom, patch, signal bar fix, modules and finally SU. In the patch I select minimal and everything else I leave pre selected. First boot does take a couple minutes. Let me know if that works.
